Impeachment Trial of the Attorney General Ken Paxton (Sep. 12, AM)
Texas AG Ken Paxton has faced allegations of wrongdoing and legal troubles for years. He was indicted on securities fraud counts in 2015, and his own staff reported him to the FBI for suspected corruption in 2020 over his dealings with Nate Paul, a donor and real estate investor. After whistleblowers sued and Paxton struck a $3.3 million settlement, House members began investigating the whistleblowers' claims in secret before impeaching Paxton on May 27 on 20 articles of impeachment. The Senate however is only considering 16 of the 20. The House voted 121-23 to approve the articles of impeachment, with 60 Republicans and 61 Democrats voting in favor. All votes against were by Republicans
According to the articles, Paxton used his power and office to help Paul work through legal difficulties. They also accuse him of accepting bribes in the form of renovations to his home and a job for a woman with whom he was having an extramarital affair. The articles say that when confronted allegations of wrongdoing, Paxton retaliated against whistleblowers in his office and spent government money trying to cover up his wrongdoing with a sham investigation into their claims.

How a Man of the Cloth Pulled Off a Million Dollar Scam
Welcome to another episode on Uncivil Law, where we bring you Legal Education with an Edge. In today's episode, we delve into an unimaginable story that melds faith, trust, and the law into a sordid tale that sounds like it came straight out of a Hollywood script—but it didn't.
We're talking about a pastor, a supposed shepherd of his flock, who for over a decade led a theft ring that stole a staggering $1.4 million from Home Depot. You heard that right—a man of the cloth robbing a corporation, not just once, but up to six times a day. A scheme so intricate it took years for authorities to catch on. How did he do it? And more importantly, how did he think the law wouldn't catch up to him?
In this episode, we'll discuss the multiple charges he's facing, which include but are not limited to fraud, conspiracy, and grand larceny. We will also look at how the law interprets such deceit coming from a religious leader and what kind of legal repercussions are in store for him. And for those of you scratching your heads about how this could go on for so long, we'll be breaking down the systemic loopholes he exploited in the store's security protocols.
We'll also explore the ripple effects of this case, not just legally but socially and religiously. Can the congregation take legal action for the betrayal of trust? How does this case influence future legal perspectives on faith leaders engaging in criminal activity? So grab your gavel, or in this case, your Bible, as we adjudicate where heaven meets the hard reality of the courtroom.
Remember, the law isn't always black and white, but it sure does make for some riveting storytelling. If you like what you see, don't forget to hit that subscribe button and ring the bell so you don't miss any of our future legal adventures. And if you think justice has a sense of humor, you're in the right place.

Say Goodbye to Police Body Cameras as Sole Evidence in California
Welcome to another episode of Uncivil Law, where we provide Legal Education with an Edge. Today, we're diving deep into a hot-button issue that's causing shockwaves across the state of California and could soon affect the rest of the nation. The California Supreme Court has just ruled that police body camera footage cannot replace live testimony under oath. To say this is a game-changer would be an understatement.
You might be thinking, "Great, another technicality for criminals to exploit," but slow down, turbo. This is more nuanced than it appears at first glance. We'll dissect the court's opinion, explore the arguments from both sides, and discuss what this means for law enforcement, lawyers, and, let's not forget, you, the average citizen who may one day find yourself in front of a judge.
Can body camera footage really capture the essence of a situation the way live human testimony can? Or is it an infallible eye that sees all and tells all, making human recollection obsolete? These are questions we need to wrestle with, as they could define the future of criminal justice, not just in California, but throughout the United States.
If you've ever had an encounter with a police officer or if you just care about your rights and responsibilities under the law, this episode is not to be missed. And if you've been enjoying our series on police accountability, or lack thereof, you're going to find this episode especially riveting.
So hit that subscribe button, ring the notification bell, and grab a notepad because this is one lesson in legal education you can't afford to skip. And as always, if you have questions or counter-arguments, the comment section is where intellectual gladiators are born.

How the Supreme Court Ruling Turned the Tables
Welcome back to Uncivil Law, where we offer Legal Education with an Edge. If you thought the legal sphere was dull, think again. Today, we're diving deep into one of the most controversial, jaw-dropping decisions that has everyone from law students to politicians up in arms. Yep, you guessed it. We're talking about the Supreme Court's recent decision in Biden v. Nebraska. Hold onto your robes, because this one's a doozy.
So, the Biden administration had this shiny plan to forgive student loans—a plan that many saw as a one-way ticket to financial freedom. But then the Supreme Court stepped in, and the rest, as they say, is legal history. But why did the Court shoot it down? Was it a matter of constitutionality, states' rights, or something else altogether? We'll pull back the curtain and take you through the nuances of the decision, step-by-step, and you might just find out that the law has more twists than a John Grisham novel.
Whether you agree with the verdict or not, understanding the legal framework is crucial. We'll explore the majority opinion, the dissents, and of course, add our own Uncivil Law flair to it all.
