2022 Peugeot e-Expert - Hydrogen Fuel Cell
Peugeot e-Expert review
The very first production hydrogen vehicle from PEUGEOT left the production line on December 13th 2021 – with MICHELIN group the first customer of the revolutionary new PEUGEOT e-EXPERT Hydrogen. With the e-EXPERT Hydrogen, PEUGEOT has become one of the very first manufacturers to offer, in addition to its combustion and battery electric variants, a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in the commercial vehicle segment.
The PEUGEOT e-EXPERT Hydrogen van integrates a new hydrogen fuel cell electric powertrain in the engine compartment and underbody – resulting in no compromise in terms of load volume compared to the diesel variants of the EXPERT, and a low centre of gravity – improving vehicle stability and safety.
Based on the battery powered e-EXPERT, the PEUGEOT e-EXPERT Hydrogen is now available for deliveries, with the first customer, WATEA by MICHELIN, the young subsidiary dedicated to green mobility solutions in the MICHELIN group, receiving its hydrogen van before the end of the year.
The e-EXPERT Hydrogen is the latest development of PEUGEOT’s "Extended power of choice" strategy, enabling customers to choose from a wide range of powertrains that best meets their needs.
PEUGEOT’s e-EXPERT Hydrogen model comes just 15 months after the launch of the battery-powered e-EXPERT, which was named International Van of the Year in early 2021 and is the sixth PEUGEOT vehicle to win this prestigious award since 1992.
The new PEUGEOT e-EXPERT Hydrogen features a hydrogen fuel cell system combined with a 10.5kWh battery that helps power the electric motor. A full refuel with compressed hydrogen takes just three minutes, resulting in 249 miles (WLTP) of electric range, and a maximum speed of 80mph.
The e-EXPERT Hydrogen is available in two lengths, Standard and Long. Both variants share identical load volumes with the diesel and petrol variants, with up to 6.1m3 of load capacity inside. With a maximum payload of up to 1,000kg and a towing capacity of 1,000kg – the e-EXPERT Hydrogen is a practical, zero emissions solution for a variety of businesses and fleets.
Linda Jackson, CEO of the PEUGEOT brand, said: “With the e-EXPERT Hydrogen, PEUGEOT is taking the lead in a future zero emission technology that is particularly relevant to the light commercial vehicle market: hydrogen electric technology allows intensive daily use without the need for recharging, a decisive advantage for professionals who, in a single day, have to cover several hundred kilometres on the motorway and then enter emission-restricted urban areas. The hydrogen technology developed by Stellantis and implemented in our PEUGEOT e-Expert Hydrogen makes such uses possible.”
Hydrogen is now becoming a major pillar of the energy transition with the announcement of different international projects. Thanks to government plans, the number of hydrogen stations in Europe is constantly increasing and PEUGEOT is working directly with energy suppliers to propose package deals.
The new model is built on the production lines of the Stellantis competence centre dedicated to hydrogen technology. It is not currently on sale in the UK.

Genesis GV60 - Vehicle to Load (V2L)
What Is Vehicle-To-Load (V2L)?
Vehicle-to-load (V2L) is a feature that enables an electric vehicle to provide regular AC power to appliances or loads such as lights, laptops or a refrigerator. This is a new technology where an EV contains an integrated inverter to provide AC power via one or more 240V outlets; it should not be confused with Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology which requires an advanced bidirectional charger. V2L power outlets can be used for backup power, much like a backup generator, to run multiple appliances depending on the output power rating (W) of the electric vehicle. Interestingly, EVs with V2L can even be used to charge other EVs which have run flat and become stranded.
V2L is useful for providing power while travelling or basic backup power at home. However, as explained below, the same technology can enable off-grid solar systems to reduce their dependence on backup diesel and petrol generators significantly. Additionally, V2L vehicles can be integrated into a hybrid (grid-tie) solar system to provide energy storage and emergency backup power.
V2L Power Ratings
V2L power output is measured in either Amps (A) or Kilowatts (kW) and generally ranges from 10A to 15A (2.4kW to 3.6kW). Most EV manufacturers list the total kW power rating available via one or more AC outlets. For reference, a standard household 240V power output is rated at 10A, equating to 2.4kW (10A x 240V), so any appliance used in a regular household outlet should work on an EV with V2L. Some EVs, such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 have a 3.6kW power rating which is equivalent to a 15A outlet, so they could operate multiple large appliances. The Ford F-150 lightning has the highest V2L rating of 9.6kW via 4 AC power outlets. It is also important to emphasise that the output power rating is the maximum or peak rating. However, it may be problematic to use loads rated at the maximum for more than a few minutes. In the same way modern backup generators should not be run at the limit, it’s recommended not to use loads rated above 90% of the power rating, especially if the loads are being used for an extended period of time, especially in warm or hot weather.

2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale - The first journey
Overview
The 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale will inject some Italian blood into the fray of subcompact luxury crossovers. With sexy bodywork that's accentuated by Alfa Romeo's signature sharp-nosed face, the Tonale is sure to garner admiring looks. The company also promises that it'll be satisfying to drive, with a fully independent suspension and available adaptive dampers. Power comes from either a standard 256-hp turbo-four or a more powerful plug-in-hybrid powertrain with more than 30 miles of estimated all-electric range. Throw in the elevated driving position and standard all-wheel drive that SUV shoppers crave—as well as the potential for a high-powered Quadrifoglio model—and the 2023 Tonale is set to be a compelling new entry in a class that includes the BMW X1, the Mercedes-Benz GLA250, and the Volvo XC40.
What's New for 2023?
The Tonale debuted in concept form at the 2019 Geneva auto show. Now, Alfa has released official photos and information that give us a much better idea about what the new little Italian ute has to offer. The company says the Tonale will hit U.S. showrooms starting in the first quarter of 2023.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
Sprint $38,000 (est)
Ti $43,000 (est)
Veloce $48,000 (est)
Although Alfa has revealed that the 2023 Tonale will be available in three trim levels, it hasn't mentioned how much any of them will cost or exactly what options will be available. We predict the base model will open between $36,000 and $40,000, which aligns with the starting price of other subcompact luxury crossovers.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Tonale is offered with two distinct powertrains, but all models come with all-wheel drive. The standard setup pairs a nine-speed automatic transmission with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four that makes 256 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The optional plug-in hybrid features a turbo 1.3-liter four-cylinder and an electric motor mounted on the rear axle that together generate a combined 272 horses. Alfa equips the plug-in Tonale with a six-speed automatic and a 15.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that's said to provide over 30 miles of electric-only driving range. All models ride on a fully independent suspension; adaptive dampers are optional. We'll have to wait to drive one to prove Alfa's claims, but the brand promises a driving experience that will remain true to its "race-inspired DNA".

