A look into the Censorship Industrial Complex
Dr. Jay Bhattacharya recently spoke with Matt Kibbe about the Stanford Internet Observatory, one of a broad network of academic centers funded by the federal government that gives the appearance of legitimacy to what is really a fundamental attack on free speech.

Winner of Anthem Film Festival's highly-coveted Audience Choice Award. Off the Grid with Thomas Massie is an intimate look at a congressman’s quest for a self-sustainable life on his farm in eastern Kentucky. “My philosophy is live and let live: You don’t worry about what somebody’s doing in their holler, as long as they don’t worry about what you’re doing in your holler.”

Propaganda Is as Essential to War as Bullets
@RepThomasMassie explains that both sides of any military conflict essentially have no choice but to engage in widespread propaganda, and we have to account for that when trying to sort out what’s true and what isn’t.

Can the Deep State Be Dismantled? | Guests: Vivek Ramaswamy and Kyle Seraphin | Ep 233
The Deep State, that collection of unelected bureaucracies that run the government and maintain the status quo in spite of what the American people vote for, has been identified as one of the biggest threats to liberty and democracy faced by our country. Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy @vivek-2024 wants to dismantle it. But can it be done? At this year’s annual Porcupine Freedom Festival in New Hampshire, Matt Kibbe caught up with the presidential hopeful, as well as former FBI agent Kyle Seraphin, to find out what the chief executive can actually do to rein in D.C.’s alphabet soup agencies and restore accountability to the American government.

Kibbe on Liberty is a weekly podcast with libertarian author, economist, and community organizer Matt Kibbe. As the president of Free the People, Kibbe has decades of experience in the libertarian political sphere, but in these troubled times he believes that open dialogue is needed to bring people together. This means being willing to talk, and especially listen, to those with whom we might not always agree, trying to understand perspectives that might otherwise be foreign to us.
Kibbe on Liberty's growing roster of guests includes politicians, economists, comedians, writers, radio personalities, activists, journalists, and even a magician or two—with topics of conversation ranging from current affairs to craft beer and the Grateful Dead. Marijuana's Unfair Stigma
Even after many states, across the country, have legalized medical and recreational cannabis, there is still a stigma that is tied to its use.
If you think one person can’t make a difference, tell it to Joel Davis. Born with scoliosis and other physical challenges, grassroots activism gave Joel a new lease on life. Organizing tea parties, walking door-to-door and hammering yard signs, and testifying in favor of medical marijuana was just the beginning. Joel took the tools he learned as a citizen activist back to his hometown and began applying new skills to help fix problems in his local community. Using Facebook and knocking on every door in his precinct, he won a seat on the city counsel. He is now the new mayor of Paden City. The tools he used to succeed in politics are now the means of growing community involvement in local challenges, and creating new transparency in government service.
Still think one person can’t make a difference? Ask Joel how to get it done.

We Need a Participatory Health Policy | Guests: Jay Bhattacharya and John Ioannidis | Ep 194
Matt Kibbe is joined by Stanford University epidemiologists Jay Bhattacharya and John Ioannidis to discuss the interaction between science and health policy. The COVID-19 response was one-sided and dictated from the top down, which not only led to many disastrous policies, but also undermined the public trust in science and medicine as institutions. In the future, what is needed is a more humble approach to policy making that admits its own ignorance and allows the public more opportunities to participate in the decision-making process.

American Business Is About Free Expression | Guest: Jim Caruso | Ep 72
Brewer, entrepreneur, and Flying Dog CEO Jim Caruso sits down with Matt Kibbe at his brewery to talk about his passion for free speech and personal responsibility. Caruso points out that you can't separate your ethics from the way you run your business, and that's why he has fought so hard to protect the First Amendment and the right to express himself through the art of beer.

Lockdowns Threw 100 Million People into Poverty | Guest: Jay Battacharya | Ep 187
Matt Kibbe is joined by Dr. Jay Battacharya, professor of health policy at Stanford University, to talk about the continued hesitancy of the mainstream media and government scientists to acknowledge the immense harm caused by COVID lockdowns. As one of the authors of the “Great Barrington Declaration,” Dr. Battacharya has been subjected to a relentless smear campaign designed to discredit him, yet the evidence is clear to anyone willing to look: Not only did lockdowns throw millions into poverty, but they were made possible by the extremely dangerous gain-of-function research that allowed the virus to spread in the first place. The hostility toward lockdown skeptics is largely an attempt for those responsible for COVID to cover their tracks and shift the blame to others.

We Have to Choose Between Dangerous Freedom and Peaceful Slavery | Guest: JP Sears | Ep 138
Matt Kibbe sits down with comedian JP Sears (@AwakenWithJP) to talk about his evolution from a spiritual satirist to a champion of freedom. As the political landscape has shifted, JP saw his liberties legitimately threatened for the first time and was surprised to find how little the rest of his community cared. The generation that grew up with participation trophies has gotten used to never having to deal with discomfort, which leads them to expect someone else to solve all their problems. What they have to realize is that if you want to live free, it’s not always going to be safe or easy, whereas if you want to feel safe, it means giving up most of your personal autonomy.

