Peacock - Animals, Insects, Reptiles & Amphibians mentioned in Nahjul Balagha (Peak of Eloquence)
Peacock - Animals, Insects, Reptiles & Amphibians mentioned in Nahjul Balagha (Peak of Eloquence) by Imam Ali Ibn Abu Talib
Describing the Wonderful Creation of the Peacock, the Wonderful Creation of Birds
Allah has provided wonderful creations including the living, the lifeless, the stationary and the moving. He has established such clear proofs for His delicate creative power and great might that minds bend down to Him in acknowledgment thereof and in submission to Him and arguments about His oneness strike our ears. He has created birds of various shapes which live in the burrows of the earth, in the openings of high passes and on mountain peaks.
They have different kinds of wings and various characteristics. They are controlled by the rein of (Allah’s) authority. They flutter with their wings in the expanse of the vast firmament and the open atmosphere. He brought them into existence from non -existence in strange external shapes and composed them with joints and bones covered with flesh. He prevented some of them from flying easily in the sky because of their heavy bodies and allowed them to use their wings only close to the ground. He has set them in different colors by His delicate might and exquisite creative power.
Among them are those which are tinted with one hue and there is no other hue except the one in which they have been dyed. There are others which are tinted with one color and they have a neck ring of a different color than that with which they are tinted.
About the Peacock
The most amazing among them in its creation is the peacock which Allah has created in the most symmetrical dimensions and arranged its hues in the best arrangement with wings the ends of which are inter-weaved together and with a long tail. When it approaches its female, it spreads out its folded tail and raises it up so as to cast a shade over its head, as if it were the sail of a boat being pulled by the sailor. It feels proud of its colors and sways with its movements. It copulates like the cocks. It leaps (on the female) for cohabitation like lustful energetic men at the time of fighting.
I am telling you all this from observation, unlike he who narrates on the basis of a weak authority. For example, it is the belief of some
569
people that it cohabits with the female by a tear which flows from its eyes. When it stops on the edges of the eyelids, the female swallows it and lays its eggs thereby, not through cohabitation by a male other than by means of this flowing tear. Even if they say this, it will be no more amazing than (what they say about) the mutual feeding of the crows (prior to cohabitation). You will imagine its feathers to be like sticks made of silver and the wonderful circles and sun-shaped feathers growing there to be of pure gold and pieces of green emerald. If you likened them to anything growing on land, you will say that it is a bouquet of flowers collected during every spring. If you likened them to clothes, they will be like printed apparels or amazing variegated clothes of Yemen. If you likened them to ornaments, then they will be like gems of different color with studded silver.
The peacock walks with vanity and pride, throwing open its tail and wings, laughing, admiring the handsomeness of its outfit and the hues of its necklace of gems. But when it casts its glance at its legs, it cries loudly with a voice which indicates its call for help, displaying its true grief because its legs are thin like the legs of Indo -Persian cross -bred cocks. At the end of its shin, there is a thin thorn, and on the crown of its head, there is a bunch of green variegated feathers. Its neck begins in the shape of a goblet and it stretches up to its belly like the hair-dye of Yemen in color or like silk cloth put on a polished mirror which looks as if it has been covered with a black veil. Other than that, on account of its excessive luster and extreme brightness, it appears that a lush green color has been mixed with it. Along the openings of its ears there is a line of shining bright daisy color like the thin end of a pen. Whiteness shines on the black background. There is hardly a hue from which it has not taken a bit and improved it further by regular polish, luster, silken brightness and brilliance. It is, therefore, like scattered blossoms which have not been seasoned by the rains of spring or the summer sun.
It also sheds its plumage and puts off its outfit. They all fall away and grow again. They fall away from the feather stems like the falling of leaves from twigs, then they begin to join together and grow till they return to the state that existed before their falling away. The new hues do not change from the previous ones, nor does any color occur anywhere other than in its own place. If you carefully look at one hair from the hairs of its feather stems, it will look like a red rose, then like emerald green, then like golden yellow.

Then he quoted a verse by al-A’sha and went on to say:
My days are now passed on the camel’s back (in difficulty) while there were days (of ease) when I enjoyed the company of Ja bir’s brother Hayyan.3
It is strange that during his lifetime he wished to be released from the caliphate but he confirmed it for the other one after his death. No doubt these two shared its udders strictly among themselves. This one put the caliphate in a tough enclosure where the utterance was haughty and the touch was rough. Mistakes were in plenty and also the excuses therefore. One in contact with it was like the rider of an unruly camel. If he pulled up its rein the very nostril would be slit, but if he let it loose he w9ould be thrown. Consequently, by Allah, people got involved in recklessness, wickedness, unsteadiness and deviation.
Nevertheless, I remained patient despite a length of period and stiffness of trial, until when he went his way (of death) he put the matter (of Caliphate) in a group4 and regarded me to be one of them. But good Heavens! What had I to do with his “consultation”? Where was any doubt about me with regard to the first of them that I was now considered akin to these ones? But I remained low when they were low and flew high when they flew high. One of them turned against me because of his hatred and the other got inclined the other way due to his in-law relationship and this thing and that thing, till the third man of these people stood up with heaving breasts between his dung and fodder. With him his children of the grand-father (Umayyah) also stood up, swallowing up Allah’s wealth5 like a camel devouring the foliage of spring, till his rope broke down, his actions finished him and his gluttony brought him down prostrate.
At that moment, nothing took me by surprise, but the crowd of people rushing to me. It advanced toward me form every side like the mane of the hyena so much so that Hassan and Hussain were getting crushed and both the ends of my shoulder garment were torn. They collected around me like the herd of sheep and goats. When I took up the reins of government, one party broke away and another turned disobedient while the rest began acting wrongfully as if they had not heard the word of Allah saying:
That abode in the hereafter, We assign if for those who intend not to exult themselves in the earth, nor (to make) mischief (the rein), and the end is (best) for the pious. (Holy Quran 28: 83)
Yes, by Allah, they had heard it and understood it but the world appeared glittering in their eyes and its embellishments seduced them. Behold, by Him who split the grain (to grow) and created living beings, if people had not come to me and supporters had not exhausted the argument and if there had been no pledge of Allah with the learned to the effect that they should no acquiesce in the gluttony of the oppressor and the hunger of the oppressed, I would have cast the rope of Caliphate on its own shoulders and would have given the lst one the same treatment as to the first one. Then you would have seen that in my view this world of yours is not better than the sneezing of a goat.

