Why You Should Add Baking Soda to Coffee
Nothing will improve your morning coffee more than a spoonful of baking soda! It's all about the pH.
Let's go back to middle school science class for a second. The pH scale measures how acidic something is, from 0 to 14. The lower the pH, the more acidic it is, and the higher, the more alkaline it is. Substances with a pH of 7 or higher are non-acidic, also called bases. Something very acidic like lemon juice is a 2 on the scale. In contrast, baking soda is a 9, so it qualifies as a base. As a base, baking soda can be added to acidic substances to neutralize their acidity. This is why, when dissolved in water, baking soda is a natural antacid remedy. This alkalinity is what makes baking soda in coffee so good for you.
There are many benefits of adding baking soda to an acidic cup of coffee. Baking soda is the perfect solution to counteract the acid reflux (or GERD), indigestion, and heartburn caused by the acid in coffee, as its alkalinity will offset the coffee's acidity. This is also a useful trick for those with stomach ulcers, since baking soda neutralizes stomach acid as well. Baking soda in coffee is especially helpful if you like black coffee or espresso since these coffee drinks will be more acidic than other options. If you have digestive issues or a sensitive stomach, a small pinch of sodium bicarbonate will help coffee lovers drink quality coffee without stomach issues.
So, the next time you brew your coffee, consider adding a smidge of baking soda. You can either add a half teaspoon to a pot of coffee before brewing or add a pinch to your cup of joe before you drink it. You don't need much baking soda for the desired result, and you also want to ensure that your coffee doesn't lose its flavor. Nothing beats a drink as delicious as it is good for you!
1. Nothing will improve your morning coffee more than a spoonful of baking soda!
2. Scientifically known as a base, sodium bicarbonate counteracts the acid in the coffee beans which usually cause digestive issues.
3. Benefits of adding baking soda to coffee include counteracting acid reflux, indigestion, and heartburn.
4. To add baking soda to coffee, add half a teaspoon to an entire pot of coffee or a pinch into a single mug.
5. Baking soda is also great mixed with water to make a natural antacid remedy.
6. As well as a fridge deodorizer.
7. What do you add to your coffee?

How to Make Texas Kolaches
It may come as a surprise that one of the most Texan dishes out there was brought to the Lone Star State by Czech immigrants. Kolaches can be sweet or savory; you might find these Czech pastries filled with cream cheese or apricot or blueberry fruit filling topped with powdered sugar, or with a poppy seed filling.
In the 1950s, Village Bakery in West, Texas, put an even more American spin on the kolache recipe with the creation of the klobasniky, or a sausage kolache. It looks a little like the breakfast version of a pig-in-a-blanket, but this savory kolache recipe is so much better.
The kolache starts with a basic pastry dough like a donut. A stand mixer with a dough hook makes the process much easier, but you can also mix everything by kneading it in a large bowl. 12 sections are rolled out into a rectangle and topped with shredded cheddar cheese, jalapeño slices, and a cooked sausage link then rolled back up and placed on a baking sheet, seam-side down.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the kolache on the baking sheet. While the oven preheats, let the kolache rest, then bake until golden brown. While they're going to smell amazing, give the pastries a chance to cool before you try them because they are going to be hot, hot, hot! Serve this doughnut with a side of mustard.

How to Cook Kick Ass Chicken Thighs | Grill Girl | Wide Open Eats
I gotta agree with 'Grill Girl' Robyn Lindars here: Chicken thighs are the superior poultry protein when it comes to grilling. Keep your chicken breasts because grilling chicken is all about the dark meat. According to Lindars, who runs grilling seminars for women, many women ask her about cooking BBQ chicken breasts, where she suggests grilled chicken thighs are the way to go. Crispy, juicy, and cheaper to prepare, boneless chicken thighs are a great alternative to breasts whether it is for a weeknight meal or a large gathering.

The Holiday's Aren't Complete Without a Bacon Wrapped Turkey
What if we told you that turkey could be even more delicious this year? This year, the way to enjoy your turkey is by wrapping it in an indulgent layer of crispy bacon. Wow your guests this year with a flavorful Bacon-wrapped turkey.
This bacon-wrapped turkey recipe will revolutionize your Thanksgiving meal! As much as we all love turkey, it does have a tendency to be on the drier side at times. This bacon adds the flavor and crispiness to make this bacon-wrapped turkey the tastiest Thanksgiving turkey you've ever had.
First, preheat your oven temperature to 375°. Chop your onion, then rinse your fresh turkey with cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Stuff the turkey's cavity with thyme, rosemary, and apple, then tie legs together with twine and tuck in the wings.
Melt butter, and combine with seasonings in a medium bowl, stirring until fully mixed. Brush turkey with herb butter mixture, covering the whole turkey. If you want, you can use a turkey breast in place of a whole roast turkey. A Bacon-wrapped turkey breast is sure to get some oohs and ahhs!
Place turkey in a roasting pan, and then place strips of bacon on turkey. Weave slices of bacon together until you've created a fully covered bacon-wrapped turkey!
Bake for 3 hours, or until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the turkey's thigh is 165°. If you prefer to baste your turkey, do so about every 20 minutes throughout cooking time to ensure juicy, moist turkey meat. Check bacon-wrapped turkey after 2 hours and cover with foil if bacon is getting too dark.
Once finished cooking, let your bacon wrapped turkey rest at room temperature until cooled enough to eat. Carve turkey on a turkey cutting board, with a juice groove to collect excess liquids. Then enjoy this crispy, delicious Thanksgiving meal!

