ND high school rodeo athlete Sidney Weinberger, a freshman at Flasher Public School, comes from a long line of rodeo genetics, starting with her mom, Sonya Weinberger, former barrel racer, and Miss Rodeo ND. Rodeo is a way of life for ND High School rodeo athletes, but they also find success in other areas. Cole Gerhardt is a 4x high school state champion wrestler and all-around cowboy athlete. Faith Heim works on her family cattle business, trains horses, and is a multi-event cowgirl. Ranch-raised cowgirl, Paige Delaney, brings back a national title judging grasslands and competes at ND high school rodeos.
The ProRodeo Sports news recently published an article that read the Command Performance Rodeo put on by the PRCA on Sept. 24, 1983, at Landover, Maryland's Capital Centre. The White House invitation-only rodeo event included special guests President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan, and there were 10,249 government dignitaries, including Ambassadors from 46 foreign countries. The rodeo was designated as a tribute to America's government, and the special performance featured former and present ProRodeo world champions, along with top 1983 contenders in seven events.
Representing North Dakota at this event were Miss Rodeo America 1983 Brenda Lee Bonogofsky Pickett, 4x world champion saddle bronc rider Brad Gjermundson and novelist Louis L'Amour, who received a congressional gold medal from President Reagan. We feature their presence at this event with recently discovered video footage by The North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame and courtesy of the PRCA.
Arguably the greatest cowboy there ever was is Larry Mahan. Unfortunately, he passed away on May 7. In 2017, Larry was the special guest for The NDCHF induction ceremony. We remember that glorious day and pay our respects to him today.

Ranching is a way of life. The courtroom, business, and rodeo are ways of life. All of these careers, including Nici Meyer's most important job, mother, are this 6th generation livestock producer's daily life. With the help of her family: Lynn and Guynelle Meyer (parents) and husband, Shawn Arndorfer-this livestock producer, discusses the ties between education, running a business, and even the rodeo industry to the courtroom floor and the pasture.
The early days of the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame were exciting times. Many minds came together on the same page and created what is now an organization that continues to grow by leaps and bounds. Decisions that needed to be made included establishing the by-laws, the criteria for inductees, and even the location of the new NDCHF, all needed to be discussed. There at the beginning, was founding board member Bob Tibor. His energy level was re-kindled by the thought of doing an interview on Dakota Cowboy. It was soon discovered that Bob has so much information concerning the early days of The NDCHF, but one episode is not enough. Today you will hear about how the NDCHF was established and the meticulousness that went into it from someone who was there. And you'll hear what Bob Tibor is doing now.
Herb was born on his family's farm north of Berthold on September 11, 1904, and grew up farming alongside his dad and brothers. Herb's parents had passed away by the time he was 20. He and his brothers grew the family farm into a business, calling it the Birdsall Farm Company. In time, bringing son-in-law Darrell into the business, Herb developed the Birdsall Farming Company into one of the largest farming and cattle operations in this part of the world. Cattle from the Birdsall ranch were known to weigh over 400 lbs at weaning, something unheard of in their time. In one story, a black bull trespassed in the neighbor's pasture. Herb reassured the upset man that when he sold calves the next fall, he and Darrell would give him as much for his black baldies as he got for his best Hereford steer calves. The handful of baldies brought the most money, and the trespassing bull was forgiven. Herb Birdsall passed away on April 10, 1990, and is our NDCHF Hall of Honorees Inductee of the week.

TAKEAWAYS

- Law school and various working groups have developed this cowgirl to 'think outside the box' when running a ranching business, and it takes the entire family to make ranching possible.
- The passion at the beginning of the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame remains for founding board member Bob Tibor of Hebron.
- Herb Birdsall's commitment to being successful in agriculture, along with a strong work ethic, including still breaking colts at 60 years old and more, contributed to him taking his place in The Hall of Honorees.

Dale Meyers of Minot has been a District 5 trustee of The NDCHF for a few years. His collection of classic cars, motorcycles, artwork, historical artifacts, and more is very impressive. What Dale loves the most are the stories behind each item in his collection and how those stories bring people together. In his collection is a special Harley Davidson motorcycle that is a tribute to his friend Vietnam war veteran Richard William Rick Teagle, who passed away in 2020. We hope to continue Dale's story in the foreseeable future.
Bob Hansen was raised on the family ranch north of Dunn Center, North Dakota. Bob, along with his family, still operates the ranch. Bob enjoyed ranching with his parents, three brothers, and three sisters. Growing up in a ranch family, Bob had early exposure to rodeo. He competed in high school rodeos and earned a scholarship to Dickinson State College in football and rodeo. As a key member of both teams, Bob was often asked to compete at a football game on Saturday, then flown to the collegiate rodeo taking place. Bob Hansen is our NDCHF Hall of Honorees inductee of the week.

TAKEAWAYS
