Robert Duvall Lives on a 300-Acre Horse Farm in Rural Virginia
Actor Robert Duvall is undoubtedly one of the greatest performers of our time. After a celebrated career as an icon in Hollywood, Duvall might be best remembered for many of his western and southern film roles -- A Night in Old Mexico, Lonesome Dove, Tender Mercies and Wild Horses to name a few.
Duvall spent most of his time growing up in Annapolis, Maryland as his father was an admiral in the Navy. Though he realized early on that he was interested in the performing arts, Duvall briefly followed his father's footsteps to serve his country. After graduating from Principia College with a Bachelor's degree in Drama, he joined the Army but he only served for a year.
In 1955, Duvall moved to New York City to pursue an acting career. He was in good company too, his classmates included Dustin Hoffman, Gene Hackman, and James Caan. He was even roommates with Hoffman and Hackman. For the next four years, Duvall had a steady career on the stage before his television debut on Armstrong Circle Theater. A few years later he made his film debut as Boo Radley in To Kill A Mockingbird.
Duvall went on to win an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in the 1983 film, Tender Mercies as Mac Sledge, a country music singer recovering from alcoholism. In the film, he tries to rebuild his life in Texas.
Across his career he has been nominated for six other Oscars for his roles in Coppola's The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, The Great Santini, The Apostle, A Civil Action, and The Judge. He's won two Emmy Awards and four Golden Globes including one for his role in the classic miniseries Lonesome Dove. Duvall told the Wall Street Journal that playing former Texas Ranger Captain Augustus "Gus" McCrae is his favorite role he's ever played.
To say that he has had an incredibly diverse career is an understatement. Similar to Meryl Streep, Duvall really can jump from one role to something completely different and master it completely. He played General Robert E. Lee (who is rumored to be a distant relative on his mother's side) in Gods and Generals. He even played soccer coach opposite Will Ferrell in the comedy Kicking & Screaming. From Oscar-nominated films to campy comedies, the man has done everything. Including going to space as an astronaut in Deep Impact.
These days, Duvall has chosen to live life at a slower pace away from the chaos of Hollywood. He lives with his fourth wife, Luciana at their horse ranch in Virginia. Duvall met his wife in Argentina (fun fact, he's a skilled tango dancer) and they've been together since 1997.
Duvall spends all of his time at their ranch in Northern Virginia’s Fauquier County unless he has to fly to Los Angeles or New York for work purposes. For over 25 years, he has commuted from his 360 acres in the beautiful hills of Virginia. But with all of that property and a 270-year-old farmhouse to call his own, can you blame him?
According to TODAY correspondent Jill Rappaport, the scene is right out of a book.
"This 360-acre gentleman’s farm (as he puts it) is the next stop before heaven! It boasts beautiful fields, hundred-year-old willow trees, an incredible pond and a stone manor that made me feel like I was on the set of 'Gone With the Wind.'"

Loretta Lynn's Siblings: Then and Now
Loretta Lynn has been an icon of country music for going on 60 years. The coal miner's daughter has multiple gold records and Grammys to her name and, along with country stars like Dolly Parton and Patsy Cline, is one of the first women of the genre and a member of both the Grand Ole Opry and The Country Music Hall of Fame. Heck she's even won a Presidential Medal of Freedom. She is a country legend. Full stop. But don't worry, she's "still a mountain girl." And a honky tonk girl. And the Van Lear rose.
Lynn was actually born Loretta Webb on April 14th, 1932, in the small town of Butcher Hollow, Kentucky, the oldest daughter of Melvin "Ted" Webb (her coal-mining father) and Clara Marie "Clary" (née Ramey). Though Loretta Lynn may be the most well known of the Webb clan, and the only one portrayed by Sissy Spacek in a movie, she isn't the only member of it, or the only famous one! Turns out she is one of eight! And several of Lynn's siblings have made names for themselves and all of them have interesting life stories.
Melvin Webb Jr. (December 4, 1929 – July 1, 1993)
Loretta Lynn was the second oldest sibling in the Webb family. Melvin Junior, named for his father, of course, was born first in the old Butcher Holler. Melvin married Bonnie Faye Webb and had nine (wow) children with her. Junior had more than a proclivity for procreation in common with his father, unfortunately. Melvin Webb Jr. died relatively young, at the age of 63, just like Melvin Sr., who passed away from black lung at the age of 52.
Herman Webb (September 3, 1934 – July 28, 2018)
Loretta Lynn just recently lost her nearest kid brother, Herman, who was born two years after she was. He passed away in 2018 at the age of 83. Herman stayed close to home after growing up, making a life in Van Lear, Kentucky. Herman also curated the Butcher Hollow homestead where he and his siblings grew up. The home was made famous by Lynn's song, "Coal Miner's Daughter", giving tours to the thousands of Loretta Lynn fans who made the pilgrimage every year.
Herman lived a full life beyond giving tours of the homestead, though. He had three daughters with his wife Patsy Jean, who passed before him, as well as six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Herman's other famous sibling, Crystal Gayle, paid tribute to him on Instagram after he passed.
Willie "Jay" Lee Webb (February 12, 1937 – July 31, 1996)
Willie Lee Webb, called Jay Lee by his mom, was a famous country singer in his own right, just like his big sis Loretta. In fact, Jay Lee's most famous song was "I Come Home A-Drinkin' (To a Worn-Out Wife Like You)", which was written as a comeback to Loretta's 1967 number one hit "Don't Come Home A Drinkin'".
Jay Lee was married twice, first to Louise Davis from 1961 to 1963. Unfortunately, his first marriage was marked by tragedy and divorce. Louise gave birth to Jay Lee's first child, Yvonne Clara Webb, in February 1962, but in August 1962 Yvonne contracted tonsilitis and died a month later. Shortly after Louise filed for divorce.
Nearly a decade later Jay Lee finally met the love of his life while performing in Camden, Tennessee. He met Lou Anne Robinson and shortly after the two moved to Nashville together. They had two children together, John Ernest Webb and Claire Joanne Webb. Jay Lee left music behind and opened a drugstore. Lou Anne took up work as a secretary.
Unfortunately, Jay Lee, like his father and brother before him, left the world too soon. Jay Lee passed away from pancreatic cancer at the age of 59 in 1996.
Donald Ray Webb (April 2, 1941 – October 13, 2017)
Donald lived a quieter life than his more well-known siblings, though he was a songwriter in his own right. Donald's sister Gayle recorded a song he wrote, entitled, "Clock on the Wall," for the album I've Cried the Blue Right Out of My Eyes in 1978. (A fact that he was extremely proud of.) He was also an avid fisherman, loved playing and singing music (of course), and loved mushroom hunting.
Donald and his wife Debra made their home in Wabash, Indiana. They had four children together, Janie, Donna, Michael, and Paula. Donald was also a grandfather to ten and a great grandfather to nine!
Peggy Sue Wright (née Webb; born March 25, 1943)
Another one of the Webbs who took their talents to Nashville, Peggy Sue has released five country music albums: Dynamite!, All-American Husband, One Side, I Just Came in Here, and Gently Hold Me. Throughout the years she had several hits climb the country charts, peaking somewhere inside the Top 30 each time.
Peggy Sue married twice, first to Douglas Wells in 1964 (they divorced in 1968), and then to music producer and performer Sonny Wright. Peggy had one daughter from her first marriage, Doyletta Gayle. Tragically, Doyletta was murdered by her husband on February 22, 1991.
These days Peggy Sue does background vocals for her sister Crystal Gayle, though sometimes the two duet together. They've also been known to perform with Loretta from time to time for a concert at Lynn's Hurricane Mills, Tennessee ranch.
Betty Ruth Hopkins (née Webb; born 1946)
Not much is known about Betty, Loretta Lynn's second-youngest sister, who prefers to stay out of the spotlight. Loretta did name her oldest daughter Betty Sue after Betty, though.
Crystal Gayle (born Brenda Gail Webb; January 9, 1951)
In any other family, Crystal Gayle would be a superstar. Well,s he still is, but when you've got an entertainer of the year in the family, it's not easy to take the spotlight. Crystal was born after the family had moved to Wabash, Indiana for their father's failing health, so she didn't grow up in the famous Coal Miner's Daughter cabin.
Regardless, Crystal built herself quite a life and career. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, just like her older sister, in 2017. She's won a Grammy award, multiple American Music Awards, and was ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the hundred greatest country stars of all time.
Her biggest hits include "Ready for the Times to Get Better" (1977), "Talking in Your Sleep" (1978), "Half the Way" (1979), and "You and I" (1982).
Really, she's too big to be a footnote in someone else's article. Go read about her here!
Crystal married Bill Gatzimos in 1971 while she was in high school and the two have been together ever since. They have two (now adult) kids, daughter Catherine and son Christos. Christos is now a record producer in his own right and produced Crystal's 2019 album.