The 2023 Honda HR-V Interior
Overview
Honda has given its 2023 HR-V a complete makeover, the better to combat the onslaught of desirable and stylish small SUVs that have flooded the market. The outgoing generation was practical and offered good value but it lagged the segment's best—the Hyundai Kona, the Kia Seltos, and the Mazda CX-30—in almost every way. No surprise then that the new HR-V looks totally different from the outgoing model. The new HR-V shares its platform with the Civic and uses a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated inline-four from Honda’s compact sedan. Gone, sadly, is the outgoing model’s trick second-row Magic Seat, which flipped down to make the HR-V one of the most flexible cargo-friendly small SUVs. But the new generation is wider and longer, which Honda claims benefits interior space. Independent rear suspension replaces the old model’s torsion beam setup, a change that promises to improve ride-and-handling. The new model also receives updated infotainment features and more modern driver-assistance technology.
What's New for 2023?
Honda's smallest crossover has been completely redesigned for the 2023 model year and goes on sale this summer.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
LX $24,895
Sport $26,895
EX-L $28,695
Pricing for the 2023 HR-V has increased slightly over the outgoing model, and the mid-range EX trim has been dropped. Of the three remaining trims, we think the Sport makes the most sense, and we appreciate it’s slightly more aggressive exterior styling: it’s the only trim that comes with 18-inch wheels, the largest offered.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
In Europe, the HR-V is powered by a hybrid powertrain borrowed from the Insight and Accord but the U.S. version comes with a traditional gasoline 2.0-liter four-cylinder that’s good for 158 horsepower. If that sounds familiar, it’s because the same engine serves as the base powertrain in the Civic. In the HR-V, the 2.0-liter four-cylinder feels lethargic and gutless, but since the SUV shares its platform with the Civic, we could see a 180-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter or a hybrid powertrain join the lineup down the road. For now, front-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) are the standard arrangement but all-wheel drive is available as an option on all trims. The outgoing HR-V didn’t deliver the quiet athleticism we expect of Hondas, but this new generation corrects that with a chassis inherited from the spry Civic.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
Fuel economy estimates are highest on front-wheel drive models, which are rated at 26 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. Going with all-wheel drive drops the city rating to 25 mpg and the highway rating to 30 mpg. When we get a chance, we’ll take the new HR-V on our 75-mph highway fuel economy test route and report its results here. For more information about the HR-V's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The HR-V adopts a more modern interior design inspired by the redesigned Civics’; it’s both classic and attractive. The front seats are comfortable and supportive while providing a wide range of adjustment. The outgoing model offered Honda's novel second-row Magic Seat, which allows the rear bench to flip and fold to create an especially low, flat floor. That feature helped the HR-V lead the segment in cargo capacity despite its diminutive size. Unfortunately, the new HR-V has abandoned that feature, but Honda claims that the new model’s cargo bay is larger and that lift-over height has been reduced to aid with loading heavy items.

2023 McLaren Artura X P1
Overview
McLaren embraces a hybridized future of high performance with the sculptural 2023 Artura supercar. The newly introduced mid-engine two-seater rides on a new lightweight platform. It also pairs a twin-turbo V-6–the company's first—with a battery-electric powertrain to create a plug-in-hybrid model—another first. The duo generates a combined 671 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque. Performance estimates are highlighted by a zero-to-60-mph time of 2.6 seconds and a top speed of 205 mph. Its bodywork is pure McLaren, complete with prominent air vents and scissor-style doors. Along with a more premium and spacious interior than the 720S, the 2023 Artura offers several convenience and driver-assistance features.
What's New for 2023?
The Artura is an all-new model that features a hybrid V-6 powertrain and introduces a new platform (called MCLA) for the British supercar-maker.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
Artura $237,500
Priced starting at a cool $237,500, the Artura is available to order now, and McLaren says deliveries will be made later this year.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Artura is powered by a new hybrid twin-turbo V-6 that makes a combined 671 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque. The gas engine is supplemented by an e-motor located within the housing of the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and it's juiced by a 7.4-kWh lithium-ion battery pack under the rear of the cabin. The new powertrain even provides up to 11 miles of all-electric operation. During our initial test drive, we praised the Artura for its brisk acceleration, but we'd have preferred it get us to 60 mph in an estimated 2.6 seconds with a little more drama. The car is quick, but it can also be fairly stealthy and it lacks the auditory gratification we like in rival sports cars. The Artura is also the first McLaren to ride on the company's new Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA), which is said to be lighter than its predecessor's structure. Handling is razor sharp and a blast to pitch around a racetrack, but it also has a softer side that provides a more comfortable ride for commuting or highway cruising. When we get a chance, we'll take the Artura to our test track and report its performance results here.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
According to the EPA, the Artura is good for 17 mpg city and 21 mpg highway, but with the electric driving range factored in it is also rated for up to 39 MPGe. Once we have the opportunity to run one on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen, we can evaluate its real-world mpg. For more information about the Artura's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Inside, the Artura largely demonstrates McLaren's function-before-fashion approach. However, the cabin is dressed up with snazzier materials, such as leather and microsuede. There's also less visible carbon fiber than is typical on other models. Still, the company is known for its minimalist cabin designs that limit the presence of physical switchgear and include steering wheels that are free of buttons and the Artura is no exception. It comes standard with power-adjustable seats, and the McLaren looks to have excellent outward visibility to help drivers place the car precisely on the road or the racetrack. While it's not as capacious as the McLaren GT, the Artura boasts 6 cubic feet of luggage space in the front trunk.

