Most people won't need this video. Most people will think this video is 'stupid'. But this video is for the many people out there that feel 'stupid' in conversation and how they can do better. I've become quite skilled at conversation...with the prickly, the famous, the awkward and the weird. Like many with abusive childhoods, I developed a hyperawareness of anger related triggers and the spun into an ability to lubricate social situations. I've noticed in social interactions lately that many don't even know how to converse. They fall prey to incomplete advice like 'always talk about the other person' or 'make others feel important'. This leads to tragic conversations where people try so hard but crash and burn in a sea of awkwardness. Instead, they should try this: 1. Be interested; and 2. be interesting. Good conversation is not about 'taking turns', 'never interrupting', or 'being funny'. Narrow tricks and techniques like that eventually fail. But if your general disposition is to be 'interested' in the other person you will ask the right questions at the right time. Secondly, be interesting! Most people are not interesting because they don't read anything, watch anything, go anywhere or think about anything deeper than what is fed to them in mass media. Learn something. Explore something. Read something. You become interesting when you are fascinated with something yourself. Finally, practise! I am convinced anyone trying this 2 point method just a handful of times will become more socially fluent than the majority of people I interact with. Be interested and be interesting...and you will always be the type of company people want to keep.

With polls indicating an easy win for Daniel Andrews in Victoria come November, there are reports everywhere from multiple and politically diverse sources that the groundswell of anger is not being reflected. The anger amongst normal, everyday Victorians for a Premier who is repeatedly 'dismissive and condescending' is real, but so are the polls. We are told both that Daniel is popular by a huge majority, and that he is hated by a huge majority. We are dealing with mutually exclusive facts right now, and one side is very wrong. Daniel's sudden failure to appear on the campaign trail, including at massive PR wins like the Grand Final, would indicate that he believes he is not personally popular for Labor's campaign. But we won't truly know until Nov 26 what the people think. Jeffrey A. Tucker takes aim at the Australian notion that police and government will always protect the average citizen. When interviewing Jeffrey I quietly questioned his assertion, but today I had a conversation with a former CIRT (Critical Incident Response Team) member of Victoria Police who absolutely confirmed the same culture emerging in Australia where command officers instruct those on the ground to hold back and wait to cover their own lack of decision making. On the ground team leaders then offer to go in anyway without authorisation of the commanding sergeant...which is accepted by the sergeant as long as any negative outcome of the decision reflects on the grunt, not the sergeant. I'm told this culture of backside covering is rampant and increasing, especially when OH&S, equity and compliance issues mount as gender quotas fill our most critical emergency services. In other words, police become primarily concerned about preserving themselves (life, health, career) and the population suffer through this paralysis. Professor Norman Fenton runs me through a hypothetical example of statistical illusions. Taking a false positive rate of <1% in C-19 tests, you would assume therefore that if you return a positive result, there is a 99% probability that you genuinely are infected. Mathematically, statistically, and truthfully, this is incorrect. The Professor describes the common probabilistic fallacy known in legal circles as 'The Prosecutor's Fallacy'. It turns out however that the example is not so hypothetical after all. A Cambridge University study on asymptomatic students, using confirmatory testing on the same sample, shows over 80% of those who first tested positive, were genuine false positives. It points to 80-90% of positive test results being false positives, purely through mathematical and statistical reasoning with no other explanation or contributing factor required.
