Lullaby | Live Performance
ADMG
The Lullaby paints a child’s picture of bedtime. The main theme introduces itself at a pacing tempo before settling at a relaxed pace, as would be the eager excitement of a child before a bedtime story. Stories unwind, past memories are recalled, prayers are said,… Towards the end, the continuous duet-like harmony express a mother’s and father’s love and care, which gently lay the child to peaceful sleep for the night.
I wrote this Lullaby for my newborn cousin who was born the same week, and had the wonderful opportunity to premiere with our entire extended family later that year. I hope he enjoyed. 💗

This work was particularly inspired by pieces from Johannes Brahms, Alma Deutscher, Kylie (Locke), and Hudson Holland. Chopin also gave left-hand ideas. Some passages were also based off of some ideas from a future symphony work in progress. It will be a very long while before I will have more word of progress with that project though. ;)
On the related compositional aspect, I realized that it may take me a while to catchup with publishing all my scores worth sharing from 2020 and onwards; so I carefully developed this piano solo as a debut work in the meantime. I also wanted to try out recording a live piano for the first time with fairly good audio equipment for a near-professional sound. I’m also performing live in the video, so let me know what you think below about this format!
I would say that the challenging areas with this project were revising the score for accuracy to how I would personally perform the piece, setting up the mics for the best sound, the mastering process, and the video edit. As for performance, performing on a keyboard is entirely different from performing on a live piano. I went through a few recording sessions to have a good take (despite a week's worth of practicing on the keyboard and months in between sessions), though I'm fairly satisfied with this particular take. Even then, it took considerable time with adjusting the audio to satisfaction.
Special thanks to Elijah Hemingway who helped to transcribe an early recording into notation.
I have my other cousin to thank for the keyboard, which I used to develop the Lullaby before sending the midi visualizer recording.
Also special thanks to the local pastor and admin assistant for generously allowing use of the piano and microphones to record this piece.

Nanay's Home
A.M.D.G.
Written and composed in 2012. Transcribed 2022.
Live audio recorded on September 18, 2022.
I remember the time when I was very young, I would miss my mother very much when she left home every weekday for work in the morning. Eventually, times changed and she stayed home educating and homeschooling me as well as my other siblings. I wrote and dedicated this piece, as well as the rather short and child-like melody to her to remind me of how she always cared for me and my family. I don't have the full original lyrics, neither an early recording of the melody; but I still remember the first 2 sentences and the melody which goes along with it.
Hopefully someday, I will find the full original lyrics...
Note: "Nanay" from Tagalog translates to "mother" in English.
