Historic John Anthony West Speech
An Atlantis Rising exclusive!
A few years ago, during a late summer weekend, some of today’s most provocative scientists, writers and researchers gathered on the banks of the Yellowstone river to consider evidence for and against impending Earth changes.
In very funny remarks at the Earth Changes 2000 conference, the late John Anthony West told the story of his battle with mainstream Egyptology over the true age of the Great Sphinx, as proven by water weathering. The audience loved it.
The maverick Egyptologist and author of Serpent in the Sky, offered unique insights into the hopeful meaning of ancient myths of death and resurrection as expressed in symbolist egyptology. West also took on the establishment over his case for a much more ancient Egyptian order than is acknowledged by academia.

The late Zecharia Sitchin was author of the Earth Chronicles series, including the Twelfth Planet and many other books. He was famous for his theory that human origins on Earth resulted from intervention by advanced extraterrestrial beings, identified in ancient Sumerian cuneiform texts as the Anunnaki. His books sold many millions, and have been translated into at least 25 languages. In 1996 he spent some time in a New York studio answering questions from Atlantis Rising Magazine.

The Discovery of Planet X - Atlantis Rising Magazine
Visit Atlantis Rising Research Group at https://www.atlantisrising.com/
As recently as our March/April issue, Atlantis Rising reported on new claims for the discovery of a long-sought ninth planet in the solar system (with Pluto now excluded, eight remain, officially speaking). The existence of the legendary body, often referred to as “Planet X,” has long been dismissed as strictly imaginary, but detractors, it turns out, may have spoken too soon.
In his 1975 best-selling book, The Twelfth Planet, and its many sequels (as we reported in A.R., #116 “Planet X or Not?), the late researcher Zecharia Sitchin claimed he had decoded from the ancient cuneiform tablets of Sumeria, the story of a mysterious rogue planet which periodically (every 3600 years) approached the vicinity of Earth. Named ‘Nibiru’, the planet was populated, said Sitchin, by a powerful, technologically advanced race of giants known as the Anunnaki, which intervened forcefully in the affairs of Earth, accounting—Sitchin believed—for many of the anomalies of our ancient history. Ever since publication of The Twelfth Planet, legions of Sitchin acolytes have searched in vain for scientific evidence for the existence of ‘Planet X’.
Arguments over the possibility of another planet beyond the orbit of Neptune have raged since long before Sitchin, but nothing conclusive has ever appeared. Then, in December 2015, fresh scientific news on the subject emerged with the release of two Swedish papers to the website for the Journal of Astronomy of Astrophysics. The new findings soon rekindled the long-simmering debate and generated headlines around the world. The Swedes claimed to have spotted a new, relatively large, body out in the neighborhood of Pluto. Astronomer Wouter Vlemmings at Chalmers University of Technology, co-author of both studies, reported observation of an object moving against background stars, which was then dubbed Gna, after a swift Nordic deity who delivers messages for Frigg, the goddess of wisdom.
Unfortunately, or so it seemed at the time for Planet X believers, both papers were immediately dismissed by the astronomical establishment. The object reported, it was thought, might possibly be a large asteroid. Nevertheless, further analysis remained to be done, so the file—at least in theory—stayed open. The big news came in January, after Atlantis Rising’s March/April issue had already gone to press. “The solar system appears to have a new ninth planet,” trumpeted the prestigious magazine Science. A new study from two “respected planetary scientists” was making the case this time. According to Konstantin Batygin and Mike Brown of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena, as published in The Astronomical Journal, this discovery is different from all the previously claimed Planet X findings. “We believe it enough,” says Brown, “where we’re willing to write a paper and stand up and say, ‘Yes. For the past century everybody who said there was a Planet X is crazy. And they were all wrong. But we’re right.’”
Brown got his first clue to his current conclusions in 2003, when he led a team that found Sedna, an object slightly smaller than both Eris and Pluto. Sedna’s odd, far-flung orbit made it, then, the most distant known object in the solar system. Its perihelion, or closest point to the sun, lay at 76 AU (Astronomical Unit—the distance from the Earth to the Sun), beyond the Kuiper belt and far outside the influence of Neptune’s gravity. The implication was clear: Something massive, well beyond Neptune, must have pulled Sedna into its distant orbit.
Not everyone is convinced that a new planet has been found. In a January edition of Atlantic magazine, Science writer Thomas Levenson says, “There aren’t any obvious errors in Batygin and Brown’s gravitational argument, but nature has plenty of ways to fool astronomers into seeing planets where there are none. Any mass exerts (as Newton saw it) a pull on everything else, and Newton’s universal law of gravitation describes how strong that tug will be, and what motion would result. In the case of Neptune and, presumptively, Planet Nine, undiscovered objects reveal themselves in the unexplained residues of motion of what’s already been observed, once all the known gravitational influences have been tallied up.”
As for the folks at NASA… Though they admit they’re excited by the possibility of a new planetary discovery, caution still reigns. “The idea of a new planet is certainly an exciting one,” NASA’s director of planetary science, Jim Green, told the Christian Science Monitor, but he qualified, “It’s too early to say with certainty that there is a so-called ‘Planet X’ out there.”

Mega-Engineering in the Stars? By Dr. Robert Schoch Atlantis Rising Magazine

To say that Earth’s moon is ‘strange’ is an understatement. In fact, the more we learn about our glowing satellite, the stranger and more mysterious it becomes. Relative to the size of the planet it orbits, Earth, it is the largest moon in the Solar System. It is the second densest, after Jupiter’s Io. Moreover, our moon is in synchronous rotation around Earth, meaning that it always presents the same face to us. Prior to the space program, the far side was often referred to as the “dark side,” not because it is dark (any spot on our Moon, save for the polar regions, experiences roughly two weeks of daylight, alternating with about two weeks of night) but because we never see it.
The average density of the Moon is 3.344 grams per cubic centimeter, about 60 percent of Earth’s, which means it is not an artificial, hollow spaceship as some have believed, although there may well be vast caverns in its crust, including lava tubes dwarfing those on Earth (see sidebar). NASA is already considering the astronaut housing possibilities in such immense spaces beneath the surface. These natural caverns have roofs estimated to be tens of meters thick, which would provide protection from the extreme conditions existing above the surface. The habitat would be protected from solar radiation, micro-meteorites, extreme temperature fluctuations—believed to be stable in lava tubes—as well as winds, and regolith dust storms that could threaten human health and technology. These naturally occurring shelters would also reduce the landed payload mass for manned missions and save on the costs of any mining. More on lava tubes later.
The Moon’s relatively low density means that it has fewer heavy elements than Earth, a slightly different chemical composition. But within each element, like oxygen or iron, there are certain ratios of different isotopes, chemically the same but with different numbers of neutrons in their atomic nuclei. The Moon’s isotope ratios are slightly different than those on Earth, making it possible to identify meteorites of lunar origin, presumably blasted off the Moon by asteroid impacts and found on Earth in places like Antarctica, where they are easy to spot and where we also find meteorites from Mars, with a much different isotope ratio.
The Moon’s formation is a mystery yet to be solved. If Earth and Moon had formed from the same accretion disk, they would have a near identical mix of elements and hence a near identical density, but they don’t. Furthermore, the Earth/Moon system has too much angular momentum to have been formed this way. The Moon orbits Earth west to east (the way the Earth turns on its axis) at just 5.14 degrees off our ecliptic—a plane passing through Earth’s equator. Astronomers believe that the odds against Earth capturing a satellite like the Moon are, well, astronomical. For it to be in its west-to-east equatorial orbit as well, though, is just about impossible.

