It does 130 RPM top speed and looks looks more like a motor now.
It still wobbles because the armature is a little out of balance so that is something to improve in the future.

GIKFUN SMD SMT PRACTICE PCB SIDE 2
If you are into electronics kits and you haven't tried out basic surface mounts you are missing all the fun. It may look daunting at first but with flux and a little practice you can do it.
As you may notice in the video getting the QFP44's lined up perfectly is very important and worth taking your time with until they are just so.
Also pay attention to the orientation/polarity of the component placement. What the video doesn't show is that we put one of the QFP44's on facing the wrong direction, removed it (with a soldering iron trick) and soldered it back in place correctly.

SMD SOLDERING PRACTICE IMPROVING
"Practice makes perfect."
Well better at least. I have come a long way and still learning. My first TH soldering kit about 4 years ago didn't work and now I am doing SMD soldering!
Lessons learned:
1) use flux more often
2) take frequent breaks only doing a few components at a time
3) use thin solder
4) apply tip of soldering iron to pad long enough to let the solder flow onto the component without overheating the component.
5) use less solder

A nice kit with a quality PCB. It's a great toy once it's assembled.
The LEDs and resistors are 3mm and the pads on the PCB are small at about 1.5mm and also pre-tinned.
We are trying to solder under a microscope and it is taking some getting used to. Our hands normally don't shake quite this much but are extended toward the position where the microscope ends up. We will have to adjust this so the forearms can be almost parallel to the chest and get steadier results.

Torqueless Gyroscope Motor
It's hard to find an inexpensive electric gyroscope so the investment in the Gyrobot toy many years ago seems to have some additional value.
The top of the armature is attached to the wooden hoop with a fishing swivel so it is free to rotate. In effect the motor pushes against the gyroscope and make the whole thing turn.

Magnetic Levitator Toy Tweaks
Some fun with the Magnetic Levitator toy.
There are some possibilities with the pendulum such as making it longer or designing it such that it was in the center of the levitator to eliminate wobble.
Also it swings for a number more minutes if started from a higher angle.
Consider that a pendulum is very much like a gyroscope in that it will tend to swing in one plane.

Plugable Digital Microscope
Plugable Digital Microscope works well with Android tablet and USB OTG connector. I will be using it in soldering. Use cameraFi2 app from playstore and you should have no trouble. The stand is good quality and holds microscope in place well. I have had the suction cup attached for days now without it coming loose.

Earth Field Motor Driving a Boat
There are fishing swivels as bearings on the top and the bottom of the armature holding it to the wooden hoop.
Some friction from the rotating armature through the bearings/swivels makes the boat turn a little bit but not nearly as fast as the statorless motor turns and it could be counteracted by a number of methods in theory. But we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
For now we see an Earth magnetic field permanent magnet statorless motor propelling a little aluminum pan boat at about 2-3 inches per minute South. (And the direction can be changed by repositioning the weight and altering the timing on the statorless motor)
This is pretty amazing in my book.

Earth Field Magnet Motor with PWM
Arduino Nano digital pin 3 isn't always PWM on knock off brands so was the case with this.
After rewiring to digital pin 5 PWM worked but not well with the boost converter. So at 5 volts the maximum speed the N20 motor will turn the magnets is 300RPM and that is what it does in this video.
But it runs so much more smoothly and quietly than it did before where it was using a method of starting and stopping the motor in the sketch/program for short intervals.
It will still do 300 RPM with 4 less of the N42 half inch diameter neo magnets.

It gets up to 360 RPM with some more magnets added to the stack.
Now the magnet bouncing up and down becomes a problem. The magnet jumps because the Earth's magnetic north is at an angle down.

Go Around Go Straight
Big magnets are powerful compasses which can turn our boat.
Not only do the rotate the boat in Earth's magnetic field but they
rotate the boat near the magnet and away from the center of mass (we maintain).
So when the second servo transfers the weight of the boat away from the magnets the boat travels.

Faster is Better
Attraction between two magnets is 1/d^3 while torque at 90 degrees between them is more like 1/d. So actually a factor of 2 greater and not as stated in the video a factor of 1.

Statorless Motor Using a 500 RPM N20 Motor
What lacks in torque makes up for in RPM and so we try to get the permanent magnet statorless Earth motor to turn faster and faster.
Here we have used a 500 RPM n20 gear motor and get the compass motor hanging from a fishing swivel in a hoop to spin at a little over 340 RPM.
At this point we will need to focus on better balance and perhaps a lower bearing.

Statorless Motor Going Smoothly at Full Speed 210 RPM
A faster electric motor will make it go much faster as can be seen that the magnets point only slightly north east and would reach maximum torque pointing all the way east.
Note the way the magnet and motor bob up and down. That is because the Earth's magnetic north is at an angle down towards the ground.