2022 Range Rover Sport - 360 Walkaround
Overview
When it comes to off-road capability combined with luxury accommodations—and the status of an upper-crust image—there's no better option than a Range Rover. But if your budget is slightly less elastic, the 2023 Range Rover Sport is an alternative that's nearly as gratifying. Despite its smaller dimensions, the Sport has a similar silhouette to the more expensive Range Rover—but with an added dose of attitude. A trio of powertrains, including a hybrid inline-six, a plug-in hybrid inline-six, and a mega-power twin-turbo V-8 gives you a good variety of choices. The cabin is premium and fitted with desirable tech, including Land Rover's latest Pivi Pro infotainment system and driver-assistance features to help with both on- and off-road driving. All this prestige doesn't come cheap, though, and the Range Rover Sport's starting price is higher than other deluxe SUVs such as the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE-class, and Volvo XC90. But make no mistake, the Sport earns its place in the Range Rover lineup honestly and for several reasons, not the least of which is this: it looks like money.
What's New for 2023?
Like the larger Range Rover, the mid-size Range Rover Sport has received a full redesign that includes fresh styling, a revamped cabin, and cutting-edge tech. An all-electric Range Rover Sport EV will enter the market next year as a 2024 model.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
P360 SE $84,350
P400 SE Dynamic $91,350
P440e Autobiography $105,550
P530 First Edition $122,850
Land Rover hasn't released a full breakdown of the Range Rover Sport's standard and optional features yet, but we think the more powerful SE Dynamic will be the trim to go with. Its extra horsepower will undoubtedly give it a bit of a boost both around town and on the highway. When we find out more about the redesigned model's option packages we will update this story with details.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The entry-level engine is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that employs a 48-volt hybrid system and makes 355 horsepower in the P360 SE and 395 horsepower in the P400 SE Dynamic. A plug-in hybrid P440e setup is exclusive to the fancy Autobiography trim and pairs an electric motor to the inline-six for a combined 434 horsepower. The juiciest cut can be found in the P530 First Edition, which comes only with a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 engine that pumps out a robust 523 horsepower. Land Rover estimates the V-8 will motivate the Range Rover Sport to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. All models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, standard all-wheel drive, and an adjustable air suspension. The Range Rover Sport can also be had with an optional performance driving setup called Stormer Handling Pack, which adds rear-wheel steering and torque-vectoring systems. When we get a chance to test drive the new Range Rover Sport, we'll update this section with driving impressions.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
The plug-in hybrid model will be the only Range Rover Sport with an all-electric driving range until next year when the EV model goes on sale. The plug-in sports a 31.8-kWh battery pack that Land Rover claims is good for a 48-mile electric driving range.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
According to Land Rover, the P360 and P400 models will deliver 20 mpg city and 25 mpg highway, while the V-8–powered P530 carries fuel economy estimates of 15 mpg city and 20 mpg highway. When we get a chance, we'll take the Range Rover Sport on our 75-mph highway fuel economy test route and report its results here. For more information about the Range Rover Sport's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The interior design has taken a more minimalist approach this time around, with a reduction in the number of buttons and switches and a more streamlined appearance throughout the cabin. Buyers can choose from either textile or genuine leather upholstery in attractive two-tone designs. The dark-tinted chrome accents look particularly premium. Power-adjustable front seats are standard but a set of chairs with up to 22 ways of adjustability as well as massage, ventilation, and winged headrests is optional. An integrated air purification system is available and is said to reduce odors, bacteria, viruses, and allergens from the cabin.

2023 Genesis GV60 - EV Charge Door Access and Charging Indicators
Overview
The ambitious Genesis luxury brand is tackling the luxury EV segment with its satisfying and whimsical 2023 GV60 crossover. The GV60 incorporates styling elements found in other Genesis models, but it lacks the brand's large trapezoidal grille that stretches between the dual-element headlamps, substituting a slimmer lower grille across the front bumper. Inside, the GV60's cabin looks decidedly premium, with a large monolithic display screen serving as both gauge cluster and infotainment system and a novel crystal sphere shifter that rotates to reveal itself when the SUV is powered up. At launch, buyers can choose from the 314-hp Advanced or 429-hp Performance trims; estimated driving range varies from 235- to 248-miles per charge. Rival luxury SUVs such as the Audi Q4 e-tron, the Volvo XC40 Recharge, and the coupe-like C40 Recharge offer similar prestige and driving range, but the GV60's detail-oriented design and amusing flourishes make it an attractive and off-beat alternative.
What's New for 2023?
The GV60 is a new model for Genesis and the brand's third SUV. It's also the brand's first foray into the electric vehicle marketplace and it shares its underpinnings with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
Advanced $59,985
Performance $68,985
While we're tempted by the Performance trim—which unlocks a maximum of 483-hp from it's two electric motors—the better buy is the Advanced trim. While the Advanced only makes 314 hp, it also comes with a slightly longer 248-mile driving range and still comes generously equipped with 20-inch wheels, a Bang & Olufsen stereo system, heated and ventilated front seats, and a host of driver-assistance features, among many others.
EV Motor, Power, and Performance
Although three different powertrains will eventually be offered, only the all-wheel-drive arrangements with dual motors will be available at the GV60's launch. The Advanced model makes a combined 314 hp while the Performance trim makes 429 hp; that number can be temporarily increased to 483 horsepower though when the Performance model's Boost driving mode is engaged. With that driving mode in use, we estimate that the GV60 will be capable of blasting to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. When we get a chance to test that for ourselves, we'll update this story with results. What we can tell you, based on our initial test drive, is that the GV60's road manners are quite refined and its handling is reminiscent of the Porsche Macan. When cruising, the cabin remains whisper quiet but encounter a stretch of winding road and the GV60 offers enough athleticism to entertain the driver and enough sure-footedness to inspire confidence.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
All versions come with the same 77.4-kWh battery pack, but according to the EPA the all-wheel drive GV60 Advanced will offer up to 248 miles of driving range while the Performance model carries an estimate of 235. A base rear-wheel drive powertrain is rumored to join the lineup later with a longer driving range. Hooked up to a DC fast charging station, Genesis says the GV60's battery can be charged from 10- to 80-percent capacity in just 18 minutes.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe
The most efficient GV60 model right now is the all-wheel drive Advanced trim which is EPA rated for up to 103 MPGe city and 86 MPGe highway. The Performance trim is rated for 97 MPGe city and 82 MPGe highway. When we get a chance to test the GV60 on our 75-mph highway fuel economy test route, we'll update this story with test results. For more information about the GV60's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
As the smallest SUV in the Genesis lineup, the GV60 isn't as spacious as the larger GV70 and GV80 models. However, it offers a unique interior design that's more high-tech in its appearance. Genesis has taken some chances here and integrated some cool motifs and features, including a gear selector that flips upside down when in park and has the appearance of a crystal ball. The GV60 also boasts some novel tech, such as a facial recognition system that allows the owner to unlock and start the vehicle without needing a key. Other biometric tech such as fingerprint readers are also incorporated into the SUV's design.