Mega-Engineering in the Stars? By Dr. Robert Schoch
Over a thousand years ago, while European civilization stagnated during the Dark Ages, did a race of advanced extraterrestrials in a distant part of our galaxy build a huge energy-capturing mega structure around their sun? This may be the story behind an anomalous star known to astronomers as KIC 8462852 (KIC = Kepler Input Catalog of the Kepler space observatory). Informally dubbed “Tabby’s Star,” “Boyajian’s Star” (Tabetha S. Boyajian spearheaded initial analyses of the star), and “WTF Star” (after the title of the paper authored by Boyajian, et al., 2015 [revised 2016], “Planet Hunters X. KIC 8462852 – Where’s the Flux?”, arXiv), this mysterious object continues to elude a satisfactory and wholly convincing “natural” explanation.
Launched in March 2009, the Kepler space observatory was designed to survey the Milky Way searching for exoplanets (planets orbiting around stars other than our Sun). Despite some setbacks, Kepler has been extraordinarily successful in its mission; thousands of exoplanets have been discovered. Extrapolating from the data thus far, possibly our Milky Way Galaxy contains tens of billions of Earth-size planets orbiting stars within habitable zones.
The primary method of detecting such exoplanets is by the periodic dimming of a star as an orbiting exoplanet crosses in front, blocking light. Kepler can continuously monitor approximately 150,000 stars. This brings us to the strangeness of KIC 8462852.
KIC 8462852 has dimmed and then brightened again on numerous occasions, but not in the systematic way that a star typically dims due to an orbiting planet or planets. The dimming, the dips in brightness detected coming from KIC 8462852, occur in a manner that appears random. For instance, after hundreds of days of relative stability, the star dimmed by 15% over several days. Then, after having come back to approximately its original brightness, about 725 or so days later, the star suddenly dimmed by 22% over just a few days, subsequently returning to its previous brightness. Three weeks later, it dimmed by 3% or so. After returning to its previous brightness, not quite a month later it dimmed by 8% for a few days, only to return to its previous brightness once again. To put these levels of dimming into perspective, if our Sun were being observed by an observatory on a distant planet, as Jupiter crossed, the dimming effect would only amount to about 1%.
“Citizen scientists” participating in the “Planet Hunters” project discovered KIC 8462852 collectively. These volunteers sifted through data from Kepler looking for patterns potentially indicative of planets orbiting stars, as well as other interesting or unusual phenomena. Tabetha Boyajian, then a postdoc researcher at Yale University (currently on the faculty of Louisiana State University) was overseeing the Planet Hunters when various participants noticed the strangeness of KIC 8462852. Boyajian became the lead author (along with 48 co-authors) on the initial paper that brought KIC 8462852 to the attention of the general astronomical community and to the world at large.
Other than its odd behavior, KIC 8462852 is not a remarkable star; in fact, it is a rather ordinary F-type main sequence star (our Sun is a G-type main sequence star; stars are classified based on factors such as surface temperature—F-type stars are slightly hotter than G-type stars). Located in the region of the constellation Cygnus at a distance of around 1200 to 1500 light-years from us (estimates vary), KIC 8462852 has an apparent magnitude of about 11 or 12 (far too dim to be seen with the naked eye), an estimated radius of 1.6 times that of our Sun and a mass of about 1.4 times that of our Sun.
Once brought to the awareness of the scientific community, other astronomers began studying KIC 8462852 from different perspectives. Although KIC 8462852 cannot be seen with the naked eye, it has been viewed through telescopes, and photographed, since the late nineteenth century. Analyzing old records and photographic plates, Bradley Schaefer (Louisiana State University) determined that it had dimmed by about 20% in overall brightness during the century from 1890 to 1989. But could this incredibly strange dimming be nothing more than an artifact of the diverse instrumentation used to photograph the star? Despite Schaefer’s careful work, there were doubts. However, using Kepler space observatory data collected from 2009 to 2013, Benjamin Montet (California Institute of Technology and the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics) and Joshua Simon (Observatories of the Carnegie Institution of Washington) found that KIC 8462852 had dimmed by about 3% overall during this period, with 2% to 2.5% of the dimming occurring during an approximately 200-day stretch.

For it to be in its west-to-east equatorial orbit as well, though, is just about impossible.
The latest theory to explain the Moon postulates that a Mars-sized object collided with the young Earth after our planet’s nickel-iron core had formed and blasted a mass of our crust and mantle into orbit, where the material gradually cooled and accreted to form the Moon. It turns out, however, that the Moon’s crust on the side facing us is thinner than on the “dark” side, so astronomers have revised the theory and suggested that two satellites formed, and the smaller of the two collided at a low relative velocity with the larger, producing a thicker crust on one side and, as the Moon became tide-locked in synchronous rotation, that side happened to be the far side. But the velocities and angles would have had to be just right, making this formation theory about as improbable as the capture of a satellite. In addition, lava deposits on the Moon contain too much water, and the collision would have boiled off Earth’s water and the Moon’s, as well. Some suggest that the greater thickness of the crust on the far side may be due to more in-falling meteorites and space dust. Since the Moon has been in synchronous rotation for an estimated 3.8 billion years, Earth would likely block much of the material coming in from our side.

