Man convicted of manslaughter skipped sentencing, wanted by US Marshals
A man convicted of manslaughter in a 2021 shooting that left a woman dead did not show up for his sentencing hearing on Monday and is currently being sought by U.S. Marshals, according to the Kenton County Commonwealth's Attorney's office. Shane Walters, a Taylor Mill native, pleaded guilty on Feb. 2 to one count of second-degree manslaughter; he was arrested and charged two years prior, in February 2021. Will voters dissolve Village of Moscow in wake of lost revenue from Zimmer?
The Village of Moscow survived a deadly tornado and catastrophic flooding over the past 25 years, but what ultimately kills this historic community may come from the ballot box on Tuesday. Moscow is facing an uncertain future after the closure of the William H. Zimmer coal plant last year, which provided 90 percent of its revenue, and a dwindling population of just 155 registered voters. Residents of the Ohio River community will vote on whether to dissolve and meld into Washington Township. Moscow may become the third village in Clermont County to disband since 2019, following the fates of Newtonsville and Amelia. Or it could follow the lead of Owensville residents, who overwhelmingly rejected the dissolution of their village in 2021.
