Mario and Luigi in The Super Mario Bros. Movie (Photo by Universal Pictures) [Box office figures as of 5/24/2023] WhileAvengers: Endgame andAvatar recently duked it out for bragging rights as the all-time highest-grossing movie, 2021 surprised everyone — to an extent — with the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which blew everyone away, setting new records and entertaining fans all over the world even as the COVID-19 pandemic continued to wreak havoc on the industry. WithNo Way Home landing at No. 6 and Disney’s absorption of what used to be 21st Century Fox, Disney now occupies seven of the 10 top box office rankings of all time worldwide (eight, if you count its joint ownership of Titanic with Paramount).
But even after the release of would-be juggernauts like The Batman, Jurassic World Dominion,The Batman, and a pair of Marvel movies in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness andThor: Love and Thunder, only one film has managed to crack this list in 2022, and boy was it a big one. Tom Cruise suited up again to play ace pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in Joseph Kosinski’s three-and-a-half-decades-later sequelTop Gun: Maverick and delivered what was easily the biggest movie of the summer (and probably the entire year), landing at N0. 13 in the worldwide box office rankings. Who would have thought?
In 2023, The Super Mario Bros. Movie surprised everyone by jolting into the top half of this list in its first six weeks of release. Beyond that, the year does not have a lot of contenders to crack the billion club. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is likely to come up short. Can the farewell of Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny go where the archaeologist has never gone before — without an inflation calculator that is? Can Tom Cruise finally get a Mission: Impossible into the club it deserves? After that, there are no guarantees and we likely won’t need to reconvene until 2024.
For the list below, we’ve included global box office performance, as well as domestic, and release date. We included dollars earned in re-releases, and in each of our descriptions, we look at where the film stood record-wise at the time of its run, and dive into things like critical and audience reception. We’ll be here to track the progress of new blockbusters and regularly update this list of top box office performers. This week’s movie and TV recommendations include the live-action version of an animated Disney classic, and streaming options about friendships, Chinese mythical gods, a CIA family, and some guy named John Wick. What will you be watching? 67% The Little Mermaid (2023) Critics Consensus: With Halle Bailey making a major splash in the title role, Disney’s live-actionLittle Mermaidranks among the studio’s most enjoyable reimaginings. Why We’re Watching: Halle Bailey stars in this iteration as Ariel and has been getting universal praise for her portrayal, she is also joined by talented names like Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, and Melissa McCarthy in supporting roles, with McCarthy stepping into the tentacles of sea witch Ursula. Lin-Manuel Miranda also co-wrote all the new songs, alongside composer Alan Menken, who worked on the original animated film’s soundtrack. Where to Watch: In theaters 92% Platonic: Season 1 (2023) Critics Consensus: Even with bold swings and romance off the table, the rambunctious rapport between Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen makesPlatonican ideal relationship comedy. Why We’re Watching: Launching on Apple TV+ is the Certified Fresh comedy series, Platonic starring Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne, who play former best friends who reconnect in midlife after a long rift, and their relationship begins to destabilize their lives. And if those two stars aren’t reason enough to watch, how about the fact that they reunited with series co-creator Nick Stoller, who directed some of the comedy films these two are known for like Neighbors and Neighbors 2 . Where to Watch: Apple TV 95% American Born Chinese: Season 1 (2023) Critics Consensus: Jam packed with inventive flourishes and grounded by lovable actors, American Born Chinesemusters epic elements from Chinese mythology to tell a deeply relatable coming of age story. Why We’re Watching: This show is based on the 2006 graphic novel of the same name, and stars the incomparable Michelle Yeoh — reason Nos. 1 through 100 to watch this one. M aking this one even more appealing is the fact that directors like Lucy Liu and Destin Daniel Cretton did their work behind the camera, proving that the talent spreads far and wide on this series. And critics seem to agree, with early reviews putting this one Certified Fresh in the 90s on the Tomatometer and praise going toward the updates and expansion of the source material. Where to Watch: Disney+ 50% FUBAR: Season 1 (2023) Critics Consensus: With jokes that fall flat and a story that borrows liberally from star Arnold Schwarzenegger’s earlier career triumphs,FUBARis just OK. Why We’re Watching: The main reason to check out this Netflix comedy series is that it stars Schwarzenegger in his first starring role in a scripted live-action series. He stars as a C.I.A. operative nearing retirement who finds out that his daughter (played by Monica Barbaro) is also now C.I.A., leading to some very interesting family dynamics. And if you’re not already sold on this one, check out the comedy-heavy supporting cast that includes Fortune Feimster, Jay Baruchel, Gabriel Luna, Milan Carter, and even Schwarzenegger’s old pal Tom Arnold. Where to Watch: Netflix 94% John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023) Critics Consensus: John Wick: Chapter 4 piles on more of everything — and suggests that when it comes to a well-dressed Keanu Reeves dispatching his enemies in lethally balletic style, there can never be too much. Why We’re Watching: John Wick 4 is offici...

