I Finally Watched "The Shining" Weekend Chat 18 June 2023
The opening image is wrong, its a Lane Crown Achievement pipe. According to Pipepedia these were made by Charatan, but I’m not sure that is accurate.
A big thank you to the anonymous fellow that sent me the DVD. I had a very enjoyable time finally watching the film!

Building and using a Tobacco Pipe Retort
An overview of the theory and function of the retort. The retort is a useful pipe-cleaning device, especially useful for removing stubborn ghosts. the video is a long one with about half being devoted to an overview of the process and parts of the system. The second half shows the retort in action.
If you have a smaller test tube retort, Jim (Furthur73) does it right, and his is the best video I have seen that explains the use of this type of device: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1256ujUQ9Y

Blood Clots and Tobacco Taxes Wednesday Roadway Ramble 16 April 2021
You Tube didn't like this video. I'm appealing their decision to pull the video but in the meantime here it is.
This was definitely a rant on attempts at social programming and a proposed increase in taxes on pipe tobacco. Sorry if I got a bit hot headed, but this is really an important topic. Also, sorry about the glitch where the audio cut out as I was talking about Phil. I’m slowly learning this software ;-)

Antique Ben Wade Restoration Part 5
Part 5 of the series, we cut the slot and do the basic stem layout. I know this is moving slow, but I am trying to really include everything in as much detail as possible and have logical breaks between each part. There is one more part coming next week that will complete the series.

Antique Ben Wade Restoration Part 3
In part 3 of the series, we repair the crack in the shank, ream the mortise to it’s final internal diameter, and design the tenon insert and stem blank. I spend a lot of time on the design part as I am trying to describe the way I think about replacement stem making. I hope that you find it useful.

Antique Ben Wade Restoration Part 1
An introduction and overview of the work that we will be doing on this antique Ben Wade for my friend Jose. I give a bit of history anf describe the next steps. This is going to be a long series (6 parts) with some long videos. I tried to really show the full stem making process as requested by several folks, but this makes for some long and less than perfect videos. Feel free to skip around and enjoy what you like.