Bring These Tequila-Soaked Watermelon Wedges to Every Party
Thirst-quenching and oh so delicious, snacking on watermelon chunks is one of the highlights of the summer season. While you can enjoy it a number of ways (cut up in a salad with feta and cucumbers, lightly salted with sea salt) the one technique you have to try is soaking it with tequila. The taste of watermelon margaritas has never been better.
How To Make Tequila Soaked Watermelon
To start, grab everything you need. This includes a small seedless watermelon, triple sec, sugar, tequila (readers suggest blanco tequila or silver tequila), fresh lime juice, and coarse sea salt. You'll also need a small saucepan and a baking sheet large enough to arrange the wedges in a single layer.
Once you have cut the watermelon into 1-inch thick wedges, move over to the simple syrup. In the original recipe, Martha suggests boiling all of the ingredients together, however, to minimize the alcohol evaporation we suggest adding the sugar and water to the saucepan and bringing it to a boil. Once the sugar seems to have dissolved, add in the triple sec and tequila.
Let the syrup cool slightly and pour syrup over the watermelon wedges and refrigerate for 45 minutes. Some readers suggest placing the watermelon on a popsicle stick and placing it in the freezer until frozen if you are feeling like something cooler.
Once the watermelon has infused, place it on a serving platter and squeeze limes on the wedges and sprinkle with salt as a garnish. Add some mint leaves or a jalapeno slice if you are feeling frisky! It's an appetizer that your friends will be begging you to make every day, I guarantee it.

How to Preserve Fresh Basil
5 Ways to Preserve Fresh Basil Leaves
Your basil plant won't survive the winter in most areas in the United States. So what are you to do with all the fresh herbs in your garden? Thankfully there are a few different ways to preserve the fresh taste of basil. From freezing basil to making a puree with it, here's 5 ways to preserve fresh basil.
1. Freeze Basil Leaves
You can simply freeze the whole basil leaves or chop them and store them in a container or freezer bag, but keep in mind that they might shrink a little. These leaves are perfect in tomato sauce.
Remove basil leaves from the stem and toss them in a pot with boiling water for 3-5 seconds.
Remove with a slotted spoon and immediately transfer the leaves to a bowl of ice cold water.
Dry the leaves completely and store them in a freezer-safe container or plastic bag.
2.Make Basil Cubes
Chop fresh basil leaves in the food processor and drizzle in enough olive oil to form a paste. Spoon the mixture into an ice cube tray, freeze, and store the delicious flavor cubes in a freezer-safe container or plastic bag.
3. Make Pesto Cubes
Make your favorite pesto recipe in a food processor or mortar and pestle and pour the mixture into an ice cube tray and freeze.
4. Dry Basil Leaves
Remove basil leaves from the stem, wash, and pat dry with a paper towel.
Set your oven to the lowest temperature and place the basil leaves in a single layer on a baking sheet.
Bake the leaves for 2-4 hours until they're completely dried out and crumbly.
Crumble the leaves with your hands and store in an airtight container or mason jars.
5. Make Basil Vinegar
Place 3-4 basil springs into a bottle of vinegar and let it sit at room temperature for about two weeks, gently shaking the bottle every couple of days.

This Chipped Beef Recipe is Known as S.O.S By Veterans
Veterans and military families alike can tell you one thing: shit on a shingle makes for a delicious lunch or dinner. While it may not sound appetizing, this chipped beef recipe loaded with creamy gravy is comfort food on a plate. Atlas Obscura shares the unofficial term became popular during WW II when the military dish was served to soldiers. The first recipe for the creamed beef on toast comes from the 1910 Manual for Army Cooks and uses beef stock, evaporated milk, parsley, flour, butter, and dried beef. During World War II, soldiers used chipped beef in place of dried.
Once home from the war, soldiers craved the shit on a shingle recipe and shared it with their families, creating home recipes that got passed down. Instead of serving this SOS recipe in the mess halls, families enjoyed it around the dinner table. My dad who was in the Air Force shared that this dish brings back memories of his childhood kitchen.
How to Make Chipped Beef on Toast
Chop your chipped beef roughly and set it aside. If you are sensitive to salt, rinse the beef.
Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook the roux for a minute. Whisk in the milk gradually and season with ground nutmeg, ground onion powder, ground garlic powder, a few drops of Worcestershire sauce, and a squirt of mustard. Cook until thick and season the white sauce with black pepper. Stir in the chipped beef and set the heat to low.
Meanwhile, toast your bread. Once toasted, top with the beef mixture and sprinkle with parsley.
You can also make this creamed chipped beef recipe with ground beef, cooking the beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat until browned and no longer pink. Traditionally this hamburger gravy is served on toast but you can serve it over mashed potatoes or use it in a breakfast casserole.
Whether you are a Marine, or in the Navy, this cream sauce is an every day favorite served alongside hash browns.
