JOHN CHAPTER 16:1-11
VERSE 1-3 These things (related to My departing from you) have I spoken unto you (that you might have faith in My Words after I have gone and be prepared for great opposition from the Worldly religious Jews), that ye should not be offended (derailed, disheartened, discouraged, taken by surprise, and deterred from your mission; that of your appointed witnessing of Me to Israel when the Spirit of Truth comes and reminds you of these Words).
They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.
And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
‘As the Worldly Leaders of Israel, inspired by satan, who rules the World, have persecuted Me, as a result of My having exposed them as men of error under the control of the spirits of evil,…remember they will persecute you also, as you witness of Me and then to represent to them those things which I had said and revealed as being truth, for which they are rejecting Me (1pet1:7;4:12).
The great temptation for the disciples would naturally be to fall back on the dependence of the Law of Moses when the disciples are faced with the great opposition of the rich and powerful religious system’s adamant declaration of the continuing validity of Moses and the Prophets of Old, refuting their witness, scorning them for their ignorance of Scripture, persecuting them even unto death… And over time be overcome by shock of their lack of any success, throw up their hands and revert back under the Laws of Moses…. as it appears was the case of many Hebrew Christ followers, in the Book written around 20 years after the Crucifixion, to those who were vacillating.
The reason for their discouragement being guarded against being that the disciple’s expectation, after Jesus ascension, would of been that the Kingdom of Israel under the Messiah’s ruling could/should yet be soon established… (as to that possibility it rightly stood un-refuted at this point in time by the Lord or Holy Spirit as the Father had determined to re-offer Israel, assured of the earthly kingdom by promise to Abraham, the heavenly kingdom portion of His Son’s Kingdom and unrealized after a number of years of continued rejection and persecution, their efforts would begin to be seen to be in vain to them and their faith wain.
Read acts1:3-8 and understand the Lord did not detract from their predetermined mission to testify to Israel again of that entire Kingdom earthly and heavenly inheritance that then could yet be realized (although the disciples did not fully understand the heavenly part and its significance until Paul began to reveal its mystery several decades later), if they would receive Jesus as Messiah in repentance,…and then knowing that they would ultimately reject the truth of that inheritance, would have preached half heartedly and ultimately given Israel’s Leadership excuse from God’s judgment.
Though the Lord foreknew Israel’s Leaders continued rejection He did not take away from the disciples just and genuine appeal by telling them all their appeals to Israel would be found to be vain anyway. Therefore “It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.”
These religious Jews, who would hate and persecute them will be declared by the Lord later to John, after their window of opportunity for the heavenly kingdom inheritance was closed (acts28:28) as the “Synagogue of satan” (rev3:9) an Jerusalem will be declared “Sodom and Egypt”… having as a Nation lost the ‘spirit’ of Abraham, the first Hebrew/Jew, they revealed the exceedingly sinfulness of sin nature yet resident in a redeemed man and became a tool of this World’s system, in the ‘house’ of satan, to murder God’s appointed ones and proof up the point for all those who have hearts to perceive the truth; of the disclosed need (worthy of pursuit) in God’s salvation plan of not only a redeeming Atonement but a soul purging Atonement Savior with provision to bring the loving obedient saved into Union with Him.
The persecution by Israel on Christ’s disciples was based upon their limited understanding and not recognizing the very first basic of the Law of Moses; that it was not given to ‘save’ but to condemn. And so in willful presumptuous self-righteousness they persecuted anyone who was named among them, who ‘resisted’ obedience to the Law of Moses, were deserving to be put to death.
Today’s World religious and secular systems, in much of the World, has successfully pushed a god of universality of all ideas, religions, who is accepting of all, and vehemently hates anyone who declares God’s judgments are coming on those who persist to follow this Worlds evil doers (some of the most vocal haters of those who preach the Truth of Scripture are------

To reiterate, the overall theme of the Bible throughout, from Genesis to Revelation, is God’s story of His intent to set up in this World’s realm a Theocratic Government through holy mankind. This is the meaning or backdrop behind all of the Kingdom/Empire references throughout Scripture. Besides the great ignorance of the Church on what the Kingdom is and when it will come, there is the ignorance of the offering and Postponement of the Kingdom. These are most needed understandings. Knowing that the Gospel given by John answers to God’s Kingdom Call, we pause for a moment and review its significance.