Meet Clint Eastwood's 8 Children
Clint Eastwoodis one of the most celebrated actors and filmmakers inHollywood. He first hit it big in the television seriesRawhideand playing the role of the "Man with No Name" in a series ofwesternfilms in the 1960s and has since gone on to winAcademy Awardsfor Best Picture and Best Director forUnforgivenandMillion Dollar Baby. While his professional life has continued to soar over the past 50 years, Eastwood's love life has been a little rocky over the years.
Across the span of 30 years, Eastwood has had eight children -- some from extramarital affairs, including a daughter he didn't even know about for 30 years.
Here are some things you probably didn't know about all ofClint Eastwood's children as well as his two ex-wives.
First Wife,MaggieJohnson
In 1953, Eastwood met a young U.C. Berkley student named Margaret Johnson. While waiting for his young girlfriend to graduate college, Eastwood spent some time inSeattle, Washington. It was here that he had a brief affair with an unidentified woman who became pregnant and gave the baby up for adoption. Eastwood and Johnson were engaged at the time and tied the knot just a few weeks before theSeattlewoman gave birth to her child with Eastwood.
Eastwood met actressSondra Lockewhile filmingThe Outlaw Josey Walesand Locke ended up moving in with the actor. Johnson moved to the couple's Pebble Beach home full time and it seems like this last affair was the final straw forMaggie. In 1978, Johnson realized that Locke was not like any of her husband's other affairs. Locke had been living with Eastwood for a few years at that point. It's estimated that Johnson's divorce payout was as high as $30 million, which she received in cash.
Second Wife,DinaEastwood
Eastwood ended his relationship withactressFrances Fisherin 1995, but the actor was already dating news anchorDinaRuiz, a woman 35 years younger than him. The couple was married the following year. It seemed like, after all of his relationships over the years, Eastwood had found the one.
Dinahad her own reality show with E! in 2012 calledMrs. Eastwood & Company, which followed her and her daughterMorganas well as step-daughterFrancesca. She also made appearances in a couple of her husband's films,Blood WorkandTrue Crime.Sadly in 2013,Dinafiled for divorce and said that she and Eastwood had already been living separately.
Kyle Eastwood
Kyle was thefirst childto come from Eastwood's marriage to Johnson in 1968.
Kyle had a small role alongside his father in the filmHonkytonk Manwhen he was a child. He had a few more acting roles, but he's really made a name for himself inHollywoodas a composer and musician. Some of his credits include his father's films,Million Dollar Baby,Gran TorinoandInvictus. He's also released nine studio albums.
AlisonEastwood
Alisonwas the second child of Eastwood and Johnson. Over the years she has had a stable acting career, most recently starring opposite her father inThe Mule. She also founded the Eastwood Ranch Foundation which saves pets from kill shelters while they wait to be adopted.
LaurieMurray(nowLaurieEastwood)
That baby Eastwood fathered inSeattle? That wasLaurie. When she was 34 years old,Lauriebecame curious about her biological parents. She found her birth certificate and it confirmed thatClint Eastwoodwas her father. Can you even imagine? Over the years she developed a close relationship with Eastwood and his other children. She even appeared on thered carpetwith him forThe Mule.
KimberEastwood
Six years into his marriage withMaggieJohnson, Eastwood was appearing on the TV showRawhide. It was on this show that he met a dancer andstuntwoman,Roxanne Tunis. Eastwood and Tunis began a 14-year affair that resulted in a daughter namedKimber.
Kimberhas gone on to become a producer and prominentmake-up artistinHollywood. She's even worked on some of her father's films includingThe Mule(like a few other Eastwood children).
Scott Eastwood
Eastwood was still living with his mistressSondra Lockewhen he started having an affair with aflight attendantnamedJacelyn Reeves, who gave birth to Scott.
Scott was originally born Scott Clinton Reeves, taking his mother's surname. When he decided to pursue an acting career he used Reeves to avoid any nepotism in using "Eastwood." He's gone on to have an incredibly successful film career and has starred in many of his father's films; which he promises he had to audition for. He's easily the child that looks most like his father and has become the most successful inHollywood.
KathrynEastwood
BornKathrynAnn Reeves, the second child from Eastwood andJacelyn Reeves,Kathrynalso went on to have a few acting parts over the years. For the most part, though, she has been out of the limelight, unlike her famous brother.
FrancescaEastwood

