Dusting Your Venetian Blinds the Easy Way, with a Vcacuum: The first step in cleaning Venetian blinds is to remove the surface dust. My favorite way to do this is to use the little brush attachment on my vacuum. Be gentle so you do not break or bend your blinds. Run the vacuum along each slat, starting from the top and working your way down. The vacuum is highly effective at capturing dust particles without the need for chemical sprays. Make sure you dust both sides of the blinds. Vinegar, Water, and a Tiny Amount of Soap Solution: For a deeper clean, a simple vinegar, water, and only 5 drops of soap solution works wonders. I mix 90% Water, 10% Vinegar, and 5 Drops of Liquid Soap (Your Choice) into a spray bottle. Adjust the quantities depending on the size of your blinds. Spray the solution onto a clean microfiber cloth or directly onto the blinds, being careful not to oversaturate them. Gently wipe each slat, paying close attention to any stubborn spots or stains. Vinegar's natural acidity helps break down grime and grease, leaving your blinds refreshed. Be sure to spray and wipe both sides and then turn back to the first side and make sure there are no drips or spots that came up after the second side. Prevention is key to maintaining clean Venetian blinds. Establishing a routine cleaning schedule can save you time and effort in the long run. Dust your blinds regularly with a microfiber cloth or duster. By adopting a proactive approach to cleanliness, you'll minimize the need for deep cleaning sessions. Cleaning your Venetian blinds doesn't have to involve harsh chemicals or expensive commercial products. One common issue that arises during this process is the presence of scuff marks on the walls, ceiling, and baseboards. But worry not! In this blog post, we'll explore two effective methods to tackle this cleaning challenge: utilizing a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and employing a vinegar solution with a wet towel. The Power of Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for Scuff Marks Gather the necessary supplies To begin, ensure you have a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, a bucket of clean water, and a dry cloth or towel at hand. The Magic Eraser is a versatile cleaning tool that effectively removes scuff marks without damaging surfaces. Dampen the Magic Eraser Thoroughly wet the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser under the faucet or by dipping it into the bucket of clean water. Squeeze out any excess water, leaving the eraser damp but not dripping wet. Test an inconspicuous area Before tackling the scuff marks head-on, it's wise to test the Magic Eraser on an inconspicuous spot to ensure it doesn't cause any discoloration or damage to the surface paint. Choose a small area and gently rub the eraser in circular motions. Erase those scuff marks Once you're confident the Magic Eraser won't harm the surface, begin working on the scuff marks. Apply gentle pressure and use circular or back-and-forth motions to erase the marks. Start from the top and work your way down, focusing on one area at a time. Rinse and dry Periodically rinse the Magic Eraser in the bucket of clean water to remove dirt and residue. Wring out excess water and continue cleaning until all scuff marks are gone. Finally, use a dry cloth or towel to wipe away any moisture left behind. For the Walls and Baseboards Use a Vinegar Solution and Wet Towel Create the vinegar solution In a small bucket or large bowl, mix 1 cup of white or apple cider vinegar into a gallon of water. Vinegar's acidic properties make it an excellent natural cleaner. Spray or dip the towel If using a spray bottle, spritz the vinegar solution onto a clean towel until it's damp. Alternatively, if you're like me and not so delicate about the process just dunk a cloth or towel directly into the vinegar solution if using a bucket. Ring it out well. Blot or rub gently Gently blot or rub the scuff marks on the walls, ceiling, and baseboards with the vinegar-dampened towel. Start with light pressure and increase it if necessary, ensuring not to damage the surfaces. This solution is my go-to for general surface dirt. Repeat if needed For stubborn dirt or scuff marks, repeat the process as necessary until the desired results are achieved. Patience and persistence are key. As you bid adieu to your rental house, leaving it spotless is a gesture of respect and responsibility. Scuff marks on the walls, ceiling, and baseboards may seem daunting, but with the right techniques, they can be effectively removed. Whether you choose to employ the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser or the vinegar solution with a wet towel, both methods offer reliable ways to restore the surfaces to their former glory. Traveling or moving can be an exciting adventure, but packing delicate items like jewelry or hanging valuables like the crystal rainbow makers Emmaline loves can sometimes be a daunting task. You want to ensure that your precious accessories remain safe and tangle-free throughout the journey. Today I'll introduce you to a clever packing technique: using a rolled towel to keep your jewelry protected and organized. This method is simple, cost-effective, and offers an efficient way to transport your jewelry with peace of mind. Step 1: Gather Your Supplies Before you begin, gather the following supplies: Clean, soft towel: Choose a towel that is large enough to accommodate all your jewelry items and offers sufficient padding. Rubber bands or hair ties: These will secure the rolled towel and keep everything in place. Your jewelry or other precious items. Step 2: Sort and Organize Your Jewelry. Take a moment to sort through your jewelry and decide what you'll be taking with you. This is a great opportunity to declutter and only pack the items you truly need. Organize your jewelry by type (earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc.) to make it easier to locate and unpack later. Step 3: Prepare the Towel by laying it flat on a clean surface. This will provide a soft and protective layer for your jewelry. If your towel is particularly large, you may want to fold it in half for more manageable rolling. I do this which also allows for two layers of jewelry when moving so I can pack more