God’s Kingdom call in this world for a Theocratic Government is first manifest with the creation of Man. After the failing of Adam, God had a plan that not only answered to Adam’s fall, but to the previous fall of Lucifer. His plan was to have a People who would replace the existing satanic government which now is, and which came about as a result of Adam’s surrender of authority. God chose a people from the seed of Abraham to realize His Kingdom and Government, Abraham being to whom God gave the irrevocable promise, and then again to King David to his seed, that He would finally realize His Kingdom of ruling priests through and possess the gate of his enemy. (Genesis 22, Psalm 132:11) Because of their seeds’ persistence in unbelief, God finally took from them their appointed authority in the Earth in measured judgment, and gave it to the Gentiles, and sent Israel into captivity for a specified time under the authority of the Gentile King of Babylon; Nebuchadnezzar. A judgment from which they have never yet recovered God’s Kingdom authority in the Earth. It had been lost and perpetuated then to succeeding heathen Gentile Empires. Although they were historically partially restored back to the Land of promise; they have never again obtained God’s Kingdom authority. The Jews being back in the Land, but under the rule of the Roman Empire 2000 years ago at the time of Jesus First Coming. Old Testament prophets testify to Israel being once again and forever established as His Theocratic Government in the World (King David and his Kingdom being Scriptures typical example of God’s intent).
“But when the fullness of time (according to the prophecy given to Daniel 9:24-25) come, God sent His Son…” [Galatians 4:4] Jesus was the incarnated Son, being then the prophesied Seed of Abraham and David; anointed of the Father without measure with the Holy Spirit and appointed as the King of Israel and thereby to be King over all Gentile Nations, to establish God’s Theocratic Government in this Earth.
The Gospel by John the Apostle was written some time after the Resurrection of Jesus, and it set before the Jews first, and by extension in time to us Christians, the ‘signs’ accompanying Jesus the Son of God and Son of Man in the Power of the Hoy Spirit. These signs were written in order to validate Him as God’s Sent One to the Jews and lead Israel into repentance and restoration in further realization of the Kingdom with His Theocratic Government in this World, to be a Nation of priests ruling in the Name of God. Christ being to Whom He gave the Anointing and all authority to Baptize them in the Holy Spirit in order to sanctify Israel upon their acceptance of Him as their Messiah and repentance for centuries of unbelief and fulfill the necessary call to holiness upon them.
And so it was, that the Messiah manifest in the exact time Daniel had prophesied, as that time of the restored Kingdom had drawn nigh. The restored Theocratic Government was the emphasis behind Christ’s instructive prayer to His early Jewish disciples: “Our Father, which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom Come. Thy will be done in earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not in to temptation, but deliver us from evil (the evil one): For thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.”
It was with this calling in view (the Promised Kingdom) that Jesus cried out to the Jews in the Temple on the Great Day of the Feast… “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his (His actually refers to Jesus) belly shall flow rivers of living water.” [John 7:37] God doesn’t call the unsaved, but the saved to His Theocratic Government. For Israel had already been saved/justified by the blood of the Passover lambs. Therefore, He was.....

Two things seem important to cover first in this Passage of John the Apostle:
1) the prophetic time table… from a literal application, as opposed to the more typical application we discussed in the last lesson discovered in the Feast of Tabernacles
2) the Baptism of the Holy Spirit as it relates to the Jew (being that it can be seen from Genesis to Revelation that God’s intent was to baptize the Jews with the Holy Spirit).
What Christ loudly declared on that Last Great Day of the Feast of Tabernacles in the first place and final place has to do with what the prophets declare about Israel and their Messiah. Christians have for the most part only related this ‘declaration’ of Christ as to having meaning primarily applicable to themselves, in one of about a half dozen ways and being very limited in view, due to the lack of understanding of the overall Salvation Plan of God that must take all Scripture from Genesis to Revelation into account for Truth.
The ritual practiced by the Jews at the Time of Christ seems to be the catalyst for Jesus’ standing and loud proclamation of Himself. The ritual consisted of a priest taking an empty Golden chalice/vessel that would hold 2 pints or so and carrying it in happy procession down to the pool of Siloam, where it was filled and then brought back up with rejoicing to the Altar and poured out along with a wine offering together in conjunction with the Morning Sacrifice Service. This was followed by the reading of the ‘Hallel’ consisting of the 113th through 118th Psalms. This is thought to be Typical of the Wilderness experience. Typical of the blessing of water, agriculturally speaking, and Typical of the Messiah and His bringing the blessings of God. Some Rabbis taught the ritual was representative of the Messiah in His Day Who will pour out gifts of the Holy Spirit. Isaiah 12:3 being the main Passage given that was to legitimize the ritual.