The premiere of The Idol at the Cannes Film Festival put some critics off their canapés this week. Plus, Game of Thrones star Indira Varma will join the new season of Doctor Who , Sigourney Weaver will star in and executive produce The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, Prime Video ordered Daniel Dae Kim spy thriller Butterfly to series, Only Murders in the Building season 3 may have a musical episode, and a trailer dropped for season 3 of I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson . TOP STORY The Idol Endures First Reviews Out of Cannes Euphoria creator Sam Levinson and music artist Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye’s HBO drama The Idolwent into its Cannes Film Festival premiere with baggage: for one, sources in a fiery March Rolling Stone expose calling the production “a s—show” and “torture porn.”
Starring Lily-Rose Depp and Tesfaye, the delayed series will finally roll out to viewers early next month. Critics who saw the Cannes premiere, however, are warning that the series, about a music star who falls under the influence of a cult-like leader, comes off as “sleazy” and “gross.” It currently has a 27% Tomatometer score on 15 reviews. Here are some reactions from the critics at Cannes: “It’s crude, gross, and sexist.” – Robert Daniels, The Playlist “Grim, gross, and vulgar.” – Roger Friedman, Showbiz 411 “The show’s sleaze (intentional and not) would be one thing, but it’s the hideous, self-excusing presentation of rape culture that rankles.” – Caspar Salmon, The Daily Beast “Sexiness is absent in The Idol, for all Depp’s loveliness. Instead, it feels more like sleaze and torture porn.” – Jo-Ann Titmarsh, London Evening Standard “Nasty, brutish, [feels] much longer than it is, and way, way worse than you’d have anticipated.” – David Fear, Rolling Stone “The script seems calculated to fool audiences into thinking they’re observing how Hollywood operates, when so much of it amounts to tawdry clichés.” – Peter Debruge, Variety “Even the music is dreadful.” – Robbie Collin, Daily Telegraph (UK) The reviews are not all negative, however: “The Idol offers up enough regular old entertainment to balance out his aggressive flourish and the bluster of his thematic ambitions.” – Richard Lawson, Vanity Fair “The way it captures the sickness of the fame machine will stay with you long after the credits roll.” – Lex Briscuso, Mashable “The same audiences that fell hard for Euphoria — another show about the terrors of being young — will likely do the same for this one. It is buzzy, brazen television that will do exactly what it set out to do: get people talking.” – Douglas Greenwood, Vogue And Ed Potton of the Times (UK)offered this backhanded compliment: “There’s an authentic and chilling lack of worthiness in the way #MeToo and mental health are tackled.” The Idol premieres on Sunday, June 4 on HBO. – Debbie Day Trailers: I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson Brings Loads of Rage, Absurdity, and Laughs in Season 3 Trailer Tim Robinson’s offbeat brand of humor is coming back to Netflix for a new installment and, by the looks of the above trailer, we can safely say, “Triples is best.”
There’s nothing really coherent going on in the clip – well, aside from a bunch of blabbering screaming fits by the program’s star and creator – but that’s all a part of the Emmy-winning sketch series’ charm. And considering the stacked roster of guest stars, which includes Jason Schwartzman, Tim Meadows, Fred Armisen, Sam Richardson, Will Forte, Patti Harrison, Ayo Edebiri, Mitra Jouhari, Tim Heidecker, Beck Bennett, Conner O’Malley, Biff Wiff, and Carmen Christopher, we’re betting this new outing will tickle the funny bone in a variety of disturbing and concerning ways.
“We’re gonna go nuts,” a random man says in the trailer. We believe you, Mr. Robinson. And we are here for it. I Think You Should Lea...

This WEEK’S TOP STORY JOHN WICK UNIVERSE TO CONTINUE WITH JOHN WICK 5 AND SPIN-OFFS Keanu Reeves in John Wick: Chapter 4 (Photo by Murray Close/Lionsgate) Most studios try to build cinematic universes with consistent box office appeal, but Lionsgate is one that’s actually done it, with four John Wick films to date. Lionsgate recently wrapped filming on the first John Wick spin-off, Ballerina, releasing June 7, 2024, and starring Ana de Armas, and this week, Lionsgate Chairman Joe Drake revealed other John Wick expansion plans. Those plans include (somehow) a John Wick 5, and as Drake said, “What is official is that, as you know, Ballerina is the first spin-off that comes out next year. We’re in development on three others, including [John Wick] 5 and including the television series, The Continental, which will be airing soon.” Mel Gibson will star in the series The Continental: From the World of John Wick when it premieres on Peacock this fall on September 22. Read Also: Everything We Know About John Wick TV Series The Continental 1. VIN DIESEL TEASES ALL-FEMALE FAST FURIOUS SPIN-OFF Fast X poster (click to open full poster in new tab) (Photo by Universal Pictures) Two weeks ago, a quote from Vin Diesel suggested that Fast X would be the first part of a three-part finale to The Fast and the Furious franchise. This week, however, Diesel seemed to explain how the eventual 11th Fast and Furious film can be the franchise finale, but that there are two movies still to come. That’s because Diesel confirmed plans for an all-female Fast and Furious spin-off. Who exactly would make up such a team isn’t clear, but there are several characters the film could include those played by Brie Larson, Daniela Melchior, Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron, and Cardi B. The Variety article also seemed to imply that another actress could be featured, but this one is definitely a Fast X spoiler. There are currently no release dates for the untitled 11th Fast and Furious or the female spin-off. 2. QUENTIN TARANTINO’S THE MOVIE CRITIC WON’T BE AS PREVIOUSLY REPORTED (Photo by ABC via Getty Images)
When Quentin Tarantino’s 10th (and possibly final) film was announced in March as being The Movie Critic , with a 1970s setting, many film journalists suspected that it would be based on groundbreaking critic Pauline Kael. That speculation was based on word that the leading character would be a female, but in a more recent interview at Cannes, Tarantino revealed that the lead character will instead be a real-life critic (“but was never really famous”) who wrote for a “porno rag” magazine in the 1970s. As for The Movie Critic being Tarantino’s final film as director, he clarifies in the second half of the interview that his plans could include expanding into directing a TV series. Writer-director Paul Schrader also this week revealed (toward the end of this IndieWire interview) that Tarantino might be remaking the end of 1977 revenge thriller Rolling Thunder , based on Schrader’s original story, to include in The Movie Critic. 3. MOANA STAR AULI’I CRAVALHO WON’T JOIN DWAYNE JOHNSON IN LIVE-ACTION REMAKE Moana (2016) (Photo by Walt Disney) Last month, Dwayne Johnson announced at a Disney shareholders event that he plans on starring in an upcoming live-action remake of the...