Tommy Lee Jones Owns a 3,000-Acre Cattle Ranch in Texas
Actor Tommy Lee Jones is about as Texas as it gets. The Oscar-winning actor has made no attempts to hide his southern accent throughout his film career, and his gruff disposition has made him a Hollywood icon who can play comedy as well as drama seamlessly.
The Texan never abandoned his roots in the Lone Star State, or the ranch lifestyle he was raised on, which could be why he was inspired to move back after years working in the film industry. Jones was born in the small town of San Saba outside of San Antonio. His family relocated as his father worked in the oil fields in Midland. When the industry took his family overseas, Jones moved to Dallas to attend the prestigious all-boys prep school, St. Marks School of Texas.
St. Marks got Jones to experience new things from acting in plays to becoming an incredibly talented athlete. He was able to play football at Harvard, where he not only started getting into acting but was able to graduate with honors. Jones famously roomed with future politician Al Gore during his college days as well. After school, he moved to New York City, where he started performing on the stage. Jones is an incredibly serious guy, so it only makes sense that that's how he began his acting career.
While he certainly has a reputation for being as moody as some of his characters, there's no doubt that he'll go down in history as one of the most memorable actors of his time. His career kicked off when he booked the role of Mooney, Loretta Lynn's husband in Coal Miner’s Daughter opposite Sissy Spacek. He went on to win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Fugitive opposite Harrison Ford. Jones even won an Emmy for his role in the miniseries Lonesome Dove, his first role that got to show off his horse-riding skills from his time on the ranch. Younger fans might know him from his role fighting aliens opposite Will Smith in Men In Black.
Jones is an accomplished polo player, something he is still passionate about today. In fact, according to Texas Monthly, he funds two polo teams, which include Jones and his wife Dawn, professional players, and their fifty horses. They split their time during the year between his polo farm in Palm Beach, Florida, and his San Saba polo ranch.
The house on the Texas ranch is over 150 years old, which shows how much Jones admires the history of his 3,000-acre piece of real estate. Jones told Texas Monthly that he lives the good life out there between the polo fields and cattle they have on the property.
“In the summers, we’ll work cattle, and then at about seven o’clock at night, we’ll start playing polo. We’ll play until about nine, and then when we’re done, we put the meat on the fire and watch the dark come. It’s a good life. Everyone is happy.”

Songs Every Tanya Tucker Fan Knows By Heart
Tanya Tucker songs have captured the attention of country music fans since the veteran singer took "Delta Dawn" to the top of the country music charts at age 13. Despite a sometimes turbulent and controversial life as a young woman, Tucker avoided the usual trappings of child stardom with the ability to hold on to her audience for decades to come instead of ridin' away into no man's land.
America loves its child stars. This pint-sized country singer with the adorable "Teddy Bear Song" and the Donna Fargo cover "The Happiest Girl in the Whole USA" in her repertoire was a can't-miss attraction. She made appearances on TV shows, radio stations and signed with Columbia Records.
But Tucker was more than a novelty act as a child, as she could sing of heartbreak and lovesick blues with the power and conviction of a grown woman. Changing country music trends and tabloid gossip limited her popularity for a time. Still, that same mighty voice eventually proved to be timeless as country fans sought more traditional-sounding stars in the late '80s. She showed that timeless sounds don't go out of style. This shift in Nashville's musical climate made a Texas girl the toast of Tennessee.
Tucker's latest album While I'm Livin' has rightfully earned the country singer-songwriter praise among critics and longtime fans. The album, produced by Brandi Carlile and Shooter Jennings, is nominated for a Grammy for Best Country Album at the 2020 Grammy awards.
With decades of experience comes a back catalog of potential "greatest hits" candidates. As often happens with these lists, what's the best and where it ranks among other great songs is a matter of opinion. It will always be hard to narrow down a career like Tucker's, but these 10 cuts define a legendary and ongoing career driven by a true rebel's instantly recognizable singing voice.
10. "Little Things"
While young Tucker captured fans' hearts with a weathered voice that sounded mature beyond its years, there's something equally admirable about Tucker as a contemporary artist who's lived through enough to make nearly any song of love, loss, or longing believable.
9. "Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone)"
At risk of leaving out other deserving songs ("Highway Robbery," "Pecos Promenade"), it'd be a bigger shame to skip the signature version of an often-covered country song.
8. "Lizzie and the Rainman"
This mid-'70s song, in the mold of movies' folk and country-inspired title tracks, became Tucker's most successful pop crossover hit, despite the accessible sound of her career comeback.
7. "Blood Red and Goin' Down"
Classic '70s album What's Your Mama's Name helps define Tucker's early career. On this number-one single, she tells a believable story of family drama and murder through the eyes of an adolescent.
6. "My Arms Stay Open All Night"
Tucker's mighty voice suited whatever song tempo or production techniques suited the time. Her talent as a song interpreter shined as bright when country music went pop in the '90s as it did when she was a teenage sensation.
5. "It's a Little Too Late"
When rock and classic country-inspired songs lit up the charts, few caught as many ears as this loud, sassy, and pop-accessible hit from 1992.
4. "San Antonio Stroll"
There's nothing quite like about Texas, as sung by proud Texans. Tucker must feel right at home at the local honky-tonk, from Billy Bob's on down, based her take on such dives' nightly musical offerings.
3. "Texas (When I Die)"
Tucker's rocking TNT album included this honky-tonk tribute to her home state. It's one of many great songs that likens beautiful, bountiful Texas to the sweet by-and-by.
2. "Two Sparrows in a Hurricane"
Tucker left a mark on a new era of sentimental country hits with this tale of a couple with a shared love strong enough to overcome the odds. My heart can barely handle the way Tucker sings these lyrics.
1. "Delta Dawn"
Sometimes, nothing can quite match the impact of a star's breakthrough hit. Teenage Tucker's jaw-dropping cover of a song she learned from the great Bette Midler remains a groundbreaking moment in country music history.
Honorable mentions: "Strong Enough to Bend," "If Your Heart Ain't Busy Tonight," "Here's Some Love," "Can I See You Tonight," "Tell Me About It," "Down to My Last Teardrop," "I'll Come Back As Another Woman," "Love Me Like You Used To," "If It Don't Come Easy," "One Love At a Time," "While I'm Livin'," "Bring My Flowers Now," "Love's the Answer," and "The House That Built Me."Tucker's latest album While I'm Livin' has rightfully earned the country singer-songwriter praise among critics and longtime fans. The album, produced by Brandi Carlileand Shooter Jennings, is nominated for a Grammy for Best Country Album at the 2020 Grammy awards.