Solar Catastrophe Did An Outburst End the Last Ice Age and Destroy a Forgotten Civilization?
Visit Atlantis Rising Research Group at https://www.atlantisrising.com/
By Robert M. Schoch, Ph.D.
The conventional status quo view is that true civilization and high culture dates back to the period of approximately 3500 BC to 3000 BC in Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the Indus region. In the early 1990s, my work on the Great Sphinx of Egypt broke this barrier when I demonstrated, using geological data, that the great statue’s origins go back thousands of years earlier than previously believed. Egyptologists had dated the Sphinx to the Fourth Dynasty, circa 2500 BC. Initially I “conservatively” (although not so conservative according to my critics) suggested that the core body of the Sphinx dates back to 5000 BC or a bit earlier. Over the years, as I continued my studies and collected more data, I slowly revised my estimate, considering progressively earlier possible dates for the statue. I am now more comfortable considering the notion that possibly the Sphinx’s earliest origins go back 10,000 years or more, perhaps even to the period of circa 10,000 BC to 9,000 BC; that is, the end of the last Ice Age.
For many years one of the harshest criticisms of the re-dating of the Great Sphinx was that it apparently stood in grand isolation at such a remote period in time. The people who carved it must have been extremely sophisticated culturally and technologically. They were civilized. But where was corroborative evidence of such sophistication, of true civilization, at such an early time? Recently such evidence has been found not in Egypt, but in southeastern Turkey at a site known as Göbekli Tepe. Here immense finely carved, T-shaped, limestone pillars, many in the range of two to five and one-half meters tall and weighing up to an estimated ten to fifteen tons, form Stonehenge-like circles. Various pillars at Göbekli Tepe are decorated with bas-reliefs of animals, including foxes, boars, snakes, aurochs (wild cattle), birds, and arthropods (a scorpion, ants, and/or spiders). The level of sophistication seen at Göbekli Tepe clearly, in my opinion, indicates that a true civilization existed here. What is really amazing, and confirms my work on the re-dating of the Great Sphinx, is the age of Göbekli Tepe. Based on radiocarbon techniques and geological studies, the site dates back an astounding 12,000 to 10,000 years ago.
Four of the circles at Göbekli Tepe were aligned to the region of the sky containing Orion, Taurus, and the Pleiades on the morning of the Vernal Equinox. Due to precession of the equinoxes, such orientations change over time, with the entire cycle taking close to 26,000 years. The builders of Göbekli Tepe took such changes into account, reorienting their structures between the years 10,000 BC to 8000 BC, indicative of an added level of sophistication: a scientific orientation. Then suddenly circa 8000 BC, the people of Göbekli Tepe disappeared, but first they intentionally buried the site! Why? Were they attempting to protect the site, either so that they might some day return, or so that it would be preserved for future generations?
With my re-dating of the Great Sphinx and the early date of Göbekli Tepe, we now have clear evidence of sophisticated culture and civilization circa 10,000 BC to 8000 BC. But then this forgotten civilization disappears! There is a decline and hiatus for thousands of years, until the rise once again of civilization in Mesopotamia, Egypt, and elsewhere circa 3500 BC to 3000 BC.
What happened?
In order to explain the demise of this forgotten civilization, represented by the original Sphinx and Göbekli Tepe, we need to turn to geology. The early forgotten civilization collapsed during the end of the last Ice Age when Earth experienced dramatic cataclysmic changes. Something very sudden and very unusual took place, unlike anything we have experienced since. The peoples and cultures of that remote time were utterly devastated. Knowledge was lost, order devolved to chaos, and a dark age lasting thousands of years ensued.
The end of the last Ice Age was not simply a matter of the climate warming and glaciers melting. Earth experienced a series of climatic fluctuations. It had been extremely cold, with continental glaciers extending much further than they do today, but the climate started to warm. However, temperatures reverted back, and there was a short cold spell, known as the Younger Dryas, before the final warming and the official end of the last Ice Age. Studying Greenland ice core data, scientists have determined that the Younger Dryas began and ended very abruptly. Its start dates to circa 10,900 BC, and its ending (the final warming) began circa 9700 BC and may have occurred within an incredible three years; given our inability to resolve the finest details of something that happened so long ago, it may have literally happened overnight.

Shipping Out to Mars - Philadelphia Experiment and Invisibility - Atlantis Rising Magazine
Visit Atlantis Rising Research Group at https://www.atlantisrising.com/
Atlantis Rising magazine has long sought to unearth and discuss what some have gone to extremes to conceal and which most—having been carefully kept ignorant of the most fundamental awarenesses and scientific discoveries—couldn’t even imagine. Now a plan’s afoot to get the American public to fork out over a trillion dollars to send a manned mission to Mars, using conventional propulsion technology no less. Right?
Suppose we’ve not only already sent people to Mars, but it has become routine? What if no rockets were needed? What if the technologies presented to us as science fiction in the old TV series, Time Tunnel, and Stargate SG-1 and spinoffs are in fact real and have been in use for decades?
What follows draws upon a series of accounts to set forth a truly astonishing scenario of a scientific breakthrough so staggering in its import and sweep as to richly merit the characterization “epoch making.” And the scientists reportedly involved are giants in their own right: Tesla, Einstein, and Von Neumann—to name but three.
Foggy, Foggy Philadelphia
Our story begins in a sense (has many beginnings in truth) in the dark days of World War II as the U.S. mounts a desperate search for ways to overcome a shipping loss rate so severe that sinkings are outpacing the building of replacement ships. The Battle of the Atlantic is in full cry, the Allies are losing, and Great Britain is on the verge of being starved out of the war, being critically dependent on outside shipments not just for war materiel but also food.
The best brains in the country convene under the aegis of Princeton’s Institute for Advanced Studies to seek a breakthrough technical solution in the farthest reaches of mathematics, physics, and electromagnetics. The result? According to some insiders, the Philadelphia Experiment (technically Project Rainbow), a successful demonstration, although with multiple fatalities, of ship invisibility and inadvertent teleportation. According to the U.S. Navy on its official web site, nothing happened, and the whole thing is a myth. There sure are some strange things going on if it’s just a myth, though. Why, for example, did the U.S. government completely block the U.S. showing of the Thorn-EMI film, “The Philadelphia Experiment,” for three years? Why did one of the key people in the film’s creation choose to remain uncredited? Why did the producer of a Philadelphia Experiment episode of A&E’s former program “The Unexplained” reportedly flatly refuse to let part of a segment, which demonstrated optical invisibility be shown? Why were certain Tesla videos also kept out of the U.S. for years? What is it we’re not supposed to know?
Project Rainbow—a Short Course
The basic concept was that the juxtaposition of powerful rotating electromagnetic fields (created by generators running demagnetizing coils normally used to protect ships against German magnetically triggered mines) and microwaves (from reworked radar transmitters) would dimensionally shift the vessel just far enough out of this set of Space-Time references as to be optically invisible. This was all that was needed, since the German U-Boats had no radar and couldn’t torpedo what they couldn’t see.
The story goes that Tesla spearheaded the initial development work, with planned installation aboard a battleship, to allow plenty of room for customarily bulky, crude prototype equipment, but resigned in dismay after Navy officials refused to heed his warning that while the ship would indeed become invisible, the crew would be in mortal jeopardy. Enter Von Neumann, mathematical genius and the father of cybernetics. He takes over Tesla’s role, and the project goes forward. Tesla’s precipitous departure is bad enough, but a much worse blow is the diversion of the planned test bed vessel to combat. The replacement ship is a tiny destroyer escort, the DE-143 U.S.S. Eldridge, aboard which there is so little space that much of the interior is gutted, certain weapons are removed, and lots of the equipment which used to be on the battleship has to be installed dockside.
Work proceeds at breakneck speed until one fateful day of testing arrives in 1943, with results, or a lack thereof, hotly debated to this day. What is known, though, is that the Ship’s Log, the primary record of every happening of importance aboard the ship from initial commissioning to decommissioning, is missing the log pages covering precisely the dates in which some claim the ship was used for Project Rainbow. Mutilating a logbook is a serious offense, yet no one was ever brought to brook for it. Why?