The people now have moved back into their houses. The booths had been torn down. It was on the last Great Day of the Feast, the Eighth Day, when Jesus cried out. After which the Jews no doubt in amazement reasoned and argued among themselves… ‘He is the Prophet promised by God.’ Others said, ‘He is the Messiah.’ Others argued ignorantly, ‘He could not be the Messiah; the Messiah must be of the seed of David and be born in Bethlehem.’ Some thought He was a deceiver of the people and would have taken Him…but no man laid hands on Him. “Never man spake like this man!” (Verse 46)
VERSE 28-36 “Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not. But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me (He hath sent Me according to His Timetable prophetically revealed and Written in Moses, the Psalms, and the Prophets.
Galatians 4:4-5… “But when the fulness of the time (Written of in Scripture) was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.”) Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour (that hour in accordance with Written prophecy) was not yet come. And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done? (If it had not been for the fear and teachings of the Pharisees, Sadducees, and Herodian leaders, many would have been open to receive Jesus as their Messiah.) The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him. Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me. Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come. Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?”
Christ’s Words here strongly hinted to the Jews the soon coming woeful realities of prophecy that they… knewest not the time of thy visitation that their King had come in the time and manner prophesied. (Read Daniel 9:24&25, Zechariah 9:9, and Luke 19:30-40… “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression.....

John 7:1-2 “After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry (Judea), because the Jews (Leaders) sought to kill Him (as He was a threat to their institution). Now the Jews’ feast of tabernacles was at hand” (in calling it the Jews’ feast, John now separates himself from them, having greater understanding of who he is as part of the “New Man” which is neither Jew nor Gentile). The end of the previous Chapter 6 speaks of how all but 12 of the disciples left Him because of His “…hard saying…” of the necessity of eating His flesh and drinking His Blood. It being not hard to understand, but hard to receive given the Jewish leaders’ traditional religious teachings (note it is 100 times harder to Un-learn than to learn or relearn. This goes for not only the Jews, but for all us today who have religious thinking we have to unlearn). To these 12, Jesus turned and asked them if they would also go away? Peter answered, “…to whom should we go, thou hast the words of eternal life.” Jesus responds to them in John 6:70… “Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? (foreshadowing Judas’ future role in the End-Times - more on that later) He spake of Judas Iscariot (the name Iscariot meaning the hired one) the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him (in that the Jewish leaders were fearful to openly arrest Jesus, Judas sold them the place and time wherein they could safely accomplish their wicked purposes), being one of the twelve” (representative of God’s perfect governmental foundation). Noteworthy is it that Judas was most likely the only one out of the twelve that was from Judea. He is referred to by Christ as not only a ‘devil/slanderer/accuser’, but also later Jesus calls him the ‘son of perdition.’ [John 17:12]
The Lord stayed away from Jerusalem for there the Pharisees and the Chief Priests (verse 32) sought to kill Him due to His previous visit and actions when He healed the crippled man at the Pool of Bethesda on the Sabbath and told him to take up his mat and walk. This murderous spirit of Judas was discovered by our Lord as foretold by David in the Spirit centuries before as prophetically set forth in Psalms 41:9 and Psalm 109:1-20… “Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.” Psalm 109, verses 1-20 is a strong indictment and probably the worst curse spoken in all of scripture and is aimed prophetically towards Judas and a particular few… “Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise; For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue. They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause. For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer. And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love. Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand. When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin. Let his days be few; and let another take his office. (as when another was chosen to replace Judas’ office as one of the twelve after he committed suicide) Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow. Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places. Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour. Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children. Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out. Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the Lord; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out. Let them be before the Lord continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth. Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man (John records in John 12:6 that Judas’ reason for objecting to the expensive perfume being poured on Jesus’ feet was “not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.” This really shows forth his true character, and that he was someone who was easy prey for satan to enter. Is it not too hard to think that Satan could have offered Judas esteem, money, and power for him to betray Christ, just as when he offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the world?), that he might even slay the broken in heart. As he loved cursing, so let it come unto....