This Texas Aquarium Doubles as a Thrilling Water Ride
Aquatica San Antonio is one of the coolest waterparks around because somehow it combines two of our favorite things; water slides and an aquarium. The sea creature theme park is owned by Seaworld San Antonio and you've never seen anything like it.
This park doubles as an aquarium and lets you see marine life as you explore various rides around the park. Thank you Seaworld Parks for giving us a place to enjoy tropical fish while also riding
Stingray Encounter
The only attraction like it, it's a total once in a lifetime animal encounter. For $15 you get to ride on a tube underneath an archway full of stingrays. Where do I sign up for an annual pass? Right here, and honestly the prices are super affordable.
It wouldn't be a water park without some amazing water slides
The new Ihu's Breakaway Falls is the tallest drop in Texas so ride if you dare. Looks pretty fun though! Another thrilling ride and one of a kind experience is the Walhalla Wave. It takes you on a tube across a zero-gravity wall in case you wanted to know what it felt like to be weightless.
Tassie's Twisters is basically the water park version of a roller coaster. Grab a tube and twist around at high speed.
Don't forget about all the cool wave pools you can check out. body slides, lazy rivers, anything you could think of that's all perfect for the whole family. There's so much to do you might want to plan for consecutive days on your trip and make it a weekend!
Single day tickets are $49.99 but it's only $25 more for a 3 day, 2 park pass that also gives you access to SeaWorld. Don't forget to check the website for special deals throughout the year and make sure to check out Aquatica next time you find yourself in San Antonio.

Stay Overnight in a Floating Cabin at This Tennessee Resort
Hales Bar Marina & Resort is the perfect play for a weekend getaway. Not only will you get to enjoy the stunning sunsets over Nickajack Lake, but you get to stay in your very own floating cabin. The picturesque resort is less than half an hour from Chattanooga and two hours from Nashville. Once you see photos you'll agree it's definitely worth the visit.
This marina and resort in Guild, Tennessee has cabins that are actually floating on the sparkling waters of the lake. You can choose between one, two, and three-bedroom options, all ranging in price from $99 to $275 depending on your size of cabin and time of year you plan on visiting. If sleeping on the water really isn't for you, don't worry. There are cabins on the land that still offer lovely views of the water.
Hales Bar Marina and Resort is located where the Hales Bar Dam used to be. The dam was completed in 1913 along the Tennessee River but ceased operations in 1967. Due to the number of deaths during construction, the abandoned dam is considered the most haunted location in the entire state of Tennessee as well as one of the most well known in the country. Paranormal investigators frequently visit the area and it's even been featured on numerous tv shows including Ghost Hunters.
The good news is, campers shouldn't have to worry about seeing any ghosts since all of the cabins were constructed especially for the resort. You can hit the water from a safe distance before making your way back to your floating cabin. There is also an RV Park if you want to bring your own camper instead of renting a cabin. The nightly rate for waterfront views is $45. There is a mini-golf course on-site as well as a swimming pool in case you need a break from the lake water.

Remembering John Prine Songs Through The Years
Legendary singer-songwriter John Prine died Tuesday, April 7 from complications of COVID-19. He was 73 years old.
Prine was an American treasure and revered as one of the great modern songwriters. After being discovered by Kris Kristofferson, Prine released his self-titled album in 1971, which included "Hello in There," "Sam Stone," "Illegal Smile," "Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore" and "Angel From Montgomery," which was famously recorded by Bonnie Raitt and is considered one of Prine's many signature songs.
Prine also co-wrote David Allan Coe's "You Never Even Called Me By My Name" with his good friend Steve Goodman, a fellow member of the Chicago folk music scene.
Throughout his incredible career, Prine was an inspiration to both his peers and aspiring singer-songwriters in the Americana scene. Kristofferson, Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash named him among their favorite songwriters.
The folk singer and songwriting hero was a mentor to many in the Nashville scene, including Jason Isbell, Kacey Musgraves and Miranda Lambert. In 2019, Prine won Album of the Year at the Americana Music Honors and Awards. In 2020, he was given the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Prine's team took to social media on March 29 to announce that the Americana legend was hospitalized and in critical condition after having coronavirus symptoms.
“After a sudden onset of Covid-19 symptoms,” read the Instagram post, “John was hospitalized on Thursday (3/26). He was intubated Saturday evening, and continues to receive care, but his situation is critical.
“This is hard news for us to share,” the statement continued. “But so many of you have loved and supported John over the years, we wanted to let you know, and give you the chance to send on more of that love and support now. And know that we love you, and John loves you.”
The news came less than two weeks after John Prine's wife and business partner Fiona Prine's March 17 announcement that she'd tested positive for COVID-19. John was tested at the time, but his results came back as "indeterminate."
"There's a chance he may not have this virus, and we are working really, really hard and being really diligent about all of the protocols. We are quarantined and isolated from each other and members of the family," Fiona said at the time. "It's hard, I won't lie, but it's absolutely important."
Prine, who was a cancer survivor, and his wife, the former Fiona Whelan, ran the Nashville-based label Oh Boy Records, which released John's own music (including the Grammy-nominated 2018 album The Tree of Forgiveness) and, in the past year, music by country music outsider Kelsey Waldon and singer-songwriter Tre Burt. Prior releases include a live album by Kris Kristofferson.
Word of Prine's condition broke while Nashville reeled over the death of Grand Ole Oprymember and Grammy winner Joe Diffie, the first mainstream country music star to pass away due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The Associated Press reports that public health officials stress hand washing with soap and water for 20 seconds and staying at home when possible as ways to prevent the pandemic's spread and to protect older adults, people with pre-existing health problems and other vulnerable populations.