in a smaller space. Step 4: Place and position the Jewelry on the towel. Start with the larger, sturdier items like necklaces and bracelets. Lay them in a straight line near the bottom edge of the towel, leaving enough space between each piece to prevent tangling. Step 5: Once all your jewelry is securely placed, start rolling the towel from the bottom edge, making sure the jewelry remains inside and does not shift into the other pieces. Roll it tightly, but be gentle to avoid damaging the delicate pieces. As you roll, the towel will form a cylindrical shape. Step 6: I like to secure the rolled towel. This is especially important when traveling in case of security rummaging through your bag. You don't want your jewelry to become dislodged. To keep the rolled towel in place, use rubber bands or hair ties. Wrap them around each end and possibly even the center of the towel. This will ensure the contents stay inside and won't unravel during transit. Step 7: Your jewelry-packed towel is now ready to be packed into your suitcase or moving box. Place it in a central location where it won't get crushed by heavier items. If you're traveling, consider carrying it in your carry-on bag for added security. Packing jewelry in a rolled towel is a simple yet effective method for keeping your accessories safe and organized while traveling or moving. By following these steps, you can ensure your precious items arrive at their destination tangle-free and in excellent condition. Remember, when it comes to jewelry, an extra layer of protection goes a long way. I love to upcycle items that are intended for the landfill. I think it started with me reading The Boxcar Children as a child. The creativity I feel as I take these used-up, unwanted ingredients and make them into something new and worthwhile makes me happy. There is an ongoing battle in my garden every spring. It is a battle for fresh snap peas. The birds in our area have developed a taste for them. Not that I blame them I love fresh peas too. It is so bad that once they have located them in my garden all that is left is the spines of the leaves. I have tried multiple things over multiple years but I have finally found a solution. This garden bed I created is taller with a tall frame that both holds the bird netting and has a trellis of strings for the peas to climb, (And it is cute as well!) This garden bed is the perfect spot to grow my peas and protect them from the birds. A bird decoy is an essential tool for protecting strawberry patches from bird damage. Birds are attracted to the bright red color of ripe strawberries and will often feast on them, causing significant losses to strawberry crops. The use of bird decoys is an effective method to deter birds from eating the strawberries. One of the greatest kitchen cleaning struggles is how to easily clean bottles with small openings. Gadzooks, the struggle is real. I steadfastly refuse to buy them as a general rule, but there are always a few exceptions I cannot get around. First, is the soda-stream bottles. They are of special design and so we have no option but to purchase small-mouthed bottles. Second, are our oil and vinegar bottles. Of course, anyone can put a few drops of oil in the bottle and give it a good shake. AND, that may work a time or two, but eventually, the bottles are going to become quite gross. The limited access of the small opening limits the access you have to the inside of the bottle. This makes it difficult to clean the bottom and the sides of the bottle effectively. Trapped residue such as dirt, bacteria, and other contaminants can remain trapped when you don't get the bottles cleaned well enough. Most cleaning tools are designed to clean larger openings, so finding a tool that can fit through the small opening can be challenging. This limits the tools you can use to clean the bottle. Cleaning a water bottle with a small opening can be a time-consuming and frustrating task if you don't have tricks up your sleeve. If you are not careful, you may damage the bottle while trying to clean it. At first, I thought this was somewhat unnecessary but the more I read the more I had to concede that it could prove to be a handy tool in my garden. The primary goal of the leveling device in the garden is to keep the garden as level as possible. This is true whether you are working with soil beds or raised beds. The reason this is important is that the fertilizer is dissolved and dispersed by water. Water flows downhill. So, if you have a garden bed on a slope you can assume that the lower plants are getting more of the nutrients. It is designed to be specifically used with the seedling trays. It allows me to make 64 perfectly spaced holes in seconds. When I first saw the plans, I thought it was an unnecessary tool, but as I have been using it I have found it is a massive time saver. If I was only doing one flat of seeds it might be no big deal to create the holes individually but if you multiply the time it takes to prep 64 holes in multiple trays over multiple years that changes things. 📝 Blog Post https://wisdompreserved.life/how-to-make-a-dibble-mittleider-gardening/ When I first saw the word Dibble written in the Mittleider Gardening Course book. I thought "What on earth is that?" As I continued to read I found that I had been using rudimentary "Dibbles" for years. A Dibble is a long pointy object used to gently remove young seedlings for transplanting. In the past, I had used pencils or old knitting needles for this. But now with the course book's directions, I had the exact directions of how to make an official Dibble of my own. DIBBLE SUPPLIES: 1/2 inch dowel Measuring Tape Miter Saw Belt sander or 1/2-inch carpenter pencil sharpener Pencil Wood Burner (optional) DIRECTIONS: Begin making the dibble by marking and cutting the dowel at the 6-inch mark. I decided to add depth markers to mine so I marked also marked the 1, 2, and 3-inch depths. I then used a belt sander to create a pointed end. You could use a carpenter's pencil sharpener for this. (I was going to but found that mine was just a little too small for my dowel.) Then I used a wood burner (actually I used my husband's soldering iron) to burn over the depth marks I made, making them more permanent. This is a super easy project to do.
