Every creator has the right to do whatever he wants with his creation. We were created for a purpose, so what right do we have to complain if God decides to destroy us when we fail to live up to that purpose?

During Israel's conquest of the Promised Land, they always won the battle if they were faithful to YHWH. They always lost if they were unfaithful. Proceed accordingly.

In Joshua 9, the Gibeonites tricked Israel into making a foolish promise. In effect, this created a new commandment for the people of Israel and God would hold them accountable for it.

Does God help those who help themselves? If they are helping themselves to accomplish his will, yes, he does.

When Joshua's spies made a covenant with Rahab, they went beyond the letter of their commission, but not the spirit of it because they knew Joshua's character. Just as with these spies, whenever we do anything in Yeshua's name, we are claiming to do it in accordance with his character and will. Be careful that you aren't taking his name in vain.

There's a time to speak and a time to act, and there's a time to speak by acting.

We weren't created to sit on clouds playing harps forever. Our ultimate purpose is to work for God's Kingdom and we bring greatest honor to him and his free gift of salvation by responding with action.

When God gives you a mission, he also gives you the tactical and strategic support you need to execute it.

Was Rahab and her family saved because she helped Israel's spies or because she believed in Israel's God? Faith first, then works.

The reproach of Israel's slavery in Egypt wasn't the only thing that rolled at Gilgal in Joshua 5:9. And the LORD said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” And so the name of that place is called Gilgal to this day. Joshua 5:9 ESV

At some level, everyone fears death, but if you trust and fear God more, death holds no real threat.

Twelve stones, twelve loaves, twelve gates... these represent the twelve tribes of Israel. Going into the water and coming back up represents death to one life and resurrection to another.

God wants all of his people to understand his instructions, to act as priests and teachers to the rest of the world and draw all people to him.

In Joshua 15 Othniel gave Caleb the city of Kiriath-Sefer in exchange for his daughter, Achsah. This is called a bride price. Then Caleb gave Achsah a plot of land in the Negev and this would become part of Othniel's holdings when they married. This is called a dowry. If Othniel ever divorced Achsah, he would lose both the bride price and the dowry. It wasn't just buying and selling women. It was a system that tied families together and protected women from abuse.

For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Matthew 5:18 ESV
