I built this laser myself, it is a projector 445nm laser diode at 2A. My total cost was somewhere between $50 and $100 because I used a lot of scrap parts and had stuff laying around.
I wore goggles when making this video, and if you ever get a hold of of one of these new 445nm lasers (including the Arctic), you MUST wear goggles or you WILL pay the consequences.

DIY: How to Build a Burning Laser Without any Soldering!
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. How to build a burning laser without any soldering, and best of all, in an Altoids tin! This is probably the easiest burning laser one can make, and it doesn't cost much either.
Parts list: 200mW rated laser module: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.26891~r.93098389
Switch and Battery Pack: RadioShack, various electronics stores
Altoids Tin: Be creative
Some rules regarding these lasers: You cannot EVER use this laser indoors without goggles. Looking at the dot up close WILL give you PERMANENT retinal burns. You cannot show this laser to friends if they do not have goggles, no exceptions. Do not point this laser near any other people out side and never annoy people with lasers. If you cannot handle these rules you probably aren't smart enough to build a laser like this anyway. I'm not trying to be a dick here, laser safety is serious stuff.
Legality: This laser is completely legal to build in the USA as long as you don't sell it or use it illegally.
Fog was used to bring out the laser beams.

The Burning Blue Laser Death Ray!
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. Here's how I built my extremely powerful blue laser as seen in my popular video "Blue Laser Burning Stuff!". I got a lot of questions about that video so I decided to make a video overview explaining the parts I used and how they are put together, followed by a bunch of clips of it burning stuff.
Power is probably a little over a watt, AKA 1000mW.
I got most of these parts at http://www.modwerx.com . You have to find a broken computer somewhere for the power supply if you go for this build though.
ALWAYS wear goggles when working with lasers over 5mW! Permanent eye damage is very easy to get with strong lasers, but is also easy to avoid if you take the right precautions.

DIY: Hack a Dead Computer into a Burning Laser!

This video shows you how to hack a broken computer into a burning laser for just a few bucks! With this simple tutorial, you can use that old computer that is collecting dust for something fun. This setup will give you around 250mW. Wear goggles when using this laser!
Parts links:
Aixiz module: http://modwerx.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=12&products_id=11&zenid=3hkstkjk75jrc1t5d0svk2t5u7

GOGGLES: http://www.o-like.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=26
Some extra tips:
*Make sure you legally dispose of the computer when you are done!
*Drilling the heatsink can be a pain. A drill press would best best, but I just used a hand drill. I started with small bits and changed bits gradually until I got to 1/2". This is the best way to go about drilling the heatsink.
*If you have an open can laser diode, take care not to let dust get inside of the diode!
*If you don't want to build a driver, just make the module found in this video and hook that up to the power supply. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VrNDe9mpOs

Parts list:
Flashlight (There are a lot of options, I chose to "drill out the pill". You can add a bunch of extra options, like the "hot option". With the hot option You won't have to buy a flexdrive because there is already one placed in the flashlight set to the current you want. This saves a lot time. http://laserpointerforums.com/f39/fs...red-43857.html

GOGGLES!: http://www.focalprice.com/HH054R/AntiGreen_Laser_Glasses.html
I do not recommend this build to someone without much experience in lasers or electronics. Try out one of my more simpler builds instead. If you try this build with out ever building a laser before there is a 99.9% chance you will fail, seriously. This is a complicated build and there are a lot of things you can do to mess up.
I DO NOT SELL THESE.
I'm sure a lot of you are thinking, "Why on Earth would you show the general public how to make a class IV laser?" I wasn't planning on showing how to build one of these, but now that any random idiot can go and buy a 1W laser from multiple companies, I might as well take the opportunity to promote safety. No person will complete this build without some reading first, and then they will know how dangerous this laser is.
For info on these lasers check out www.laserpointerforums.com

DIY: How to Build a Burning Red Laser
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. How to make a very powerful burning red laser for under $30. This video covers in detail on building a high powered laser module, but then it is up to your creativity to pick a housing for this module, as in a flashlight or something.
Parts:
LPC-815 diode in Aixiz module: http://hightechdealz.com/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=36
rkcstr driver: http://rkcstr.nfshost.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=201
Safety:
If you plan on burning things or using this laser indoors, goggles are absolutely necessary. One hit in the eye will blind you, and even staring at the blindingly bright dot will hurt your eyes permanently. Please be safe and buy some! Link: http://www.o-like.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=26
Notes: This build will power your laser at about 440mA, this will push it a little but should still give you a good lifetime. You will need more heatsinking if you plan on running this laser for more than 30 seconds at a time, heat kills laser diodes!
When soldering to the laser diode, make very quick touches with the iron, if you don't make the joint the first time, let it cool for a while before attempting again. Laser diodes are sensitive to heat and static, and can break for many reasons. Don't touch the bare pins of the laser diode before it is attached to a driver.

Green Lasers Vs. Red Lasers: Which are Better?
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. I get this question a lot, "Are green or red lasers better?" This video covers the main difference between hobby level green and red lasers.
Here are a couple extra notes:
This video was shot in fog.
Green lasers are a very complex system so you are more likely to find problems with these. Red lasers are simple so problems are less common.
Those cheap "200mW" rated green laser pointers you see on Amazon or cheap Chinese sites for under $50 are never even close to 200mW of actual output.
GOGGLES ARE REQUIRED WHEN USING LASERS OVER 5mW! If you cannot afford goggles, do NOT mess with strong lasers.
Watch for an epic laser demo coming up soon! I'll give you a hint: class IV blue lasers!

Green Lasers: What Can Certain mW Do?
Like and subscribe. This is an archive channel, i'm not the owner of the content, check the link in the end. This video compares some of the most common power outputs of green lasers you can buy these days. I compare the difference in visibility and burning between 5mW, 15mW, 35mW, 50mW, 100mW, and 150mW.
Important info after watching this video:
-I used fog to bring out the beams.
-This video is only about green lasers because they are nearly always fixed focus and have a small beam diameter.
-I mention powers where tricks are EASY to do. You may be able to pull off burning tricks with less power than what I state, but these are bench mark powers where you can reliably do these burning tricks.
-Additional focusing with extra lenses can lower the threshold of what you need to burn. Watch my focus video for a better explanation of this.
-I go by actual power of these lasers in this video, not advertised. Nearly all cheap laser sites sell lasers marked from 100mW to 300mW when in reality the actual power is much lower.
