Old Doe Down! Grey Old Muley Headed Doe Made A Mistake!
Had an old doe down today. This doe was in poor condition but the other one with her wasn't. Our doe population is a little out of balance but we will get it in check soon. I will hopefully take care of this in a year. A doe down will advance our goals to balance the herd. A correct ratio is a 1 to 1 ratio, one doe for one buck. The bucks are still running together and should be breaking up from their groups in the next few weeks. The rut will not be until the end of January. Thinning out the does will increase our odds in seeing a decent buck also.

Whitetail playing! What else can I do?
Today the whitetail playing and running. While I haven't been seeing deer since deer season ended, I have been planning for next season. Planning whitetail food plots and what is takes to make a healthy deer herd is a challenging task. It takes a lot of planning and hard work. Soil samples, site preparation, seed selection, and the list goes on and on. I will be doing a video from start to finish of planning a food plot the complete and correct way that works for me. Although I plant these plots for deer I also include plants for turkeys, rabbits, wild birds and many more animals. Getting ready for this season.

Old Split Toe made a Mistake! A nice evening buck hit the ground!
Old Split Toe came out in the Pond Patch this evening. Mike was shooting a 7mm Magnum and put the starvation bead on him at about 50 yards. We have been getting pictures of this buck since the spring. We will get his teeth aged and hopefully will know something shortly. A wildlife management program along with a habitat management program will greatly improve your whitetail deer herd. The coastal deer in Alabama are not built like the Black Belt deer for sure but all in all this is a decent buck and the habitat management program we have instituted is showing positive results. Mike saw 10 deer, I saw 9. This old fella was the last one to enter the patch. Split Toe is one for the books!

Police Satire, The Tennessee Highway Patrol Recruiting Video.
Police satire, The Tennessee Highway Patrol has a vintage recruiting video from the early 90s. If only the rest of the United States would have taken their skills and tactics then the United States would be a lot different. The police have a rough job and idiots make it a lot tougher. This is satire people so don't get triggered!

Night Hunting Alabama with an ATN 4K Pro Day/Night Scope
I have been night hunting alabama with my ATN scope. This is a daylight and nighttime digital scope. I haven't had much use as season will not start until February. I have filmed a few deer and rabbits. I haven't went after hogs and coyotes yet but soon I will be engaged in that night hunting.

Young Hunter Hunting Deer in Alabama
Bubba is a young hunter hunting food plots in South Alabama. Hunters should take a young hunter with them and get them active in the outdoors. We saw 2 does and 2 fawns. This was the first day of Alabama's youth season. Hunting deer is a nice way to spend the day. It's not always about the shot.

A Complete Deer Patch in The Making! Getting It Done Right!
A complete deer patch from start to finish. We disc our firebreak, burned off the patch. From there we disc the deer patch and drag it smooth for the seeds to have a good and firm seed bed. We fertilize and seed the patch, drag it in with a drag and then roll over it with a cultipacker. Now we wait for rain and deer! We have 8 food plots for different directions of wind. Stay tuned for the results!

Crossbow Zero and Confirm. Just checking the Barnett Jackal Crossbow.
Today I confirmed my crossbow zero. I was shooting a little to the left. I shot 20 yards, 30 yards, and then 60 yards. It still hit a touch to the right but I straightened it up. The zero is much like a rifles zero.

Planting fall foodplots for wildlife management. It's an all time thing!
This week we were planting fall foodplots in Salipta, Alabama. This is in a pine plantation. It is a small block of woods but deer are all around and so are hogs. We were planting wheat, oats, and elbon rye. This blend seems to work good for us in the past. We planted 3 foodplots in Salipta and 2 in Thomasville. With any luck the wildlife will benefit in the months to come. Wildlife management is a full time deal and is taken seriously.

Fall food plot blends for deer. This is a mix of wheat, oats, and rye.
Jumpercable and Cole planted a fall food plot blends of wheat, oats, and rye in this patch. This is a newly established plot, 1st year planting. This should provide nutrition to help the deer herd out while drawing in a few bucks. Fall food plot blends give the deer a variety and do not all mature at the same time. Blends are always a better option over a mono-culture! Fall food plots help out all the wildlife and the work is also good exercise.

Food Plot Failure! Jumpercable can't cut a tree right!
Jumpercable had a food plot failure this week while we were planting. He needed to cut 2 limbs but decided to cut the whole tree! This is on a new food plot we just established. This is in Salipta, Alabama. We planted 3 food plots with a mix of wheat, oats, and rye. This plot should provide us with good hunting for years to come. I have learned to live with a lot of his failures. Just stay tuned for more of the "Jumpercable Comedy Hour"!