Tracy Bone and Chief JD Anderson: Canada’s Crisis of Comfort and Consent | Ep 10
Tracy Bone is an Indigenous singer-songwriter from Winnipeg, Manitoba. She, along with a group of other indigenous peoples, participated in Canada’s Freedom Convoy—making music and blessing the protest day after day. This episode was recorded from the streets of Ottawa where she and Chief JD Anderson continue to drum and pray. Tracy has said: “We are not leaving until every man, woman, and child is guaranteed free.”
Tracy shares her journey of healing from sexual abuse and generational trauma. She relates it to the exchanging of stories at the Freedom Convoy about revering bodily autonomy, honoring informed consent, and healing from the abuse of power, and then she invites Chief JD to share his insights on why the key to liberating Canadians is making sure that human rights are extended to people who have been marginalized, including the true natives of the land.
Tracy Bone (Anishinaabe, Saskiso “Ignites The Fire”) comes from the Keeseekoowenin Ojibway Nation (Father’s side) and the Brokenhead Ojibway Nation (Mother’s side). Chief JD Anderson Okima (“Blue Rattle Buffalo Man”) comes from the Keeseekoowenin Ojibway Nation (Mother’s side) and Rolling River First Nation (Father’s side).

When Artists Aren't Allowed to Think | Guest: Clifton Duncan | Ep 223
The world of the arts is one in which creativity and original thinking should be valued above all else. But in fact, it's one of the industries that most enforces conformity and obedience. Matt Kibbe is joined by Clifton Duncan, a classically trained theater and television actor who found this out to his cost. When he refused to get the COVID-19 vaccine, he found his thriving career suddenly grinding to a halt, as managers, agents, and casting directors shunned him for failing to toe the party line. Duncan talks about the culture of the New York theater scene, the inability of free thinkers to speak out, and his new documentary, "Follow the Science," which exposes the muddled thinking, or lack thereof, behind the uniformity of opinion surrounding COVID lockdown policies.

Free Speech on Campus Is Under Assault | Guest: Greg Lukianoff | Ep 257
Following a series of highly visible (and highly embarrassing) congressional hearings with the heads of major universities, the debate over what speech should be permitted on college campuses has reignited. Matt Kibbe sits down with Greg Lukianoff, president and CEO of @TheFIREorg and author of "The Cancelling of the American Mind," to discuss cancel culture and the hypocrisy of college administrators who are fine with allowing vocal anti-Semitism while also maintaining a “speech is violence” attitude toward more conservative opinions.

What is Libertarian Paganism? w/ Logan Albright and Devin Rogers
Logan Albright, head writer at Free the People, and Devin Rogers discuss Libertarian Paganism, what it is, and how the two ideas intertwine. Libertarian Paganism posits that there is a fundamental sympathy between these two apparently unrelated belief systems, and that a set of shared values might attract politically homeless pagans to libertarianism, or spiritually homeless libertarians to paganism. These values include respect for the individual, the importance of consent, the freedom to express views which are out of the mainstream, tolerance and inclusion, and a healthy skepticism towards the powerful.

Is Voting For Fiscal Responsibility “Antisemitic”? | Guest: Rep. Thomas Massie | Ep 256
Israel is the new Ukraine! As Congress shifts its interest from funding a war against Russia to funding a war against Hamas, there are few people in Washington willing to push back against reckless spending, even though our own national debt is spiraling out of control. Thomas Massie is one such voice, although his principled commitment to fiscal responsibility has earned him plenty of animosity, including but not limited to accusations of antisemitism. He sits down with Matt Kibbe to defend his votes, and highlight how America’s overspending is the greatest threat to our own national security.

So grab a cold one, and settle in for the next hour of Kibbe on Liberty, mostly honest conversations with mostly interesting people.

Free the People’s mission is simple—to make the values of liberty entertaining, accessible, and human. Free the People deliberately explores issues that bridge the partisan divide—topics like criminal justice reform, health care choice, and opposing corporate cronyism. We produce documentary films, video web series, and podcasts that illuminate the people and ideas changing the world for the better. We reach audiences across the political spectrum as a rational but passionate voice for liberty.
Free the People specializes in video production, creative storytelling, and social media engagement. We are building a community of people who believe in the values of freedom, entrepreneurship, individual responsibility, choice, and peaceful cooperation. Free the People finds and tells stories of people affecting positive change in their community through entrepreneurship and innovation. We defend free choice in everything from drug policy, to health care and retirement, to every aspect of the sharing economy. Our values, like "equal treatment under the law" and "innocent until proven guilty," animate fights for criminal justice reform. We tell the stories of people who have lived through the hardships of authoritarianism and collectivism throughout history. We show our viewers that beautiful things can happen when free people come together to make the world a better place.

The Patriot Act is Un-American
Like so many government policies, the Patriot Act is a shell game, promising to protect us from enemies abroad but instead being turned inward to persecute American citizens.

The Cure for Critical Theory is Liberalism
Critical theory and postmodern thought are quickly taking over our schools, workplaces, and governments. With the election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, we can expect to see even more of these policies integrated into our government. Why does this matter? It matters because this way of thinking has the power to undo the tremendous progress that we have already made as a society. So this Thanksgiving, let’s reject these toxic ideas of critical theory. Let’s instead be grateful for the ideas of liberalism—of individual liberty, equality of opportunity, free and open inquiry, and free speech and debate. Sam Martin, creative director at Free the People, breaks it all down in the latest episode of The Cult of Wokeness.

Are Vaccine Mandates Constitutional? | Guest: Jenin Younes | Ep 156
Matt Kibbe is joined by Jenin Younes, litigation counsel for the New Civil Liberties Alliance, to discuss the imminent Supreme Court decision on whether OSHA can legally mandate that workers take the COVID-19 vaccine. From a constitutional standpoint, the answer seems obvious, but unfortunately the Court has shown that it is not immune to the propaganda perpetuated by government agencies and the media operating on their behalf. As it becomes more and more difficult to obtain unbiased health care information and the public loses trust in the medical establishment, proposals such as the mandatory vaccination of children become increasingly troubling. But will the Court agree?