2023 Toyota GR86
Overview
If we gave out an award for Most Improved Sports Car, the Toyota GR86 would very possibly be the big winner. This eminently entertaining rear-wheel drive coupe’s second generation arrived in 2022 and addressed the big issue we had with the original model: a weak engine. The second time around, power comes from a 228-hp flat-four with plenty of mid-range power and, although a six-speed manual comes standard (and is the only way to go) a six-speed automatic is available. You won’t hear us telling you to opt for it. The GR86 is small and affordable like, say, a Mazda MX-5 Miata, only with a tiny Porsche 911-type rear seat that enables you to take small fry along. Its hatchback body also affords reasonable cargo space, which the Miata doesn’t offer, either. The GR86’s mechanical twin, the Subaru BRZ, offers a virtually identical experience, so choosing between them ultimately comes down to which badge you prefer. As a two-plus-two coupe built mainly for playtime, the GR86 does suffer from road noise, particularly on the highway, and the music produced by the boxer engine isn’t exactly worth buying tickets to hear live. Still, plenty of cornering grip, great balance, sharp steering, and a rev-happy engine make the GR86 fun drive no matter where you’re going. It’s everything an entry-level sports car should be.
What's New for 2023?
Toyota hasn’t changed our favorite affordable sports car for 2023. Instead, it’s added a GR86 Special Edition. The Special Edition mixes GR86 Premium equipment with exclusive Solar Shift orange paint, a blatty cat-back performance exhaust with black chrome tips, and matte-black 18-inch wheels. The GR86 Special Edition will be limited to just 860 units. Wonder how they arrived at that number?
Pricing and Which One to Buy
Base $28,925
Special Edition $32,200 (est)
Premium $33,025
The marginal increase from the base price for the 2023 Toyota GR86 Premium is well worth it. Standard equipment on the Premium includes heated seats, stylish 18-inch wheels with summer performance tires, adaptive LED headlights, and a better eight-speaker audio system. The six-speed manual transmission is an obvious choice here too.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Like the first-generation model, the 2023 GR86 comes with a naturally aspirated horizontally opposed four-cylinder provided by Subaru. Acceleration was decently brisk in the previous generation at 6.2 seconds to 60 mph, but the last GR86 we tested achieved a 5.4-second to 60 mph and reached a quarter-of-a-mile in 14.0 seconds. That improvement is thanks to a more powerful 2.4-liter engine that makes 228 horsepower. A six-speed manual continues to serve as the GR86's standard transmission, while a six-speed automatic is optional. The six-speed automatic was slower to 60 mph than the manual by seven-tenths of a second. During our first test drive, we noted that the more powerful engine felt livelier and sounds better while the car's razor-sharp handling provided thrills both on the road and on the Monticello Motor Club race track. Despite the car's handling prowess, the suspension is forgiving enough to work as a daily driver.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The EPA estimates the Toyota GR86 can accomplish 21 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway when optioned with the six-speed automatic transmission. The GR86s using the six-speed manual get slightly lower EPA numbers at 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. When we get a chance to put the new model through our 200-mile highway fuel-economy test, we will update this story with results. For more information about the 86's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The 2023 GR86 retains the relative size and shape of the outgoing model. The GR86 and the Subaru BRZ are unique in the affordable sports-car market as the only two that offer seating for four. Not that the rear seats are all that comfortable or spacious, but they're nice to have. The Subaru and Toyota models appear to share their interiors, save for some changes on the dashboard surrounding the infotainment display.

2023 PEUGEOT 308 SW - Modularity and trunk
Peugeot has confirmed the battery-electric variants of its Peugeot Peugeot 308 hatchback and Peugeot 308 SW estate will be more powerful, more efficient and have a longer range than its existing Peugeot e-208 supermini.
The e-308 will join pure-combustion and plug-in hybrid variants of the family hatchback to complete the Peugeot 308 line up when it goes on sale next year.
As with other EVs in the Peugeot line-up, the e-308 has its motor, on-board charger and heat pump under the bonnet. The battery sits under the floor, mostly in spaces beneath the seats, while the boot remains the same size as the 308 plug-in hybrid.
The e-308 is front-wheel drive only and will come with just one powertrain option. It has a 400V battery with a 50kWh of usable capacity (54kWh gross). The motor makes 154bhp and 199lb ft, 20bhp more than the e-208 supermini. At approximately 1600kg, it weighs the same as the Peugeot 308 plug-in hybrid.
The battery is only 4kWh bigger than the one in the smaller Peugeot e-208 but Peugeot is claiming that a new NMC811 battery chemistry will give the car increased efficiency, of 5mi/kWh (12.4kWh/100km), "the best among the competition", according to Agnès Tesson-Faget, Peugeot's 308 brand project manager. That would give the e-308 a test cycle range of nearly 250 miles. It can be fast charged at up to 100kW.
The car is still some way from market but Peugeot is expecting it to account for a large chunk of 308 sales. “If we look at the portfolio we have today, the plug-in is already over 20% of orders and we expect the electric version to reach at least that ratio,” Tesson-Faget told Car of the Year jurors.
Peugeot's CEO Linda Jackson said that the company's multi-powertrain strategy - which means its cars can have internally combusted, plug-in hybrid and full electric variants of the same model - has been "a commercial success".
"Peugeot was in the sales top three in Europe last year," Jackson said, "and electric versions made up 20% of sales in December 2021."
The e-308 will go into full production in July 2023, with deliveries shortly afterwards. Pricing will be announced nearer the time.

