Classic Horror of the 70s & 80s

THE SEVERED ARM 1973 - Five men trapped two weeks in a cave resort to cannibalism to survive. They draw straws & the loser sacrifices a limb so everybody could have a meal. Shortly after cutting off the arm they are rescued and blame the amputation on the rockfall. The five swore never to tell what really happened but 5 years later someone is out for revenge. This kind of bizarre premise came after the publicized cannibalism of the 1972 Andes plane crash survivors, but they cannibalized ones already dead. This subject matter was popular for the time, after Night of the Living Dead crossed that taboo. With a pretty nifty shock ending. Presented here in HD & Widescreen. THE BRIDE 1985 - Frankenstein creates a woman for his monster, but she rejects the creature, so he is enraged & destroys the lab. The Baron flees with the Bride, the monster also escapes though the Baron believes he didn't. The Baron educates the Bride, begins to love her. Of course this is destined for failure, then the monster reappears. This version starts at the end of Bride of Frankenstein, 1935, with one difference being all involved escape the destruction of the laboratory. Then it moves forward from there. This revisioning got critical reviews that were all over the place, most were negative regarding the effectiveness of the plot, though positive in the quality grade A presentation. In the time since its release, it has been looked upon more favorably. It fell into public domain and has some lousy copies around, but this version is the high quality HD & Widescreen one. OASIS OF THE ZOMBIES 1981 - An expedition searching for treasure, supposedly buried by the German army in the African desert during WW II, comes up against an army of Nazi zombies guarding the fortune. EATEN ALIVE 1976 (aka these various titles: Death Trap, Starlight Slaughter, Horror Hotel) - A psychotic redneck, aptly played by Neville Brand, owns a dilapidated hotel in the rural East Texas swamplands. He kills various people who upset him, then feeds them to a rather large alligator he keeps as a pet in the swamp by his hotel. Loosely based on the story of Joe Ball (known as the Bluebeard from South Texas or the Alligator Man) who owned a bar with a live alligator attraction during the 1930s in Elmendorf, Texas. During this time, Ball murdered several women. It was suspected he disposed of his victims by feeding them to his pet alligators. He shot himself when police came to question him. PUPPET MASTER 1989 The Original - A group of psychics are drawn to the Bodega Bay Inn. They learn that a compatriot may have committed suicide but they suspect that there's something sinister going on. It is -- they are being hunted by a band of homicidal marionettes created by twisted, long dead puppeteer Andre Toulon. Charles Band Productions decided on a direct-to-video release for Halloween 1989 instead of theatrical due to associated costs, and they were right. The film was a big hit in the video rental shops, got lots of free word-of-mouth advertising and became a cult favorite. FROM BEYOND 1986 - Dr. Pretorius and his assistant have developed the Resonator, a machine to stimulate inter-dimensional senses through the pineal gland. It allows whoever is within range to see beyond normal perceptible reality to this other dimension. When the experiment succeeds, they are immediately attacked by terrible life forms from that dimension. Director Stuart Gordon's second feature in his Trifecta of Terror from Charles Band Productions, right after Re-Animator, 1985, & before Dolls, 1987. DOLLS 1987 - Five adults and a child are stranded in a storm and spend the night in the mansion of an elderly couple who are dollmakers. However, the travelers' young daughter realizes the dolls the couple makes were once wicked humans whom the couple has miniaturized and turned into dangerous dolls. Director Stuart Gordon's third feature in his Trifecta of Terror from Charles Band Productions, right after Re-Animator, 1985, & From Beyond, 1986. DEATH VALLEY 1982 - A divorced mother, her young son and her new boyfriend set out on a road trip through Death Valley and run afoul of a local serial killer. The son is being stalked after the he picks up an object that can help tie the killer to his crimes. Very good early 1980s Horror-Suspense movie that got much critical acclaim and did pretty good box office. Stars Paul Lemat, Catherine Hicks and Peter Billingsly, the kid from A Christmas Story one year before that film was released. Presented here in HD & Widescreen format. HOLLOW GATE 1988 - At a Halloween party ten years earlier, a young boy named Mark was almost killed by his drunken, alcoholic father who nearly drowned him in the apple bobbing water, emotionally scarring the kid. Now it is Halloween again and the deranged boy has grown up and is ready to begin a murder spree. Another low-budget cult film (sort-of) released direct to