Bahamas Settled Earlier than Once Thought - Atlantis Rising Research News Group Blog

From the Atlantis Rising Research Group News Blog
Debate over the earliest human settlement in the Bahamas is getting an update. Archaeologists from Texas A&M University at Galveston now assert that the area was colonized far sooner than we have been taught. In a new study published in PNAS (Proceeding of the National Academy of Sciences), professor Peter van Hengstum, reports that environmental records from 120-foot deep ‘Blackwood Sinkhole,’ filled with pristine organic material, show that well before dates previously claimed, the area was populated by an indigenous group now called Lucayans.
The new study appears to buttress findings by researchers Drs. Greg and Lora Little, and reported in Atlantis Rising Magazine #98 (March/April, 2013). Massive quarried stone ruins about 30 miles south of Bimini were reported at the time by the Littles. Dubbed “Brown’s Ruins” (named for Eslie and Krista Brown, the divers who found it) the site aroused considerable speculation in some quarters that it might be a relic of Atlantis. Atlantean or not, the anomalous features and the clearly artificial character of the site made it difficult to explain in standard academic terms.
The Little’s were searching for evidence to support claims by both Plato and Edgar Cayce, and over the years they have produced many examples to support their belief in the existence of ancient civilization in an area beneath theancient water for at least 10,000 years ago. Their discoveries have been documented on the History Channel.
In “Brown’s Ruins” they were investigating a site under water for at least 6000 years, and that has no documentable history of indigenous population. According to the conventional time-line, the area was not settled until about AD 500 to 700. Atlantis was said to have sunk around 9500 BC.
The Bahamas, says Van Hengstum, was the last place settled in the area. Fourteen thousand years ago, at the end of the last ice age people were present in the area, but until recently, it was thought, they did not cross the Florida Straits before AD 700. Now the research at Blackwood Sinkhole has turned up probable Lucayan skeletons and fire pit evidence dating to AD 1200 to 1300.
In the meantime discoveries like those at Brown’s Ruins continue to go virtually unnoticed.

Library of the Lost - Ivan the Terrible and the Lost Library
Ivan the Terrible’–or, for Russian traditionalists, “the Formidable” or “Fearsome”–earned his dubious reputation. Ivan IV Vasilyevich, the first self-termed ‘Tsar’ of Russia, the mentally unstable tyrant who ruled Russia from 1533 to 1547, led the motherland into costly wars, murdered his own son, and, five centuries later, attracted the admiration of another Russian mass murderer Josef Stalin, but despite centuries of digging, one of the great mysteries of Ivan the Terrible remains buried somewhere deep beneath the Kremlin.
The “Golden Library,” or Lost Library of the Moscow Tsars, was assembled by Grand Duke Ivan III (the Great), father of Ivan IV. Responsibility for its unexplained disappearance, however, is attributed to the son. In Atlantis Rising Magazine #66, writer Steven Sora told the story.
In the middle of the fifteenth century Constantinople was about to be invaded by the Asian hordes, and the greatest treasures of the city needed to be protected at all costs. Sophia Palaiologina, the emperor’s niece, was hastily married to the young Ivan III, soon to become ruler of Russia. Sophia’s entourage with the treasures of Byzantium, including Constantinople’s library, possibly the greatest outside the Vatican, would ultimately make it to Moscow via Rome. Chronicles still preserved in Moscow tell how one hundred carts of rare books struggled overland. Included were works from Asia, Africa and Europe in Hebrew, Arabic, Greek, Latin and Egyptian, with early editions of Pindar, Polybius, Tacitus and Cicero, the poems of Kalvos, the works of Virgil and “Lives of the Twelve Caesars” by Suetonius. Considered one-of-a-kind, many were hand written. Several hundred jewel encrusted volumes were intended as gifts for Emperors. The value of the collection, then and now, is beyond calculation.
One of Ivan III’s greatest achievements was beginning construction of the Kremlin. Under his direction the vaults of the “Liberia,” as the library came to be known, were built underground. Italian architect Ridolfo (Aristotle) di Fioravanti was given responsibility for constructing a hidden vault deep beneath the Kremlin. From here, it is believed, three hundred underground tributaries of the Muscovy River once flowed. The architect would close off such waterways and then line the walls with brick. To this day, no one knows just how many such rooms and tunnels exist within the labyrinth.
When Ivan IV ascended to the throne he began a ruthless assault on the Russian aristocracy known as the Boyars who he believed had mistreated and ignored him during his youth. To achieve his purposes, Ivan vastly expanded the subterranean city he had inherited. The labyrinth beneath the Kremlin now included secret prisons and torture chambers designed to break the power of the elite. After stripping the boyars of their wealth, Ivan turned his attention to the Russian population. The Massacre of Novgorad saw over thirty thousand Russians killed and the city nearly depopulated. He would beat his daughter-in-law until she miscarried and then kill his son who tried to stop him.
The reign of terror did not end until Ivan’s death. As Ivan had been losing his mind, Russia, distracted by other issues, had lost track of the library’s location, and it has not been recovered since. Some think that Peter the Great, over a century later, may have found and moved the library. But, as far as we know, the great maze beneath the Kremlin was too much even for Peter.
Stalin, it is said, wished to create one of the world’s greatest subway systems, and built upon the original Kremlin network. The massive tunneling of his Moscow subway, is still evident in seemingly endless escalators descending apparently to the very bowels of the earth. All excavations were executed with special care in hopes that one of the library’s secret rooms might be uncovered. No such rooms were ever found, however. Even a secret subway intended for the protection of rulers and generals never produced any Byzantines treasures.
In the 1960s Nikita Khruschev also pursued development of the subterranean domain beneath the Kremlin, extending the subway system and perhaps merging at lease some of its secret routes with the public metro. Khruschev too, it seems, dreamed of uncovering the famed library, and instructed project managers to take all necessary steps to locate and preserve with care the library of Ivan. But instructions notwithstanding, all the dictator’s men could not uncover what the Tzar’s men had covered.
Nearly five centuries after Ivan the Terrible, it is clear that the ability of tyrants to destroy great achievements, still does not translate into an ability to preserve them.