2023 Genesis GV60 - i Pedal

How to Charge your Mercedes EQ ?
The Mercedes-Benz EQS uses the CCS charging standard, which consists of a combined AC and DC inlet port. The top portion of the inlet is for the Type 2 connector, which is used when charging at home, or at public slow and fast AC points. Both the upper and lower sections on the inlet are used to carry high power during rapid DC charging. The Mercedes-Benz EQS’s CCS charging inlet is found on the off-side rear flank, where you would expect to find a fuel filler flap.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS is able to be slow, fast and rapid charged from public points, depending on the network and type of charge unit. In most cases, slow charging requires a 3-pin-to-Type 2 cable, and fast charging a Type 2-to-Type 2 cable, one of which is usually supplied with the vehicle. For rapid charging, the vehicle uses a tethered CCS connector which is part of the charging unit.
Charging on AC or DC requires the EV driver to plug the connectors into the correct inlet, after which the car then ‘talks’ to the charging unit to make sure there is a power supply, that there are no faults, and that it is safe to start charging. If charging at private home or workplace charge point, the vehicle then automatically starts charging.
On a public charger, an activation process is required to initiate charging. Depending on the network provider, this may require the use of an RFID card or smartphone app, often linked to an account which has been set up beforehand. Contactless pay-as-you-go is now commonplace on rapid charge points. Once activated, the units will conduct further connection and account checks before starting to charge the vehicle.
The following table shows approximate times to charge a Mercedes-Benz EQS’s 108 kWh battery. Times are for a 100% charge for all but rapid charging, which is quoted for 0-80% as most rapid chargers reduce or cut power well before 100% charge to protect the battery and maximise efficiency.
Note that the times shown are only a guide, as very rarely will an EV need to be fully charged from 0%. Other factors that might vary the charging time include ambient temperature, in-vehicle energy loads, any upper and lower charge restrictions to extend battery life and protect against potential damage, and charging rates slowing down as the maximum charge is reached.
Rapid 200kW. 31 mins 0-80%
Rapid 50kW 2 hours 0-80%
Fast 22kW 10 hours 0-100%
Fast 7kW 15 hours 0-100%
Slow 3kW 31 hours 0-100%
The Mercedes-Benz EQS is fitted with an 11 kW on-board charger for Type 2 AC charging as standard. This means that even when connected to a fast charger with a rated output above 11 kW, the Mercedes-Benz EQS will only be able to charge at up to 11 kW. Mercedes-Benz EQS models are capable of ultra-rapid charging at up to 100 kW DC.
Use Zap-Map’s Home Charging Calculator to estimate charging times for a Mercedes-Benz EQS. The level of battery charge, connector speed, and on-board charger options can be tailored to your requirements for more accurate results.
How much does it cost to charge a Mercedes-Benz EQS?
The table shown below shows estimates of the cost to charge the Mercedes-Benz EQS’s 108 kWh battery at home (on a domestic tariff) or using a rapid charge point. Cost estimates are dependent on the charge remaining, usable battery capacity, and age of battery pack. Cost per mile is calculated using an estimate of real-world range.
Type: Home Cost/kWh: 16 p/kWh Cost to charge: £17.30 Cost per mile: 4.2 p/mile
Type:Public Rapid Cost/kWh: 30 p/kWh to 80% charge Cost to charge: £25.90 Cost per mile: 7.9 p/mile

2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 - A Glorious Exhaust Note
What's New for 2023?
The first mid-engine Corvette Z06 will begin production in the summer of 2022 and go on sale thereafter as a 2023 model. As is tradition, the Z06 is a more hardcore, track-focused version of the standard Vette, complete with bolder styling cues and serious performance attributes.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
Z06 $90,000 (est)
Chevy hasn't officially revealed the new Corvette Z06's pricing yet, so we can only speculate on how much it'll cost. Its front-engine predecessor started at about $25,000 more than the base model, so we think it's safe to add that number to the starting price of the 2022 Corvette, which starts at around $62k. That means the 2023 Z06 will likely open at around $90,000 when it eventually goes on sale.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The new Corvette Z06 receives a special engine that should make it sound similar to the supercars it's trying to dethrone. Its naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V-8 features a flat-plane crank and revs to 8600 rpm. The engine produces 670 horsepower and has a Ferrari-like howl that'll send shivers down the spine of bystanders. The unconventional V-8 hooks up to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. A set of wider, stickier tires and more powerful brakes should help it corner harder and stop shorter than the regular Vette. Chevy also strengthens the structure and transforms the Z06's chassis to ensure its performance advantages are most obvious at the racetrack. To unlock its full potential, there's an optional Z07 package that adds aerodynamic elements, reduces weight, and further upgrades the brakes and tires. The car comes standard with 20-inch front and 21-inch rear forged aluminum wheels, but a set of lighter and stronger carbon-fiber rollers are optional.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The Bow Tie brand went above and beyond to ensure that the mid-engine Corvette's interior could not be called boring. While the design certainly transcends what's found on every other Chevy model, the square steering wheel and wall of climate-control buttons on the center console are unusual elements, to say the least. Still, the cabin layout caters to the driver, and the list of standard and optional features is extensive. It includes a digital gauge cluster, a head-up display, heated and ventilated seats, and even wireless phone charging. Its track-worthiness is made more apparent inside with microsuede accents and more aggressively bolstered seats as well as two carbon-fiber-intensive interior packages. The Corvette's capacious rear trunk should continue to provide a spot for drivers to carry two sets of golf clubs.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class Driving And Interior
Overview
Following the introduction of the redesigned C-class sedan, Mercedes-Benz has performed a similar makeover on the 2023 GLC-class SUV. Mechanically similar to the sedan—and like the sedan equally hard to tell from its predecessor—the 2023 GLC shares the C-class's standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine, 48-volt hybrid system, and nine-speed automatic transmission; a plug-in hybrid model will join the lineup later on. The GLC’s interior gains the same tech upgrades as the C-class sedan’s, including the large, vertically-oriented touchscreen infotainment display and advanced driver-assistance features. The styling makeover has resulted in subtle visual differences between the new GLC and the old one, but a longer wheelbase and slight stretch in overall length is said to improve cargo and passenger space, albeit only slightly. We expect to see the 2023 GLC-class SUV on sale in early 2023.
What's New for 2023?
The GLC-class is all-new for 2023 and although the outgoing model was offered in both a squareback and fastback “coupe” body style, so far Mercedes has only showed the former.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
GLC300 $45,000 (est)
GLC300 4Matic $47,000 (est)
Mercedes-Benz hasn't released pricing for the 2023 GLC-class lineup yet, but we expect it to be offered in both rear- and all-wheel-drive variants. When we learn more about the SUV's pricing and features, we'll report that information here.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
All 2023 GLC-class models will wear the GLC300 badge and are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. A 48-volt hybrid system helps augment the powertrain, which is good for 258 horsepower. A nine-speed automatic transmission is standard as is rear drive, and Mercedes’s 4Matic all-wheel drive system is optional. We liked the GLC300 we sampled on our introductory drive.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The EPA hasn’t released fuel economy estimates for the 2023 GLC-class SUV yet, but we expect to see similar numbers to the outgoing model and the Benz’s key rivals. The 2022 model was rated for 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. When we get a chance, we’ll take the GLC300 on our 75-mph highway fuel economy test route and publish its results here. For more information about the GLC-class’s fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The GLC-class’s cabin wears nicely chosen upscale materials and a modernized design with more interestingly-shaped air vents on the dashboard and heavily digitized control of the infotainment and HVAC systems. A new steering wheel features touch-sensitive control buttons, which didn’t work particularly well in the C300 sedan, and all models come standard with heated front seats with memory settings and adjustable lumbar support. Ambient lighting, a power-operated sunroof, and a power rear liftgate are also standard. Like other Mercedes models, the GLC-class can be heavily optioned with a host of luxurious features, including a panoramic sunroof, illuminated door sill plates, ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, and leather upholstery.