Dolly Parton Wants to Recreate Her 1978 'Playboy' Cover
In a recent interview with 60 Minutes Australia, 74-year-old Dolly Parton set a goal for her 75th birthday: a return to the cover of Playboy Magazine.
“I don’t plan to retire. I just turned 74 and I plan to be on the cover of Playboy Magazine again,” she said (as quoted by People). “See I did Playboy Magazine years ago and I thought it’d be such a hoot if they’ll go for it — I don’t know if they will — if I could be on the cover again when I’m 75.”
More specifically, Parton became the first country singer to become a Playboy cover model in October 1978. The cover photo shoot showed the country music icon in the iconic Playboy bunny outfit, complete with bunny ears and a bowtie.
Parton's cover shot promoted an in-depth article on her career, not that month's centerfold.
“I have been asked, back in the day, but that was so totally not me," she says on nudity, as shared on her website. "I would never do that… But that was a good article they ran in there, and it was just a fun thing to do. That was just another way I was trying to market myself, at that time, to kinda get in the mainstream…”
When asked if she'd wear the same outfit, Parton employed her signature charm, saying she likely could use it because "boobs are still the same."
“I’ve had about all the nips and tucks I can have,” she added about maintaining her iconic look. “The good part with me though, I have my own look. I look kind of cartoonish and cartoons don’t really age that much.”
Parton added, “Even when I’m 90, I’ll still probably look about the same way. Just thicker make-up and bigger hair.”
Parton's pondering a future issue of Playboy Magazine's cover while promoting a new A&E special titled Biography: Dolly. The April 12 broadcast will follow Parton from a childhood of poverty in East Tennessee to her earliest successes in Nashville, including her crowning moment as a songwriter, "Jolene."

Stroll Through the Real Mayberry from 'The Andy Griffith Show'
If there is one lasting legacy of The Andy Griffith Show it's that the little fictional town of Mayberry, where the iconic TV show is set, is synonymous with the ideal American way of life. With friendly sitcom characters like Sheriff Taylor, Aunt Bee, Opie, and Barney Fife roaming the sitcom's quaint small town it's hard not to disagree. Who wouldn't want to live there, wandering down main street, past Floyd's Barber Shop, and waving to real-life Wally, Otis, Gomer, or Goober?
Great news! You can. There is a real-world version of Mayberry. It's Andy Griffith's hometown of Mount Airy, North Carolina, upon which Mayberry was based.
Not only is the town real, but it's loaded with fun stuff to do. Nestled at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the North Carolina-Virginia border, Mount Airy is the exact type of charming small town people love to spend the weekend in at a Bed and Breakfast, taking in the local fare. But not only that, being the inspiration for Mayberry isn't just a piece of trivia for the home of Matlock, it's a part of their identity they love to celebrate.
With all that in mind, here are some of the best things to do should you ever decided to head on down to Mayberry er, we mean Mount Airy.
The Andy Griffith Museum
Obviously you have to start with the man who put the town on the map. The Andy Griffith Museum was founded by Emmett Forrest, who passed away in 2013. In the museum you can find all sorts of artifacts related to Griffith and his famous characters, like Sheriff Andy Taylor and Matlock. Admission is only $8 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. The museum operates regular business hours Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
Mayberry Days
Every year the Surry Arts Council and City of Mount Airy put on this beloved local festival that includes concerts and shows at the Andy Griffith Playhouse inside the Historic Earle Theater as well as the Blackmon Amphitheater, tons of local food like pork chop sandwiches, a golf tournament, checkers, and other entertainment.
The festival takes place in September.
Squad Car Tours
They say no visit to Mount Airy is complete without taking a tour of the town in a real deal, old school police squad car. Located at Wally’s Service Station at 625 South Main Street, hop into one of these historic police cars and see all the Mayberry sights, including where "Sheriff Andy" grew up.
The Mayberry Motor Inn
Need a place to stay? Ask for the Aunt Bee room at the Mayberry Motor Inn. It's decorated with items that used to be owned by the late actress Frances Bavier, who played Aunt Bee on The Andy Griffith Show.
Snappy Lunch
This is the place to eat in Mount Airy, and you cannot leave the town without a fried pork chop sandwich. Once a favorite spot of Andy Griffith, this charming diner located on (of course) Main Street is pure, classic Americana.
Pilot Mountain State Park
It's not all Mayberry and Andy Griffith in Mount Airy. The town is located in absolutely gorgeous Appalachian country. The solitary peak of Pilot Mountain sits 2,000 feet above sea level and is one of the great geographic sights in North Carolina.

Visit the World's First Zipline Roller Coaster
If the Gatlinburg Sky Bridge wasn't enough for all you daredevils out there, allow us to introduce you to another adrenaline-inducing thrill ride from the heart of the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. The Flying Ox, located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, is the world's first cable-to-rail zipline rollercoaster.
According to a press release, the Flying Ox takes fearless riders 80 feet in the air for a 1,000-foot-long ride. "Instead of traveling in a straight line, riders wind, drop, and soar through the air at approximately 15 miles per hour," the press release states.
For the one-of-a-kind zipline rollercoaster, Flying Ox partnered with CLIMB Works, a leader in the zipline industry.
“With the addition of the Flying Ox, Paula Deen’s Lumberjack Feud Show & Adventure Park is the only location in the world where thrill seekers can ride a cable-to-rail zipline roller coaster,” Vice President of Marketing Josh Mayberry said in a press release. “Lumberjack Square strives to provide a unique experience where guests can watch a lumberjack show then try their hand at some of the competitive events they see performed by the professional lumberjacks.”
Opened by Paula Deen’s Lumberjack Feud Show & Adventure Park, the Flying Ox was inspired by the history of the Smoky Mountain logging industry. The theme park also includes a log roll and boom run, a lumberjack-themed ropes course, speed climb towers and a simulated free-fall from an 80-foot-tall jump platform. The park will open a springboard chop and cross-cut saw attractions in the coming months.

