JOHN CHAPTER 6 PART 2 WHAT IS GLORIOUS “LIFE”?
It should be kept in mind that Jesus was living a life of authority over satan before His Crucifixion and Resurrection, such as when He sent out the 70 and the 12 to heal and cast out demons in His Name before His death. But if this is true, as shown in Scripture, what was the Victory over satan after His Death and Resurrection for? What did His death and resurrection accomplish? If man was able to take authority over satan before His death and resurrection, why then was it necessary that Christ should shed His Blood? If there was efficacy enough in the blood and flesh of a slain lamb to remit sin and bring justification before God as it relates to eternal life, why the necessity of Christ’s Death and Blood? The answer is that there is a vast difference between eternal life and glorious Life (eternal glory) for which the blood of an animal could not answer. Certainly if the blood of an animal could bring remission of sins and justification for eternal life…then how far greater does the Blood of Christ reach? It is one thing to be appointed to exercise authority in someone else’s authority, and it is totally another thing to be the authority. The ‘Bride’ of Christ and ‘First-Born’ son of God is to be the Authority. It is the one thing to be the appointed authority over the household, and another to be the wife of the homeowner. Just as it is one thing to be a subject of the King, and another to be a member of the Royal Family, and even another to be His Queen. As these relationships represent a different degree of closeness, Eternal life and Glorious Life are degrees of the same Life that represent degrees of closeness and relationship with God. There is a vast degree of difference between eternal life and eternal glory.
Eternal ‘Death’ in the Lake of Fire is defined as the ultimate separation from God the Creator and Judge. This then is the state of no ‘life’ as opposed to a state of non-existence. Scripture declares that there shall be no more ‘death’…which is to be understood as no more material dying or spiritual dying leading to the ultimate separation from God. We can say that intelligent Creation may be discovered to be on one end of ‘Life’ without any relationship with God which is eternal death… or they may be on the other end of ‘Life’ in ultimate glorious intimacy of union with God.
Dead unsaved men are under the sentence of eternal death but they are not yet judged or condemned to eternal death in the Lake of Fire… which only the Great White Throne Judgment will determine. That Judgment being for each and every one brought up out of the intermediate place of the Dead in the 2nd resurrection.
VERSES 25-40… “And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither? Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. Labor not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. They said therefore unto him, What sign showest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work? Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world (“For in the day thou eatest of this ‘Tree’, thou shalt surely live”). Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst (reference the Holy Spirit). But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this....

JOHN CHAPTER 6 PART ONE Feeding the 5000 and Calming the Sea
What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
The Fourth and Fifth ‘Signs’ (the Feeding of the Five Thousand and the Calming of the Sea) in the Gospel account of John, are the only two signs of the Eight Signs he gave that are also written of in the other 3 Gospel accounts and therefore are to be taken together for fullest understanding. (These are recorded in more detail in Matthew 14:10-34, Mark 6:26-52, Luke 9:9-17) The Calming of the Sea being a ‘sister’ sign of the Feeding of the Five Thousand and speaks also emblematically and prophetically to Israel’s ancient, present, and future condition.
Chapter 5 began with John’s documenting of Jesus Christ going up to that unnamed Feast in Jerusalem alone without his yet full-time disciples accompanying. In Chapter 6:1, John writes… “After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberius” (one of several towns/cities so named after one of Rome’s kings, still so named and occupied by Jews today, symbolically a monument to the 4th beast of Daniel 7 yet to ascend in authority over the Land of Israel and when they shall be scattered again). Starting in this verse, John passes over almost a year, including further events that followed after Jesus’ 2nd return to Galilee from Jerusalem after the unnamed Feast mentioned in Chapter 5. It had been almost a year since He sought out those disciples whom He had chosen previously. This being in John Chapter 1, just after His 40 days of Temptation in the Wilderness by satan immediately following being Baptized by John the Baptist. A year ago, the disciples had accompanied Him to Cana, saw the first sign of the Water being turned into Wine, and then accompanied Him on His first Passover Feast into Jerusalem just after Christ’s full-time call to His Ministry. Then passing through Samaria and staying with Him for those two days, they departed then back to Cana in Galilee where the 2nd sign is recorded by John of the healing of the Jewish Ruler’s Son, which is related to us in John 4:43-46. After which shortly it is apparent they had returned to their professions as seen in the other Gospels. It is also seen in that Jesus later went up to the unnamed Feast alone. (John 5:1)
John passes over Jesus bringing those previously chosen disciples into full- time ministry with Him as fishers of men and that year of proclamation of the Kingdom of heavens’ message accompanied by the signs of validation as to Who He was, and the further discipleship of His 12 chosen. (Matthew 4:18-25, Mark 1:16-20, and see Luke 5:1-11) Matthew 4:23-25 helps fill in John’s left out year of activities, “And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom (of heavens), and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had palsy; and he healed them. (So in this further Word of Matthew, it is seen what John passed over in that one year of ministry history. That included their being sent out (first the 12, then the 70) in anointing alone to heal the sick and cast out demons and teach the Jews the kingdom of heavens is drawing nigh. John also passes over the murder of John the Baptist, which is set forth in the other Gospels as the impetus for Christ’s and His disciples passing over from the West side of the Sea of Galilee to the East side. (Matthew 14:10-13 with John 6:1) John the Apostle proceeds with his account and gives two more ‘Signs’ that had been given by God to Israel to validate Jesus, His Deity, the Creator, the One of Whom Moses Wrote, the Son of God/Son of Man, their King, and the necessary manifest return of Glory to the Nation.
And seeing the multitudes (on the West side of the Sea of Galilee, and with the news of John the Baptist’s death, He gave the word to pass over by boat to the other side of the Sea of Galilee where), he went up into a mountain; and when he was set, his disciples came unto him…” (Matthew 5:1-2) Now to be understood as the corresponding time of John Chapter 6 and Verse 3… “Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples” where He taught them the principles of the Kingdom of heavens as recorded by Matthew in Matthew Chapters 5-7.)
John 6:4… “And the Passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh.” It is the 2nd approaching Passover....

JOHN CHAPTER 5 VERSES 19-47 MOSES WROTE OF ME
The whole of John’s Gospel (written sometime between 33AD and 62AD) and the relating of 8 certain ‘signs’, in its first and primary meaning, is a specific review/refresher course to the post-Resurrection Jew. That which continues in the appeal to the leaders of the Nation in their required and necessary cleansing through heartfelt repentance in order to fulfill the calling of ‘Wife’ of God (Hosea 1:2 and the following verses), to know Him as the Father, and for Him to establish His Theocratic Kingdom upon the Earth and Rest from His Work in the coming Millennial ‘Sabbath’ Day.
This unbendable necessity is based upon His own unchangeable Word which was declared from the Garden of Eden; not only His purposeful intent, but His eternal requirement for the future replacement ruler-ship in this World “…let them (together) have dominion”. (Genesis 1:26-28) This pervading Truth throughout Scripture is typically and prophetically set forth by Moses’ writings and the writings of the Prophets of the Old Testament. It was this precedent-setting truth that the Jews who confronted Christ in John Chapter 5, like their predecessors, were entirely ignorant of, in spite of their continuing insistence of being students and followers of Moses. These very same understandings of truth written typically by Moses and the Prophets of the Old Testament are further expounded and expanded upon by the writers of the New Testament, AND are also the basis for all Christians’ New Testament understanding.
It is the spiritual blindness and debilitating infirmness due to Scriptural ignorance, that was a result of generations of misleading teachers who sat in the Seat of Moses. These being the Pharisees, Scribes, Sadducees, and Herodians who caused these ancient Jews to resist the Kingdom of heavens additional ‘life’. “But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heavens against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.”
[Matthew 23:2,13]
LIFE AND LIFE MORE ABUNDANT
There is ‘life’ for the unsaved (not born-again in their spirit) represented at the Brazen Altar. There is ‘life’ for the unsaved that is also represented in Numbers 21 in the Brazen Serpent being lifted up and looked at. There is ‘life’ for the unsaved who look to the provision set forth in the typical Rock struck in the Wilderness by Moses. (1st Corinthians 10:4) All these typical examples, written by Moses, may be related in the evangelizing of the unsaved. Who then may see typically portrayed Christ’s propitiation for ‘life’ to be restored before the Father and thereby having faith, appropriate the ‘life’ rejuvenating their ‘lifeless’ spirit within. These ‘types’ being that anti-typical reality of the Blood of Jesus having been applied to the 3rd Heaven’s Mercy Seat. (Hebrews 9)
But the primary meaning set forth typically in the Old Testament is for the saved to be saved… that they may draw upon the further provision represented in these typical accounts unto the realization of a greater ‘Life’ infused into the soul (Hebrews 10:35-11:6, James 1:21, 1st Peter 1:9,22), ultimately in the First Resurrection, unto a oneness in unity with the Father and Son in the power of the Holy Spirit. (1st Corinthians 15:2, with John 17:21)
These types set forth in Moses’ writings, and “signs” by Christ set forth in John are reflective of God’s required further Work of perfection, maturity, unto the glorious ‘Life’. It is that Work that answers to Christ’s current Ministry of High Priest for the already saved. Wherein the saved may appeal to His Blood on the Mercy Seat for additional mercy and enabling grace. The already saved may look up and be healed from murmurings, immaturity, and defiling sins since being saved (Jesus having interpreted the meaning and necessary further work behind Moses’ writing of Numbers 21 to Nicodemus), that the already saved may drink of the cleansing and refreshing waters during his wilderness journey unto the High Calling of God the Father in His Son Jesus the Christ, that the already saved might ultimately realize the prize for faithfully running the race set before him. (Philippians 3:14, 1st Corinthians 9:24-10:6,11,12)
What is typically glaring, and being set forth in Moses’ Law as example to the unrepentant Jewish Leaders is the unclean man, who already being saved by the blood of the Passover lamb’s atonement, but now later being defiled by the coming into contact with ‘death.....