Invisible Warfare - can greater-than-human conflict overflow onto the human plane?

Can greater-than-human conflict overflow onto the human plane? Nineteenth century founder of the Theosophical Society Madame Helena P. Blavatsky was so bold as to assert such a thing in the ‘scientific’ age, whereas the ancients seem to have known it well. But could extraterrestrial warfare also engage on the nuclear level?
The post-war period has gradually brought to light numerous astounding technologies in possession of the Nazis during World War II—so advanced and unconventional that it is suspected by many that the Germans had access to extraterrestrial intelligence. No equivalent ‘Haunabu’ or ‘foo fighter’ technology has ever been uncovered to show that the Allies also possessed such exotic war machines, so the assumption has been that no such influence was aiding the Allied forces of WWII, who tasted victory nevertheless. Yet from the very beginning, at least one dissenting voice has alleged that the Allies also benefited from super-human aid in their battle against the colossus of Hitler’s Germany.
All through the war, the Tibetan master Djwal Khul (also called D.K.) was reported to communicate telepathically with Alice Bailey, a prominent twentieth century theosophist and founder of the Lucis Trust organization, keeping her apprised, often monthly, of the progress of the war as he saw it from his more exalted level. Djwal Khul had also been identified by Madame Blavatsky as a member of what she described as the “planetary hierarchy,” a higher-than-human organization operating in nonphysical dimensions. In WWII, this spiritual hierarchy, according to D.K., supported the Allied effort (other Tibetan mystics are alleged to have backed Germany). In our era of rapidly changing perceptions about our past, perhaps we ought to take a closer look at Khul’s statements about the Second World War, as related in Bailey’s book, The Externalization of the Hierarchy.
According to Bailey, the war really began in 1914, when the Germans suffered a bitter defeat. However, it was only in 1939 when the proper mix of belligerency together with the “immanence of the release of (atomic) energy” produced a climate where interested ETs saw an opportunity to reactivate the war. Khul communicated to Bailey late in the war that while initially a “high degree of tension” essential to their collaboration held the extraterrestrial forces and the Nazi leadership together, the latter collapsed as “war fatigue” led to “a steady deterioration of their minds, and then of their brains and nervous system.”
Perhaps for this reason, Hitler did not realize the intense interest his extraterrestrial sponsors had in developing atomic energy when he sacrificed the nuclear program in favor of the immediate rewards of rocketry. The above-human adversaries on both sides, according to Khul, were aware that a release of atomic energy would soon occur on the human plane, and each was keen to have the human capability to produce it under its control.
Scientists in the field were steadily working in this direction. Leo Szilard, a Hungarian physicist, on a visit to Princeton, learned in January 1939 from Niels Bohr that physicists in Germany had a month earlier “fissioned” the uranium atom. Szilard quickly recognized the potential of uranium as a weapon and sought initially to prevent his colleagues from publishing papers that would make this evident. However, German nuclear research had already moved into the military. In July 1939, Szilard and Einstein sent letters to President Roosevelt; Einstein urged a Uranium Committee be set up. At its first meeting in October 1939, under the urging of Szilard, the U.S. army made a modest grant of $6,000 for a nuclear reactor Szilard and Enrico Fermi hoped to construct. The critical grant money failed to arrive because Szilard and Fermi, refugees from Germany and Fascist Italy, had been denied security clearance as “enemy aliens.” After Einstein vouched for them, the money arrived in November 1939. Had Szilard and Fermi not been able to pursue their work on the nuclear reactor, a chain reaction would not have been achieved by December 1942, making a viable bomb by 1945 doubtful.

How Long Is Your Dog’s Lifespan? Atlantis Rising Research Group News Blog

A Princeton geneticist is seeking the keys to canine health and longevity.
Princeton researchers are leading the genetics work for the Dog Aging Project, which is studying tens of thousands of dogs over the course of their lives to develop a full picture of dog health and aging. Pictured is Koa, trained as a service dog for a Princeton senior thesis.
How old is your dog in human years? And what factors contribute to a long and healthy life for a dog?
For years, it’s been generally accepted that “dog years” are roughly human years times seven – that a 1-year-old puppy is like a 7-year-old child, and an 11-year-old elderly dog is like a 77-year-old senior citizen. But it’s actually much more complicated, say experts.
Part of the problem is that while humans have clear metrics for healthy aging, little is known about “normal aging” for our four-legged friends. Big dogs tend to age the fastest — maybe 10 times faster than humans — while little breeds may live to be 20 years old, with “dog years” about five times human years.
The Dog Aging Project, founded in 2018, is by far the most ambitious project tackling the question of canine longevity, enrolling and studying tens of thousands of dogs of all sizes, breeds and backgrounds to develop a thorough understanding of canine aging. Their open-source dataset will give veterinarians and scientists the tools to assess how well a specific dog is aging and will set the stage for further research into healthy aging — in both dogs and people.
The researchers detailed their project and its potential implications for both human and veterinary medicine in an article published in the current issue of the journal Nature. One of its most intriguing avenues of inquiry will analyze the DNA of exceptionally long-lived dogs, the “super-centenarians” of the dog world.
“This is a very large, ambitious, wildly interdisciplinary project that has the potential to be a powerful resource for the broader scientific community,” said Joshua Akey, a professor in Princeton’s Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics and a member of the Dog Aging Project’s research team. “Personally, I find this project exciting because I think it will improve dog, and ultimately, human health.”
Akey, a dog lover with a 5-year-old rescue dog named Abby and a 1-year-old purebred lab named Zoey, co-leads the genetics analyses with Elinor Karlsson at the Broad Institute.
“We are sequencing the genomes of 10,000 dogs,” Akey said. “This will be one of the largest genetics datasets ever produced for dogs, and it will be a powerful resource not only to understand the role of genetics in aging, but also to answer more fundamental questions about the evolutionary history and domestication of dogs.”
The Dog Aging Project (DAP) expects to run for at least 10 years. To date, more than 32,000 dogs have joined the “DAP Pack,” as the researchers call their canine citizen scientists.
“We are still recruiting dogs of all ages, all breeds — purebred or mixed breeds, all sizes, all across the United States,” said William Thistlethwaite, a graduate student who works with Akey in the Lewis-Sigler Institute. “Especially puppies and young dogs up to 3 years old.”
When a dog joins the Pack, their owners agree to fill out annual surveys and take measurements of their dogs for the duration of the project; some may be asked to collect cheek swabs for DNA sampling. In addition, the DAP team works with veterinarians across the country who assist by submitting fur, fecal, urine and blood samples of select Pack members.
The researchers hope to identify specific biomarkers of canine aging. They anticipate that their findings will translate to human aging, for several reasons: Dogs experience nearly every functional decline and disease of aging that people do; the extent of veterinary care parallels human healthcare in many ways; and our dogs share our lived environments, a major determinant of aging and one that cannot be replicated in any lab setting.