Sleep Under the Stars in a Covered Wagon at Utah's Capitol Reef Resort
If you're looking for a unique camping experience, look no further than Capitol Reef Resort in Torrey, Utah. Located in the Capitol Reef National Park, this is absolutely the "glamping" adventure you've been looking for.
The accomodations are no joke. The resort offers various options depending on what you're looking for. Stay in one of their luxurious king cabins that comes with amazing views of the surrounding cliffs and comfortable beds. Different cabin sizes are available depending on if you want a king of queen bed or need a guest room. Also? Free toiletries.
If you want a more authentic experience, consider staying in your own private teepee. You get your own flat screen tv, the same western furnishings that come in the cabins, and easy access to a private bathroom just "steps away" according to the website. And of course the same mountain views of the red cliffs surrounding the resort.
The most authentic experience though is staying in one of the Conestoga Wagons. Available June-September only due to weather, these accomodations really let you sleep under the stars like the pioneers. But you get air conditioning and either a king bed or bunk beds depending on the wagon. You get a private bathroom separate from the covered wagon as well.
The beautiful views are so incredible, it's very possible you won't want to leave your room. But if you do, there's a hot tub onsite, a heated outdoor pool open seasonally, and free wifi to keep you occupied after check-in. The Pioneer Kitchen is the on site restaurant that offers a delicious breakfast buffet and comfort food that really fits your surroundings. Your room also comes with your own coffee maker in case you sleep in past the buffet breakfast though.
Scenic horseback rides will take you through the adjacent Fishlake National Forest. You'll get to see the Red Bluff, the Windgate Tunnel and even the Petrified Forest for some of the most incredible views of the red rock cliffs. The best part? No experience necessary! Tours start at $90/person for a 2-hour ride and go up as you add more time.
Llama excursions are offered March-October. You'll really get a once in a life time experience as you take in the beautiful sites with your own llama. You can go on a day hike to the Water Pocket Fold of Capitol Reef National Park starting at $85/person. Or you can take it up a notch and go on an overnight trek starting at $810/person. You'll get to climb peaks in the national park, see stunning waterfalls, and learn all about the history of the area on this unique trip.
Need more adventure? The resort also offers safari jeep tours. Your guides will teach you all about the geology and history of the National Park as you see it up close. Tours start at $150/person for a 4 hour tour up to the temple of the Sun and Moon viewing area. There are two additional options for $200/person for a 5-7 hour trip for those looking for a bit more time to see the sights.
Whether you're looking to unwind in the heated pool while taking in the views, sleep in late in your own bedroom cabin, or experience a unique excursion, Capitol Reef Resort has something for everyone. Don't forget to stop by the gift shop to get something to remember your stay!

Texas' Oldest Standing Mansion is a Must-See Gem of the Hill Country
Northwest of Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country lies the tiny Mason County. Home to less than 5,000 people, you'd never guess that this little Texas gem is home to a seriously cool historic landmark. The Seaquist House is the oldest standing mansion in the entire state and you can go visit it today.
Rev. Thomas A. Broad first began construction on the three-story Victorian house on Comanche Creek all the way back in 1887. It was first sold to a New York banker, Edward M. Reynolds in 1891. Reynolds hired Richard Grosse, a German architect, to finish the house and make it even bigger. When he completed the home, it was a staggering 22-room masterpiece. Fun fact, Grosse also designed the county jail.
Finally, Swedish immigrant Oscar Seaquist purchased the house in 1919. Though Oscar died in 1933, the Seaquist family lived in the house until his wife Ada passed away in 1972. Ada continued to maintain the property until her death though, refusing to let things get run down. She rented out rooms and filled the house with life.
Garner and Clara Seaquist, Oscar and Ada's son and daughter in law, first started refurbishing the house following Ada's death. Despite already being busy operating the local Mi Pueblo Restaurantè, they opened the mansion in 1973 for public tours and the following year received a historical marker on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Seaquist House Foundation purchased the property in 2015 and continues to maintain and update the house. The sandstone structure continues to stun with its wrap-around porches and incredible interior which includes a chapel and a ballroom (when will they rent this out for weddings?). Who knew this little piece of history was hiding in the Hill Country? The Seaquist House Foundation is working towards getting the mansion ready for local activities and events to be able to further boost their local tourism.
You can learn more and donate to improving this historic mansion at seaquist.org.

A Life of Stardom Made Reba McEntire a Fortune
Reba McEntire has been an American country music legend for decades. She's practically royalty in the United States. The singer-songwriter has released numerous smash hit studio albums with number one hit after number one hit on them. The country artist is a Nashville icon, but have you ever wondered what the Oklahoma native's net worth is? How much of that Tremors money does she got? Turns out Reba McEntire's net worth is... a whole lot. The country singer has won Grammys, had her own sitcom, been at the top of the Billboard charts with her multiplatinum records, and is quite arguably the queen of country music. So yeah, she's made some money.
Reba Nell McEntire has an estimated net worth of $95 million according to Celebrity Net Worth. Dang! Her hair color might be red but that bank account is straight up green.
Pretty good for a girl from McAlester, Oklahoma. Born to Jacqueline and Clark Vincent McEntire in in 1955, this future habitual hit record producer graduated from Kiowa High School before attending college. Though she originally intended to be a school teacher she was singing the entire time. Beginning with the Singing McEntires, a band she had with her siblings. In 1974, Reba accidentally got her big break when she was hired to perform the national anthem at the National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City. It was there that country artist Red Steagall discovered the red head's immense vocal talent and decided to get her music career going. Soon she was on with Mercury Records and recording country music.
The rest, as they say, is history. Reba went on to be one of the biggest music industry stars of all time with hits like For My Broken Heart, How Blue, Somebody Should Leave, Fancy, Annie Get Your Gun, and The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia. But Reba was such a beloved personality that her charisma soon landed her on screens big and small. She was in films like The Little Rascals and the glorious sci-fi film Tremors, and played Annie Oakley in the TV show Buffalo Girls.
Reba has been married a few times, including to her most recent ex-husband, Narvel Blackstock, her former manager and steel guitar player. These days Reba is living it up with her millions, still making hit music and reigning as our benevolent Queen of Country Music. She also had a brief turn in KFC commercials playing Colonel Sanders in 2018. That was weird, but also pretty funny. That's just how lovable she is.