JOHN CHAPTER 5 VERSES 1-18 SICK OF SOUL (“Wilt thou be made whole?”… the healing of the soul resides in the will of man)
John records the 3rd Sign to Israel (and is specifically noted to be in Jerusalem where the seat of Government was), which declared that the Glory, with promise of ‘life’ and ‘life more abundant, being unsought, had yet returned to Israel, in the eternal form of Jesus the Christ (John 2:11), but this reappearing was not in answer to Israel’s keeping of the Law. On the contrary, Jesus their Messiah wished them to see that a new Dispensation based upon faith and Grace had begun. He had hoped they would recognize that He was that Prophet of the promised ‘New Covenant’ (Jeremiah 31:31) Whom Moses foretold them to give heed. (Deuteronomy 18:18) He was to be the revelation to Israel of their not having been made holy through the Law, and was testifying that their condition of infirmness was the result of disobedience and being woefully out of favor with God, and that only by His Son, the Messiah and King of Israel, may they now find the means unto holiness and fulfillment of their call as a Nation. But the ‘keepers’ of Moses Law did not believe they were unrighteous sinners in danger of losing their inheritance, and were pleased with their perspective of the Mosaic Covenant and would not abide in Him Who would set aside Moses as their guide.
So John writes that Jesus returns to Jerusalem for the second time to an unnamed Feast. And sets forth this Third Sign, which was unlike the first two Signs, where He was sought out by someone. In this Sign, He seeks out and heals a certain ‘impotent’ man at the Pool of Bethesda (which means 'place of healing’) and then draws out the animosity of the Jewish religious zealots in authority, by healing him and then instructing him to take up his mat. By that, He then increased their earnestness to kill Him in that they refused His justification for the deed; for He declared, “My Father worketh (it is His work of the Restoration of all things after the Fall of Adam) hitherto (since then to now; typical of His 6 days of work in the re-Creation (Genesis 1:2-31), and I (His Son) work (accordingly to that un-discerned end).”
The ‘great multitude’ of sick, blind, lame, and withered on the five (5=grace) porches at the pool of Bethesda and the constantly pathetic scene of selfish ambition (to beat all others to the water) is one reflective of the Nation of Israel’s spiritually sick, blind, lame, and withered condition. (Deuteronomy 28:15, Isaiah 1:4-6) The fact that sins committed and diseases manifest can be linked together is Scripturally undeniable. And is a stated fact of the Old and New Testaments (1st Corinthians 11:30, James 5:14,16), wherein the Old Testament, God had declared to Israel that if they kept His Covenant with its Commandments they would not be sick. The scene of our text in John 5 reminds of Exodus 15:22-27… And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah. And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink? And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree (representative of the Tree of Life), which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them, And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee… (it is here by the waters of Marah, where all the hopeless complainers of Israel were gathered, that God made Himself known miraculously, not only as Israel’s healer, but on condition He now bestows upon them divine health. “And was not one feeble person among their tribes.”- Psalms 105:37) Christ’s healing of the lame man at the Pool of Bethesda was a sign to show Israel where they could be if they chose Him, but because of their rejection, it now speaks to the loss of Divine health. Exodus 15:27 continues… And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water (this destination in the number 12 shadows the perfect completeness in Theocratic Government and divine life and health God will eventually lead His People into), and threescore and ten palm trees (Seventy has a sacred meaning in the Bible that is made up of the factors of two perfect numbers.....

John 20:26-31… “And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless (surely Thomas had justifying faith and life of an eternal kind), but believing (allowing for a further work upon the soul). And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye (first to the Jew) might believe that Jesus is the Christ (the Messiah King of Israel), the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life (being of a more abundant kind) through his name.” The first Sign John relates to the post-Crucifixion Jews, especially to those who sit in the seat of Moses’ authority (Matthew 13), that they might believe, had to do with a ‘Wedding’ at Cana. The wedding foreshadows the Father’s restoration of His Wife Israel/the reinstitution of their marriage (and is also a type for Christ’s faithful Bride). These shadows reflect reality. So this 2ND SIGN documented by John of Jesus’ healing of the Jewish Nobleman’s son was typical of the restoration/healing of the Nation of Israel as the First-Born sons of God. The restoration was done the ‘Third Day’ (after 2000 years), which signifies Jews being restored/brought out of End-Time ‘Egypt’/all the Gentile Nations to be possessors of that Land promised as the seed of Abraham. (This also being typical of the Resurrection of the First-Born Sons of the New Creation out from the dead).
John 4:43… “Now after two days he departed thence (from the Gentiles of Samaria), and went into Galilee. Now pictorially, we see in these words… ‘Now after’ means this current 2000 years/two -1000 year days we are now seeing completed, “when the fullness of the Gentiles be come in” (Romans 11:25) which has the prophetic word of the Acts 15:14 in view “…to take out of them a people for his name (which answers to Matthew 21:43) …after this I will return (to the Jews; which answers to the 3rd-1000 year Day - see Hosea 5:13-6:3), and will build again the tabernacle of David (which has in view Ezekiel’s Millennial Temple economy - see Ezekiel Chapters 40-48), which is fallen down (speaking of the condition of Israel’s religious system in the Worship of God that He now sets aside for 2 Days/2000 years); and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up (when I come back to usher in the Millennial Day of Rest - Revelation 20:6) That the residue of men might seek after the Lord…” This final statement speaks to the surviving remnant of Jews and Gentiles left alive on the Earth after the catastrophic destruction associated with Christ’s coming back to deal with the last day affairs of this Earth. (Zechariah 14:16, Acts 3:19-26)
Prophetically, Jesus’ Return coincides with End-Time Judgments that culminate with the destruction of the enemies of Israel, the Assyrian King, and the Babylonian King who defeated and oppressed ancient Israel. These epitomize and are typical of the great End-Time tyrannous King and great oppressor of Jews and Israel; the silver-tongued little horn (Daniel 8:23-25); the Anti-Christ. He is the one who will come in his own name (John 5:43) with lies and false agreements; that in the middle of the Tribulation is found to be no refuge to the Jews in Jacob’s Trouble. (Isaiah 28:14-23, Daniel 9:27, Jeremiah 30, Isaiah 13 & 14)
For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.
A Prophet ordinarily would not be known for miracle-working, but for giving the revealed Word of God on a matter; being chiefly a physician of the soul. The honor the Lord did not receive of His countrymen was because of their familiarity with Him and His family, Him being from Nazareth, the son of a carpenter, and being without formal education. They did not receive Him as a Prophet giving them the exhorting Word of God, but as a worker of miracles. He was viewed as a supernatural physician of the body which caused them to welcome Him. (Both then, and now, the healing of the body are a distraction from our true need, which is healing/saving of the soul, those Jews and Christians being already saved in spirit....

