Ep. 62: Factors Limiting Deer Abundance in the Upper Peninsula with Biologist Kristie Sitar
On this episode guest biologist Kristie Sitar discusses, Factors Limiting Deer Abundance in the Upper Peninsula, a report she co-authored. She breaks down the data used in looking at the factors that are contributing to a decline in buck harvest in the UP of Michigan. From degraded habitat, hard winters, and predation, each play a role in affecting the deer population. We discuss each in detail in regards to the correlation these factors have with buck harvest. We close with the current state of the UP's deer population and what can be done to help a declining deer herd. Check out the report for yourself by following the link below.

The last day of the 2022 deer season is the first day of the 2023 deer season. There is no time like to present to get prepared for the upcoming deer season. I fire up the chain saw and start cutting timber to create opens in the canopy and put cover on the ground. I break down my hunting area and how and where i decided to add additional bedding cover. This episode I bring back the Conservation News desk to discuss a bill banning "Assault weapons" and what it could mean for Michigan hunters. Ep. 47: Vitalize Seed And Soil Health With Albert Tomechko
Source:
https://www.podbean.com/eau/pb-8c354-128a7b5
It's that time of year, food plot season. Joining me on this episode is Albert Tomechko, founder and president of Vitalize Seed Company. Albert has spent the last 6 years food plotting and creating his own seed blends. This year he's partnered with Jared Van Hess (Host of the Habitat Podcast) to bring those blends to market. We discuss the development of the blends and the plants within each mix. Vitalize seed is a one two punch. Nitro boost planted in the spring prepares the ground and boosts nutrients for the fall mix that in turn does the same for the spring mix. This system takes advantage of nutrient cycling for better performance of the food plots and promote better soils. Get out your note pad and be ready to take notes of all of the great information that Albert has to share.