VHS videotape (Nope, no Beta) for video-store rentals with a gruesome box art that promised a lot. 555 (1988) - Psycho dressed as a hippie is killing couples in Lake Front, Illinois. As the police search for clues and the body count gets higher, they learn that every five years, for five days, the killer kills 5 couples. Will they catch this madman or will he get away for another five years? Low-budget cult film shot on video (and not bad quality for the time) and was released direct to VHS videotape (Nope, no Beta) for video-store rentals with a very garish & nasty box art that promised a lot. SILENT MADNESS 1984 - A homicidal maniac is accidentally released from a hospital because of a computer error and heads to the site of his past murders to continue his mayhem. Dr. Joan Gilmore takes off after him while the hospital administrators cover up the mistake & send some staff thugs out to get both the doctor and the escaped lunatic. This is one of those early 1980s 3D Shockers, so expect lots of stuff to come flying at you. This film has gained quite a cult following. THE TOOLBOX MURDERS 1978 - A lunatic goes off his rocker in an apartment complex due to the death of his daughter in a car accident. The Psycho tries to kill all the tenants he dislikes for their supposed sinful behavior with the contents of a toolbox. Supposedly based upon a true story, but most likely just marketed as such for shock value, this weird amalgamation of gory slasher with psychological thriller has gained a cult following, including such as Steven King & Tobe Hooper, who directed a remake that can be seen on Rumble Channel, Radical Remakes, link here: https://rumble.com/c/c-1352114 In HD & Widescreen format. SHANKS 1974 - Deaf mute Malcolm Shanks lives with his cruel sister & her husband who treat him miserably. He's a skilled puppeteer & lab assistant to Dr. Walker, who is working on re-animating dead bodies using electrodes at key nerves & manipulating the bodies with electricity. When the professor suddenly dies one night, Shanks gets the idea to use their experiments to exact some revenge. William Castle returns to Horror with his last film before his death in 1977, and it's a good one. Famous mime Marcel Marceau portrays Shanks exceptionally well, and both he and Castle got good reviews for their work. It's nice that Castle's career ended on a high note, so to speak. THE LEGEND OF DOOM HOUSE 1971 (aka MALPERTUIS in Belgium) - A bedridden occultist (Orson Welles) is about to divide his wealthy estate to his heirs, but only if they commit to stay on the premises for a given time. The mansion is a labyrinth of corridors, staircases, and secret chambers, and the heirs are being horribly murdered. This is the Director's version in French with English subtitles. The English language version of the film that premiered at the 1972 Cannes Film Festival had been edited by the American distributor from this version. It was later edited further by other distributors. Director Harry Kumel restored the uncut version of the film, released in 1973 as "the director's cut". This version is 20 minutes longer, containing some of the best scenes of the film which had been edited out. In HD & Widescreen format. NECROMANCY 1972 - The leader of a witches' coven (Orson Welles) in the small town of Lilith wishes to raise his son from the dead. Lori Brandon & her husband Frank have recently moved to the town from the big city for some peace, but the coven and its leader have unpleasant plans for them. This Bert I Gordon film is a cash-in on the popularity of occult films of the period. This is the compete R-Rated version originally released by Cinerama which was later edited rather sloppily into another version that left out important plot points. HORROR EXPRESS 1972 (aka Pánico en el Transiberiano) - While traveling on the Trans-Siberian Express, an anthropologist and an associate must contain the deadly threat posed by the anthropologist's cargo: a prehistoric ape which is the host for an alien lifeform that is absorbs the minds of the passengers and crew, and takes over their bodies. If this sounds familiar, that's because it is loosely based on the same short story "Who Goes There?" upon which The Thing is based. A rare film occasion where Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee play companions and not antagonists. This is the best available uncut high quality print in HD & Widescreen, and without the cuts associated with PD versions. BEYOND THE DOOR 1974 (aka The Devil Within Her) - Juliet Mills plays a young pregnant woman in San Francisco who might be going to have the devil's baby during her strange possession. Richard Johnson shows up to help her... but what does he really want? Not to be confused with the 1975 British film titled "The Devil Within Her" about a possessed baby, this one is Italian produced and a Cash-In of The Exorcist. Since it got big box office in the USA, Warner Bros sued.