John the Apostle’s main focus in his account of Jesus the Christ is to declare the Deity of Jesus as the Son of God, Messiah King of Israel, and Lamb of God. And that He had revealed Himself and His Glory and testified to these things by supernatural ‘Signs’ to Israel as the incarnate Son of man. In his gospel, God’s determinate will is revealed, which was to restore the Nation of Israel to lost Glory through Him in the inheritance of the Kingdom of heavens; which was an advance on the Kingdom of Earth. The thrust of John’s gospel account was to persuade Jews to accept Jesus and draw nigh, and receive Him as their King. Not only with repentance, but with deeds of worthiness by the power of the Holy Spirit. Moving beyond mere justifying faith and walking in sanctifying faith (as did Abraham) is necessary to have a part in the Kingdom of heavens. This was the overall theme of the 4 Gospels and the Book of Acts.
This account of Jesus, penned by John, one of His favored Disciples, was structured in such a way that would appeal to the post-crucifixion Nation of Israel. Its purpose was to cause them to believe and turn to Jesus and thus allow them to receive the fullness of His Atonement with the power of the Holy Spirit, so as to grant them their full inheritance according to the promises God was to give to Abraham and his seed. All the while now (which is to say; in the post Crucifixion re-offer of the Kingdom of the heavens to the Leaders and Nation of Israel and before their continued stubbornness which finally leads to God closing the door to Israel as a Nation from ruling from the Kingdom of heavens, as seen in Acts 28:28. This door being closed by Paul about 30 years after Christ’s Crucifixion) the Gospel of Adoption to the Gentiles is held forth; in that He is indeed the Messiah, King of Israel, the Son of God, the Son of Man, the Lamb of God, and “…the Christ, the Savior of the World.” It is in this last mentioned inclusive Title of Savior of the WORLD that He presents Himself to the Samaritans and is recognized and received by them. (Verses 10-15 with Verses 39-42) Jesus tells the Samaritan woman at the well that she and her Nation had no place among the Jews in the then passing Dispensation of the Law of Moses. (Verse 22) Her vain presumption of Jacob being the Samaritans’ ‘father’ and their having an inheritance from him had to do with their sketchy limited knowledge of the Old Testament. Their prejudice acquired by believing that only the 5 Books of Moses were inspired by God. But Christ’s appearance and His Ministry to them opened the way unto the inheritance through a well’s inheritance, not giving forth an earthly water for those ever dying, but heavenly living water for those ever living. And that through the saving grace Dispensation of the Father’s World-wide search for true worshipers, just then emerging, which held forth promise of invitation and acceptance (Verses 23-24) whether they were Jews, as some of them proposed or were Gentiles as others supposed made no difference. The economy of the One New Man emerges at the well, for Samaritans were highly typical of the One New Man. Let the Worldly boast in their fleshly parentage; ours is of our Heavenly Father’s parentage where there is neither Jew nor Gentile! All these things can be seen in this Portion.
Verses 1&2 This newly introduced Water Baptism begun by John was to show the heart and desire of the Jewish disciple to enter the Kingdom of heavens’ glory and to surrender the hope of sanctification unto holiness under the Old Covenant Law of Moses. This was joined and continued by Jesus. Although He did not Himself immerse others in water. For it was effectively into His Name as the Messiah the Son of God they were being baptized into, by way of revelation of understanding in the necessity of repentance unto forgiveness of sins for being wayward redeemed children of God. (Acts 2:38) Also, Christ did not Himself Water Immerse because Christ’s Ministry was to be an advancement on the old economy of Water Baptism, as He was He Who would be the Baptizer of the Holy Spirit and Fire. Without Whose further Work of sanctification unto holiness on the their corporate or individual soul there would be no personal or corporate realization of inheritance (in neither the Kingdom of the earth or) in the further and greater glory of the Kingdom heavens. Upon the rejection of Jesus as Messiah King of Israel by the Leaders of Israel who sat in Moses’ Seat of authority, they thereby also rejected that....

“After these things (Jesus’ dialogue with Nicodemus) came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized. And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized. For John was not yet cast into prison. Then there arose a question between some of John’s disciples and the Jews about purifying. And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him. John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven. Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.” [John 3:22-27]
These verses have to do with a dispute between John’s disciples who were jealous for their master’s reputation and one who was supposedly baptized by Jesus (not baptized by Jesus personally, but by His disciples; see John 4:2).
There are a few more thoughts here to be conveyed for proper understanding of Water Baptism. Water Baptism for the Lord was secretly a looking onward to His Death on the Cross, His Burial, and His Resurrection. The Rite of Water Immersion's greatest significance was a mystery to all but the Godhead. (1st Corinthians 2:7-8) Water Baptism represents Christ’s bearing the sins of Mankind on the Cross, then spending 3 days in Hades in the center of the Earth (being there declared triumphant over His enemies Satan, Death and Sin), and then being raised up and united with His spirit and body to now sit gloriously exalted as Lord and Christ at the right hand of the Father.
Acts 2… “He (David prophetically) seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell (Hades; the intermediate place of all dead), neither his flesh did see corruption. This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Until I make thy foes thy footstool. Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord (Master and King) and Christ (Savior; the anointed One of God prophesied to come, to Whom all the offerings pointed). Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off (reaching all the way unto us today), even as many as the Lord our God shall call. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.”
WHAT WATER BAPTISM MEANT TO BOTH THE JEW AND GENTILE:
1) First, let’s look from the perspective of the Jew of that day who was already *‘saved/’ justified by the Paschal lamb offerings (*justified meaning; the forgiveness of the inherent sin of Adam for which they/we had nothing to do with. Justification was the beginning of a dichotomy of the birth of a New Man within; the flesh and the spirit being set at enmity with each other. See Galatians 5:17 and Romans 8:6). To these then Water Baptism was to be the ritual in preparation for a part in the promised Kingdom that John and Jesus were declaring was drawing nigh. And therefore, receiving their testimony was an outward declaration of an inward decision, of repentance for waywardness through willful sinfulness against the Law of Moses, as His already/previously redeemed/set apart people… being then purified/cleansed in soul by John’s and Jesus’ Baptism in Water (with a view to the Baptism of the Holy Spirit for the purpose of the receivers to make Him not only Savior but Lord) to henceforth walk according to those worthy making Kingdom principles, being set forth by John and his disciples and Jesus and His disciples. So Water Baptism, to the saved Jew who had already been atoned for by the Paschal lamb, was not to make them justified again, but rather to sanctify them......

HELP ME HELP YOU! This is the Cry of the Holy Spirit. We have the gift of the power of the Holy Spirit to equip us to have victory over sin, but WE have to yield our wills first to the Holy Spirit. He won’t run the evil out of us. We have to take up the whip ourselves and cast out whatever is defiling to our soul as Christ did the moneychangers from the Temple, in order to be an overcomer and attain unto the glorious Kingdom promises… Scripture tells us that Israel, a Nation called out of the World, and separated from other Nations by God, is the ‘wife’ and ‘first-born’ son of God, having already been declared by God to be so in the Old Covenant. It is in this well- known understanding that John the apostle sets forth his Gospel argument and appeal to Israel to accept Jesus as Christ the Messiah of the Nation and to follow Him in order that they might enter into the glorious Kingdom promised to them.
Whereas Christians, being the one new man in the Body of Christ (Ephesians 2), are neither ‘wife’ nor ‘first-born’ sons. They who believed in Christ’s Atonement are born from above in spirit, and are thereby removed out from the authority of satan over Gentiles and placed positionally in His Dear Son. They are, spiritually speaking, a New Nation raised up in heavenly places, and are forever more ‘children’ of God. These are then instructed to be ‘buried’ emblematically in Baptism/immersion into water, wherein the new inward man then emerges to walk in this World, but not of it, in a spiritual ‘resurrection’ leaving the old man in ‘death’ beneath. And typically being redeemed and raised up; no longer to be a man of the Earthly type walking by the flesh and earthly reason, but of a spiritual type; to walk in Christ’s Resurrection newness of life (Romans 6) as a heavenly type citizen. That is to say, to follow diligently and to be tutored (as a child) by the spirit/Holy Spirit through the Word of God and disciplined by the Father unto a worthy Christ-likeness. (Romans 8, Hebrews 12) And this further work that goes beyond justification is characterized by Paul as a ‘race’. If found worthy at the end of one’s race, one would attain the Prize of the First Resurrection (1st Corinthians 9, Philippians 3); and the inheritance of Brideship/being wed to Christ, and in type; being declared a ‘first-born’ son of God. (Revelation 19, Hebrews 2, Revelation 21:7)
So it is, that both these inheritances (that of marriage and first-born sons) are future events determined at the Judgment Seat of Christ. Both have to do with inheritance of a royal and glorious life (Romans 8, 2nd Corinthians 4), glorious life going beyond mere eternal life. For the justified (those that are ‘saved’ but never progress to a state of being sanctified) retain the threat of future punishment for their disobedience and unfaithfulness. (Modern Christianity has essentially taken a black magic marker and crossed out all scriptures pertaining to accountability. Or they misrepresent these scriptures of punishment as being intended for the Jew or for the ‘Lost’.) But an individual Christian has the conditional promise of wedding, in that all Christians are espoused to Christ. (2nd Corinthians 11:2) Only those who are found worthy are seen wedding Christ in the heavens above this Earth after they are caught up to be His Bride (Luke 20:35, Revelation 12:5) in the First-fruits Harvest and in the First Resurrection Harvest (Revelation 14:12-16), they being together then in Revelation 19:7-9. They then also are manifest as adopted first-born sons of God. (Romans 8:14-23, Hebrews 12)
Verse 11 “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. (From an earthly perspective, it is John the Baptist to whom Christ refers to in the ‘we’ as one of the two witnesses, Himself of course being the other. Deuteronomy 19:15 declares that by the mouth of two or three witnesses, a matter is established.) This lack of believing the good report of the Witnesses being Christ’s indictment against Nicodemus and the Jewish rulers of Israel. It is typical of ancient Israel, the first-born of God, having been delivered/saved out of Egypt, having then passed through the Red Sea waters of Baptism, who are then presented with the prospect of entering and totally eliminating the wicked Canaan residents and thereby....

