His dissertation was on the mechanism of inflammation in myocardial ischemia.He and his wife, Dr. Kimberly Milhoan, started "For Hearts and Souls," a non-profit international organization to diagnose and treat children with heart defects across the globe. Dr. Milhoan, as the Senior Pastor of Calvary Chapel South Maui, kept their doors open during the Covid lockdowns in early 2020 by providing food pantry services to the community 7 days a week. Kirk and Kim continue their medical outreach, including a Free Medical Clinic in Hawaii as well as numerous international pediatric cardiac missions.
