RC Boat Powered by Compass Magnet
This is the simpler watered down version of this concept and should be easy to understand. Once you understand this simple concept which I haven't seen anything remotely like it on the internet you will have a better basis to go on towards the more difficult concepts.

Reaction Wheel Permanent Magnet Boat with Lego Tire
This is what came out of the reaction wheel and magnet boat attempts.
It can be seen that when the north end of the magnet points east the boat moves a little bit west and south. When the north end of the magnet points west the boat (south of the magnets) moves a little bit west and north. In the back and forth motion the boat makes its way west at increasing speed ending at about 6 inches per minute.
The magnets would stay in one place and the only the boat would move if the boat had no mass but if the boat were very massive the magnets would move around it without much effect but since it is somewhere in between the net effect is that the boat moves a little bit with each swing.
The left side of the screen is the Earth's north and of course the 4 half inch neo magnets on the boat's rim interact with Earth's magnetic field just as a compass only a very powerful one.

High Voltage Electromagnetic Transmitter DIY Kit Build
There's so much to learn about capacitors and tank circuits and zener diodes, watts and newton meters per second and on and on.
An it's all from a relatively simple DIY electronic kit.
Call this adventures in moderately high voltage. Just high enough at 93 volts to be thrilling but probably won't kill you if you mess with that capacitor.

Velleman 3D 3x3x3 LED Cube Hack
Replacing the 3mm red LEDs from an old Velleman 3D 3x3x3 LED cube with leftover square blue LEDs from an iCubeSmart 3D8S made for a good project.
It was good soldering practice to develop soldering skills where you can't always rest the heel of your hand or wrist on the table.

Three D 8x8x8 Blue LED iCubeSmart Kit Build
Some claim they can do an 8x8 matrix panel in a half hour and all 8 of them in 4 hours. However it took me about an hour and a half to do each panel and I took breaks so I only did 2 of them Friday night and 3 each on Saturday and Sunday. Then it took a few hours to do the final assembly.
I recommend you take your time and take lots of breaks. When or if I do another project like this I may allow myself much more time perhaps only doing one panel in a day.
I did not have any trouble with the solder joints of the individual matrix panels coming loose during the final assembly but I could see how that could happen if the pins aren't bent just right.

Etoput 4x4x4 3D LED Cube Kit Build
As our grade school teachers told us: "neatness counts".
The neater and squarer these LED 3D cubes are the better the effect.
Only a very good photographer can make a fair video of them but they are pretty to look at in real life.
My reason for doing this kit was to improve the steadiness of my hands in soldering "freestyle". That is where the heel of my hand is not touching the table but holding the soldering iron somewhere in the air. It is amazing what you can learn to do.

Magnetic Inertial Propulsion Demonstrated with Statorless Motor in Small Boat
This concept is illustrated in an aluminum pan floating in water. The water is a good medium for experimentation since it allows movement of the boat with small forces but it also has a lot of drag. The motor spins much faster if hanging from a swivel.

Virus Magnetic Boat Explained
A boat powered by a compass.
The math can be modelled as two rotating objects colliding where the Earth's magnetic field on the compass/magnets is one of the objects and the unbalanced turning boat as the other object.

Magnetic Boat with Servo Turning Side to Side Quickly
So while stick slip effect accounts for 4 inches of motion in the first minute in the control with the help of the magnets it adds an additional 4 inches of motion in the first minute.
In theory.
But the theory is pretty good.
Here is what is happening. In the first part of the cycle the servo turns the magnets either east or west and the magnets try to point back to north and turn the boat with them. So the magnets turning north is actually accelerating the turning of the boat.
Next the boat's turning has to slow down and go in the other direction. The magnets are doing this as well and because the boat is already turning and now slowing down it's inertia drives the boat north since the magnets are turning one side north and the other side of the boat is already turning north.

SOLARBOTICS Breadboard Voltage Regulator Kit Build
The description states this is a difficulty level of beginner 2/5 and should take 20 minutes to complete. More like 30-40 minutes with the least little hang up. Granted I should have known to turn on the power switch but some of the soldering was a little close together considering the other parts already installed in the order as instructed.

In the later part of this video the Clockwise rotation of the motor is shown while it is sometimes out of phase. Since it is not perfectly balanced it pushes out to the left side of the screen a little showing rotation translated to linear motion according to conservation of momentum. So the stator magnets exaggerate this effect which also happens without them in the case of a statorless motor.

More Efficient DC Two Pole Motor with Permanent Magnets in the Armature Turned by a Servo 2
The more thought you give this the more it looks like a big winner.
The servo only has to turn a 1 ounce magnet quickly then lock in place and the magnet turns the 4 1/2 ounce armature.
I own this one.
