Free will or predeterminism? This question is one of the main questions I’ve been asked over my forty years as an astrologer. I don’t see it as either free will or predetermination. Astrology of the soul is a lifestyle. I don’t just teach students at The College of Visionaries and Wizards how to read astrology birth charts from the soul, but how to live from the soul. You can’t just dip into spirituality, metaphysics, and astrology every so often unless you’re living it and actually becoming that art. Living from the soul means taking everything that happens as an invitation to awaken. Life itself is an invitation to awaken. The birth chart is filled with near-infinite information, many, many layers. If you’re going to go down to the deepest layer, you have to learn how to live that way. A soul-level marriage, job, friendship – it’s all a state of being. It’s not a tricky little clever technique.

What distinguishes my astrology practice from everyone else’s? My astrology aims at the soul, which is why I call it “Soul Level Astrology.” I knew I needed to give people new stories. And they needed to be stories of the soul. Other astrology practices get caught on the surface of the signs. They’re looking at the appearance of life rather than getting down in. Astrology, when used as high art, is the best method I know of for getting to the soul of human beings and helping them grow. Unfortunately, most astrology falls into clichés and is not being used as high art. One of the key things that you need to do to understand astrology signs and transform the version of astrology that’s flat and clichéd into a high art, is to see the signs as journeys. They’re not fixed states that you’re supposed to already have but rather a journey toward what your soul signed up to learn. What journey are you on?

Each life is an art no less mysterious or demanding than painting or sculpting. The art of life is what you get to discover throughout the whole quest of your life by digging down into the soul and discovering what you’re made of. It’s the funny way you do things, the strange way you think of things. That’s your art. Once you stop holding your so-called flaws and faults against yourself, the places where you don’t fit in a dying system, you begin to send powerful messages down into your creative forces. You deserve to find your own unique creativity. The things that make you unique are not your problem. They are your art.

The Sufis have an idea called The True Human Being. As if the version we have is the prototype of a more advanced version who knows that we’re all going to make it to the bright future, or none of us will. As we awaken to realize that we came here for purposes of love, we begin to assist the great changes of our time. This allows the emergence of The True Human Being.

Pluto is reentering Aquarius in March. The last time Pluto was in Aquarius was during the Haitian Revolution, French Revolution, and American Revolution in the 18th century. It is calling for a new revolution, but I don’t think the revolution of our time is going to be primarily political. Instead, I think this one is primarily an inner revolution, and secondarily an external revolution. The internal revolution comes with the questions: Who are you? Who are you going to be? What world are you going to create? The external revolution comes from the choice to live by love or fear. Which will you choose? Most people don’t acknowledge the gift of depression and complicate the already low state with self-judgment. The gift of depression is that it’s a sign that you’ve gotten hyperextended in the world. You’ve left yourself behind, getting caught up in external energies that may not serve the growth of your soul. Depression helps you pull yourself in from the hyperextension in order to commune with creative forces inside. Instead of judging depression, consider it the beginning of a whole new regeneration. You have to go down far enough to come up.

Most people think karma is payback for things they’ve done wrong, or a reward for things done right. Neither is the main purpose of karma. The main purpose of karma is to wake you up in the places where you have been the most asleep and invite you to become present in the places where you’ve been the most absent. The catch is you can’t wake up or gain presence until an old situation reoccurs, revealing the dysfunctional pattern. When it reoccurs it’s easy to fall asleep at the wheel again. Instead, pause and recognize that this is an invitation. What karmic places are you being invited to explore?

Are you growing beyond obsolete levels of consciousness? Do you become frustrated with others who are staying in these old stages? Karma is to the soul what gravity is to the body. It brings us down into reincarnation. Why do we reincarnate? Your soul comes back from Spirit in order to manifest the tremendous love packed into you. Wake up to the message in the darkness. The gift in the shadow. Despite whatever judgment you’re holding against yourself, or the human race, or God, there’s a deep powerful reason why your soul came back. It’s not punishment and it’s not to become perfect. People misunderstand karma because they misunderstand the purpose of reincarnation. Most views of reincarnation operate under the idea that we keep coming back to perfect ourselves so that we no longer have to come back. This makes no sense. Why would we come back if the whole point is not to be here? We’d just stay out in the first place. What if we reincarnated for the opposite reason? There’s a way of being here in the physical plane where you gain full presence and consciousness on the many dimensions that intersect with the physical. When you become that aligned, various forces join with you and become your allies in this great dance of awakening. Humanity has forgotten who we are and what we are made of. Every time we remember that we’re made of, love, we release the need to keep getting caught in the undertow of our karma. Karma is the universe's invitation to show up and arrive.