And the third day (from Sunday, the day Jesus set forth unto Galilee and finding Philip and and Nathanael, this being Wednesday the 3rd day of His being in Galilee) there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. Jesus saith unto her, Woman (a term used to slightly distance Himself from flesh and blood, as His directives to reveal His Glory are in the hands of the Father - compare with John 19:26 where He also calls Mary ‘Woman’, but not in a harsh way), what have I to do with thee (since I must be only about My Father’s Business)? mine hour is not yet come (until He directs it). His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. And there were set there six waterpots of stone (set there for the many purification washings), after the manner of the purifying of the Jews (multiplied written pages of ‘fencing’ prescribed by the Rabbis), containing two or three firkins apiece (somewhere between 10 and 20 gallons each). Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. -- When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
Jesus enters His Ministry shortly after He refers to Himself as “the Son of Man”, (John1:49-51) as He often does throughout His Ministry. This was Christ’s response to Nathaniel’s insight and exclamation of Him being “the Son of God and the King of Israel’. It being critical that the disciples see Him yet also as a Man in the carrying out of His ‘sign’-filled Work until they had come to learn all that the ‘Son of Man’ implied set along side His being Son of God and King of Israel.
(*A “Sign” given by a man is to show that one who gives or performs it is sent of God. The sign is something of wonder; that is to say out of the ordinary, and considered to be a miracle; in that it takes Divine power to perform. Signs were given to Israel by God and those performed by a man were his validation of his being sent by God and to therefore heed and obey or follow the directive/message he brought forth. Such were the signs accompanying Moses and Elijah in the Old Testament. (Compare with Exodus 3:1-4:31 where God showed many signs given by Moses that made the people of Israel believe that he was sent of God.) It had been around 400 years since Malachi, the last Prophet, him being the one who prophesied of Elijah’s return to Earth… “before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord.” Elijah’s name means ‘my God is Yahweh’ and his ministry was to apostatized Israel. God gave Elijah signs as well to validate that he was sent from God and to call His people to repentance and restoration. Elijah’s first time of ministry was during the time of wicked King Ahab and his wife Jezebel. He performed numerous ‘signs’ that had to do with attempting to establish Israel in the Earth as the Kingdom people called of God in the defending the worship of God over Baal. Jesus’ First Coming to Israel was about 900 years after Elijah was caught away alive into the heavens. Malachi’s prophecy had the Lord’s 2nd Coming in view. And in Elijah’s 2nd coming, he shall again minister his bold ancient message in Israel and validate himself as that Scripturally revealed man of God by performing again many mighty ‘signs’ to the ‘Nation’ of Israel. That message being the same as that of 2900 years ago; that of repentance and choosing God in Israel over false gods, unto sure deliverance and finally the establishment of Israel as the Kingdom of God in the Earth. That message will be brought forth in the End-time antitype of King Ahab and Jezebel; the Anti-Christ and his false Prophet, just before the prophesied 2nd Coming of Jesus. (Revelation 11 & 19)
Now Jesus’ appearance 2000 years ago was according to Old Testament Prophets and prophecy and had to do with God’s Son establishing Israel the seed of Abraham as the Kingdom.....

John the Baptist, when he was probed and challenged by the Priests and Levites was being tempted unto self-assertion (notable that it corresponded with the culminating of Christ’s Wilderness Temptation 40th day) as to who he might say he was, and be ‘somebody’ in the eyes of religious leaders. Yet he professed not to have had visions, nor revelations, nor was he the Messiah, nor the Prophet, nor even a prophet, nor Elijah, but only Isaiah’s prophesied voice crying in the wilderness “prepare ye the way!”
It had been 40 days in heightened reflection in what he had seen and what he had heard before in the years of his wilderness experience now in the light of what he had heard and seen at and since Jesus’ Baptism… and what it had meant to have been the forerunner for this One, for Who he was not fit to be even His slave. He probably wondered if he had fulfilled that which he toiled for and understood his calling to be? He could not but sense that he had reached the very height of his ministry calling, and without any fanfare, he humbly began to see that he must step back now and decrease in the light of this far greater One.
He had spent years in the Wilderness in dedicated faithful solitude, prayerfully meditating on the Scriptures, and hearing from the Spirit about that One Who had come for the fulfillment of all Isaiah’s Words; that of the Christ, Messiah, the Representative Israelite to the Gentile, the Priest, King and Prophet (Read the following verses after Isaiah 9:6; 11:1; 42:1; 52:13; and read Chapters 61 and 66). In this 2nd unexpected sighting of Jesus in two days, it became increasingly clear unto him that what he had been reflecting on these last 40 days, suddenly came into full light. That being that all the prophetic words of Isaiah which spoke of the Christ’ Coming and Calling, which he knew all very well and had so deeply committed to heart and mind (and also of his own role relative to it) all pointed toward Isaiah 53:7… “He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.” (See also Acts 8:26-35 where Philip explained to the Ethiopian eunuch these verses in Isaiah about Jesus.)
What John came to realize was that the institutional and sacramental meaning of the Priesthood and Sacrifices found their fulfillment in Jesus the Christ; as the ‘Lamb of God which taketh away the sin (sin in its singular totality; Adamic passed-on nature of sin as well as personal sin) of the world’. (It is not necessary to suppose that John the Baptist understood the fullness of God’s Salvation Plan in His Lamb, but it was always understood by Israel that the Messiah’s Savior-ship would ultimately extend to the World/Gentiles).
What John the Baptist saw was the climactic view of Israel’s Paschal Lamb, being the basis of all the sacrifices, brought into full focus, that being the two aspects of Christ’s Atonement through His death offering; redemption and fellowship. He must have known that all Isaiah’s and all Old Testament prophets words encompassed this realization in His Messianic Kingdom. That which he had been heralding; the Kingdom of heavens, Israel’s long awaited Kingdom promises, would only be realized in His exaltation sometime after His selfless act of pouring out His soul unto death, that which neither Pharisee nor Sadducee, Priest or Levite had ears to hear or eyes to perceive. “Thine eyes shall see the King in His beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off.” [Isaiah 33:17] That is to say, the Lamb of God to be set as King in His Millennial heavenly Kingdom Glory. Revelation 5:11-13 gives us the destiny of the Paschal Lamb… “And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing. And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb forever and ever.”
VERSES 35-37 “Again the next day (the Sabbath day morning about 10am, appropriately the day closing the ministry of John) after John stood (taking notice of Jesus walking again at a distance….

