Super Mario World is a Halloween Must Play Game? ABSOLUTELY!
I will admit that Halloween is not one of my favorite times of the year. As such, I'm kind of particular in the Halloween-themed games that I play each October. As such, I wanted to share some of my favorite games to play around Halloween with you. I don't dig a ton of blood, guts, and gore, but one game I get gleeful delight from every time I play, and a game I consider one of the Must-play games to play for Halloween is Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo (or Super Mario Bros 4 for the Super Famicom).
I know what many are thinking. How in the world is Super Mario World a Halloween game? Well there are a few ways in which Super Mario World actually fits the Halloween theming perfectly. First of all, we have ghost houses. I mean are there characters that go with Halloween much more than Ghosts? Boo isn't just any Ghost either, he actually is rather shy and turns away when you look at him. There are also Boo Buddies, Big Boo, Boo Buddy Block, Boo Buddy Snake, Boo Crew, Fishin' Boo, and Eerie. These are all amazing ghost characters that are sprinkled all around the game.
There's also the ghost house itself, a sort of haunted house which are also placed all around the world. The Ghost Houses may look innocent enough, but it is incredibly haunted. So much so that Mario's trusty companion, Yoshi, won't even go inside!
Finally, there's the Pumpkin Jumping Piranha Plant and the Pumpkin Jumping Fire Piranha Plant. These are sprite swaps that you unlock once you beat the game. It is a fun and cute addition to the game, along with the Mario-headed Koopa Troopas you also unlock when you beat the game.
Super Mario World isn't just a great game to play around Halloween, it's simply one of the greatest games ever created in my opinion. As such I will always look for any reason to sing its praises.

Giving Mario Wonder For Christmas? 3 Mario Games to Play While Waiting
One of the hardest struggles as a parent who plays video games is having to wait to play a game you know you're either giving or receiving as a gift. At our house, we know that we're going to give our youngest a copy, along with her first Switch. That being said I can't buy a copy or play it now because, well, reasons. If you are giving or receiving a copy of Mario Wonder for Christmas what 3 Mario games should you play while waiting 2 months. Let's take a look.
Number 3:
Super Mario Bros
The original Super Mario Bros is an absolute classic and many of the different ways we play now can be traced back to the original. From the gameplay basics, powering up, avoiding enemies, and more, the original Super Mario Bros provides a great foundation to start with.
Number 2:
Super Mario World
Not only my favorite Mario game but quite possibly my favorite game of all time, Super Mario World (in Japan it was also called Super Mario Bros 4) has some of the best of the entire series. We get new power-ups, new suits, and a new friend in Yoshi to help us through the Mushroom Kingdom, there is nothing about this game I don't love. And you should too!!
Number 1:
Super Mario 3D World
My youngest LOVES this game, from the Cat Suit, the music, the adventure, but I think mostly because I can carry her character around and make up for some of her lack of skill as a game player. That's right, I have literally carried Princess Peach around as Mario in Super Mario 3D World to help my youngest feel like she's "Playing". I quite enjoy 3D World myself, I actually own the original on the Wii U, and I think this will be our most-played mainline Mario game we play until Christmas when I, erm, I mean she, gets it under the same Christmas Tree I got my NES under all those many years ago when I was a kid.
What about you? Are you a gamer parent who also has to wait? Let me know how you're going to cope in the comments!

Wowie Zowie! We Got to Play Super Mario Wonder On Nintendo Switch!
It is not every day that a new mainline Super Mario Bros game comes out, and with the release of Super Mario Wonder, I am going to be able to explore a new Mario Game for the first time ever with my youngest daughter. But I've already gotten to play part of it! That's right, we got to play the new Super Mario Bros Wonder on the Nintendo Switch before the release day, at least the demo of the 1st level at our local Target store. Let's take a closer look!
Graphics:
First things first, I love the graphics and animation style that has gone into Super Mario Wonder. I like how it looks like the characters are at a slight angle to the screen, almost comic-book style. I also love how it looks like a very natural progression to the New Super Mario Bros Series. I thought the characters all looked great and the little tweaks were fantastic too.
Music:
If you know who Smooth McGroove is then the music should have that vibe. I thought what little music I was able to hear was also great, although the fact that it didn't feel like the OG Mario Theme or the NEW SMB theme was a little weird. Not bad, just not what you'd typically get from a Mario Game. It's like playing Super Mario 3D World for the first time and getting those Bass notes. I like the jazz feel, just not traditional.
Gameplay:
Game play felt very tight, like a Mario Game should. The only thing that felt a little off was that it did feel a little laggy on the controls, but I am chalking that up to the TV in-store likely not being set to game mode.
Overall Initial Thoughts:
LOVED IT! I cannot wait to get to play it for real, but I'll have to wait until December as we're going to get it for my youngest for Christmas. So if anyone has an extra copy they're not using in the meantime I could borrow, I'd appreciate it. Please? Pretty please?