Visit the Real Whistle Stop Cafe From ‘Fried Green Tomatoes’
Fried Green Tomatoes is a beloved southern film from 1991 inspired by the novel Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafeby Fannie Flagg. The film stars Kathy Bates, Jessica Tandy, Mary Stuart Masterson (Idgie Threadgoode), Chris O'Donnell, and Mary-Louise Parker (Ruth Jamison) and follows two sets of female friendships and the hardships they endure together. Tandy landed an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress and the script was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. It's a classic film everyone should watch.
Producer Lisa Lindstrom introduced the novel to the film's director, Jon Avnet back in 1987. It was not an easy road for Hollywood to get the film on the big screen. Avnet received a very small budget to develop the script and had his first two screenwriters leave the project including Fannie Flagg and Carol Sobieski, who wrote Annie. He ended up finishing the script himself since he had no budget left to complete the project. After a few years of developing the script, Flagg gave her seal of approval and they cast the film.
Tandy was first choice to play Ninny Threadgoode as was Parker for the role of Ruth Jamison. The rest of the cast fell into place perfectly. Though Flagg had initally based Whistle Stop in her novel on Irondale, Alabama, production designer Barbara Ling found Juliette, Georgia to be the ideal filming location. The town, around an hour outside of Atlanta, seemed nearly deserted but there was an old antique and hardware store that made the perfect Whistle Stop Café.
Following the release of the film, the town opened up a real Whistle Stop Café set up just like the movie set. Local, Robert Williams, had inherited the building and partnered with his friend Jerie Lynn Williams to open up Original Whistle Stop Cafe.
The building was first built in 1927 by Edward L. Williams, Sr. who ran the space as a general merchandise store for 40 years. After that it was rented out until Hollywood came to town.
If you're ever near Juliette, Ga., be sure to visit the Whistle Stop for some southern eats and sweet tea. The menu includes fried chicken, chicken fried steak, onion rings, pulled pork, pecan cobbler and of course -- fried green tomatoes.

The greatestcountry musiclove song wasn't written about a romanticlove story.Dolly Partonwrote"I Will Always Love You"for her dear friend Porter Wagoner upon her exit fromThe Porter Wagoner Show. From then on, the song took on a life of its own. It was a No. 1 hit for Parton in 1974, then again in 1982 when she re-recorded it for theBest Little Whorehouse In Texas. (She's the first singer to score a No. 1 hit twice for the same song.)
Ten years later, Whitney Houston had the best-selling single by a woman in music history with her cover of the song. But even without the massive chart success, "I Will Always Love You," a song about pure, selfless love, would still be thebestcountry love songever written.
"He Stopped Loving Her Today,"George Jones
Love doesn't always work out like we want it to. Some ofcountry music's greatest songs are born out of the notion that even the truest loves don't always last."He Stopped Loving Her Today,"about a man who carries a torch for his one true love until his dying day, is perhaps country's greatest example of heartbreaking, enduring love.
"I Cross My Heart,"George Strait

"Forever and Ever, Amen,"Randy Travis
Randy Travis' "Forever and Ever, Amen" has stood the test of time as one ofcountry music's most endearing love songs. As plain spoken and true as only acountry songcan be, "Forever and Ever, Amen" can be considered one of the greatestcountry love songsever written.

"Still the One"Shania Twain
Shania Twain's scorching love song "You're Still the One" became Twain's first top ten hit on theBillboardHot 100. The crossover hit, written by Twain and her then husband Mutt Lange, also won two Grammy Awards in 1999.

ZZ Top are Texas Legends Who've Stayed Together for 50 Years
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members and Houston, Texas natives ZZ Top might not immediately come to mind when you think of country music, even if its members, guitarist Billy Gibbons, drummer Frank Beard, and vocalist/bassist Dusty Hill look as country as it comes with those beards, but the legendary classic rock band -- or that little ol' band from Texas, as they call themselves -- is a lot more country than you think. (They even performed their first concert together at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Beaumont, Texas.)
When the band was first formed, it was Gibbons, Dan Mitchell, and Lanier Greig. Gibbons was really drawn to the band names B.B. King and Z.Z. Hill and almost landed on the combined name of Z.Z. King. But since the king is technically "on top", ZZ Top was born. The band's first single, "Salt Lick" helped the group secure a deal with London Records, the US affiliate of the British label, Decca Records. Bassist Billy Ethridg replaced Greig and Frank Beard replaced Mitchell. Ethridge quit when he didn't want to sign with London records and Dusty Hill took his spot. It was this groups first show together at the Knights of Columbus Hall in 1970.
ZZ Top's first album with the main group, Tres Hombres, was an instant success and really turned the band into stars. Pretty much overnight. One of its most popular songs, "La Grange", was written about the Chicken Ranch in LaGrange, Texas -- the famous brothel portrayed in the country musical classic "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas".
Fandango! followed in 1975, another top 10 album with it's well-performing single, "Tush." The band went on a worldwide tour to promote their 1976 album, Tejas, which didn't perform as well peaking at 17 on the charts. After taking a two year break, ZZ Top signed with Warner Bros Records and released the platinum album, Degüello which produced popular singles "I Thank You" and "Cheap Sunglasses".
From there, ZZ Top took their twangy, Texas-inspired rock and shot to the top of the popular music world. After the release of their 1983 album Eliminator, which featured some of the greatest hits in rock history, they won their first MTV Video Music Awards for "Legs." With billboard chart-toppers like "Sharp Dressed Man", "Gimme All Your Lovin", and "Got Me Under Pressure", ZZ Top was one of the top acts on MTV, with several of their videos playing in regular rotation on the then insanely popular network. The album went multi-platinum.
Their country boogie and American blues sound might have been ignored by the mainstream at the time but like their blues-rock predecessors Lynard Skynard, it was undeniable that ZZ Top had some serious country influence. From their Worldwide Texas Tour to country and blues-rock songs like "Jesus Left Chicago", ZZ Top was able to further imbue country music into the DNA of the rock world. Sure, they got a little synthesizer friendly for a while too, but it was the '80s! Everyone was doing it.
After figuring out the perfect mix of personalities, the band has consistently been Gibbons, Beard, and Hill for decades. Very impressive. Gibbons told the National Podcast of Texas that the secret to their longevity lies in everyone essentially understanding personal space.
“Someone asked recently, ‘How did you three guys manage to stay together for longer than most marriages?’ Two words come to mind: separate buses. It’s made it all go all right. It’s a good team.”
Gibbons has also told Kentucky.com that the three men just love playing together.
"Of course, standing as a trio, an odd number helps as there can't be any ties when a group decision is made. So, if one of us isn't in accord with the other two, odd man out just goes with the flow. And, since it's so in fashion to 'break up' and then 'get back together,' one can think of ZZ Top as being on an infinite tour that just skipped the part where you split. However, we're really good at getting back together."
These days the country rock legends are still touring, and playing to their country roots. Their tour page says the band will be appearing at the Choctaw Casino in Oklahoma and the country music festival Stagecoach.
Sure, ZZ Top may be rock legends on par with The Rolling Stones, but they've got Texas in their blood, and country music in their souls.

