Building underground bunker EP019 - Getting ready for last part of digging
With the well drilling and water running done, it is time to move forward with the cellar building. At this part, I will be partially preparing for a concrete slab pour and also moving the soil lift to make space for additional soil digging at the staircase area.

That was quicker then expected - first Tit pair visit to our new bird house
That was really quick.
I just hang the bird house yesterday, and already today I had first visitors.
Hopefully they will like the house and come back.

Building a root cellar EP018 - Drilling well part 4
Final part of this sub-series.
After details show in last part, I started to struggle drilling the well deeper.
I've tried various ways to help pushing the pipes deeper, but despite trying for many days, and almost burning down my house, it didn't move much.
In the end, I decided to quit and fix the well at the depth I was.

Building a root cellar EP017 - Drilling well part 3
I need to go deeper. Having pushed the DN180 pipe 4m down in last video, I continue adding another 2m long segment.
I loose my plunger in the pipe again, but manage to recover it.
After initial difficulties, I manage to push this additional segment down.

Lumber from Czech for cellar build
One short jump forward, here we are in Czech republic at my brother's, looking at lumber he cut for us.
The lumber will be used in process of building the cellar arches, as a forms that will support the bricks.
One part of the lumber is for the following project - building a roof over our terrace.

Building a root cellar EP016 - Drilling well Part 2
With the DN200 pipe in place, I will start the main drilling and pushing DN180 as deep as possible. This pipe will serve only as a protection for the main well pipe.
In this video, I'm trying to insert the first 4 meters of the pipe.

Building a root cellar EP015 - Drilling well Part 1
With this video, I'm starting short sub-series to the main Building a root cellar series, and will show you, how I drilled a well inside of the recently dug-up hole for cellar.
Water is important for life, and any garden would not survive without it.
Although catching a rain water was the first think we have considered, we were also considering getting well drilled.
The area, where we live have very high ground water, as you can see at the beginning of this video.
Since we already dug up 3.5m of the top soil, we considered it worth the try and drill a well inside of the cellar.
At this part, I'm installing DN200 pipe 2m long, that will serve as a protection for the consequent smaller pipes.

Building a root cellar EP014 - Marking cellar layout
With most of the sand removed, it is time to mark borders for the cellar.
Main body shall be parallel with the house, and entrance shall be as much as possible perpendicular to them.
Inside of the hole, I need to establish height levels, from which I will reference height for the plate slab.
On the terrace, I need to build references, which will mark areas for staircase walls and cellar entrance platform.

Building a root cellar EP013 - Last piece of retaining wall
This is important moment in the root cellar build project. I dug up most of the soil (only staircase material missing to be done), and closing retaining wall all around means I do not have to be much concerned about soil collapsing on me anymore.
At this stage, it was about one year since I started this project, and I'm really happy about the progress.

Building a root cellar EP012 Elevator maintenance
This is hand made elevator that I use for lifting soil and sand from the cellar hole. As wood moves with seasons, time to time it is necessary to tighten all the screws that hold this elevator together.
From bottom, the elevator is 6m tall, so it is quite scary standing on the top.

Building a root cellar EP011 All that sand needs to go
It is time to move on with digging. There's still loads of sand to be removed, so let's get to it and have it done. All being only manual work, just using my shovel, it takes me several days to complete this part of my project.

Building a root cellar EP007 Preparation for retaining wall build
In this part, I'm showing steps of preparation for retaining wall build.
Each part of retaining wall has few rebars in, that will hopefully help with stability of the wall.
Also every meter or so, I drill a hole into the sand wall, in which I insert one part of the rebar and consequently fill up with concrete. This shall also help with the wall stability.