For the completionist’s sake, we’re also including sequels like 102 Dalmatians in this list, and well as movies whose stories haven’t necessarily been told before, but which re-purpose old animated characters, like Christopher Robin.
We’re also including a few remakes from the 1990s which predate the current pile-on. In 2019 alone, there were five releases: Dumbo, Aladdin, The Lion King, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, and Lady and the Tramp. Cruella did well enough as the first major release to have a premiere during the pandemic era (and you’ve got to roll out the red carpet for the Dalmatians villain), though additional entries to this series (2022’s Pinocchio and 2023’s Peter Pan and Wendy) have found varying degrees of success. The latest is The Little Mermaid, with Snow White set for 2024, along with a Mufasa-centric addition to Lion King.

Joy-Anna Duggar Slammed For Unsafe Parenting Just Days After Welcoming Third Child
Earlier this month, Joy-Anna Duggar welcomed her third child, a boy for whom she selected the very Duggar-like name of Gunner. It might be a while before Young Gunner is capable of handling a firearm, but his name is a clear reflection of the Duggar family’s love for all things weapon-related. Anyway, Joy seems to be loving life as a mother of three, and she’s been posting frequent updates about her new bundle of joy. But she hasn’t forgotten about her other kids, of course, and Joy’s latest post shined a spotlight on her daughter, Evelyn. Joy-Anna Duggar posted this...
Joy-Anna Duggar posted this photo of her husband and daughter. (Photo Credit: Instagram) “Bailing hay today,” Joy captioned the photo above. “The kids got to drive the tractors and learned the process of storing up hay for the winter.” Joy also shared a pic of Gunner, who apparently joined her in watching the proceedings. Joy-Anna Duggar shared this pic of her youngest child. (Photo Credit: Instagram) Now, the whole afternoon looks perfectly innocent and wholesome, but mom-shaming the Duggars is one of the internet’s favorite pastimes, so commenters were quick to roast Joy’s parenting decisions. “Shouldn’t you be at home out of the hot sun with a newborn baby[?]” one person asked, according to UK tabloid The Sun. “Kids are adorable, but bare feet on a tractor and on a farm is a recipe for big problems. Take it from someone who grew up in farm country,” another added. Joy-Anna Duggar has a reason to be smiling in this photo. As you can see, she’s been blessed with another kid. (instagram) “Little girl needs shoes on when around farm equipment, please be careful! Cute pictures with dad,” a third chimed in. Thankfully, Joy has been a Duggar her entire life, so she’s probably used to pointless criticism of everything she does. As for Gunner’s name, it appears to have been a last-second decision. He’s here! Joy-Anna Duggar has shared this photo of her third child, Gunner James Forsyth. (instagram) A few weeks before the boy’s birth, Joy indicated that she was leaning toward naming him James as a tribute to Austin’s late grandfather. “Just to give you guys a sneak peek, we are definitely using James either as a first name or the middle name. I’m thinking it will probably be used as a middle name,” Joy wrote in response to a fan’s question, “Austin’s papaw passed away a few years ago, and he told him before he passed that our next boy would have ‘James’ in it. He agreed that we would do that. Joy-Anna Duggar has welcomed her third child. (Photo Credit: Instagram) “We’re going to have James mixed in there somewhere,” she continued. “His name was Edwin James Forsyth, and it was about using his name and honoring him in that way.” In the end, they went with James as a middle name, so they’re still paying tribute to Austin’s gramps. Joy-Anna Duggar is ready to welcome her third child. (Photo Credit: Instagram) And if he were alive, he’d probably be grateful that Joy and Austin didn’t name their son Edwin. It’s bad enough there’s a kid named Spurgeon in this family!