On the morrow he seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world! This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man who is become before me: for he was before me. And I knew him not; but that he should be made manifest to Israel, for this cause came I baptizing in water. And John bare witness, saying, I have beheld the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven; and it abode upon him. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize in water, he said unto me, Upon whomsoever thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and abiding upon him, the same is he that baptizeth with the Holy Spirit. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
The interview by the Pharisees must have been after Christ’s water baptism by John, seeing before that he testified he knew Him not, having not yet met Christ, but in the interview he said to the Pharisees: “…whom you know not…” (verse 26) And now in verse 29, which is the very next day after that interview, John the Baptist along with presumably his own followers, sees the Lord approaching, which then had to be following Christ’s 40-day wilderness temptation, maybe that very day. And seeing Him, John declares, “Behold the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world.” What a momentous statement! What an unimaginable but necessary revelation given to Christ’s appointed forerunner. He thereby knew that the Messiah of Israel had not come to raise up an army of Israelites to rid the Land of Roman occupation; but to prevail over sin in the World by shedding His Own Blood in sacrificial death. (Isaiah 53)
He is not the Lamb of man offered unto God BUT “the Lamb of God” offered for man. What is in view is that: what all the lambs of man could not affect, the One Lamb of God does. The ‘sacrificial lamb’ of man offered to God and giving up its life blood for him vicariously had critical significance seen in Biblical history going all the way back to Adam’s sin in the garden. By the blood of a lamb, Adam found remission atonement/covering for his sin, rebirth of his spirit; that assurance of deliverance from eternal death. But the lamb of man (see in Genesis 3:21 where an animal was sacrificed when God “made coats of skins and clothed them”) was not enough to restore the glorious intimacy and fellowship they once had with God in the Garden, seen in Adam’s continued being barred from it by the Cherubim who had flaming swords. This is because the blood of an animal is only able to affect a partial restoration, but the Lamb of God that will destroy the works of the devil (and allow, by His Blood, full restoration) was declared by God in the Garden to come. (Genesis 3:15)
It was the ram/‘lamb’ of man for God, caught in a thicket, that took the place of Abraham’s son being obediently offered to God as a blood sacrifice. His offering brought the blessing of God and the irrevocable promise that it would be his ‘Seed’ that The Lamb of God/The Son of God would come from. (Genesis 22:10-18) Also, the lamb of man to God is seen in the obtaining of the ‘saving’ forgiveness and protection afforded in the blood of the Passover lamb in Egypt, along with the countless lambs sacrificed each year at Passover in Israel for many centuries. The same is true for the daily lambs offered up to God for the sins of Israel. (Exodus 29:38-46) But John declares in contrast that this is the Lamb of God and the Son of God. How should we take this declaration of John the Baptist?
THE DUAL ASPECT OF THE LAMB OF GOD’S ATONEMENT…
The first aspect of the Lamb of God’s Blood Atonement being: the saving gift of grace unto restored eternal life into the spirit of man, who was created as a triad being. (1st Thessalonians 5:23) This first aspect (eternal life/saving of the spirit) was already realized in Israel through the appointed substitutionary Paschal lamb’s blood, thereby His coming to Israel was in the second aspect of the Lamb’s Atonement in God’s Salvation Plan. This had to do with ‘saving the soul’ in fullness of restoration purpose of the ‘saved’ of Israel. That is to say that they were to be enabled to be fully sanctified in developing holiness of character, bringing forth fruit of a nature worthy of a calling higher still than that of their Earthly calling of preeminence. Had the Jews accepted Him as the Lamb of God whose Blood would atone for them fully, they would have been enabled to be sanctified and rule and reign with Christ from the heavens. But this suffering Messiah became the stumbling block to the Jew, so then after.....

“And they which were sent were of the Pharisees. And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elijah, neither that prophet? John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; He it is, who coming after me is -- preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose. These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.”
In an effort to… “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”, we’ve laid in the previous lessons some foundational understanding needed to interpret this Book written by John in light of the fullness of God’s Salvation Plan. The Book is not to be seen in the narrow view of today’s accepted theology; that it was/is a Gospel of saving grace unto eternal life written for the ‘Lost.’ It speaks of God’s Salvation Plan which centered around the purpose of creating Man to take dominion, replacing fallen Lucifer, and to then rule in this restored realm comprised of Earth and its heavens. This was a work to be accomplished through the offering of the only Begotten. The Begotten = first born Son of Man/Son of God… “Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world… the Lamb of God… who tasted death for all men… in bringing many sons unto glory… appointed heir of all things… for unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak…wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus… Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into (millennial) rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. (Read the first 4 Chapters of Hebrews which paints a succinct picture of the full Salvation Plan of God, which goes beyond that of saving grace to the lost.) The heavenly calling unto the saved to be found worthy as firstborn sons unto glory with Christ is the overall theme from Genesis to Revelation; seen in its historical, present, and future prophetic perspectives.
To that end, there are purposeful underlying comparative meanings of John the Apostle’s writings who starts his account of the Gospel of Christ (primarily addressed to the Jews) with the words: “in the Beginning”. These are familiar Words for the Jews’ enlightenment in understanding the New Testament based upon the Holy Spirit’s introductory instruction which was the basis for their understanding of the Old Testament. In the first words in the Book of John, the Holy Spirt began to expound on the opening words of Moses as written in Genesis 1. The statement of Genesis’ “In the Beginning” is followed by the record of God’s 6 days of work in the re-creation of the material world (starting in Genesis 1 verse 2); which included the creation of man on the 6th Day, culminating in the 7th Day of Rest. So it is, in the first few words of John’s Gospels, it is written: “In the Beginning”, which should be seen correspondingly as relating with the revealing of Christ now in the ‘re-creation’ of man in the spiritual sense, to culminate in the 7th Day (the 1000 year Day of the Millennial Kingdom of Christ). Using the typology of the Re-creation of the material world… when the original earth had become in a state of ruin, and had to be Re-created (the same earth reformed and reshaped as opposed to God destroying the original), likewise, when fallen man is born-again, he is spiritually Re-created and if he allows Him, God will shape and form him into the image of His Son.
Seeing John’s Gospel account of Christ as being solely a Message to the lost, that they may be ‘saved’ from eternal death, greatly reduces God’s Message to elementary Heaven and Hell issues. This gravely misrepresents God’s Word and cleverly removes almost all the heart of the Gospel and the meaningful inspiration and incentive for achieving spiritual maturity. The Book of John’s message is mainly to ‘saved’ Israel and its primary purpose was to reveal Jesus Christ as Messiah-King. It is essential for a Christian to understand that not only is the Gospel of John not exclusively about being ‘saved’… (not even primarily) but neither are the other 3 Gospel accounts, nor the Book of Acts, nor the Epistles. Rather, they are about the fullness of Christ in the Salvation Plan that all Scripture points towards, which culminates in God’s 7th Day Rest (except for Revelation 21-22, which is after the Millennial kingdom). The 7th day.....

