Looking at some jasper varieties that have gone through the rock tumbling process. There is red oolitic jasper, Mary Ellen jasper, iron banded jasper. This is not a how to video, just showing some stones that have been tumbled. All these jasper varieties are from Minnesota and found by me. I will be the first to admit I don't think I am very good at tumbling rocks but maybe with some helpful tips, I can get better. This lapidary adventure is filled with agates and crystal vugs inside GALAXY STONE! We cut up a bunch of amygdaloidal basalt & rhyolite to see what these host rocks are hiding. Many of them show breathtaking details, shown at the end of the video in a macro slideshow, but one of them, completed a bucket list item, which was to find a beautiful agate inside host rock. We would NEVER have found this Lake Superior agate unless we cut it open. I had so much fun cutting open and slicing these chunks of galaxy stone with my lapidary saw, I hope you had fun too! In this video, I show you how to clean agates with citric acid! Getting rid of river scum and river burn on your stones has never been easier! To be honest, I was shocked out how much better my agates looked afterwards, this process will now be my exclusive means of cleaning my Lake Superior agates. Taking three days to clean river burned agates is a bit excessive, you could probably get away with a two days. Step by step: 1. Poor HOT water over the rocks 2. For every cup of water, add 1 tablespoon of citric acid. 3. Mix citric acid, water, and rocks around 4. Let sit for no more than 3 days. Every 24 hous, mix the batch around and rotate rocks. 5. After 3rd day, poor citric acid in a safe place and rinse off rocks. 6. Put back in HOT water with baking soda, mix together. (This helps neutralize the acid) 7. Clean off again, I used soap and water, and enjoy :) Please let me know if there is any additional steps you can think of so we can make this the best way to clean off your dirty stones! Join along as we power up the lapidary saw for some slabbing and slicing of some beautiful and rare jasper! This jasper variety is called Goldfield Bullseye jasper and is from Nevada. It's rare because this chunk was found at a pay to dig site back in the day and now that site is private property. It was an absolute blast exposing the beautiful designs that are hiding inside this stone, even though the lapidary adventure was broken up into two days. Finding a big haul of different jasper varieties on this underwater rockhounding adventure has never been so fun! Thanks to Scoopy cam, we are able to find red jasper, oolitic jasper, layered jasper, and Mary Ellen jasper (stromatolite). On this rockhounding adventure we found some unique and glowing agates (state gemstone of MN) and one of those gems was an amethyst water level agate! There is some drama on this lapidary adventure, this lake superior agate is pretty broken up, and even those we did a good job exposing those beautiful bands, it still has some pretty bad fractures... so that's where you amazing folks come in!