The Magic Mirrors of Dr. Dee - Atlantis Rising Research Group News Blog
By J. Douglas Kenyon
The secret of John Dee’s ‘spirit mirror’ has been revealed. Or not…
Intended for communication with ‘angels’–among other things–a volcanic obsidian black-glass mirror, made by Aztecs and brought to Europe after the Spanish conquest, was used by Queen Elizabeth I’s esteemed advisor in politics and magic, occultist John Dee. A new geochemical analysis in the journal Antiquity, while making no claims about the ‘angel’ part, now documents the authenticity of the strange artifact displayed in the British Museum. (https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/antiquity/article/mirror-the-magus-and-more-reflections-on-john-dees-obsidian-mirror/38D4BFEA2CB9766973791029C2EE1289)
The almost perfectly circular obsidian mirror, 7.2 inches in diameter, is polished on both sides. In a practice known as “scrying” (from “descrying”) or crystal-gazing, Aztec priests used such mirrors, it was said, to peer into the future. European scrying survived well into the Renaissance, but the Roman Catholic Church declared images appearing in crystal balls were the work of evil spirits, and condemned scrying as a “black art.” The church called its practitioners specularii—heretics—to be punished accordingly.
Anyone believing that the mysteries of Dr. Dee have thus been laid to rest, will be surprised to learn that the case of the legendary polymath/magus, and his many esoteric tools–including spirit mirrors–remains filled with anomalous revelations that can still leaved researchers perplexed and amazed.
In his book John Dee and the Empire of Angels (Inner Traditions, 2018), author Jason Louv documented communications that occurred between 1582 and 1589, involving Dee, his associate Edward Kelly, and ‘angelic’ beings. In an excerpt published in Atlantis Rising Magazine #132, Louv told how, “the angels explained the true origins of humanity, and delivered the original language spoken by mankind before the Fall.” Dee and his associate Kelly, an itinerant psychic, claimed that this language, along with a mathematically complex system for making further contact with the angels, was to be used by Dee and Kelly to advance the world toward the ‘Apocalypse’.
While such a story might today be dismissed as mere fantasy, in the sixteenth century it was anything but a fringe event, as evident in the outsized role that John Dee continued to play in history. Alchemist, magician, and Christian cabalist, Dee is credited with coining the term, ‘British Empire.’ So impressed by him was the Queen that she asked him to examine her astrology for the best time for her coronation. In a highly literate age, Dee’s scholarship was unparalleled. His home at Mortlake, indeed, contained more books than any private library in England, as well as a ‘magic mirror’ that, it was said, would astound all who dared look at their reflection.
According to writer Steven Sora in Atlantis Rising #81, Dee was also a spy, and the inspiration for novelist Ian Fleming and his James Bond character. A hotbed of political intrigue, Elizabethan England saw rampant plotting, counterplotting, assassinations, and threats of war. The queen understood that keeping her throne meant knowing on whom she could rely. Dee reported only to her and her spymaster Francis Walsingham. Dispatches to Dr. Dee were signed by the Queen as “M,” just like Bond’s boss. Nearly four centuries before Bond’s famed code name, Dee referred to himself as agent “007.” Incidentally, a very important member of the court, the Earl of Leicester, whom Dee had tutored as a child, used a similar code, marking his secret correspondence with two dots, or two number “0”s representing eyes. Dee marked his correspondence to the Queen: “For Your Eye’s Only.”
Along with Sir Francis Bacon, Dee is considered the inspiration for, if not the co-founder of, the Rosicrucian brotherhood. Since the ‘brotherhood’ in Dee’s time, was not yet chartered, it had no established organization or rules, officers, or even members. It was indeed, as claimed, a brotherhood of “Invisibles,” and for good reason. To be a ‘visible’ proponent of any science condemned by the Church could shorten one’s life expectancy considerably.
Many scholars believe the Rosicrucian brotherhood played a great part in Dee’s performance as Elizabeth’s spy. His position as court mystic, connections to the “Invisibles,” and his gifts that seemed almost supernatural, gained him ready access to Europe’s esoteric circles.

Return to Fatima - Atlantis Rising News Blog
Visit Atlantis Rising https://atlantisrising.com/
Whether the COVID19 pandemic will permanently end showings at your neighborhood cinema remains to be seen, but in the summer of 2020, the closest thing to a traditional summer blockbuster was the latest release from YouTube. It should come as no surprise, that in this unforgettably difficult year, the small-screen’s largest offering would remind us of another turbulent time, when, just over a century ago, another great pandemic ravaged the planet.
Fatima is the feature-length fully produced story of three young Portuguese shepherds who, in the Spring of 1917, claimed to have witnessed near their village (Fatima), an appearance by the Virgin Mary herself. The movie primarily focuses on the account of 10-year-old Lucia dos Santos, the eldest, who died in 2005. The other two children, Francisco and Jacinta Marto, were destined to die in the great flu epidemic of 1918, but not before participating in a drama that would command worldwide attention—and, with the new film, may still. Most reviewers appear to be in the skeptical camp, seeing the film as a polished but, in their view, unsatisfying argument for miracles.
But miracles aside, the documented facts of the episode itself still command attention, if not amazement.
In May of 1917, the children reported seeing a “Lady more brilliant than the Sun” who prophesied that prayer would end the ‘Great War’ (WWI) that had raged since 1914. Years later, Lucia, who became a nun, would recall that the ‘Lady’ had specifically requested the consecration of Russia. Indeed, the events in Fatima, coincided strangely with the lead-up to Russia’s Bolshevik revolution, which began with “The October Revolution of 1917,” something Portuguese children wouldn’t know, much less, warn about.
Yet months earlier they had declared that the ‘Lady’ would appear on October 13 to perform a miracle for all to see. In the intervening months they endured a gauntlet of disbelief and hostility from neighbors and government officials. Nevertheless, on the appointed day, many pilgrims and readers of published accounts journeyed to the spot. An estimated 70,000 were present for what newspapers would call ‘The Miracle of the Sun.’
After a rainstorm with thousands of umbrellas raised, the sun appeared, quickly drying everything, but, then, said witnesses, it became an opaque spinning disc, casting multi-colored rays across the landscape. It was seen to careen toward the earth before zigzagging back to its normal position. The phenomenon was observed miles away. Primitive but authentic black-andwhite film shows the crowd’s astonishment at the spectacle. Yet, as strange as the Fatima story may seem, even stranger may be the Russian connection.