This lesson lays down the foundational understanding that we will build upon as we look at the rest of the Book of John.
VERSE 15 “John (the Baptist) bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.” (Read Luke 3:1-18) John the Baptist came in answer to God’s timeline. His ‘Calling’ was to His elect people of Israel, to prepare the way for the Messiah. He was to herald the “baptism of repentance for the remission of sins…” in view of the fact that the promised Messianic Kingdom of God was drawing nigh. The Kingdom of Israel’s prophesied restoration was thought to be manifested soon; in that the Messiah was being declared to be now alive and living among them. John the Baptist’s exhorting and warning message answered to the prophetic clock of Israel’s promised kingdom restoration in accordance with what God had told the Prophet Daniel in Daniel 9:20-27.
“Seventy weeks are determined
For your people and for your holy city,
To finish the transgression,
To make an end of sins,
To make reconciliation for iniquity,
To bring in everlasting righteousness,
To seal up vision and prophecy,
And to anoint the Most Holy.”
These preceding verses were in response to Daniel’s inquiry as to when Israel’s promised Kingdom would come to fruition. Israel was to be punished for 70 years for not living to the calling/standard that God had called them to. They were to "finish the transgression" or pay the penalty for a specific amount of time before they would be able to return to the Land according to prophecy. However, they had the punishment increased to 70×7 years. This equals 490 years before the prophecy could be fulfilled about the Messiah coming in to make an end of sins and (eventually) set up His Kingdom. John the Baptist’s ministry and public pronouncement of Jesus as the Lamb of God came at this time, at the end of the 490 years.
John the Baptist “… waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel”. [Luke 1:80] John had spent many years as he wandered in the deserts learning to to hear from the Spirit of the Lord. Jesus was living at home in Nazareth with His parents when John the Baptist begins to present himself to Israel. John’s ministry was to prepare the hearts of the people for their long-awaited Messiah. Though John was 30 years old, and 6 months older than Jesus, he yet understood His pre-existence and declared “He was before me.” John perceived what the Pharisees had not… “What think ye of Christ? Whose son is he? They say unto Him, The son of David. He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, The Lord said unto my Lord… If David then call him Lord: how is he his son?” [Matthew 22-43, 45]
John the Baptist, in one aspect, was to call Israelites to repentance/a change of mind from their callous unrighteous deeds in anticipatory faith of forgiveness of sins; a forgiveness of sins discovered in a new way outside the traditional means by way of the Mosaic Law. And in another aspect, he pointed them to the soon Coming Christ; to their Messiah/King anointed by God to rule over Israel, admonishing them to turn their mind and hearts towards Him in repentant anticipation with sincere works of righteous behavior. (Matthew 3:8-9) John heralded Him Who would fulfill all aspects of Israel’s prophesied Kingdom’s realization. Together, the two aspects constituted understanding and submitting to the new symbolic rite of John’s water baptism.
The overall burden of John the Baptist’s message to the Jews was: to announce the approach of the Messiah/King and the proffering to them of the Kingdom of heavens (in their understanding, the Kingdom of heavens is the same as the ‘Kingdom of God’ for which they had always been looking; that of the Jews prophesied preeminence in the Earth over the Gentile Nations in a theocratic government). This was to be the great work of the Messiah Himself; to establish a Kingdom in Everlasting righteousness, wherein their Messiah/King would bring God’s Kingdom to Earth as it is in Heaven. This was the desire of Israel for thousands of years, that which the entire Old Testament was preparatory for. It was/is the great hope of Israel. But how imperfectly did the Jews understand the Kingdom Word… having somewhat the religious form and limited vision of a kingdom coming but all together being self-righteously excluded for being without the heart or mind of clear understanding. (Just as many Israelites....

Verses 6-8 “There was a man sent from God, whose name was John (John the Baptist, the son of Zacharias and Elisabeth). The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light (the truth-Giver who will give men intelligence/light and take them out of illusionary darkness into His Life - Psalm 36:9) …that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, (some had believed that John the baptizer was Messiah) but was sent to bear witness of that Light.” John the Apostle was speaking here of John the Baptist, as well as everywhere else in the Gospel where the name John is mentioned. John was Christ’s appointed forerunner according to the great calling foreseen in the Old Testament. (“Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me…” Malachi 3:1a). It is therefore quite understandable that John the Baptist would so soon be mentioned after John the Apostle’s statement of Christ’s Deity, in that the Baptist was to be the appointed first witness to that Deity. Mark and Luke also introduce John the Baptist early on in their gospels. John the Baptist bore witness that he was not that Light leading to Life that was to come into the World, but that he was to bear witness of Him Who was the uncreated Light and giver of Life, now to be manifest.
John the Baptist, according to Christ’s own testimony, was that ‘burning’ (passionate) and shining (temporary) light of illumination to come first unto Israel; meaning that he was to direct Israelites hearts towards the promised Christ the King and His Kingdom. This is to say, the Lord’s ministry on the Earth was not to be to the unsaved pagan world, but to the “lost sheep of Israel”. (Matthew 10:6; 15:24) Israel was awakened by John the Baptist’s merciful and instructive message, and being moved by faith, they rejoiced in his light for a short season. (John 5:35) But Christ, bearing witness of Himself, as does the Father, was exceedingly more. He was the ever-illuminating Light for all men of the entire World. (John 8:12-19) The obedient First-Born Son’s inheritance was not only offered to the Nation of Israel, but to all the Nations. (Isaiah 49:6) The Light, initially received by any man across the Earth, brings new and eternal LIFE in rebirth of spirit and Divine NATURE that we might then walk in Light instead of darkness. (Romans 8, 2nd Peter 1) All men are naturally born to Adam’s condemned nature, in the eternal state of darkness (Romans 5:12), and are ignorantly lost captives in satan’s World. Every man born of woman are slaves of sin. (John 8:12,23,44) And although dead, John the Baptist still gives his anointed witness of the true Light.
(VERSE 9) “The true light (that separates lies from truth, as it casts out spiritual darkness), which enlighteneth every man (who shall open his mind and heart to Him), was to come into the World (the statement ‘was to come into the World’ is not a reference to ‘every man’ that would come into the World, but to the true Light that was to come into the World, which was made known by Old Testament prophets that would assuredly come into the World through the lineage of Abraham. (Verse 9’s declaration ties back with that statement in Verse 4… “In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”
And so John’s Gospel ties John the Baptist to that ‘Light’ as His forerunner by Malachi 3:1a… “Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me…” then shortly thereafter the Light is to appear suddenly Malachi 3:1b “…and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.”
What is ‘light’ to a man?... but a measure of Truth made known. We can’t get the full measure in this lifetime; light is granted only to a degree. His light is more than we can take in. It illuminates what is right and what is Truth. And what is darkness?... but Truth unknown. What is darkness but man’s continued vain and feeble attempt to attain soulical knowledge and longer life/living outside Jesus Christ, the ‘Tree of life’. ‘Death’ (an eternal separation from the “Life” only found in the Son of God) is their condemned condition following after their ‘father’; the author and ruler of the multifaceted World system designed to keep the lost soul in darkness and in slavery to sin, alienated from God.
The spiritually-blind un-regenerated man does not, upon conversion, receive enough light for clearness of vision, but is.....

THE BOOK OF JOHN: INTRODUCTION AND VERSES 1-5
The Gospel/Book of John was written by the Apostle John probably from the city of Ephesus between 70-80 AD. That date being the general consensus, which would put this Book after the fall of Jerusalem to Rome. John was the son of Zebedee, and was the brother of James (together called the “Sons of Thunder” by Jesus). He was the youngest of the disciples, but lived to be the oldest, the others having been martyred. God, for an Age-lasting record of Who Christ was/is, gives John flawless insight and Holy Spirit-guided words to write. He, having been an eye witness, and having the heart and mind of God, gives inspired testimony from the Holy Spirit to the Jews and Gentiles who were and would always be questioning the origin and nature of Jesus in relation to God.
It was the last of the four Gospels, the other three having been written 10-20 years earlier. Thought to be written before the Epistles of John (1st, 2nd, and 3rd John), and certainly before 96 AD, which is when the last book John wrote was; that being the Book of Revelation.
The Bible, although penned and compiled by men, from Genesis through Revelation is to the Christian the inspired Written Word of God. The Book of John the Apostle is one of 4 Books that are called the ‘Gospels’ (good news/messages) of the New Testament. The New Testament may be divided up into 4 groups without harm for clearer understanding:
The four Gospels
The Acts of the Apostles and the General Epistles (including the earlier Letters of Paul, and of Peter, James, etc.)
The later Pauline Epistles (Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians)
The Revelation of Christ given to John the Apostle
The overall theme or subject of the Old and New Testament is the coming of The King and His Kingdom (although the Jews of Christ’s day had a very different understanding of the Messiah and His Coming Kingdom. Why did the Jews reject such a strong candidate to be that promised King? Of course it was pride and jealousy, but it was much more than that. The environment Christ came into was one where opinions concerning that King/Messiah were skewed by decades and decades of religious ideas and interpretations of the Old Testament. When Truth came, it contrasted with this environment of darkness).
The 4 ‘Gospels’ proclaim God’s King and Kingdom to the Nation of Israel, as did the Books of the Old Testament, especially the prophets. Nevertheless, the Kingdom is rejected (by all but a few) and the King is crucified in Jerusalem. The King and Kingdom are then put in abeyance (temporary suspension) as God turns to call another people to His Son’s Kingdom. (To inherit the heavenly portion of that kingdom, not the earthly, as the Jews never lost the promise of the earthly due to God’s faithfulness to the promises He made to the patriarchs; Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.)
The Book of Acts records the re-offering of the future King and Kingdom to the Jews and reveals their continued unbelief; and finally their ultimate rejection. (Acts 2:38, 3:19-26, 28:16-28) During this timeframe (the past 2000 years in this Age of mercy and grace), the Gospel of the Coming King and Kingdom is being offered to Gentiles as documented in the General Epistles including Paul’s earlier Letters to the Church.
Then we have the later letters from Paul (letters as of his first imprisonment in Rome). These Epistles fully reveal the mysteries of the heavenly kingdom of Christ; Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians. They together reveal and proclaim Jesus Christ exalted to the right hand of the Father and made Head over all things to the Church, which is his body (Ephesians 1:20-23, Philippians 2:9-11, Colossians 1:24-29) wherein is found the mystery or the Kingdom of heavens and its King being revealed (after Israel as a Nation is rejected. Ephesians 3:1-12, Colossians 1:24-29). His Kingship and Kingdom, both the earthly, and heavenly portions “we see not yet” as they are in suspension (Hebrews 2:8) as God calls out Gentiles for His name.
The Revelation is the final Written Word of God. It reveals the future investiture (formal ceremony) of Jesus Christ as King (Chapter 4) and proceeds quickly with establishing His Kingdom in the heavens (associated with this Earth) and in the Earth through His judgments, power and glory. The King is then enthroned. The Old Testament was completed with the last Old Covenant prophet Malachi’s writing and God did not speak again on the Earth until John the Baptist over 400 years later. Likewise, with the New Testament...