sermon 164 elephant
The magnificence of the Creator in Great and Small Creations
Glorified is Allah Who has assigned feet to small ants and gnats and also to those above them, the serpents and the elephants. He has made it obligatory upon Himself that no skeleton in which He infuses a spirit will move, but that death is its promised place and destruction its final end.

MALCOLM X DOCUMENTARY: FROM BIRMINGHAM (ALABAMA USA) TO BIRMINGHAM (UK)
Excerpt from The Last Sermon Of Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.)
"All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a White has no superiority over a Black nor a Black has any superiority over a White except by piety and good action.
**
House number 58 is now demolished, it was the house for sale which Malcolm was reading the sign.
**
In the UK, we have an Indian prime minister Rishi Sunak who is also the richest prime minister ever. Rishi is the 2nd non-white Prime minister ever in post with Benjamin Disraeli who was of Italian-Jewish descent. What change did Benjamin bring? By having an Asian Prime Minister, does racism towards Asians disappear? No, no it doesn’t. As brother Malcolm said, “Democracy is hypocrisy”
*
Malcolm X, Remembered as one of the most prominent orators and revolutionaries of the twentieth century. The larger-than-life figure of Malcolm X walking the red-bricked terraces of the small Midlands town of Smethwick seem today almost fantastical. But far from fiction, the now-iconic photograph of Brother Malcolm standing tall on Marshall Street in February 1965 is a real and potent reminder of the international dimensions of the Black freedom struggle, from Birmingham, Alabama, USA to Birmingham, England, UK.
*
Malcolm X said "I was in Birmingham, Alabama, the other day. This will give me a chance to see if Birmingham, England, is any different."
“I am disturbed by reports coloured people are being treated badly. I have heard they are being treated as Jews were under Hitler.”
Even in the 1960s, the policy for Marshall Street appalled people. Malcolm X believed it was only the beginning of something else that, left unchecked, would see Britain start to repeat the horrors that befell Jews in the Holocaust. "I would not wait for the fascist element in Smethwick to erect gas ovens," he said.
*
Marshall Street in Smethwick was especially problematic with residents lobbying the council to buy up empty houses along the street and make them available only to white families.
The Conservative Council agreed to the demands of the racists to stop non-white people from moving in. Black and Asian families were prevented from purchasing or renting properties on Marshall Street and the situation carried on for several years.
*
After looking at Marshall Street – at the far end of the street, a group of white women shouted abuse at him but he did not respond to them – he calmly walked back to where we were standing,
Malcolm wanted to walk on Marshall Street alone. He told us he was disgusted by what he had seen. He said it was worse than some parts of the US.” Malcolm challenged all racism. He was not just interested in African Caribbean people. If that was true, he wouldn’t have come to Smethwick, where the focus was almost all on Asians.
*
The visit was not without incident either. Malcolm was taken to Marshall Street on that cold February day and heckled by the white residents living there who were proud of the fact they did not want to live alongside immigrants. They bluntly informed him that they did not want any more Black people living in Smethwick. According to eyewitnesses, as the white people barracked Malcolm with abuse he was loudly supported by the relatively few Black and Asian people in the area. Malcolm X did not respond to the aggression he faced, he quietly walked down the street in observation.
*
Peter Griffiths, meanwhile, was unable to fulfil his dreams of a British apartheid, being unseated by Labour candidate Andrew Faulds in 1966. His racist vision of UK’s White only streets & Black only streets would have been a model which the rest of The UK would have followed in. That would have pushed back Equal Rights right back and it would have taken a breakthrough Person or Event to tread water. UK apartheid did not materialise & The UK did not follow South African Apartheid which ended in 1994. US Civil Rights broke American segregation in 1968. However present-day Palestinians still live under apartheid which is ironic as The UK initiated this with the Balfour Declaration. The job of liberating Palestine will fall to Imam Mahdi (Peace be on him) along with Prophet Jesus (peace be on him) inshalah.
*
As I leave Marshall Street, Birmingham, I leave behind memories of Malcolm X’s visit. El-Haj Malik El-Shabazz is long gone, but in our ongoing struggle for racial justice, his legacy lives on.
Rest in peace brother Malik, asalam alaikum.