EMP Wars - China - Russia -Exotic Weapons of the Future Are Already Here. Atlantis Rising Magazine
EMP Wars
Conspiracy theorists on the Internet are very worked up these days over what they believe may have been the first shot in an exotic war of the future. On November 8, 2010, it is said, the People’s Republic of China was the aggressor and the Carnival Cruise Line’s ship, the Carnival Spendor, was the victim. The incident was widely reported. What was not so widely reported was the suspicion in some quarters that a mysterious missile fired from a Chinese submarine may have been the cause. According to the website www.abovetopsecret.com, and others, although the missile was not explosive, it was, nonetheless, the real reason for the catastrophic crippling of the ship.
The Carnival Spendor typically holds 3,200 passengers and over 1.100 crewmembers. It was only two years old and had been moved to Long Beach, California, in 2009. The fateful voyage was set to make stops in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and finally, Cabo San Lucas. On the day of the purported attack, the Carnival Spendor was cruising from Long Beach to Mexican waters. At 6:00 a.m. (Pacific Standard Time), it is said that the ship was hit with what is called an “Electromagnetic Pulse” or an EMP. The immediate effect was that all its electronics were shut down, and the ship was now dead in the water. The EMP causes rapidly changing electric fields. This in turn produces damaging current and voltage surges.
The Carnival Spendor did have an emergency generator that was unharmed, but it could not power many areas of the ship. Lighting was minimal; there were no propulsion, no air conditioning, and no working bathrooms. The USS Ronald Reagan brought food in the form of Spam, which had some passengers joking about their “Spam Cruise.” Because its engines had no power, the Carnival Spendor drifted for 55 miles off the Mexican coast. Many became seasick from the rolling waves. Finally the tugs arrived, and the ship was towed 150 miles back to San Diego. It took nearly 30 hours to get to a dock where the ship could be repaired and its 3,000 unhappy passenger could finally disembark.
Blogger Sorcha Faal, writing for the conspiracist website WhatDoesItMean.com, quotes an alleged Kremlin report, said to have been prepared for Prime Minister Putin by Director Anatoly Perminov of the Russian Federal Space Agency, stating that an Arkon-1 military satellite monitoring the western coastal regions of North America had detected an ‘EMP anomalous event’ occurring on November 8 at 0600 Pacific Standard Time. The report, says Faal, goes on, “Nearly 11 hours after this EMP ‘event’… Arkon-1 then detected a BGM-109 (Tomahawk) subsonic cruise missile launched from a U.S. Navy Ohio-Class submarine operating off the coast of California.” The US Navy, however, had waited 11 hours to launch its own retaliatory missile, virtually assuring that nothing would be hit.
Meanwhile, the official story was that the trouble was caused by an engine room fire, raising questions over just how such a modern ship could suffer such a problem. One retired U.S. Navy propulsion expert, Sam Jemison, stated publicly that computers, switchboards, and cables connected the Carnival Spendor’s six engines. There would be several fail-safes built into such a ship, he said.
Why, it is wondered, would the Chinese commit such a threatening act? There are two widely discussed theories. The first is to test new weaponry. While an EMP attack is not designed to take human life, it does have consequences. In war it could stop a fleet of ships. The second theory is that Chinese intelligence wanted to measure America’s response time. President Obama was in India when the ‘attack’ took place. The 11-hour delay, it is speculated, was not due to military failure but was intended to show force without escalating the situation.
If indeed the Carnival Spendor was hit with an EMP strike, it is difficult to overstate the significance of the attack. Clearly the wars of the future may be unlike anything the world has yet seen.
Game Changer
From ancient to modern times, new weapons have changed the course of battles and wars and history. Archimedes, generally known for his achievements in mathematics and science, also contributed many inventions to military purposes. He lived in a coastal city of Sicily, Syracuse, which came under attack by the Roman navy. To defend his home, Archimedes invented a machine dubbed the “Iron Hand” which looked something like a catapult. It reached out like a crane, whereupon its grappling tackle could hook and capsize the enemy ship. Long before the science fiction versions, he invented the “Heat Ray.” Using curved reflective surfaces; the magnified light of the sun was deployed against the invading ships, which could be set on fire. Archimedes also invented a “steam cannon” that used heat and water to launch missiles. The siege of Syracuse failed.

The late John Anthony West—a maverick Egyptologist himself—often complained that mainstream Egyptologists were more interested in unraveling secrets of Tutankhamun’s underwear than anything truly significant about ancient Egypt. A similar argument might be made about current archaeology for ancient Rome, especially at Pompeii and Herculaneum. In April 2020, breathless headlines proclaimed that the esteemed modern practice of recycling garbage was invented in Pompeii. Nearly forgotten in all the ‘trash talk’, was something more significant – the tragic history of a doomed city.
Utterly destroyed by the volcanic eruption of nearby Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD, Pompeii has, nonetheless, for centuries, proved a fountain of drama. Few places do more to conjure up the image of sudden catastrophe of biblical proportions than this one, that still haunts us with the specter of twisted bodies turned to statues of volcanic ash. We can see what the end must have been like, and it was not pretty. From Sodom and Gomorrah to Plato’s Atlantis, ancient chronicles are full of cautionary tales, but ‘the last days of Pompeii’ seem especially poignant. And even though academic archaeology might be interested more in trash collection than grisly details, it would be a mistake to conclude that the terrifying lessons have been completely learned.
While visiting an art exhibition in Milan in 1833, British aristocrat Edward Bulwer-Lytton was so moved by Russian Karl Bryullov’s new painting that, within a year, he had written a novel and named after the painting. The Last Days of Pompeii was destined to become one of the best-selling novels of all time. The book, and the historical events it described, would subsequently inspire at least 15 plays, operas, and films. This past January, a documentary on the Science Channel used state-of-theart 3D technology to present a virtual tour of Pompeii just before its destruction. Bulwer-Lytton found deep meaning in the story and set out to contrast firstcentury Roman decadence and debauchery with early Christian ideals. From the city’s cataclysmic doom, he thought, came poetic retribution for its bad behavior. A member of both the British parliament and the English Rosicrucian Society, the novelist was much interested in the ‘hidden’ (i.e. ‘occult’) influence of ancient secret societies. In the Pompeii story, he saw an opportunity to bring up issues of powerful secret knowledge that he would explore more completely in later works. A common thread in both Christian and occult doctrine–often called ‘karma’–means essentially: ‘you reap what you sow.’ Pompeii, Bulwer-Lytton believed, made the point, and, he was not the last to think that he saw evidence there of consequences for human misdeeds delivered from higher levels.
Recently, a very interesting take on the idea came from a Canadian-Israeli film director, best known for the Discovery Channel documentary The Jesus Family Tomb. Simcha Jacobovici is also creator of the popular History Channel series, The Naked Archaeologist. In Secrets of Christianity, a documentary series now available on YouTube, he took on, in 2013, the implications for Christianity of the Vesuvius eruption. Jacobovici believes the disaster inadvertently elevated early Christianity to the status of a world religion by convincing paranoid Roman leaders that the Judaeo-Christian God could settle a score. Just nine years before the eruption of Vesuvius, the Roman emperor Titus had been the general in charge of putting down a Jewish revolt in Palestine. In April of 70 AD, his soldiers launched the terrifying siege of Jerusalem, culminating, four months later, in the destruction, desecration, and sacking of the Temple of Solomon. The Arch of Titus, celebrating that event, still stands in Rome. The last of the Jewish resistance fell in 73 AD at Masada.