2022 Nissan Frontier Overview
Overview
The 2022 Nissan Frontier is fashionably late to the modern mid-size-pickup party, but its bold bodywork and adoption of popular technology could make it the new hotness. With a futuristic face and blistered fenders inspired by the original Nissan "Hardbody" compact trucks, the freshly designed Frontier no longer looks like a blast from the past–its predecessor went largely unchanged for 16 years. Likewise, the new generation's interior goes from drab to pretty damn nice thanks to a more stylish layout and additional features. Power is provided by a 310-hp V-6 that pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission and rear- or four-wheel drive. Off-road enthusiasts will also appreciate the Pro-4X trim that has a beefier suspension, an electronic locking rear differential, and other rugged add-ons.
What's New for 2022?
After waiting for more than a decade and a half, Nissan finally reveals the third-generation Frontier for the 2022 model year. Sure, it still rides on a frame that dates back to the early 2000s, but the suspension has been revised and the rest of the truck is considerably improved.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
S $29,985
SV $31,690
Pro-X $35,390
Pro-4X $38,390
We think the SV trim level has the best mix of standard features and value. Our ideal version starts with the crew cab—the larger of the two available cab sizes—and four-wheel drive. This combination adds $4600 to the bottom line. An 8.0-inch touchscreen (including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) and a six-way power-adjustable driver's seat are standard, but we'd upgrade our truck with the Convenience and Technology packages. Together they add adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automated emergency braking, heated front seats and steering wheel, a trailer hitch, lights in the cargo bed, and a spray-in bedliner.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The 2022 Frontier inherits Nissan's new naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V-6, which made its debut on the last-generation 2020 model. The engine generates 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque. It pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission and rear- or four-wheel drive. Our first driving impressions revealed that the Frontier's V-6 provides adequate thrust and smooth operation. We drove the off-road-oriented Pro-4X model that's ready and willing to tackle rugged terrain, even if it's not as capable as the lifted Chevy Colorado ZR2 or the Jeep Gladiator. We also appreciated the Nissan's new quicker and more direct steering and the myriad other chassis enhancements that have helped the truck feel more composed and refined on the go.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Thankfully, the new Frontier delivers an interior design and materials that look like a big improvement over the outdated and plastic-laden cabin that plagued its predecessor. Not only did Nissan add snazzier trim pieces and soft-touch surfaces that were much needed, the company also introduced more contemporary features. The gauge cluster now offsets its analog gauges with a larger 7.0-inch color display. A heated steering wheel and heated front seats are also available. Speaking of seats, the Frontier continues to comfort our backsides with Nissan's supple Zero Gravity thrones. Interior cubby storage includes a bin on top of the dashboard and a place to store items under the back seat. The truck offers two wheelbase lengths that provide a short and long cargo bed, with the former measuring just under 5 feet and the latter extending just over 6 feet.

2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV
Overview
Although it shares its electric powertrain with the brash GMC Hummer EV, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV resembles a more classic take on the electric pickup truck. An available midgate design allows users to fold down the wall between the bed and the cab for additional storage space, a feature that some may find reminiscent of the now-discontinued Avalanche pickup truck from the early 2000s. A large battery pack is said to provide up to 400 miles of range per charge and DC fast-charging tech can juice the battery with 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes. Dual electric motors provide standard all-wheel drive and up to 664-hp, and the Silverado EV will be capable of towing up to 10,000 pounds and hauling up to 1300 pounds of payload. Chevrolet hasn't released full specs and information about the pickup, but has said it will build it in Michigan at the same plant that will build Hummers. When it goes on sale, the Silverado EV will face stiff competition from the Ford F-150 Lightning as well as upstart offerings such as the Rivian R1T and the Tesla Cybertruck.
What's New for 2024?
The Silverado EV will be new to the Chevrolet lineup and is expected to debut as a 2024 model and go on sale sometime in 2023.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
WT $42,000 (est)
LT $50,000 (est)
LTZ $75,000 (est)
Trail Boss $85,000 (est)
High Country $90,000 (est)
RST $107,000 (est)
At launch, the Silverado EV will be offered in price-leader Work Truck (WT) guise as well as in off-road Trail Boss and loaded RST trims, but Chevy says mid-range trims will be added later to round-out the lineup. The WT model will sell for $39,900 before destination, but lacks many of the truck's coolest features. Instead, we'd aim high for the Trail Boss or RST or wait for a nicely-equipped mid-range trim to become available.
EV Motor, Power, and Performance
Unlike the Hummer EV, which comes with up to three electric motors, the Silverado EV will be powered by two. The setup should still provide robust acceleration performance and, in the top-spec RST, Chevrolet claims a horsepower rating of at least 664 hp; the base WT trim makes do with 510 hp. All-wheel drive is standard as is a four-wheel steering system. Buyers of the RST model will find that their truck comes with an adaptive air suspension; a set of huge, cool-looking 24-inch wheels is optional. The Trail Boss model will likely add locking differentials, meaty all-terrain tires, and other adventure-ready items to the Silverado EV's suspension. When we get a chance to test drive the Silverado EV, we'll update this story with driving impressions.

