Brazil U20 2-3 Israel U20 (FIFA U20 World Cup Knockout 2023)
In sensational upset, Israel downs Brazil 3-2 to reach U-20 World Cup semifinal
del Bicentenario stadium in San Juan, Argentina, on June 3, 2023.
In a landmark achievement for Israeli soccer, the national under-20 team upset powerhouse Brazil 3-2 in extra time in the World Cup quarterfinals on Saturday, advancing to the semifinals and continuing the youth team’s unprecedented run.
In a back-and-forth game, Israel twice quickly equalized after conceding goals, once in the second half and again at the beginning of the 30-minute extra time period after regulation time ended in a draw.
At the tail end of the extra time’s first half, forward Dor Turgeman maneuvered past several defenders near the goal and blasted the ball into the net, stunning Brazil and bringing the Jewish state to the event’s semifinal. Israel went on to miss two penalty kicks in the final minutes of the game.
This is the first time the Israeli squad had ever qualified for the global under-20 competition, and the victory over soccer powerhouse Brazil marked perhaps Israeli soccer’s biggest-ever achievement.
“This is for the entire nation,” said coach Ofir Haim after the win. “I want to unite this amazing, wonderful country. We have players who believe in themselves, we have the capabilities. We want to reach the final.”
In its semifinal, to be played on Thursday, Israel will face the winner of Sunday’s quarterfinal clash between Uruguay and the US.

Argentina U20 0-2 Nigeria U20 (FIFA U20 World Cup Knockout 2023)
Nigeria delivered a shock to the host nation and tournament favorites, Argentina, with a sensational 2-0 victory on Wednesday to reach the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Goals from Ibrahim Muhammad and Rilwanu Haliru Sarki in the Round of 16 encounter propelled the Flying Eagles into the last eight in a match filled with excitement and suspense.
The game commenced with Nigeria showing early promise, displaying their attacking intent. However, as the first half progressed, La Albiceleste gradually gained control of the proceedings.
Veliz had a couple of half-chances to break the deadlock, with one header narrowly sailing over the crossbar and another flicked effort safely gathered by Nigeria's goalkeeper, Kingsley Aniagboso.
It was in the second half that the Nigerian breakthrough arrived. Emmanuel Umeh delivered a perfectly weighted pass over the top, finding Ibrahim Muhammad, who expertly directed the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Federico Gomes Gerth.
The goal ignited jubilation among the Nigerian contingent, while Argentina intensified their pursuit of an equalizer.
Luka Romero came agonizingly close to leveling the scoreline when his powerful low strike rattled the inside of the post, leaving Nigeria momentarily relieved.
The tension in the stadium reached fever pitch as Argentina pressed forward relentlessly, desperate to keep their tournament dreams alive.
In a dramatic turn of events, Rilwanu Haliru Sarki emerged as the hero for Nigeria in the dying minutes of the match. With time running out, Sarki leapt high to connect with a cross, guiding a perfectly timed header into the back of the net.
The celebration that followed was a testament to the magnitude of Nigeria's achievement.
This remarkable victory propels Nigeria into the quarterfinals, where they will face the winners of the Ecuador-Korea Republic clash in Santiago del Estero on Sunday.

Vamos, Vamos, Argentina
'Muchachos'
I was born in Argentina, land of Diego and Lionel,
Of the kids from Malvinas, which I will never forget.
I can't explain it to you,
Because you won't understand,
The finals we lost, how many years I cried for them.
But that's over, because in the Maracana,
The final with the 'Brazucas', Daddy beat them again.
Guys, now we're excited again,
I want to win the third, I want to be world champion,
And Diego, in heaven we can see him,
With Don Diego and La Tota,
Encouraging Lionel!

Morocco vs Spain 3-0 on penalties – As it happened.
La Roja missed all three of their penalties in the shoot-out as the North Africans made it to the quarterfinals for the first time.
Asensio and Aguerd missed good chances for either side in the first half
Morocco were playing their first World Cup knockout game since 1986
Sarabia hit the post in the last minute of extra time
Morocco 0-0 Spain (3-1 penalties)
Match review
Morocco made it to the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup™ for the first time after holding their nerve in the penalty shoot-out while Spain lost theirs.
Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou played a pivotal role after a goalless 120 minutes, saving penalties from Carlos Soler and Sergio Busquets after Pablo Sarabia had struck the post.
Abdelhamid Sabiri and Hakim Ziyech scored theirs but Badr Benoun was thwarted by Unai Simon, meaning Morocco had to wait a moment longer to confirm their victory, finally celebrating when Achraf Hakimi sent the Spain keeper the wrong way.
It was a familiar story for Spain, who dominated possession but struggled to carve out many chances. In fact, they had only one effort in the first half, their lowest shot count in a World Cup match since 1966. It fell to Marco Asensio, who got in behind the defence but dragged his shot wide of the near post.
Morocco pressed Spain smartly and had three decent chances, the clearest being a free header for Nayef Aguerd which narrowly missed the target. The match remained tense and tight until the final few minutes of normal time, in which Bounou tipped away a skidding free-kick from Dani Olmo and Abde Ezzalzouli almost caught out Simon in possession.
A similar script followed in extra time when Morocco had two more glorious chances, both falling to Walid Cheddira. First the substitute failed to get his shot away and was dispossessed by Aymeric Laporte, then he did manage to fire at goal but was thwarted by Simon's right leg.
Key moment
Substitute Sarabia had a glorious chance to win the match with practically the last kick. The ball fell to him inches from goal at the far post but, from a difficult angle, he hit the far post. That gave Morocco a sense that this was their night, and so it proved.
Key stat
Spain have exited their last three major competitions on penalties, losing to Russia at the 2018 World Cup and to Italy at UEFA EURO 2020.
Player of the match
Yassine Bounou (Morocco)

Bike Made of 22 Carat Gold Gifted to Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia FALSE?

Video: Did Cristiano Ronaldo get golden motorcycle as gift from Saudi Ruler?
A 27-second TikTok clip, which has gone viral, says the bike is made of 22K gold
clip has been shared multiple times on social media with a claim that says it is a golden motorcycle given to Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo by the ruler of Saudi Arabia.
"Motorcycle made of 22-karat gold, gifted to CR7 (Cristiano Ronaldo) by the ruler of Saudi Arabia,” reads the caption of a Facebook post published on May 10, 2023
A 27-second TikTok clip published with the post shows a golden motorcycle parked in a hall with a Saudi Arabian flag in the background. The claim also appeared elsewhere on Facebook.
Ronaldo signed for Saudi-based football club Al Nassr in December 2022, making his official debut for the club in January 2023.
But the claim that the golden motorcycle was gifted to Ronaldo — by Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia — is false.
The account has various videos of golden motorcycles including pictures from bike shows. Two of the videos posted on the account in 2018 and 2020 match the video in the claim.
Further searches using keywords such as “Faisal Abu Sara motorcycle” and “Golden motorcycle in Saudi Arabia” led to Facebook accounts here and here with more videos of the motorbike. The posts credit Abu Sara as the owner.
Also, in another video published in 2018, Abu Sara introduced himself, talked about the process of building the bike and about the competitions he participated in.
“I’m from Saudi Arabia, we came here for a motorcycle competition. I built this bike, this kind of Hayabusa Suzuki, we built it ourselves. It is all coated with gold, 24 carats (...), all customised and handmade. We have already won many trophies, I have achieved many things, such as first place,” he said.
The AFP digital verification team contacted Abu Sara for more details. On May 22, 2023, he replied on Instagram, saying he has had the bike for eight years and it does not belong to Ronaldo.