Is Luis Ruelas the Next Jen Shah? Class Action Suit Accuses Luis’ Company of …
A lot of people have had a lot of negative things to say about Teresa Giudice’s husband, Luis Ruelas. Even at this season’s RHONJ Reunion special, we’ll hear accusations that Luis is responsible for a Housewife’s child experiencing harassment and threats. Not every accusation against Luis is for the cameras. And not every accusation is just gossip, either. A woman is suing Luis’ company for harassment. Seated behind Teresa Giudice at the Season 13 Reunion, Luis Ruelas seemed to oscillate between claiming innocence and hinting that he has a lot of dirt on the cast. (Bravo) As we know, Luis lost his old job when he became a reality TV personality. We don’t mean that he quit to become Teresa’s Bravolebrity Househusband. Rather, his employer let him go when alarming stories about his past began to reflect poorly upon the company. But Luis “Louie” Ruelas had already created a business, Digital Media Solutions, many years earlier. According to Luis Ruelas, his brother-in-law is “going through something.” (Image Credit: Bravo) (Bravo) Us Weekly reports that a woman named Juanita Williams has filed a class-action lawsuit against Choice Health Insurance and against Digital Media Solutions. This is new — she filed earlier in May. According to her, she has received numerous telemarketing calls from these firms. The catch? She is listed on the national “Do Not Call” registry. Luis Ruelas says that he is always receiving blame from his future brother-in-law, and that his then-fiancee’s ex-husband warned him that this would be the case. (Image Credit: Bravo) (Bravo) Williams is seeking $1,500 per call. Additionally, her filing includes an allegation that one of Choice Health’s calls in September of 2022, when she answered, transferred her immediately to one of their insurance agents. According to the lawsuit, the healthcare company informed her that Digital Media Solutions had provided her number for them as a prospective sales lead. Teresa Giudice thanked her “chosen family” for attending her and Luis Ruelas’ housewarming “love bubble” party, which felt like a jab at a certain someone. (Bravo) Ruelas launched Digital Media Solutions in 2012 This firm presents itself as a “leading provider of technology-enabled digital performance advertising solutions” with the aim of “connecting consumers and advertisers.” There are absolutely ad services that can benefit both the seller and the consumer. But that doesn’t mean that people are always happy about these “connections.” Obviously. Luis Ruelas suggests two motives for backlash: his brother-in-law wanting to feel needed, and projection. (Image Credit: Bravo) (Bravo) Digital Media Solutions lists Luis Ruelas as both cofounder and the executive vice president of business development. Luis has not publicly addressed the lawsuit. Neither has his wife, Teresa Giudice. Any legal case involving these two is likely to receive a lot of scrutiny. But, we should emphasize that it does not involve Teresa beyond the fact that it’s her husband’s company. Though the Reunion could have been a time to soften their image, Teresa Giudice and Luis Ruelas doubled down on hostilities. (Bravo) So, what is this all about? Is this a frivolous lawsuit from someone who hates spam calls as much as the rest of us? We do not claim to know the facts of the case. However, if someone on the Do Not Call list received unwelcome business solicitations anyway, then yeah, that could be a big deal. And a costly mistake. Referring to his brother-in-law, Luis Ruelas says that he has remained “calm in the last three months around an animal like that?â (Image Credit: Bravo) (Bravo) This is a federal law, and Congress ensured that Americans can sue for statutory damages when companies make unsanctioned calls like this. If it’s 100 calls, Luis and his company...

The duo continued to fuel dating rumors once more with new hangouts in New York City on May 25, 2023. Camila Cabelloand Shawn Mendescould seemingly be back together! The former couple, who announced the end of their romantic relationship with a joint statement on Nov. 17, 2021, were seen packing on the PDA at Coachella on April 14, 2023! After over a year of being apart, the two were kissing in the audience. Shawn and Camila went into their romance as best friends navigating their way through Hollywood as young, new artists, and they soon became two of the most sought after singers in the biz. They were an amazing couple, but their love didn’t last. Still — we’ll always have the memories and so will they. To relive some of them now, take a look at their romantic timeline below: First Meeting
While there’s no photos from their first meeting in 2014, we can only imagine the glow these two probably had at the time. Shawn and Camila met while working together on singer Austin Mahone ’s 2014 tour.During Shawn Mendes: In Wonder , (the singer’s 2020 Netflix music documentary) the couple recalled their first impressions of one another.
“Camila, she was in Fifth Harmony and we were both opening my very first tour ever,” Shawn recalled in the November-released project. “She was the act after me. I was the first in the lineup, with the shortest set, and then they went on. Five years ago, man,” he says. For her part, Camila remembered Shawn as “super hyper-focused,” and explained that she “never saw him that whole tour. He was constantly going in and out of his bus, playing guitar, writing songs,” Camila said.