The 7 or 8 Parables (if you count the one in verse 52) of Matthew Chapter 13 are overall Christ’s prophetic word about an emerging unknown Age of mercy and grace introduced by John the Baptist, having to do with Christ Himself as the ‘Head’ wherein a ‘Body’ of believers will be called in the Gospel seed of Christ’s Atonement, to further the purposes of the Father hereto unknown. And that being in the first place out of the ‘field’; the field typing the entire World. There will be an eternally saved people brought into God’s eternal Kingdom (this eternal kingdom to be manifest only after the Millennial Kingdom of Christ, which is realized at the Great White Throne Judgment). And then out of that ‘Body’ of believers, there will be, congruently or in harmonious conjunction, a further more threatening calling of a trained and worthy army of overcomers to occupy the heavenly realm of this World in Christ’s Millennial Kingdom. The realization of a new kingdom and government in this world’s heavens is preeminent in the Father’s mysterious Salvation Plan (Ephesians 1 and 2 with Revelation 12) and is to become foremost in His Eternal Kingdom. These overcomers alone are then to be granted this great inheritance reward for service in selfless fruitfulness while occupying faithfully on this Earth according to the fullness of the uncorrupted Gospel of Grace Word, and thereby overcoming satan and his unseen spirit forces currently ruling over this World from this World’s unseen heavenly places. These then are purposefully set against the ruling spirit forces of Darkness in this present World, which answers to satan’s great strategies of resistance described throughout the parables.
The setting of these things in motion, hidden since before the foundation of the World (as we saw in Ephesians 1:4), is in response to Israel’s rejection and crucifixion of the Messiah King and His Kingdom. That’s what brought these things to the forefront. The Jews, being the Promised seed of Abraham had to be offered the invitation to rule in the heavenly kingdom first, but when they rejected it in their hearts, it set in motion that the truths of the heavenly kingdom inheritance would pass from one nation to another. The truths were now not only offered to Israel only, but to the world (the field being a type for ‘the world’ in the parable of the sower).
Any interpretation of these parables of the mysteries of the kingdom of heavens must have these above-mentioned Truths at the core. The Jewish leaders were made up of three sects: Pharisees, Sadducees, and Herodians, which were forever resistant to Christ and to the fact that His authority was from God, even though this was clearly confirmed by the miraculous signs which He did. But even to these, they blasphemously assigned His works to a power given Him by the dark and evil powers. (Matthew 12:24,31,32) In response to their persistent hardheartedness, the Lord declares their rejection of them as that Nation of people to rule with Him from the heavenly kingdom. (Matthew 21:43… “Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.”) Never is one more blind than when he refuses to see, and then God judiciously hardens his heart. (Isaiah 6:9-10… “He said, “Go and tell this people: “‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’ Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.”)
Israel, redeemed from Egypt and having been called and empowered to be God’s representative in the Earth for some 4000 years, had historically fallen short in obedience to the calling until finally God announced by His prophet Jeremiah that He would, in judgment on Israel, for their stubborn continuation in the sin of unbelief, set aside the realization of their Earthly Kingdom by taking away their ruling authority in the Earth. Whereby the Gentiles were un-resisted by God as He appointed King Nebuchadnezzar to rule over the entire Earth, followed by successive Gentile Nations, even as it is today.
So starting with Nebuchadnezzar, the Jews would be subject to Gentile rule, and that for a season. Regarding this, Daniel seeks and prays asking God how long will this continue until Israel would be restored to preeminence in the Earth, to which Daniel’s revelation of 70 weeks of 7 years answers. (Daniel 9:25-27) The prophesied....

This lesson is not to cover what each individual piece of armor is, but rather, to speak to what the armor is to be used for. This being to win the war for our inheritance, that we, as the new creature in the image of His Son, might rule with Christ over this world. We are told in the first chapter of Ephesians that the Mystery of the Kingdom of the heavens was conceived in the mind of God before the foundation of the world (that is, before recreation of the Earth out of its destruction and chaos in the 5 days just preceding His creation of man). The mystery involved God’s desire to then form a ‘New Creature’ from man after the image of His Resurrected Son, in that they, like Him, should be holy and without blame before him in love: having predetermined us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will… (Ephesians 1:4-5) Jesus Christ having been resurrected and seated at the right hand of the Father, in power and far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion and every name that is named, not only in this world (the one we live in now whose foundation is alluded to above, and where in spite of Christ’s right of dominion, satan yet rules), but also in that which is to come (that is this world in the future in which Christ manifests as its rightful Ruler): And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, which is his body (Ephesians 1:20-23) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:6)
God had predetermined in Christ to extend mercy and grace for an Age in the calling out of a people from all nations, first that ‘whosoever’ could be eternally redeemed from the condemnation of Adam and Eve’s sin, and additionally in answer to the Mystery of the heavenly Kingdom. That vast fullness is to be realized in the Atonement Sacrifice of Jesus Christ His Son, in that He has further set aside that Age to call those redeemed people unto a glory-filled inheritance in the heavens as the exalted Bride of His Son, attainable only by worthiness through the further empowering of the Holy Spirit. All beginning on the Day of Pentecost 2000 years ago.
This calling of a body of people that must be formed into the image of the ‘Head’ in order to rule from the heavens, is to be made up of all peoples and is most fully revealed in the Book of Ephesians. It is a prize to be won by those willing to crucify their flesh after having been redeemed. It is not to be confused with the gift of eternal life for which they did nothing but express faith in Christ’s Work of Atonement on their behalf. The mysterious heavenly calling of a Christian typically answers to that of… once redeemed out of Egypt, Israel was faced with the calling to defeat the wicked Nations of Canaan and then to set up a new theocratic government in the purged promised land. (Exodus 19:4-6) In the anti-type, Peter expresses God’s foreordained will for a people this way: “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light: which (who) in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God, which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.” [1st Peter 2:9-10] This verse is inseparably connected to the Truth found in several other like revealing verses: #1) it connects to Ephesians 2:9-22 in that this ‘royal priesthood’ is the one ‘new man’… which then answers to #2) Matthew 21:43 where ‘an holy nation’ answers to Christ’s prediction of the rejection of Israel in the then yet mysterious heavenly kingdom and the extending of it to the ‘new man’ Nation. (Acts 13:44-46)
The Nation of Israel was well aware of God’s Prophets who prophesied of a future Messiah of the seed of David who would come and finally establish an earthly Jewish Nation, wherein Jerusalem would be the City of that Great King Priest and Prophet and from where He and the Jews would then rule over the Gentile Nations. But of God’s intent of Israel and its people being only a province of a bigger future Kingdom that included another higher Nation of people adapted and situated in the heavens to rule over the Nations of this Earth, was a mystery, not only to God’s chosen people, but to the wicked spirit rulers ruling over this world. (1st Corinthians 2:7-8)
John the Baptist (being a forerunner of Christ in....

