Steinhatchee Florida Damage after Hurricane Idalia
In This Steinhatchee Hurricane Damage Episode:
Hurricane Idalia is has already made landfall in the Big Bend area of Florida. We travel to this area of Florida in Steinhatchee, to inspect the damage and see if we can help any people in need in the future. Steinhatchee is a working class fishing town with over a 1,000 residents and plenty of trailers and RV spots to go round. We give a status update, and then prepare to help others in the aftermath. Watch to find out, we whave been covering this hurricane before, during, and now after. In person, and on the ground showing the real truth!
Hurricane Idalia: Was a Category 4 Hurricane which made landfall near Keaton Beach in Florida's Big Bend area on August 30,2023. The tenth tropical storm, third hurricane, and second major hurricane of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season, Idalia formed from a low-pressure area that crossed Central America from the eastern Pacific Ocean. It slowly gained momentum and speed before hitting Florida's Big Bend area. Fortunately, the storm didn't hover over land causing more damage, it moved up through Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina before turning into the Atlantic Ocean.
Steinhatchee: Steinhatchee is a Gulf coastal community in the southern part of Taylor County, Florida, United States. Steinhatchee is 38 miles south of the county seat of Perry, which sits right where Florida’s Gulf Coast curves from being east-west to north-south.
This small town is a fishing village of about 1,000 people on the north side of the Steinhatchee River and is about 70 miles west of Gainesville - 1.5 hours by car. The even smaller village of Jena is across the river from Steinhatchee, and is usually included when folks talk about Steinhatchee. The Steinhatchee is one of Florida's most unspoiled rivers. Fishing is the big industry in town. Saltwater fishing is an important activity for both commercial and sport fishermen.
Florida's Hurricanes: The threat of hurricanes is very real for Florida during the six-month long Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 until November 30. The peak of hurricane season occurs between mid-August and late October, when the waters in the equatorial Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico have warmed enough to help support the development of tropical waves.
Storm/Hurricane Categorization:
Major Hurricane - A hurricane which reaches Category 3 (sustained winds greater than 110 mph) on the Saffir/Simpson Hurricane Scale.
Hurricane - A tropical cyclone in the Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, or eastern Pacific in which the maximum 1-minute sustained surface wind is 64 knots (74 mph) or greater.
Tropical Depression - A tropical cyclone in which the maximum 1-minute sustained surface wind is 33 knots (38 mph) or less.>
Tropical Storm - A tropical cyclone in which the maximum 1-minute sustained surface wind ranges from 34 to 63 knots (39 to 73 mph) inclusive.

Are we safe enough for passage? Watch to find out, we will be covering this hurricane before, during, and after. In person, and on the ground!

Please consider donating to help Hurricane Idalia survivors. We did 6 missions during last years Hurricane Ian in Ft Myers where we hand delivered much needed supplies like bottled water, batteries, food, trash bags, clean up items, dog and cat food, etc., directly to the needy. We would like to do the same for Hurricane Idalia Survivors. The majority of your donation will be hand delivered directly to the survivor (minus our gas and food costs so we can afford to deliver). In return, you will be able to see us deliver your gift in person, see the look on their faces, and hear the gratitude in their voices plus, hear survivor stories during our live video feeds! Hurricane Idalia is a major hurricane and it's here. We moved our RV inland a little, but will still get pounded with high winds, flooding, and possible tornadoes. We are still in a very bad situation and too close to the shore. Can we ride this out without flipping? Will our RV lot flood? Are we safe enough for passage? Watch to find out, we will be covering this hurricane before, during, and after. In person, and on the ground!

Wild Iguanas at Key Largo RV Park in the Florida Keys
In This Wild Iguana Key Largo Adventure:
Join us as we visit John Pennecamp Coral Reef State Park in the Florida Keys. This Park is known for superb coral reefs and attracts snorkelers and scuba divers from all over. This park is full of Wild Iguanas roaming around, including directly in our RV site. Join us on another Great Adventure in the Florida Keys
John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park (Key Largo, Florida): Key Largo’s John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park is one of a kind, offering an amazing glimpse into the underwater world.
Renowned for being the country’s first undersea park, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo encompasses an impressive 70 nautical square miles. While many visitors view the park’s colorful coral reefs and teeming marine life on a glass-bottom boat tour, you can get an even closer look by scuba diving or snorkeling.
Canoeing and kayaking through the Key Largo's park's waters are popular activities; fishing is permitted in designated areas.
Key Largo RV park also offers walking on short trails through tropical hammocks, picnicking or swimming at the beach. The Key Largo visitor center features several large saltwater aquariums filled with sea creatures, and nature videos are shown in its theater.