(Photo credit: SplashNews) After their first meeting, the first time Shawn and Camila were photographed was at the 2015 Video Music Awards in Los Angeles. Camila, at the time, was still a member of the girl group Fifth Harmony . The pair, who were still just friends at this point in their relationship, attended an afterparty at Ysabel in West Hollywood, thrown by Republic Records. A few weeks later, in September (2015), Shawn and Camilareunited at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas. Sometime that same year, the pair crossed paths again at a Taylor Swift concert. “I went to his dressing room to say hi. And we, like, started writing this song,” Camila recalled in Shawn’s Netflix documentary. “Then after that, we like, spent a lot of time with each other because we had the song together and we did a whole Jingle Ball tour together. And that’s really when the f–king saga started,” she explained, admitting, “I really liked him. I guess he liked me, but I don’t really know.” First Collaboration In late November of 2015, Shawn and Camila teamed up for their first collaboration: “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” The upbeat track was a hit and went on to top the music charts. The song also marked Camila’s first solo music venture outside of Fifth Harmony. She would eventually depart from the group in December 2016. Simply enter a random five-letter word and the website highlights certain letters green if they are correct, yellow if they are correct but in the wrong spot, or grey if they are not in the word at all. With this information, players need to try to figure out the word within the six guesses to be successful. These types of guessing games have been around for a long time. Some people may remember the old board game called Mastermind, where players are tasked with guessing a row of colored pegs that utilizes the same hint systems found in Wordle. If players would like to try the game for themselves, it can be found on the Wordle website, which creates a new puzzle every day, keeps track of players' win streaks and guess distribution, and has a popular sharing ability. Wordle also has a 'hard mode' that can be turned on in the options that stop players from using letters already proven to be incorrect. (Photo by TriStar Pictures/courtesy Everett Collection) Rocky. Rambo. Indeed, a little R R was all Sylvester Stallone needed to set up his Hollywood fortune for life. 1976’s Best Picture-winning Rocky established that character as a symbol of populist inspiration, so Stallone maneuvered Rambo as a political creation, reflecting America’s military might and meddling, especially inside the first three movies.
Now, the 1982 original doesn’t even have Rambo in the title: It’s just First Blood , and sees Stallone as the central John wandering America as a disaffected Vietnam War veteran, one already chewed up and spit out as he crosses a sadistic small-town sheriff (Brian Dennehy). Despite mediation from Stallone’s former Colonel, Sam Trautman (Richard Crenna), the sheriff’s cruelty reverts John back to a primal state, deploying survival techniques learned in the jungles of Southeast Asia.
Originally considered a career killer in its original cut, wholesale editing of First Blood transformed Stallone’s character from a wisecracking ass to a hardened, stoic action icon, the right man for the wrong times of a post-disco, post-recession America. First-time First Blood viewers will be surprised at the body count of one.
The same certainly can’t be said of the sequels, as the guilt-obliterating outlook of Reagan-era society took the lead. 1985’s Rambo: First Blood Part II witnesses John returning to Vietnam for a POW reconnaissance mission in exchange for a prison sentence pardon. Once the Soviets get involved (they apparently didn’t learn their lesson in Rocky IV, which was playing on big screens down the hall that same year), only a hail of gunfire, explosions, and rockets can wrap up the job.
The international havoc continued with 1988’s Rambo III , as John leaves Thailand for involvement in the Soviet-Afghan War, supporting the Mujahideen in order to get close to a captured Colonel Trautman. Nine months after John Rambo’s fictional involvement, the real-world conflict ended.
After the success of rehabilitating Rocky Balboa’s reputation with the 2006 title movie, Stallone similarly pulled writer/director/star triple duty with 2008’s Rambo . The film is even more fascinated with violence and commentary, as John, still in Thailand, leads a mission to Burma to save Bible-spreading missionaries. A decade later, Stallone finally brings it back home with Rambo: Last Blood , as he decorates his Arizona homestead with Home Alone -esque (or Death Wish 3 , if you will) booby traps to defend against the Mexican cartel.
With the story of one man named John seemingly complete, we’re now ranking all the Rambo movies by Tomatometer! —Alex Vo #1 Adjusted Score: 86939% Critics Consensus: Much darker and more sensitive than the sequels it spawned, First Blood is a thrilling survival adventure that takes full advantage of Sylvester Stallone's acting skills. Synopsis: Vietnam veteran and drifter John J. Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) wanders into a small Washington town in search of an old... [More] #2 Adjusted Score: 42865% Critics Consensus: Rambo III finds its justice-dispensing hero far from the thoughtful drama that marked the franchise's beginning -- and just as far from quality action thriller entertainment. [More] #3 Adjusted Score: 42368% Critics Consensus: Sylvester Stallone knows how to stage action sequences, but the movie's uneven pacing and excessive violence (even for the franchise) is more nauseating than entertaining. Resident Evil 4 remake sees the return of multiple fan favorite characters, but the best NPC of the series doesn’t receive an appearance. Resident Evil has plenty of memorable NPCs, but one, in particular, lacks a presence in the majority of games from the series, including the recently released Resident Evil 4 remake. It doesn't take long for characters to make a lasting impression in a game, but despite this character having one of the most iconic lines in the entire Resident Evil series, he rarely makes appearances. However, this seems to follow a pattern in Resident Evil with NPCs appearing in a game, then rarely receiving a mention in future titles. The original Resident Evil introduced players to Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, and Albert Wesker, a trio of characters that would continue to appear in subsequent games in main and supporting roles. Then, Resident Evil 2 introduced players to more iconic main characters like Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, both of whom would also appear as playable characters in future titles. And yet, there are plenty of NPCs who show up once or twice in a game to help out the main characters, only to receive minimal recognition in the future. This is the case for even the best NPC in Resident Evil. Barry Burton Became The Best NPC With His Debut In The First Resident Evil The original Resident Evil has classic gameplay and tank controls, but it also features moments and characters that would become iconic to the franchise as a whole, and an NPC who almost rivals the main cast in fame. Barry Burton quickly secured his place as Resident Evil's best NPC with quippy one-liners and a well-developed backstory. Those who play as Jill in the original Resident Evil also get to see Barry more often throughout the game, and they get to hear a few of the most iconic lines in the series such as "That was too close! You were almost a Jill Sandwich!" and "And Jill, here's a lock pick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you." Barry's Tragic Motives In Resident Evil Despite helping Jill avoid death in Resident Evil, Barry also pulls his gun on her at Wesker's command even though he isn't an antagonist. Instead, the problem lies in the fact that Barry loves his family and would do anything for them, even if that means turning on his comrades, because Wesker is threatening him using his family. This sets up a core element of Barry's character that remains unchanged years later in Resident Evil Revelations 2. After learning that Wesker lied and the threat against Barry's family was simply meant to make him useful as a tool, Barry turns on Wesker to knock him out and continues to help Jill survive the mansion and its T-Virus-infected residents. Overall, Barry is a supporting character in Resident Evil, showing up primarily in cutscenes scattered throughout Jill's side of the game. After his initial appearance, he's limited to mentions and Easter Eggs in subsequent mainline Resident Evil games and remakes. Barry Returns In Resident Evil Revelations 2 After becoming the best NPC, Barry doesn't have a significant presence in a Resident Evil game until Resident Evil Revelations 2, where he returns as a playable character in the search for his missing daughter, Moira. Between these appearances, Barry had retired for a period,, which would be understandable given the ordeals he faced in Raccoon City and the Arklay Mountains. RE Revelations 2 isn't his first time rejoining the fight against bioterrorism, and this means that he could have been given more appearances in the mainline games, especially with the remakes making changes to the original stories. Barry Could Have Been Included In Resident Evil 4's Remake Leon and Barry have worked together, but players may not have seen this partnership because it's found in a spin-of...

