Anonymous, Weak Coward Writes Hate Mail (Episode 037)
I got a piece of hate mail recently in the form of a comment on the YouTube channel for The Martialist and thought it would make for good content. It turns out that some people just get really mad when you tell them they're wrong.

Mala for Self Defense?
Mala beads for self-defense? This trend, arguably pioneered and popularized by Guillermo del Sin on Facebook, begs the question of whether you can use properly constructed beads with heavy weights as self-defense tools. The answer is yes; there are a few methods you could choose. Phil Elmore explores and explains these in this video.

Comment Response: Picking on Icy Mike for being Short
I figured I would respond to a comment that was posted on Episode 36 of "The Martial Arts Podcast with Phil Elmore."

There's a lot of training you can do at home, without ever firing a live round, when it comes to tactical firearms. Phil Elmore offers some suggestions on which gear to buy to accomplish that in this video.

Why "Icy Mike" (Hard2Hurt) Is Always Wrong (Episode 036)
In this painful episode of The Martial Arts Podcast with Phil Elmore, Phil goes over the notes he made while forcing himself to watch "Icy Mike" Pesesko's ill-informed self-defense videos. Mixed martial arts is not self-defense training, never has been self-defense training, and never will be self-defense training... something that MMA exponents, including the diminutive Mr. Pesesko, will never understand.
People who hate the tactical and EDC communities shouldn't be your source for information on these communities.

Kerambit Basics #kerambit #karambit
A friend recently bought a kerambit and wanted to know the basics of how to use it, so here's what I put together.
Regarding extending the kerambit, I don't think this technique gets beginners anything. That doesn't mean a more advanced user might not be able to make use of the technique.

"Carrying THAT will get you killed!" More often than not, this is something stupid people say, because they don't understand self-defense or force-multipliers... and they don't want to. Phil Elmore dives into the topic of tactical pens, mouseguns, and other "talismans" in self-defense in this episode of The Martial Arts Podcast with Phil Elmore.

Are You A Blackbelt? Do you NEED to be? (Episode 030)
I got my yellow belt in Chidokwan Karate ay back in 1993, a blue belt in Wing Chun Kung Fu in 2004, a yellow belt in Liu Seong Gung Fu (the Kuntao/Silat art of Willem Reeders) in 2006. After that I got green and gray sashes in Liu Seong in 2007 and 2008, a black belt in 2009, and an instructor rank (orange) in 2011. All told it took me about 7 years of training to get to instructor level, and now I have almost three decades in the martial arts. But what does it all mean? In this episode of The Martial Arts Podcast with Phil Elmore, I explore what rank means, if anything, and how you should (and shouldn't) approach the topic as a student of self-defense.

Are Disposable Knives a TRAP? (Episode 029)
Ever since Shawn's Tactical Specialty introduced their "disposable drawpoint package" (and before that), the market has been very aware of "disposable" knives. Fruit knives, the Pioneer Woman knife... these are considered "disposable" as well, or they started out that way. But are you, a member of the "tactical knife community," setting yourself up for trouble by carrying such a knife? Phil Elmore looks at this issue in the latest episode of The Martial Arts Podcast with Phil Elmore.
