Joshua 22 provides six lessons about resolving potential spiritual problems: take them seriously; talk directly to those involved; realize sin spreads when not addressed; be willing to give up things to promote the spiritual health of others; do not take offense when someone comes to you; and rejoice at the resolution.

This lesson looks at prayer from God's perspective according to what the Bible tells us. As opposed to this often impersonal world, God knows us and loves us and carefully considers each request we make. He highly values our prayers and sees that they are answered at the right time. This final lesson shows that God's people are a persevering people on earth because they will be an eternal people in perfect and unbreakable fellowship with Him after this life is over.

This lesson describes different ways we see God's absolute goodness as central to His character. It also describes how we must respond to His absolute goodness with living a life that the Bible tells us is good.

Wrath and other things connected to punishment are not popular in today's society, but the Bible describes God as having and exercising wrath. God does not fall into the same traps that people often do in using wrath, and He acts in wrath in response to the rejection of His love and truth. Obedience to God can save us from experiencing His just wrath eternally.

God is merciful, and wants to show even more mercy, but requires an obedient response to show all of the mercy He wishes toward us, including the forgiveness of sins, giving us the status of His children, and having fellowship with us. In return, we must show mercy to others, admit our sinfulness, and continue to obey Him.

God keeps His promises, protects us from temptations, and corrects us because He is faithful. We must respond to that faithfulness by keeping our promises, accepting His commands, and accepting His correction. The Empathy sermon is an unofficial prequel to this one, and the sermon on God's mercy is the sequel.

This lesson examines what people today describe as empathy and studies what the Bible has been teaching about that quality for thousands of years. We see how Jesus practiced it, how empathy is part of what is called The Golden Rule, how it is a skill to be developed, and how using empathy helps the functioning of a congregation. This is the first unofficial lesson about God's character.

This lesson finishes the last set of characteristics of God's people by showing the need for a willingness to repent. This lesson also contains the beginning of the study of the eternal outlook for God's people by discussing their willingness to undergo persecution on earth because of the greater homeland awaiting them.

The characteristics of God's people include the quality of humility and the speaking of truth (primarily in teaching, though personal honesty is also vital).

In this part of the series further characteristics of God's people are studied, with the focus on being a loving people in this lesson.

God's people have always been required to obey Him (1 Corinthians 9:21), but the basis of salvation has never been perfect law-keeping, but an obedient faith.

In this lesson, how Christians should use their liberty to build unity and how envy and bitterness threaten that unity are key topics, along with the first point of the lesson about being a people of faith, that righteousness comes through faith apart from law.

This lesson demonstrates that God wants His people to be a united people. This unity is not an agreement to ignore sin and important differences, but a commitment to handle problems in ways God has instructed and to consider the well-being of other Christians in our decisions, not dividing over personal loyalties or politics.

In this lesson, the theme of Christ's ruling in every Christian's life is emphasized. His ruling the mind moves Christians to set their minds properly, put off worldliness, put on character, put the home in order, and speak and act wisely.

The previous lesson described the longstanding plan of God to bring the Gentiles in to His people; this lesson examines the outworking of that plan with some extended analysis of longer units of teaching in Acts 15, Ephesians 2, and Galatians 2.

Jesus Christ continues to be the emphasis in Chapter 2 of Colossians, as many things that people trust instead of Christ (human reasoning, philosophy, the Law of Moses, human religious laws) and found wanting, because all that we need spiritually in found in Him.

In the first chapter of Colossians, Jesus Christ is mentioned in a solid majority of the verses. This lesson covers first the kingdom of Christ, then the deity of Christ, and finally the hope people can have in Christ. Common misconceptions regarding the time of kingdom, the nature of Jesus, and perseverance are covered.

In this lesson the prophecies about bringing faithful Gentiles into God's people and the statements of Jesus and the apostles are used to show that this had been God's plan from earlier than the time of Moses.

The Bible uses various metaphors to describe sin, picturing it as a stain, a sickness, a weight or a burden, and a debt. This lesson gives examples of all four metaphors and speaks of what we can learn about sin from each one. The role of Jesus in forgiving sin and how the forgiveness fits each of the metaphors concludes the lesson.

Having a heart that is merry does not imply excessively naïve optimism. It involves trusting God's promises and dealing with the hurts, frustrations, and sorrows of life with a confidence that God cares for you and will do what He has said. Some people (including Christians) allow themselves to get bitter and stop believing that people can, with God's help, change and do good. Faithful servants of God maintain a glad heart and let it show to those around them.

In this lesson, Acts and Romans are featured; both books show that Paul, a Jew Himself, was being true to the outworking of the truth of the old covenant by being committed to the promised Messiah under the new covenant. Christians believe that the God of the Old Testament is the one they worship, His promises have been fulfilled, and He still welcomes all, Jew and Gentile, who will turn to Him with a loving and obedient faith.