The document concludes that Boss died by suicide, which was previously revealed in a coroner’s report obtained by various celebrity gossip outlets. Perhaps best known for his years spent as the house DJ on The Ellen Degeneres Show, Boss was just 40 years old at the time. Stephen Boss attends the world premiere of Disney-Pixar’s ‘Finding Dory’ at the El Capitan Theatre on June 8, 2016 in Hollywood, California. (Getty) The LA County medical examiners previously stated that Boss died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to a detailed TMZ report in December, Allison Holker called the authorities after her husband went missing. Shortly after Holker made contact with police, a 911 call was made that indicated Boss’ body had been found in a motel less than an hour from his home. “I’m heartbroken. tWitch was pure love and light. He was my family, and I loved him with all my heart,” Ellen Degeneres tweeted after she learned of the awful news. “I will miss him. Please send your love and support to Allison and his beautiful children – Weslie, Maddox, and Zaia.” Allison Holker and Stephen “tWitch” Boss attend the pre-party for Illumination and Universal Pictures’ “Minions: The Rise of Gru” Los Angeles premiere on June 25, 2022 in Hollywood, California. (Getty) Holker also issued the following statement in the aftermath of her spouse’s death. “Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends and community above all else and leading with love and light was everything to him,” the 35-year old said at the time. “He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans.” Allison Holker shared this selfie in the wake of her husband’s suicide. May he rest in peace. (Instagram) Boss eventually was named co-executive producer and frequent guest host of The Ellen DeGeneres Show before the talk show wrapped up in 2022. Some of his other TV and movie appearances included Magic Mike XXL, Modern Family and Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings, which he hosted with Holker. Host and moderator David Sacks, who is a Republican donor and friend of Elon’s, told the listeners, “You broke the internet,” while Elon said, “The servers are straining somewhat.” Once the site kept having difficulties, it didn’t take long for Twitter users to share their mocking tweets. Today I learned that Ron DeSantis was supposed to personally go stress test Twitter’s servers.
— RBe (@RBPundit) May 24, 2023 “Failure to launch,” some users wrote along with photos of rockets, while another wrote, “He just started his campaign and already it’s failed.” Others included manipulated GIFs of Donald Trump, who is also running once again for the Republican presidential seat, laughing and pointing at a computer screen. “Even Trump thinks it’s funny,” one user wrote along with it. “Today I learned that Ron DeSantis was supposed to personally go stress test Twitter’s servers,” another wrote.
