Reliable data enables scientists, researchers, and engineers to proceed with confidence in research and product development, manage and control manufacturing quality, and optimize their output.
In this episode of Building Energy, we focus on Anton Paar’s battery analytical instruments for characterizing the physical properties of battery materials. The utilization of batteries is one of the fastest-growing industrial segments in the world. Numerous products including pacemakers, drones, cars, and now even airplanes, rely on batteries for power. Ensuring batteries are safe, powerful, and reliable is more critical than ever before.
However, the safety, performance, and lifetime of a battery will only be as good as the materials that go into making it. Specifically, the electrodes, separator, and electrolyte need to be fully characterized and monitored from the time they enter the production facility until they are incorporated into the final product.
Parameters that have to be measured include electrode surface area, crystal structure, particle and crystallite size, pore size, electrode slurry flow and curing properties, chemical purity of raw materials, separator pore size and structure properties, electrolyte viscosity, density, flash point.

The demands of the agricultural and farming industry are many and varied. The grain industry requires a very specialized conveyor belt to run efficiently and safely. This includes static conductivity as the belt often runs in an environment with explosive grain dust. In other instances, carrying soybeans requires an oil resistant rubber to avoid swelling and rubber deterioration.
Many export facilities will run beans, corn, wheat and other products so one belt has to provide performance for each style of product.
In addition, other applications involve carrying elevator buckets. These buckets are held onto the belt with bolts. Some of these systems carry incredible stress so the fabric needs to be adequate to handle these loads. The industry continues to increase capacity in these loading systems. The faster barges are loaded and on their way, the more economical the shipment.
Fenner Dunlop has multiple grain handling solutions including belting for elevators, milling, feed silos, and many other applications requiring durability, oil resistance, and protection against cold temperatures. Their range of agriculture products include highly durable belts for equipment such as potato harvesters and hay bailers and profiled belting for steep incline conveyors.
Learn More: https://fennerdunlopamericas.com/markets/agriculture/
They have also invented a unique fabric belt that offers improved bolt retention over traditional belts. The improved results run from 7% to over 40%! The amount of additional performance is dependent on the tension rating involved.
GRAINFLEX & GRAIN SUPREME
GrainFlex is produced with an UsFlex carcass to provide maximum rip and tear resistance coupled with superior bolt retention properties. It exceeds the OHSA requirements for the safest surface resistivity, which requires those superior anti-static properties. GrainFlex is also oil-resistant and fire-retardant.
Grain Supreme carcass delivers high strength along with low elongation and excellent fastener holding properties. It rivals other plied belts in the rip and tear resistance, belt retention, and tracking characteristics. It also meets or exceeds the OHSA requirements for conductivity and flame resistance.
Senior Vice President - Business Development Al Bonneau joins the discussion on Agriculture Now. He will be talking about his backstory before joining the company and Fenner Dunlop’s range of products specific to the agriculture sector.
Fenner Dunlop is a worldwide company that has been manufacturing conveyor belts since 1861. In 2018, Michelin bought Fenner and they have been cooperating in R&D and manufacturing since that time. Especially useful to use Michelin’s rubber expertise and sourcing during the supply chain challenges for raw materials.

In this episode of The Crownsmen Show, host Jerrod Downey welcomes Patrick Weaver, Mineral Processing Product Line Manager, and Gage Wandler, Digital Business Development Manager, from L&H Industrial.
L&H Industrial is a company known for its commitment to innovation and its ability to take on challenging projects in various industries. Their expertise lies in upgrading legacy equipment and providing maintenance and repairs for heavy machinery in industries such as mining and aggregates.
One of their notable projects is the upgrade of release systems for older crushers. These crushers originally had spring-loaded tensioners that posed a safety risk if uncrushable objects got stuck. L&H Industrial developed a hydraulic release system that not only improved safety but also increased production rates by reducing downtime for maintenance.
Another project successfully completed was the refurbishment of an old gyratory crusher. This rare crusher was one of only three in the world, and replacing it would have been a massive undertaking. Instead, L&H Industrial designed and machined new parts, made necessary improvements, and got the crusher back up and running without the need for a full replacement.
Their commitment to innovation and their willingness to tackle complex projects have earned them a loyal client base that relies on their expertise to keep their operations running smoothly. With a focus on safety, efficiency, and top-notch products and services, L&H Industrial continues to thrive in the heavy machinery industry.