2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale Hybrid
So far we've only had a chance to sample a European model, which was powered by a weaker hybrid powertrain than what we'll get here in North America. We'll have to wait to drive a U.S.-spec model to prove Alfa's claims, but the brand promises a driving experience that will remain true to its "race-inspired DNA".
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Inside, the circular air vents and the dashboard's driver-centric layout are clearly evolved from the Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan and the Stelvio SUV. The dash also features a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and its three-spoke steering wheel puts a modern spin on a classic design. A pair of prominent paddle shifters are available, too. The interior is appointed with a mix of aluminum trim as well as leather and microsuede surfaces. The front seats look particularly supportive, and they're also stylish, with red contrast stitching and Alfa Romeo crests on the headrests.

2023 Subaru Solterra – What to Expect Servicing Your First EV
Overview
The 2023 Subaru Solterra is the brand's first EV, and it features hallmarks such as standard all-wheel drive. Subaru teamed up with Toyota to co-develop the platform for this compact SUV, which is also set to underpin the forthcoming Toyota bZ4X as well as other future models. The Solterra offers some neat off-road tricks and lots of standard driver assists, and it has estimated driving ranges between 222 and 228 miles. While the 2023 Solterra currently doesn't face much competition in the non-luxury EV compact-ute segment, the landscape could drastically change in the next year or so.
What's New for 2023?
The Solterra is the first chance Subaru fans have at finding a fully electric model in the lineup. Previously, the plug-in-hybrid Crosstrek had been the only semi-electric option. For the 2023 model year, Subaru says it will only build 6500 Solterras.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
Premium $46,220
Limited $49,720
Touring $53,220
Subaru hasn't announced pricing for the 2023 Solterra, but we expect it to closely align with the Toyota bZ4X, which we think will start in the high $30,000s or low $40,000s. Once we know how much the Subie will cost and learn more about its different trim levels and available features we can recommend which one to buy.
EV Motor, Power, and Performance
Along with the fact that the Solterra is powered exclusively by electricity, it has an all-wheel-drive system utilizing two electric motors that generate a combined 215 horsepower and 249 pound-feet of torque. That power can be deployed differently depending on the drive mode, of which there are four: Eco, Normal, Power, and X-mode, which is intended to help in slippery conditions or on uneven terrain by independently modulating the power to each wheel. For those interested in taking the Solterra off-road, it has 8.3 inches of ground clearance and a "Grip Control" feature that's essentially a low-speed cruise control. The paddles on the steering wheel allow the regenerative-braking force to be adjusted. The version we drove on some Arizona ORV trails proved plenty capable, and we were even able to spin a doughnut on a non-paved surface thanks to the ability to fully deactivate stability control along with the fact that the Solterra's can distribute 60 percent of its torque to the rear axle.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
Subaru says the gross capacity of the Solterra's battery pack is 72.8-kWh. We're told models on 18-inch wheels have a range of 228 miles, while models on 20s are rated at 222 miles. Plugged into a Level 2 charging station, Subaru says the Solterra's onboard 6.6-kWh charger can recharge the battery in nine hours. Hook it up to a 100-kW DC fast-charger and an 80-percent charge is claimed to take about 56 minutes.
Fuel-Economy and Real-World MPGe
The 2023 Solterra is expected to earn up to a combined 94 MPGe. Once we get the opportunity to run one on our 75-mph fuel-economy route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen, we can assess its real-world MPGe. For more information about the Solterra's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The Solterra's interior features a high-mounted digital gauge cluster, a big touchscreen for the infotainment system, and an elevated center console with what looks like a rotary shift knob. The steep windshield, large side glass, and panoramic sunroof appear to give the cabin an airy feel. The mix of attractive textures throughout also contributes to a fetching aesthetic. Along with the various storage spots, including the large bin under the center console, the Solterra makes for a useful travel companion with up to 30 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded flat.

2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE - Scenic Test Drive
Overview
Think of the all-electric 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan as a smaller, albeit similarly distinctive, version of the Mercedes EQS. Both models basically represent electrified alternatives to the brand's conventional E-class and S-class models. The EQE's slippery bodywork and spacious cabin share styling cues with the larger EQS, and it's available with equally impressive features, including a screen that extends across the full width of the instrument panel called the Hyperscreen. The EQE fills the space between Tesla's compact Model 3 and mid-size Model S. The electric Mercedes is expected to have a driving range of over 300 miles as well as fast-charging capabilities that allow it to charge its battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes. The single-motor, rear-drive EQE350+ debuts first with 288 horsepower, but the 402-hp EQE500, with dual motors and all-wheel drive, will follow.
What's New for 2023?
The EQE is new to the Mercedes-Benz lineup and will slot in below the larger and more luxurious EQS. We expect it to arrive in U.S. showrooms sometime in late 2022.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
EQE350+ $70,000 (est)
EQE500 $85,000 (est)
Mercedes hasn't said how much the EQE will cost, but we expect its starting price will be about $70,000 when it eventually goes on sale.
EV Motor, Power, and Performance
With a single electric motor mounted on its rear axle, the EQE350+ generates 288 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. Mercedes says this setup will allow the sedan to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds on its way to an estimated top speed of 130 mph. An all-wheel-drive version EQE500 will be offered with a second electric motor powering the front wheels and producing 402 horses. Both configurations will be available with an air suspension and a rear-wheel-steering system for what should be a very smooth ride and improved maneuverability in tight spaces. We experienced the quietness and swiftness of the EQE350+ during our first drive. A set of 19-inch wheels are standard, but we expect larger rims to be offered, likely with the optional AMG Line appearance package.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
The EQE350 features a 90.6-kWh battery pack that's expected to provide a driving range of more than 300 miles. Mercedes says the battery can be charged from 10 to 100 percent in 9.5 hours using a 240-volt Level 2 charger. Plugging the EQE350 into a DC fast-charger is said to charge its battery from 10 to 80 percent in 31 minutes, according to Mercedes.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Inside, the EQE combines an elegant design with rich materials as well as generous passenger space and cubby storage. The environment looks exponentially more futuristic when fitted with the optional Hyperscreen, which turns the dashboard into a giant glass panel with multiple digital displays. A floating center console separates the front seats, which come standard with heated and ventilated cushions. These thrones can also be upgraded with massage functions. Every EQE has a panoramic sunroof and customizable ambient interior lighting that traces the dash and doors, creating a distinct aesthetic when lit. Unfortunately, while we love the interior's lovely aesthetic, we wish the sedan's outward visibility was better. Its cabin can be further decked out with options such as a head-up display, four-zone climate control, and front doors that can be opened and closed automatically. The EQE's skateboard-like electric platform is a boon to packaging, providing comfortable passenger accommodations and competitive cargo capacity.

