60 Second Riga - All you need to know before you go in 2023 #riga #touristdestination #latvia
In this video I'll show you what I saw when I visited Riga in Feb 2023.
Riga is the capital and largest city of Latvia, located on the Gulf of Riga on the Baltic Sea. With a population of around 640,000 people, it is the cultural, economic, and political center of Latvia, as well as an important hub for the entire Baltic region. The city is known for its beautiful architecture, rich history, and vibrant culture.
Riga's history dates back to the 12th century, when it was founded as a trading hub by German merchants. Throughout the centuries, the city has been ruled by a variety of powers, including the Livonian Order, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Sweden, and the Russian Empire. This diverse cultural heritage is reflected in Riga's architecture, which features a mix of Gothic, Baroque, Art Nouveau, and Soviet-era buildings.
One of the most famous landmarks in Riga is the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site that is home to many of the city's most iconic buildings. The Old Town is situated on the eastern bank of the Daugava River, and is surrounded by a ring of parks and modern suburbs. Visitors to the Old Town can explore narrow cobblestone streets, ancient churches, and colorful merchant houses, as well as numerous museums, galleries, and restaurants.
Another popular attraction in Riga is the Central Market, which is one of the largest and most vibrant markets in Europe. The market is located in five huge pavilions that were originally built as Zeppelin hangars during World War I. Today, the market sells a wide variety of fresh produce, meat, fish, dairy products, and handicrafts, and is a great place to experience the local culture.
Riga is also known for its rich cultural scene, which includes numerous theaters, concert halls, and museums. The Latvian National Opera, located in the heart of the city, is one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the country, and is famous for its world-class productions of classical music and ballet.
Overall, Riga is a fascinating and vibrant city with a rich history and culture. Whether you are interested in architecture, history, or simply experiencing the local way of life, Riga is definitely worth a visit.

Donibristle Chapel, Dalgety Bay - Resting place of Earls of Moray | Fife, Scotland 2023
Donibristle Chapel, also known as the Mortuary Chapel of Earls of Moray, was an Episcopalian place of worship and a mortuary chapel for the residents of Donibristle House, the Moray family.
The titleEarl of Moraywas originally held by the rulers of theProvince of Moray, which existed from the 10th century with varying degrees of independence from theKingdom of Albato the south. Until 1130 the status of Moray's rulers was ambiguous and they were described in some sources as "mormaers", in others as "Kings of Moray", and in others as "Kings of Alba".
The position was suppressed byDavid 1st of Scotlandsome time after his defeat ofÓengus of Morayat theBattle of Stracathroin 1130, but was recreated as afeudalearldom byRobert the Bruce, and in 1312, granted toThomas Randolph, 1st Earl of Moray, seen here wearing the full face helmet.
The title has subsequently been created several times in thePeerage of Scotland. It has been held byClan Stewartsince the 16th century, whenJames Stewart, illegitimate son ofJames 5th, was granted the title.
The chapel was designed by architect Alexander McGill who also designed near by Donibristle House, other Scottish chapels, and the impressive Mount Stuart Houseon theIsle of Bute. You can find Alexander’s name inscribed on the interior staircase inside the Donibristle Chapel.
Completed in 1731, it is said that sealed under the floor, are 17 coffins, 9 of which are Earls of Moray. The first laid to rest is, Charles, the 6th Earl, who died in 1735, and the last, George Phillip, the 14th Earl, who died in 1895.
On the front of the building can be seen a stone plaque flanked by decorative scrolls and topped by a circle containing half of the Moray and half of the Campbell coat of arms, signifying the union between Charles Stuart and Lady Anne Campbell. Below that can be seen a Latin inscription, which has been translated.
"This temple. consecrated to the Founder of Time and Eternity, dedicated to the practice of the most holy religion. For their heirs a spur to that true nobility, which is grounded in virtue, for themselves and their descendants, a haven where, with furled sails, they may find rest in the place where they would be, Charles and Anne, Earl and Countess of Moray, caused to be built and decorated in 1731 of the Christian era and the 5th year of the reign of George 2nd.”
Donibristle Chapel achieved Category A listed building status in 1972. It is located close to Dalgety Bay in Fife and is clearly signposted on the Fife Coastal Path, so is easy to find and an interesting site to visit.