Each region of the Keys has its own unique character, worlds away from big cities and theme parks. Humans have enjoyed the beauty and bounty of the Florida Keys for thousands of years. The Calusa and Tequesta Native Americans hunted and harvested abundant marine resources long before Europeans arrived.
Wild Florida Iguanas: Believed to be stowaways on ships from Central and South America, Iguanas are most prevalent in the Middle Keys but are spread all throughout the Florida Keys and South Florida. Male iguanas can grow up to 6 feet in length. They aren’t vicious or the attacking type, but they can be a little unsettling because of their size, powerful tails and teeth. The most pesky thing about iguanas is their appetite for flowers and fruits; they especially love eating up fine landscaping before sunbathing nearby.
The warm Florida weather has caused iguanas to thrive in the Keys. They’re even known to take dips in backyard swimming pools. Either way, it looks like these reptiles are here to stay. While you’re in town, make sure to try Florida Keys Brewing Company's hibiscus and honey kolsch – named Iguana Bait.

Live Adventure in The Florida Keys: Key Largo to Sunshine Key
In This Florida Keys Episode:
Join us as we explore the Florida Keys Live. We start at the first Key (Key Largo) and drive down past Marathon Key plus 7 mile Bridge, we make it all the way to Big Pine Key which covers 3/4 of all the Keys. Along the way we stop at beautiful beaches, see wildlife, and get to see spectacular ocean views.Settle in, you don't want to miss this raw video!
The Florida Keys: The Florida Keys is a scenic 110-mile Overseas Highway of ocean views, 42 bridges, natural wonders and history like no other place.
Sunset Park Beach (Key Colony Beach): Sunset Beach Park is a beautiful public beach located in Key Colony Beach on Marathon Key in the Florida Keys. This park offers beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean, as well as picnic areas, grills, restrooms, and showers. It's perfect for a relaxing day by the water!
Sunset Park Beach is a scenic sandy stretch of beach with live music and a friendly vibe. At sunset, locals and visitors perform a song about the Florida Keys on the beach.
As you stroll along the strand, take in the scenery of palm trees swaying in the breeze. The benches lining the beach, some of which sit beneath thatched tiki umbrellas, are perfect for taking a break.
Observe the varying shades of blue in the sea while strolling along the charming dock that stretches over the water. Dip your feet into the water and dangle your legs over the side. Because there are no lifeguards on this stretch of sand and crocodiles are known to show up here, swimming is not permitted.
Old Bahia Honda Bridge Trail Overlook at Big Pine Key: Bahia Honda State Park is along the oceanside of US 1 at the south end of Bahia Honda Key. This is a popular destination. Bahia Honda State Park is 45 minutes before Key West on the drive down the Keys, just beyond the Seven Mile Bridge. People love the Bahia Honda State Park beaches — many people call them the best beaches in the Florida Keys. Clear water and sandbars at low tide, the excellent beach-front camping sites and the terrific cabins are all exceptional.
Drive south past Bahia Honda State Park and over the Old Bahia Honda Bridge and on to Big Pine Key, and there is a pull-off and overlook on the Atlantic side. Accross the street from Horeshoe beach. This offers great views of the Old BAhia Honda Bridge Trail Overlook from the South side. This is where we stop to explore for the day.
Sombrero Beach: One of the best-kept beach secrets in the Florida Keys, Sombrero Beach on Marathon Key is a cozy backyard playground for islanders. Sombrero Beach is a beautiful park and sandy beach on Marathon Key. Marathon is a 10-mile-long, family-oriented island community between Key Largo and Key West. A lovely sandy beach on the Atlantic Ocean offers a shady park with picnic pavilions, volleyball courts, restrooms and showers.
Sombrero Beach is a turtle nesting beach. From April through October it is not unusual to have Loggerhead Turtles (primarily) coming on to the beach at night to lay their eggs.
