He is 17 and is arranged to be married with a young virgin witch named Beatrice, who is also his cousin. But can the witch tradition of arranged marriage to a relative work in today’s world?

The Kalaidzhi bride market takes place in the southeast of Bulgaria every year. Unmarried women are often paired off with financially strong men. But more and more young Roma are rebelling against the old tradition. For young Kalaidzhi the annual bride market at Bachkovo Monastery is the only chance to find a partner. Their Orthodox Christian faith and traditional code of conduct prohibit them from dating, flirting or having any other pre-marital relations. The Kalaidzhi - a name meaning tinsmiths or boilermakers - marry only within the group. Finding a spouse from outside - and in particular a non-Roma Bulgarian - is out of the question. Love is only a secondary consideration. What matters is the dowry. A growing number of young Roma, however, are rebelling against the traditional marriage market. They want to make their own decisions, and to love and marry the person of their choice. For girls especially - some as young as 15 when they are put up for marriage - the wedding is the end of self-determined life. They will subsequently be housewives and mothers. The film accompanies 17-year-old Teni and 19-year-old Maria in the week before the market day. For them it means buying a lot of new clothes and masses of other preparations. Can this be a way to find true love? And how is the outdated ritual affected by the Internet and social media?

NATO is starting its biggest-ever air drills. They involve thousands of troops and aircraft from 25 countries. Known as Operation Air Defender, most of the drills are being staged in the skies over Germany. The head of the country's air force says the exercise is aimed at demonstrating NATO's defense capabilities. The Luftwaffe air base in the northern state of Lower Saxony is serving as the central logistics hub for the manoeuvers. We talk about this with Kurt Volker. He is a former US Special Representative for Ukraine and former US Ambassador to NATO. He's now with the BGR Lobby Group and joins us from Washington.

Ukraine's military says it's retaken a fourth and a fifth village from Russian forces in the south-east. The gains reported over two days are the first in months – and are part of Kyiv's new counter-offensive. Ukrainian troops released this video claiming to show their flag being Blahodatne. Despite Kyiv's claim advancing a few kilometers, Russia's military continues to insist that it has succesfully repelled Ukrainian attacks in the area.

The German Air Force is facing its biggest challenge in decades: After four years of preparation, the NATO military exercise Air Defender 23 is set to begin on Monday, June 12. It's the biggest drill of its type since the military alliance was formed in 1949, and Germany will serve as the host and logistical hub. From June 12 to 23, up to 250 aircraft will be stationed across six military bases, with 25 countries taking part. The US alone is sending 100 aircraft across the Atlantic. In the air, participants will train in crisis situations over three flight zones: over northern Germany in the North Sea, in the east and in a small strip of southern Germany. These zones will be alternately closed to civilian aircraft each day for several hours.

Former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has died at the age of 86. He had served multiple terms as leader. He was admitted to a hospital in Milan on Friday for what aides said were pre-planned tests related to his leukemia. The billionaire businessman created Italy's largest media company and also owned the leading football club AC Milan. Berlusconi faced multiple legal and sex scandals, eventually leading to his resignation.

Ukraine says it has liberated four villages in the south-east, calling these the first settlements won back from Russia since Kyiv's counter-offensive began. On Monday morning, officials reported that "the national flag is once again waving" over Storozhove. It comes after President Zelensky acknowledged on Saturday that the long-awaited counter-offensive was under way.

In this edition of World News, the main stories involve Ukrainian forces managing to retake the first village during the counteroffensive, while the residents of Kherson are dealing with the aftermath of the flooding caused by the breach of the Nova Kakhovka Dam by Russian occupants. The regime in Belarus appears to be arming illegal "migrants,” as reported by Latvian border guards. Instances of attacks are occurring in other states bordering Belarus as well.

Donald Trump has now been impeached twice, indicted twice, but remains the frontrunner for the Republican nomination. In a recent interview, he vowed to stay in the race even if he gets convicted for any of the crimes for which he’s been charged. "If [Trump] gets back into power, he'll never leave," says Ruth Ben-Ghiat. "He needs to get back into power because he's so corrupt and shut down all investigations.” And while a handful of Republicans have notably criticized Trump post-indictment, the majority of the GOP have come to his defense and echoed his talking points. “The GOP, as you know, I feel they’re an autocratic party operating in a democracy,” Ben-Ghiat tells Ali Velshi. “They have talking points just like the Kremlin does and we have seen everybody use the same language about the weaponization of government.”