Halloween Must Play Games: Castlevania Akumajō Dracula for NES (& FAMICOM!!)
I will admit that Halloween is not one of my favorite times of the year. I don't like blood, guts, or gore. As such, I'm kind of particular in the Halloween-themed games that I play each October. As such, I wanted to share some of my favorite games to play around Halloween with you. I don't dig a ton of blood, guts, and gore, but one game I get gleeful delight from every time I play, and a game I consider one of the Must-play games to play for Halloween is Castlevania for the NES and the Famicom.
You can't have Metroidvania games without Castlevania, can you? Well, the very first game set a very high standard. Known in Japan as Akumajō Dracula, you take control of Simon Belmont, a descendent of a vampire killing legend. Your goal? Enter Count Dracula's castle and destroy him again, 100 years after your ancestor did it the first time.
Originally launched in Japan in 1986 on the Famicom Disk System, it was translated and brought over to the West in 1987 as the very first Castlevania game. Here the legacy of a franchise was born, as players everywhere tried to take down the evil vampire villain and all of his henchmen.
Ofer the years, Castlevania has spawned many sequels, Anime, and even a television show. The Belmont and Dracula family have been linked to each other now for almost 40 years, and with the excellent gameplay, level design, play control, and of course music, Castlevania will surely continue to go on and on.
Are you a fan of the Castlevania series? What was the first game you played and what title was your personal favorite? Have you played the Japanese Famicom Disk System Version? Share your thoughts in the comments!

4K Nintendo 64?!? Analogue 3D N64 FPGA Clone System Announced!
When it comes to clone video game systems, Analogue is know to have some of the best hardware available anywhere. When they announce a new project, people listen. Well, they have announced that 2024 will be the year that we get an HDMI-equipped Nintendo 64, and they are promising it will deliver 4K visuals. Let's dive into things as the Analogue 3D N64 FPGA Clone System has been Announced!
For better understanding on what a Clone video game system is and what FPGA is, please check out our video here: https://youtu.be/pfQLUJLCGhU?si=g5c4El4p85CjXgxF
In a nutshell, what Analogue has done is to recreate the functionality of original Nintendo Hardware using programmable boards and chips. They have done this previously with the NES, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and even the TurboGrafx 16. NIntendo 64 has always been a problem for software developers in the emulation world, so to see them able to get it working on FPGA hardware is impressive.
Key Features:
- 4K resolution.
- Original Display Modes.
- Reference quality recreations of specific model CRT’s and PVM’s.
- Wireless Bluetooth and 2.4g.
- 4 original-style controller ports.
- The first and only aftermarket solution supporting 100% compatibility in every region. USA, EU & JP.
We've had region free mods for the N64 for some time, but generally speaking that only coverts a Japanese system so you can play US titles on it and vice versa. There's never been a real good way to play EU PAL games on a US or Japanese NTSC system or the other way around, so the fact they are claiming this as a feature is exciting. It's also interesting that they are including both Bluetooth AND 2.4GHz connectivity for controllers.
Speaking of the controller, it looks like a knock off of the Retro Fighters Brawler 64, likely to be made by 8BitDo.
What do you think of this? What price would you like to see this available at and where do you think the price will land? And finally when do you think it will ship?