Just hours before the Twitter delay for DeSantis’ campaign, the new presidential nominee filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission declaring his candidacy. He also released an announcement video on his own Twitter page. In the caption, he said the same thing he said on Twitter Spaces, which is that he was running for president “to lead our Great American Comeback.” DeSantis will be going up against many candidates for the Republican presidential spot. In addition to Trump, some of them include talk radio host Larry Elder, former U.N. Ambassador and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, and former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson . Matt Roloff has offered followed a note of assurance, and issued to them a frightening warning. On Monday, the Little People, Big World patriarch shared a photo of himself in a hospital bed, causing quite the consternation across the Internet because he hadn’t given any previous indication of healthy problems. “Last week was a bit rough. …went in for what l thought was routine upper endoscopy to check out my esophagus …” wrote Matt to open a caption to the following image. He then explained, in vague detail, what happened next. Matt Roloff is smiling through the pain. He was hospitalized in May of 2023. (Instagram) “When things don’t go as planned and the Doc tells Caryn “we had some complications”. turns out i have some unexpected twists n turns leading down to the stomach,” Roloff continued, referencing his fiancee, Caryn Chandler. “good news is … i didn’t need the computer chip and monitor installed ! scary news is more work to be done. “worst news is i had to take a few days off working and lay low. “Back in action today!” Looking happy, you two! Caryn Chandler and Matt Roloff are so excited to get married. (Instagram) Due to his dwarfism, Matt went through 15 surgeries as a child. “As they say, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,” Matt began as the guest on a podcast in 2018. “I had a rough childhood. Not from a family perspective but just from orthopedic surgery, spending long periods of time — sometimes months — in a hospital with very limited access to your parents. “It was just the way they did it back in those days and going through some very painful operations. ‘So I do think all of that sort of built up a muscle of resiliency and gave me a sense of can-do and tenacity.” Matt Roloff is hard at work on his farm in this close up of the Little People, Big World star. (Instagram) In general, being born with achondroplasia does not mean that one has a shorter life span or that one necessarily must undergo serious medical challenges. But the condition does present its own set of obstacles. Matt, for example, opened up here about his scary incident just three months after his son Zach Roloff underwent an emergency shunt surgery. In February, Tori Roloff took to her Instagram Stories to ask for prayers as her husband prepared for surgery. (Instagram) “We discovered Zach’s shunt is in need of repair and will have surgery in the morning,” Tori explained at the time. The mother of three gave an update about how Zach was doing two days later. “Not exactly how we saw our week going…Zachary had emergency shunt revision this morning. It’s been a scary 72 hours but he is doing well and recovering!! “Thank you so much to everyone for the prayers that you have covered us in. We feel them! “We are so incredibly blessed by our neurosurgeon team and their attentiveness to Zach’s needs! “Thank you to our friends and family who have all reached out asking to help. We feel so loved and supported by you.”

We didn’t have to talk on the phone, we really weren’t phone buddies. Then we would go back to Fleetwood Mac, and we would walk in and it would be like, ‘Little sister, how are you?’ It was like never a minute had passed, never an argument in our entire 47 years.” “So, when it was the two of us, the two of us were on our own, kids, we always were. And now, I’m having to learn to be on my own, kid, by myself. So, you help me to do that. Thank you,” she concluded. Christine McVie died in Nov. (Larry Marano/Shutterstock) Stevie’s heartbreaking comments come 53 years after Christine joined her, Mick Fleetwood, and her ex-husband John McVie, in Fleetwood Mac. After the musician’s passing, Stevie shared the lyrics from the Haim song “Hallelujah” along with a photo of her and her late friend and a statement. “See you on the other side, my love,” she wrote. “My best friend in the whole world since the very first day of 1975.”
Stevie’s latest mention of Christine’s death and Taylor’s song also comes after the talented songwriter performed with the “Shake It Off” crooner at the Grammy Awards in 2010. They sang a medley of the Fleetwood Mac song, “Rhiannon,” and Taylor’s song, “You Belong With Me,” and it made quite the lasting impression. Other attendees included David Zaslav, Rachel Sennott, Sophie Mudd, Hari Nef, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Jennie Kim. Another photo of Lily-Rose at the premiere. (Anthony Harvey/Shutterstock) The Idol is about Lily-Rose’s character, Jocelyn, who is an aspiring pop star, who begins falling in love with The Weeknd’s character, Tedros. Tedros is a self-help guru/modern-day cult leader, and their relationship becomes toxic and complicated, leading to many interesting and memorable storylines.
Lily-Rose and The Weeknd’s appearance at the Cannes premiere comes after the new series made headlines for alleged behind-the-scenes drama. Allegations that claimed The Weeknd was “unhappy” that the show focused more on Lily-Rose, were shot down, both by the “Can’t Feel My Face” singer, who took to Twitter to share a cryptic video and message, and HBO. There were also allegations of drama between Amy Seimetz and Sam, who ended up replacing her as the director of the show during the production.
“The creators and producers of The Idol have been working hard to create one of HBO’s most exciting and provocative original programs,” the network said in a statement to People . “The initial approach on the show and production of the early episodes, unfortunately, did not meet HBO standards so we chose to make a change. Throughout the process, the creative team has been committed to creating a safe, collaborative, and mutually respectful working environment, and last year, the team made creative changes they felt were in the best interest of both the production and the cast and crew. We look forward to sharing The Idol with audiences soon.” Lily-Rose also praised Sam in a statement to the outlet. “Sam is, for so many reasons, the best director I have ever worked with,” she said. “Never have I felt more supported or respected in a creative space, my input and opinions more valued. Working with Sam is a true collaboration in every way – it matters to him, more than anything, not only what his actors think about the work, but how we feel performing it. He hires people whose work he esteems and has always created an environment in which I felt seen, heard, and appreciated.”