VERSE 10 “Finally my brethren…”
The beginning chapters of this Letter to the Ephesians is about the ‘Mystery’ of the heavenly Kingdom and calling of Christ. The latter part being the Christian’s apprehension and application in the attaining of that Kingdom. The Mystery encompasses the revealed Truths of our war with satan in the conquest of those promised heavenly places. Which answers to Christ’s objective to come and destroy the works of the devil (1st John 3:8) and to give life, and life more abundantly. Satan is the pride-filled and fallen angelic spirit being (with his fallen hosts of spirits, along with human ‘vipers and tares’) standing maliciously between all Men and the Creator since the Garden, but preeminently focusing on Christ followers in the vital purpose of causing each and every Christian to be disinherited from the reward for overcoming the inward and outward forces of evil. This World’s Ruler’s objective is to steal, kill, and destroy, which is to say; to stop, deter, and wreck Christian empowering relationships with God. Paul is now presenting to us that war wherein Christ followers must partake. In these last days, satan’s tactics and powers of darkness are more vast than in the Garden, and even more vast than in Christ’s time. War is evil, but this war is called by Paul, ‘the good fight’. The good fight is to run the course by keeping the doctrines of Truth in Christ that we may take away the authority from satan and his hordes and inherit a portion of the Kingdom of Christ.
Jesus has taken the place of the first Adam; the ‘Body’ of Christ has taken the place of Eve, and her seed is at warring enmity with the Serpent. Satan is tempting with the same lies as in the Garden. God is testing ‘new Eve’ again. Will we be obedient to God or eat of the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil? It is by this ancient ongoing hostility in warfare, set in motion by the mouth of God in response to the Serpent’s deceiving of Eve, that God is now trying and testing His Son’s Body/seed of called out ones. (Us taking the posture of both the Bride of the Second Adam, and also of the offspring/seed of Eve in typology.) We must resist the works of the devil as Christ did, with the Truth/Word of God, for throughout history, satan has stolen away the inheritance of millions of Christians through his cunningness. He has no knowledge whether his attacks will work or not in deterring us, but he persists as he is a raging lion ever-seeking to devour us.
“Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” (Not of our own might, but fully relied on His.) The Lord is satan’s great Antagonist in Heaven while His obedient followers are satan’s antagonists on Earth. This is why we draw the focus of him and his evil forces. It is now, in this Age of Grace and Mercy in Christ, unlike in the Age of Innocence in the Garden of Eden, that Eve (the Bride), having been brought out of banishment from the kingdom of darkness on this Earth by His Own Blood and into the Light of revelatory Truth, (who yet is in the World but not of the World, and unlike 1st Eve) is now resisting the lies of the Serpent in reverential subjection to her victorious Bridegroom. (1st John 3:8) And by listening and following attentively the Bridegroom’s direction and trusting in His strengthening power inwardly in the ongoing war, (Ephesians 3:16) she is lovingly obedient and awaiting His promised return to catch Her up to Him in His coming Kingdom.
VERSE 11 “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Satan and his hosts are bent on the death and extinction of all mankind. It is then seen that God’s defense is on all Mankind in general to a great extent. In that if God was to let satan loose on mankind, not one would survive the hour, as it is God who mercifully restrains satan. To one degree or another, satan has certain God-validated authority in this realm due to Adam’s relinquishment, but yet that authority is limited, especially as it relates to mankind. He is restrained and only granted certain leeway, only that which would answer to God’s own Just and Holy purposes. (See Job 1:12-22 where Job lost all but maintained trust in God and for it received a double portion.) "God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” [1st Corinthians 10:13] This verse can also speak even as it relates to....

Read Verses 1-9… Chapters 3 through 6 are largely words of regulation and guidance from God on how Christ followers are to live on the Earth in their relationships. In the first place because it is ‘right’, and in the second in order that believers by loving faith and obedience be capacitated in Christ-likeness in the power of the Holy Spirit that they might obtain unto Christ’s promised Millennial Kingdom worthiness.
The ongoing practical guidance and warning of these verses continues to stem from the dominant statement of Ephesians 5:21… “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God Christ.” It is the perfect formula for relationships.
We were instructed in marriage in the previous Passage, where we went back to the Garden experience of Adam and Eve where Scripture reveals that God put the Husband over the Wife as it was the Man who came first and Woman came out of Man. The great missing of the mark of the couple is found in that Adam lacked ‘loving leadership’ for his wife, and Eve lacked ‘reverence’; that is to say obedience and loyalty. Responsibility in Leadership was the requirement of the Man and responsibility in Loyalty or Reverence was the requirement of the Woman. This is God’s pattern for government in the family (or in any relation where two or more people are connected). It is neither a democracy, where everyone has a vote, nor a dictatorship, where one arbitrarily commands all, that is God’s decree in Man’s relationships. Neither party, he who is leader or he that is led, is to speak of their ‘rights’ or chafe against the other, but they are to serve responsibly in the capacity in which they are. To be ‘responsible’ means that each person has the other’s well being always in mind, resulting in a harmonious outcome.
Now Paul is adding Children to the family relation and framework of leadership and reverence/loyalty. There is no mention of ‘rights’, but only of responsibilities. Note that the Holy Spirit speaks to Children directly, which is an affirming Word that Children are incorporated members of the ‘Body’ of Christ. Whereby making them responsible for their Godly actions in holiness and righteousness. At what Age? Now in the Jewish community, a Child of 12 is to be considered responsible for their actions. (Seen in how Jesus, at 12, was found in the Temple preaching.) But in New Testament understanding, we see that a Child comes into standing in Christ on the same ground as an adult; that is on ‘believing’ in Jesus as their Savior. Now regardless whether they have been properly reared or not by their parents, the Lord requires the standard set in the Old Testament to be applied to Children in the New Testament… “Children obey your parents… (Some might say that this is a sure example of Christians being under the Law of Moses Exodus 20:12, but New Testament Scripture disproves that false doctrine as can be seen in Romans 6:14-16, Galatians 3:24-25; 5:18, Colossians 2:14 as they are set apart in baptism. Romans 2:19; 6:3-4; 7:4-6 all confirming. The right attitude of a Christian towards the Law of Moses is summarized in this Epistle in Ephesians 2:11-22… “Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world.”). What the Law is, is but a ‘standard’ for holiness and righteousness to a believer in Christ. It is not necessarily the ideal (as it often falls short of it). The quote, in standard, is not to be taken as a directive by the Holy Spirit that a Christian is to be obedient to the Law of Moses or is to aspire to Law-keeping as seen in the verse as it continues with; “in the Lord…” In this statement, in the Lord is where the ‘standard’ is no longer to be considered the command for a believer in that 1) it was only by the power of the will of flesh that the Law of Moses should be kept, the observer being void of the inward influence of the abiding power of the Holy Spirit 2) the command of the Law is accompanied by a disqualifying curse when not fully and continually kept. (Galatians 3:10)
The Child might ask when instructed by the Word of Christ: Why must I ‘reverence’ /obey my parents? The answer is seen in the rest of Verse 1, which is because… “this is right” or righteous says the Lord. No other reason is....

CONTINUING PRACTICAL AND SPIRITUAL INSTRUCTION ON HOW TO IMITATE GOD FOR LIGHT IN WALKING IN WORTHINESS UNTO THE HEAVENLY CALLING. The days wherein the Church is called, are to be increasingly evil. (Matthew 13:33, 2nd Thessalonians 2:7) “Let them grow up together until the Harvest.”
VERSE 14 “Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest (the erring foolish unwise Christians that are darkened in conscience asleep among the dead), and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.”
VERSES 15-21 “See then that ye walk circumspectly (rightfully, diligently), not as fools, but as wise (5 wise virgins of Matthew 25:1-4), Redeeming the time (by prudent and blameless conduct, gaining as much time and opportunity as possible in view of persecution and pending death. The word generally means to buy up, to buy all that is anywhere to be bought, and not to allow the suitable moment to pass by unheeded but to make it one's own), because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise (as the 5 foolish virgins), but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit (that is to say; purchase additional Oil beyond just the Oil of justification that came with the gift of the Lamp) Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God Christ” (all fitting to an environment for being instructed in Christ-likeness. Note that this should be fear of Christ as He is not only our Savior, but our Judge. The Greek is not God, but Christ).
CHRISTIANS ASLEEP IN THE WORLD are without fear of Christ. For to live is to serve Christ, to serve is to love. This is the only reason appointed by God for a Christian to pass from womb to grave in this life. All the World wants to live longer, but to what end? To enjoy the pleasures of this World, giving little thought to what happens after having lived. Until we Christians have the light of what living is now all about, we live in vain darkness. We, like the World, and for the same reasons as the World, are overly concerned about how long we live. What does it matter that we live to be 100 and in the process gain the whole world? In the getting more in this life, we lost our purpose for living; the saving of the soul, and that by holiness towards God and righteousness towards man while alive.
Luke 12:13-34… “Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?” And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, and he thought to himself, What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’ But God said to him, Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.” And he said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried. For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows.........