2023 Maserati MC20 Cielo - World Premiere
When Maserati introduced the MC20 last year, we knew it would also create a convertible version of its junior supercar. What we couldn’t know until now, with the first official images you see here, is that the MC20 Cielo would be this handsome. Driving manners are certainly important in this part of the market, but so is design—and regardless of the dynamic experience, the decapitated MC20 is a spectacularly good-looking car.
The Cielo is not a conventional roadster, instead carrying a folding two-piece roof beneath the power-opening rear clamshell compartment. While heavy retractable hardtops have become less fashionable in recent years, as more luxury makers return to lighter fabric roofs, the MC20’s has a cool trick. It's constructed from dimmable electrochromic glass that can be turned from clear to opaque using electrical current. The ability to see through a clear canopy (as well as remove it) inspired the car’s name: Cielo is Italian for sky. Maserati says that the roof can be opened and closed in a relatively speedy 12 seconds and that the Cielo weighs just 143 pounds more than its coupe sibling. For reference, Maserati claims a weight of 3307 pounds for the coupe, but our test car tipped the scales at 3757 pounds.
The Cielo shares its carbon-fiber tub with the MC20 coupe, and is mechanically unchanged, using the same innovative Nettuno twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 which features both a dry sump and Maserati’s pre-chamber combustion system. It produces 621 hp at 7500 rpm and accompanies this with 538 pound-feet of torque from just 3000 rpm. Drive is delivered to the rear axle through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Maserati claims the Cielo will accelerate to 62 mph in approximately 3.0 seconds and to 124 mph in 9.2 seconds. For reference, our test of the MC20 coupe resulted in a slightly less impressive 60 mph sprint of 3.2-seconds and a quarter-mile time of 11.0 seconds at 131 mph; we’d anticipate the Spyder to be a couple of tenths slower through both benchmarks. Top speed is claimed to be 199 mph.
While roadster versions of supercars are often forced to sacrifice the snazzy doors of their permanently roofed siblings, the Cielo keeps the coupe’s butterfly opening doors. These rotate and hinge upwards to both ease access and make sure that every eye is turned whenever you get in and out. Drivers will be able to cycle through five dynamic modes through the rotary controller in the center of the cockpit. It changes color to indicate which one has been selected: Wet (green), GT (blue), Sport (red), Corsa, (yellow) and ESC OFF (orange).
The Cielo gets some other revisions that are also being integrated into the 2023 MC20 coupe. These include a new suite of active safety systems, with a 360-degree camera, traffic sign recognition, and autonomous emergency braking in addition to blind-spot monitoring. It will also be available with the new color seen in these images, Acquamarina, which will be available exclusively on the Primaserie first edition.
We don’t have pricing details yet, although we anticipate the Cielo will carry a sizeable supplement over the Coupe’s $216,995 starting price. We also suspect a significant percentage of buyers will be prepared to pay this for the breezier thrills of this beautiful roadster.

2023 Lexus RX
Overview
Lexus’s RX SUV has remained a big seller despite being in need of a redesign for some time— but the wait will soon be over. An all-new generation is being launched for 2023 to replace the previous seven-year-old model. A quartet of powertrains will be on offer including a new plug-in hybrid version. The RX’s new styling looks much sharper than the outgoing model’s. Up front, there’s a new version of the brand’s wide-mouthed grille and Lexus’s recognizable L-shaped running lights, and out back is a full-width taillight bar. Interior accommodations are more deluxe this time around, and the cabin features a large 14.0-inch infotainment touchscreen and the latest tech features. The outgoing model was offered in either two- or three-row configurations but the 2023 RX has been shown only as a two-row model. A three-row variant may join the lineup later or Lexus may choose to launch a new, larger SUV above the RX with a standard seven-seat layout.
What's New for 2023?
The RX rolls into its fifth generation with an all-new design. Lexus says it will go on sale in late 2022 as a 2023 model.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
RX350 $50,000 (est)
RX350 F Sport $52,000 (est)
RX350h $58,000 (est)
RX350h F Sport $60,000 (est)
RX450h+ $65,000 (est)
RX500h F Sport Performance $70,000 (est)
Until Lexus releases more information on pricing and features, we’ll hold off making a recommendation. But if our speculation is correct, the RX will be offered with a broad range of powertrains as well as in regular and F Sport trims. The sportiest model will be the RX500h F Sport Performance trim, which gets a 367-hp hybrid powertrain with standard all-wheel drive.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The 2023 RX will be offered with no less than four different powertrains, starting with the base RX350 model which is powered by a 275-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. That model comes with an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive as standard, but all-wheel drive is an option. The hybrid RX350h pairs electric motors with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine to make 246 horsepower and comes with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and all-wheel drive. Stepping up to the RX500h F Sport Performance combines the turbocharged 2.5-liter and electric power to make 367 horsepower; it utilizes Lexus’s Direct4 system to route that power to all four wheels. A plug-in hybrid model—dubbed RX450h+—will join the lineup later, and although Lexus hasn’t released specs on that yet, we expect to see the same 302-hp powertrain that’s offered in the Toyota RAV4 Prime and Lexus NX450h+SUVs.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Although the outgoing model was offered in both two- and three-row configurations, the 2023 RX has so far only been shown as a two-row, five-seat SUV. A three-row model may debut later or the RX L could be replaced by an entirely different and larger SUV with a standard third row of seats. The 2023 RX’s interior design is more modern than the 2022 model, with textured fabric sections on the upper door panels, rich-looking ambient lighting, and open-pore wood trim on RX350 models. The RX500h F Sport Performance features more heavily bolstered front seats, black interior trim, steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters, and aluminum pedals.