James Duggar: Has He Been Kicked Out of His Parents’ Home Because of His Reckless …
At this point, several members of the Duggar family have rebelled against their parents’ ultra-strict worldview. But perhaps no one has been so open and entertaining about their defiance as James Duggar. In case you’re unaware, James is the 21-year-old thirteenth child of Jim Bob and Michelle. The Duggars seem like suspicious folk, so the patriarch and matriarch might’ve suspected that baby number thirteen would create problems — and boy, were they right! There he goes! James Duggar is off to London in this photo of the ex-reality star. (Photo Credit: YouTube) Lately, James Duggar has been traveling the world and filming his adventures for his YouTube channel. That might sound innocent enough, but you have to remember who his parents are. James has been eating in pubs, pranking his friends, and generally acting like a normal 21-year-old man. James Duggar is trying to make a name for himself as an influencer. (Photo Credit: YouTube) Naturally, all of these activities are strictly forbidden by his parents, who view anything remotely fun as the work of the devil. James was even forced to change the name of his YouTube channel from the amusing “Duggars Gone Wild” to the boring and innocuous “James Duggar Vlog.” But hey, the important thing is, James has been getting out from under his parents’ roof and seeing the world for himself. James likes pushing the envelope on his YouTube channel. (Photo Credit: YouTube) In fact, he spends so much time bouncing from one location to the next that observers now suspect his folks have given the boot. “Did James get kicked out of the big house or something?” one fan asked on Reddit this week, according to UK tabloid The Sun. “He’s been on a continuous ‘vacation’ since January.” “Maybe Jim Bob is paying him to stay away,” another user suggested. James Duggar is testing his boundaries. (Photo Credit: Instagram) “I feel like Jim and Michelle are letting him be free since he’s the weird one,” a third theorized, adding: “This looks like significant untethering from family rules and regs.” Others suggested (jokingly, we hope) that James might soon face more extreme forms of discipline. “Better be careful, James. Dear old Dad might have to have you knocked off as a way to save the family, and family comes first,” one redditor quipped. Jeremiah Duggar recently taught his brother James how to fly a helicopter. (Photo Credit: YouTube) Still others suggested that James’ newfound freedom might be an indication of the general erosion of Jim Bob’s authority. “I’m suspecting that he has more personal freedom, and Jim Bob is slowly losing control of how many adults he can keep under his wing at all times,” wrote one such user. Whatever the case, James seems to be having the time of his life. James is out on his own and living life on his terms! And we hope that he’ll continue to do so. (Photo Credit: YouTube) We hope he’ll continue to make the most of this freedom while he can. After all, you never know when Jim Bob might suddenly decide to crack down.

Vin Diesel in Fast X (Photo by Universal Pictures) The second big title of the summer season opened this weekend, and the numbers are big for Fast X . Just not on the side you may be thinking. The 10th installment of the Fast and Furious Saga vroomed into theaters with a cast list bigger than any Ocean’s film or 1960s ensemble war film. As domestic grosses go, its opening was in the bottom half of the franchise. Its Thursday numbers were slightly better than F9’s, which feels like a minor victory given that the earlier film was released during the summer of the pandemic vaccine. Ultimately, chapter 10 could not quite get over the ninth film’s opening hump, but it has a far bigger hump to get over if this is not to be the first failure featuring the series’ core cast. King of the Crop: Fast X’s Impressive Cast Doesn’t Translate to an Outsized Fast Franchise Opening Fast X’s $67.5 million opening is better than all but 42 movies to ever open in May. Ratio that down to six of the movies in the franchise opening stronger – two of them just over $70 million, but still. The return of Vin Diesel to the series in 2009 elevated its Tokyo Drift last legs (still the only film in the series to return a loss) up to its highest opening to date with $70.9 million. Dwayne Johnson’s entry brought it up to $86.1 million. Many still believe Fast Five to be the creative peak of the franchise and that brought No. 6 up to a $97.3 million opening. Then the tragic loss of Paul Walker saw Furious 7 rise to $147.1 million, its all-time financial peak. Since then, it has been a steady fall from $98.7 million for The Fate of the Furious, a $60 million for the presentation of Hobbs Shaw and then $70 million for F9. From the sixth film on though, the international totals have ranged from $550 million up to $1.16 billion. Just international. And it is there that Universal is now counting on to keep No. 10 afloat.
Remember all the hullabaloo when it came to the pre-release budget talks of Waterworld or any James Cameron film from The Abyss on becoming the most expensive film ever made at the time and how they were doomed to failure? Yet where are the headlines that Fast X came into this weekend with a reported production budget of $340 million? Avatar: The Way of Water came in somewhere around $400 million. Avengers: Endgame settled with $356 million. Fast X is next on that list. Those first two titles had no problem clearing a profit as they grossed well over $2 billion globally. But then ask No Time To Die and Justice League about their $300 million budgets and how $774.1 million and $657.9 million left some red ink on the books.
The average final gross of films opening in May between $65 million–$80 million is $233 million. Only two of those films (The Day After Tomorrow and X-Men: Apocalypse) had the kind of drops that the Fast Saga is known for in its second weekend. The smallest drop since the original’s 50 percent has been Hobbs Shaw’s 57.9 percent. The rest ranged from Tokyo Drift’s 59.1 percent to F9’s 67.2 percent. The latter had some pandemic summer implications, but part six’s 63.9 percent is nothing to get excited about either. The series has also not posted a final multiple of three (times its opening weekend) since the 2001 original (3.60). Second best was Hobbs Shaw (2.89), the third was Tokyo Drift (2.60), and fourth was 2 Fast 2 Furious (2.51). Sure, it is just a coincidence that those were Vin Diesel–free. Bottom line is unless Fast X has the kind of support that the new Guardians film has, it is very unlikely that it will hit $200 million in North America. That leaves about $800 million for the overseas market to make up for Universal on this one if it is expected to sell the theatrical release as a success. As of this weekend, it has added another $251 million overseas for a gl...