Gopher turtle in Alabama just minding his own business.
This gopher turtle in Alabama only has one eye. I have seen it multiple times as it does its' morning walk. Gopher turtles love to dig their dens in the worst places it seems. We have a lot of them where we hunt and see them often. They eat grasses and berries. I have no idea how old this guy is but from the looks of it, well he, or she, must have had a hard life. A gopher turtle doesn't pose any threat to us so we just leave them alone. They crawl down the roads and make a nice trail of footprints on the sandy roads.

Found an old water crossing in the woods! Wonder who made it.
While hunting squirrels I came across an old water crossing. This thing has an iron rock bottom and I can see where the road went up thru the trees. This is the crossing I use when hunting. Trees have over taken the old road. I have searched and found the location of an old homestead and an old water well. There was also a plane crash in this area in the 70s. I also show what cogangrass looks like and how to identify it. It is a useless species that has taken over the south!

Is this spider poisonous? It was inside my truck just hanging out!
Is this spider poisonous? I got in my truck and here this spider right by my head! It wasn't aggressive or protective. Looked like something out of a movie. It isn't a black widow or brown recluse spider so I wasn't overly concerned but was curious if it was poisonous. It had begun making a web so I can't stand that stuff on my face. Spider silk itches and just feels icky. What do you think? Should I have killed it or was I right in letting it go? Put your answer in the comments

Get ready deer season and I have to get the place ready!
Once again, I have to get ready deer season. This week I have been cutting trails, roads, plots and basically cleaning up the hunting grounds. I will have 9 food plots this year. If it ever quits raining then I will be burning off 4, maybe 5, food plots. This will clean up and grasses and leaf litter for this deer season. Deer season preparation can be conducted throughout the year. I spend 9 months getting ready for the 3 months of open season. After the burn I will break the ground up for planting. My plan is to plant around the 3rd weekend in October. This should be around the time that the rain returns. October is our dry month. Unfortunately the 3rd weekend is the opening weekend of bow season. The work has to get done though. I will keep ya'll updated!

Alaska night jumpers jump in the hours of darkness, yet it's daylight!
Alaska night jumpers conduct airborne operations during the hours of darkness in the summer, problem is it doesn't get dark! Then in the winter the hours of daylight, well, it's dark! You get the picture. In Alaska the operations can be confusing. Jumpers conduct heavy drops, door bundles, and mass tact jumps. The jumps are normally 800 feet above ground level. As you can see, the arctic paratrooper is expected to carry their own body weight in equipment. This is expected of every paratrooper in the United States Army. The 4th Battalion, 25th Airborne Infantry Brigade is stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska. This is located just north of Anchorage. The elements are harsh and unforgiving. AATW!

Calling a thunder chicken down in the Alabama Swamp!
Scott Wiley was calling a thunder chicken and had him on a roll! A Thunder Chicken is another name for a male turkey, a gobbler, long beard, old tom, or a tom turkey. He gobbled from daylight till noon. He was hung up and just would not come in. Scott played him some love music and that long beard turkey was love struck! He gobbled constantly! a purr, gobble, a cackle, gobble! Life goes by and one must appreciate and enjoy the outdoors. There is nothing like spring turkey season. Calling a turkey is extremely challenging and will put your outdoor skills to the test. It is said if a turkey could smell then he would be invincible! Their eyesight and hearing are excellent!

Ammo failure golden ring and how it can turn out badly
Ammo failure golden ring can show up after extended use of a piece of brass or due to excessive pressure. Neither instance is a good thing. It is very important to inspect your brass and cull out any that show any type of excessive indicators. Ammo failure can damage yourself, the gun, or both. Brass moves and stretches after being shot and can eventually stretch to its breaking point. The "Golden Ring" shows the weakening of the brass and is a tell tale indicator. Failures can be avoided. Be SAFE!

Trigger Tech Diamond Trigger installed on my Bergara B14 Hunter.
I installed a Trigger Tech Diamond trigger on my Bergara B14 Hunter rifle. A gun trigger installation doesn't have to be complicated! This trigger adjusts from 4 ounces to 32 ounces. I prefer a light trigger even while hunting. Trigger Tech is becoming the go-to trigger for hunters as well as competitors. So far I LOVE this trigger! No creep, it breaks real crisp. A rifle trigger installation for this gun is removal of two pins and drop it in. This trigger lets me stay on target and with the pull weight it allows me to easily stay on target. Combine this trigger with a Bergara and this is my dream gun! Aim small, miss small!