Travel to Proxima Centauri at Warp Speed Possible? From the Atlantis Rising Research Group News Blog
Visit Atlantis Rising Research Group at https://www.atlantisrising.com/
In the Atlantis Rising Research Report #11, we informed you of newly discovered radio telescope evidence that appeared be emanating from Proxima Centauri, the nearest star to our solar system, about four and a quarter light years away. Whether that is indeed the source of the mystery signals has yet to be determined, but even if they really are from Proxima Centauri, that does not mean we will ever live to meet the originators. That would require travel at speeds approaching the speed of light, a virtual impossibility. Or is it?
Researchers from the University of Göttingen in Germany say that travel at speeds approaching the speed of light is theoretically possible after all, and ‘warp speed’ may be more than just a Star Trek fantasy. The new theory relies on the properties of a mathematical wave phenomenon called ‘Solitons.’
The research is published in a March issue of the journal Classical and Quantum Gravity. Dr. Erik Lentz, the author, studied previous attempts to solve the ‘warp speed’ problem and noticed that no one had looked at ‘solitons,’ a kind of wave packet that can retain its form and viability while moving at a constant velocity. The phenomenon was first discovered in 1834 by John Scott Russell. Lentz realized that the soliton properties could provide the warp speed solution, and, moreover, one within reach of current technology. (https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10...)
If he is right, travel to Proxima Centauri, could be accomplished in decades or millennia, within the lifetime of a single theoretical space traveler, unlike today’s rocket technology which, for a one-way journey, would require 50,000 years. Solitons, moreover, could be configured so that time inside the ‘warp speed’ bubble matches the time outside, avoiding the so-called ‘twin paradox’ where one twin traveling near the speed of light would age much more slowly than his twin on Earth. Indeed, the new equations show that when reunited, both twins would still be the same age as their sibling.

What Does Water Remember? - Atlantis Rising Magazine
Visit Atlantis Rising Research Group at https://www.atlantisrising.com/
What if the element that keeps us alive could also perform wonders that few of its protectors know about? What if water is sensitive to everything it touches, and stores inside itself a record of the substances encountered on its journey?
“Water is life!” became a rallying cry heard throughout social media last year. The outrageous question is: what if water’s knowledge can somehow be converted into a digital file, read by instruments at a distant location, and eventually be used in the fight against disease?
Advocates of a theory called “water memory” are claiming that all of the above has been shown possible.
Nobel Prize winning virologist Luc Montagnier plays a lead role in the twenty-first century history of hacking into water’s memory bank. He won the Nobel Prize in physiology in 2008 for his role in the 1983 co-discovery of the HIV-AIDS virus.
His more recent experiments have paradigm-changing implications for science and medicine.
He wasn’t the first distinguished scientist to step into non-conventional research on water. However, the implications of both the water memory theory and his digital-transmission experiments are enormous. He suggests that diseases and serious conditions such as Alzheimer syndrome, Parkinson’s, autism and even cancer could be successfully treated in a low-cost way if hidden microbes are found by their signals.
Other scientists in various countries now speak about water memory, but they usually don’t go so far as to talk in terms of homeopathy, much less using water memory to find pathogens in someone’s blood.
Before detailing the procedure Montagnier furthered, some background history puts it in context.
Infinitesimal Dilution
In the 1800’s Samuel Hahnemann searched for a less damaging way to heal patients, rather than medieval practices. Medical doctors in that era sometimes used toxic substances in attempts to shock people out of their maladies.
Hahnemann pioneered making homeopathic remedies by adding a very small amount of some powerful substance to a liquid base, succussing (shaking the container) a thousand times without heat, diluting with more water and shaking it again, and repeating numerous times.
Homeopathy’s founding principles include the Law of Similars (“like cures like”) and the Law of Infinitesimal Dilution (the more dilute a remedy, the more potent). Hahnemann discovered the principles through experiments, which showed that the more dilute the solution, the stronger in healing.
One scientist whom I met concluded that homeopathy should be studied, because after she tested ultra-diluted and succussed samples alongside equally treated regular water samples with zero non-water molecules added, she saw differences. Chemically, all six samples should be identical pure water after so many dilutions.
She says “While a great deal of high-quality, double-blind studies validate the efficacy of homeopathic remedies today, it remains controversial because ‘it has nothing in it! How could it possibly work?’”
Probing Water’s Memories in the Twentieth Century
In the 1980s French scientist Jacques Benveniste made a career-killing move when he followed his curiosity about the strange behaviors of ordinary water.
Benveniste couldn’t figure out the mechanism in water that creates a record of substances it encounters, so he experimented for years. In 1988, a homeopathic doctor convinced him to try out an innovative electrical machine claimed to transmit chemical information.
Perhaps Benveniste wondered if electrical or magnetic fields played a part in the memory of water, because he did give the machine a try. Michel Schiff’s 1995 book The Memory of Water reports that a positive result of that experiment puzzled participants. Benveniste was soon derailed by the science journal Nature, so he didn’t get the support needed for continuing such experiments.
Benveniste had published an article in Nature about high-dilution experiments. Afterward the magazine sent a committee including conjurer James Randi to his laboratory. A few weeks later Nature published a report titled “High dilution experiments a delusion.”
As a renowned biologist, Benveniste had been considered as a candidate for the Nobel Prize, but that went down the drain after his water memory work sparked such controversy.
In the Foreword to Schiff’s book, Benveniste recalled that in his experience two phrases—‘homeopathic dilutions’ and ‘memory of water’—could turn peaceful, intelligent people into violently irrational persons.
That description could have been a premonition of his premature death. According to a French documentary, Water Memory, Benveniste died in 2004 from a fistfight while defending his controversial theory against some radical opponents.