This Snickers Bar Just Won the Guiness World Record
They say that everything is bigger in Texas and now that's officially true for Snickers bars. On Thursday, Jan. 16, Snickers partnered with Guinness World Records to unveil the world's largest chocolate nut bar, weighing over two metric tons and measuring 12 feet long and 24 inches high by 26 inches wide, at the Mars Wrigley plant in Waco, Texas. Chocolate lovers, rejoice! The record-breaking chocolate nut bar includes the same ingredients found in every Snickers bar, including milk chocolate, nougat, caramel and peanuts.
The candy bar is equivalent to more than 43,000 single-size Snickers candy bars. According to a press release, once the Snickers is consumed, the bar will officially be recognized and recorded by Guinness World Records as the largest chocolate nut bar. The unveiling is a literal taste of what's to come when Snickers shares its new Super Bowl commercial, airing Feb. 2, 2020, on FOX.
Waco's Mars Wrigley plant opened in 1976, making Snickers and Starbursts. According to KWTX News, the plant produces over 65 percent of all the Snickers in North America.
“We do make all our products from start to finish, so we bring in all our own raw products like coco, like the great flavorings we have in our products. We blend all those products up,” Plant Director Dan Braswell told KWTX in 2018.
Waco, now the birthplace of the world's largest chocolate bar, is also home to the Dr Pepper Museum and Free Enterprise Institute and Chip and Joanna Gaines'Magnolia Market at the Silos.

Craig a Brings Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton to Tears with 'The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost'
Country music star Craig Morgan's promotion of current single "The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost" includes a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, during which Morgan's tribute to his late son brought Clarkson, Hollywood star Eva Mendes and the song's most visible cheerleader, fellow country star Blake Shelton, to tears.
The moving song and its brand-new music video address the personal faith that helps Morgan cope with the 2016 drowning death of his 19-year-old son Jerry Greer.
Morgan's Oct. 17 appearance on TheKelly Clarkson Showalso included a sit-down interview during which Morgan explained how Ricky Skaggs encouraged him to turn what was supposed to be a one-off performance at the Grand Ole Opry into the studio recording that's now a viral hit.
“I walked off the stage, thinking I might never perform it again,” Morgan told People in June. “But standing there was Ricky Skaggs, and he told me that I simply had to perform it again. I had to get through this and find a way to share this song with as many people as I could.”
Morgan's first new music since Greer's passing tugged at the heartstrings of Shelton, a family friend with his own story of loss from the 1990 death of his brother Richie. To make sure Morgan's cathartic songwriting in honor of his late son reached as large an audience as possible, Shelton launched a social media campaign to ease the new song up the charts.

If you love deep sea fishing, book one of the local fishing charters in town to catch your own dinner. Not in the mood to fish? Book a trip with EcoVenture Florida where Captain Matt Hetrick and First Mate Lauren will guide you through a true island hopping adventure. We coasted around the famous Sanibel Lighthouse and anchored at our own private little beach for shelling on the gorgeous Costa Cayo. The seashells are shades of reds and pinks, and some are as big as your face.
If you thought you needed to leave America to find white sand beaches and clear crystal water year-round, it's all right here in the United States' coastline on the Gulf of Mexico. We saw dolphins, manatees, fevers of rays, and one incredible sea turtle in our time with Captain Matt, but he asked me to say that seeing all those in one day is incredibly lucky. Ol' Captain Matt is a modest guy.
Water sports, parasailing, and paddle boarding
If you're not in the mood for a boat ride, head out to the Pink Shell's beach resort zone where you can start your morning ocean kayaking or paddle boarding in the gentle surf. The serene view from the room each morning is all the convincing you need to feel the mild saltwater on your toes. Take a short waverunner course and grab the jet ski views of the boardwalk from the ocean. Bike around Lovers Key State Park, the one place every guest at the resort raved about. We didn't get to make it here, but learned it's a popular spot for lovers of all ages to take sweet photos.
Downtown Fort Myers
The Edison & Ford Winter Estates are a must-see for any kind of traveler, particularly those botanical garden lovers! These vacation homes of first Thomas Edison's family, followed by Henry Ford's family later, are preserved with the original knickknacks and science center, including the working laboratory. Mina Edison is responsible for the exotic and blossoming flora on the estates and she is the true patron saint of Fort Myers. The history of the city, once a popular cattlemen stop, begins with the Edisons arriving and rebuilding the dock. The Royal Palms lining the Edison's estate roads are just one of the legacies left behind.
Fort Myers & Sanibel Island
If you're looking to escape somewhere gorgeously serene with more activities than you could possibly fit into one week, Fort Myers Beach is the spot for you. This barrier island gem is budget-friendly, pet-friendly, and impossibly clean, a nod to the high eco-standards Lee County holds itself to. The next time you want to escape somewhere south, just remember that you need to go as far as Key West to find white sand perfection. Fort Myers Beach is Florida's Florida, the kind you're looking for.