SOUTHBOUND across The Queensferry Crossing - River Forth, near Edinburgh Scotland
See what it's like to drive South across the Queensferry Crossing.
Filmed on 5th Feb 2023.
The Queensferry Crossing, also known as the Forth Replacement Crossing, is a cable-stayed bridge located in Scotland that spans the Firth of Forth, connecting the towns of North Queensferry and South Queensferry. It officially opened to the public on August 30, 2017 and has since become a landmark and major transportation route in the region.
The bridge was built as a replacement for the Forth Road Bridge, which was constructed in the 1960s and was showing signs of wear and tear. The new bridge was designed to be more resilient, with a longer lifespan and increased capacity to handle traffic. It was also built to withstand the strong winds and tidal currents of the Firth of Forth, making it a safer and more reliable transportation route for drivers.
The Queensferry Crossing is a stunning piece of engineering, with its three towers rising 210 meters (689 feet) above the water and its main span of 1.7 km (1.06 miles) making it the longest three-tower, cable-stayed bridge in the world. The bridge's design and construction were a collaboration between engineers, architects, and construction firms from around the world, and it is widely regarded as one of the most impressive feats of modern engineering.
The bridge has had a positive impact on the local economy, with an increase in tourism and the creation of new jobs. It also provides a faster and more efficient route for drivers, reducing travel time and improving transportation links between the towns on either side of the Firth of Forth.
In conclusion, the Queensferry Crossing is a remarkable bridge that has improved transportation and had a positive impact on the local economy. Its stunning design and impressive engineering make it a landmark that is sure to be admired for generations to come.

60 Second Lisbon - All you need to know before you go in 2023 #lisbon #touristdestination #portugal
In this video I'll show you what I saw when I visited Lisbon in Jan 2023.
Lisbon is the capital and largest city of Portugal, located on the west coast of the country along the Atlantic Ocean. With its history dating back to the Roman Empire, Lisbon is a city that is rich in culture, architecture and art. It is a city that has undergone a lot of transformation and renovation in recent years, making it a popular tourist destination for visitors from around the world.
One of the main attractions in Lisbon is its historic centre, which is filled with narrow cobblestone streets, brightly coloured buildings, and old-world charm. The Baixa neighbourhood is a great place to start your exploration of the city, with its historic buildings, charming squares, and vibrant street life. The famous Elevador de Santa Justa, a historic elevator that offers stunning views of the city.
Lisbon is also known for its museums and galleries, many of which showcase the country’s rich artistic heritage. The National Museum of Ancient Art is a must-see, displaying works from Portugal’s Golden Age, including paintings, sculptures, and ceramics. Another popular museum is the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, which houses a vast collection of European, Asian, and African art, as well as decorative arts, coins, and manuscripts.
Food is an important part of Lisbon's culture, and the city is famous for its seafood dishes, including grilled sardines, salt cod, and octopus. Visitors should also try the famous pastry, Pastéis de Belém, a sweet, creamy pastry that originated in the city. Lisbon also has a vibrant nightlife scene, with many bars and nightclubs staying open until the early hours of the morning.
Lisbon is also an ideal starting point for exploring the rest of Portugal. What it's REALLY like to travel on Lisbon's Famous E28 Tram through the city centre 2023
Join me as we take a journey through the streets of Lisbon, one of Europe's most historic and beautiful cities. Experience the sights, sounds, and culture of this vibrant city from the unique perspective of the E28 tram. This film is a celebration of Lisbon's public transportation and the people who use it. So sit back, relax and enjoy the ride as we take you on a tour of Lisbon like never before.
See the city in style in these old vintage trams! Lisbon is famous for its little yellow tram cars winding their way through narrow streets.
In this video you'll see a number of these trams, and the red tourist tour trams too. You'll also see a little footage of what it's like on board as it rattles along the tight twisty streets that Lisbon is famous for.
For tickets, the best way I found was to buy a 24hr ticket at any Metro station (6.50 Euro at time of my visit in Jan 2023) as this allows unlimited travel on all buses and trams within Lisbon, including the iconic E28 route. This allows you to hop on and off as you wish.