Best Buy Ceasing Selling Physical Movies in Store in 2024
It seems that not even the mighty Best Buy is immune to the streaming service forces that put an end to Blockbuster Video, Family Video, and is doing a number on Red Box. It was leaked that after the 2023 Christmas Holiday Season and as the calendar slips into 2024 Best Buy will be Ceasing Selling Physical Movies in Store in 2024. I know some don't care, I do, but in the end do we have ourselves to blame for it?
Much like the movie rental stores of a bygone era, the idea of purchasing a physical movie or CD has become a thing of the past for many. It's much easier for many people to turn to monthly subscription services to simply consume the content they are looking for. From Netflix, which itself started as a DVD service, to Disney Plus, Hulu, and Amazon Prime, the desire for many to own physical copies of their content has significantly lessened in recent years.
In addition to the growth of the Streaming Service, many people who do still buy physical media don't go in-store any longer. Instead, they turn to online retailers such as Amazon to purchase their physical discs and media online. This way they can order what they want and when it is released it gets shipped right to their door. The day of going to a store for a new movie or DVD is just behind us for many people.
What does this mean in the long run? There have been many who have theorized there will be a time in the future where you will own nothing and be happy about it. For video games, Best Buy has indicated they still intend to carry games in-store, but for how long? The PS5 Slim and Xbox Series S both are digital-only machines and if rumors are to be believed, there is an all-digital version of the Switch 2 in development. As someone who used to manage a Suncoast Motion Picture Company store, I am not looking forward to an all-digital era, but it is coming whether I like it or not.
What are your thoughts on this development? Have you already moved on from buying physical and have you embraced all-digital? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Do You Keep Your Old Sony, Xbox, Or Nintendo Video Game Console Boxes
Over the years, I have collected a number of different video game systems from different manufacturers. Dating back to the original Nintendo Entertainment System, the Super Nintendo, and 64, Sega Genesis, all the way forward to the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch OLED. I remember when I was a teenager I actually had held on to my Super Nintendo box, and I actually stored it above my dresser and it rested on a mirror. I eventually got rid of it, and as I bought each subsequent system either I traded in the previous generation model on the new one or otherwise just sold my systems. Starting with the Wii U, however, I actually started hanging on to my boxes. Since then, I've also gone back and rebought boxes for systems. That's right I've actually gone back and bought any ass boxes, Super Nintendo boxes, boxes, and more. So this got me thinking and wondering how many other people out there actually hold on to their boxes? Do You Keep Your Old Video Game Console Boxes?
I always had an affinity for hanging onto boxes, call me a pack rat. When I got my Wii U, I thought it was actually a really good-looking box. As such I held on to it. Since then, I've just continued to do so. The first box I made a deliberate choice to keep beyond the Wii U and my PlayStation 4 Destiny White edition was my original Nintendo Switch. I still have that box in fact. It seems kind of weird now, keeping empty boxes, but they're actually been times when I've gone out and just purchased a box to complete a system.
What about you? Have you ever purchased just a box for a system? I know many people do this for games and for the manuals for games but what about the systems they play on themselves? Do you prefer to buy a complete in-box system or does it not make a difference to you? Make sure you share your thoughts in the comment section.

Let's Rank My 3 Favorite Nintendo Amibo Figures In My Collection
Since the days of the 3DS and Wii U, Nintendo has tried to sell Amiibo to fans of gaming. I don't have a huge Amiibo collection, that would be Tom and Laci from @DoYouNerd, but I do have a few pieces I really like. So what are my 3 favorite Nintendo Amiibo figures? Well, let's rank some of my favorites that are in my collection here in 2023.
Honorable Mention:
Mario Odyssey Wedding Set
I am sure I am not alone but yes, we had these in our wedding. They were on the Groom's Cake my wife got for me, and that cake was itself shaped like an NES. It was so accurate that, during setup, my stepmother asked people to have me move it.
Number 3
Yarn Yoshi
I love Yoshi's Crafted World and Yoshi's Wooly world. These are so cute, and the yarn Amiibo Yoshi are amazing. To me these feel like Sackboy in Little Big Planet, and the attention to detail is amazing. They were made in a few different colors, my oldest has a blue one but I went for the classic green.
Number 2
Duck Hunt Dog and Duck
Often named the biggest D-Bag in video games, this is one piece that is just so amazing looking. The evolution of the design of the characters is perfect, and it was released just in time for Smash Bros on the Wii U. I love the detail on the duck and dog, they almost look like they could be friends. We all know the truth though, that damned dog is just waiting to laugh at you!!
Number 1
Famicom Robotic Operating Buddy (R.O.B)
Being an NES-kid, yes, I had a ROB to play with back in the day. I've also come to love import Japanese games over the years, so much so that I love the Japanese R.O.B. I think it nails the colors, it nails the looks, and it even has the Famicom Family Computer Robot logo on the face of it. I've yet to score a Japanese R.O.B., but I will one day.
What about you? Do you collect Amiibo? What are your favorite Amiibo in your collection? Let me know in the comments!!

I can FINALLY Play My Sega Dreamcast Again thru the RetroTink 5x!
Several years ago, I upgraded my upscaler setup in my game room from an OSSC to a RetroTink 5x, and I have loved that change. I used to have issues syncing video from my N64 and SNES thru the OSSC and the RetroTink 5X just.. works. Well, mostly. See, one thing missing from the RetroTInk 5x that the OSSC has is a VGA input, as you can get a low-cost VGA cable to get really good video for the Dreamcast. The RetroTink 5X can't do this. So what is one to do? I have an HDMI mod that I've just not installed, but I finally got my hands on an ideal solution from Rondo Products. And now, oh my friends now I can FINALLY Play My Sega Dreamcast Again!
Order the HD15 VGA 2 SCART adapter at https://collabs.shop/l1alko
While the RetroTink 5x doesn't have a VGA input, it does has RGB SCART, and here is our opportunity. Rondo Products sells a VGA-2-SCART adapter, and best of all it's only $30! THis will convert my incoming VGA connector to SCART, which I can then run into my SCART Switcher, and from there go into my RetroTink 5X. BRILLIANT!
So why would I want to do this vs just installing the HDMI mod? Well, there's a few reasons. When I got the Mod Kit, it was before I had suffered an attack of Bell's Palsey. That really messed up my eyesight, even to this day. As such I no longer have the confidence I can perform delicate work such as this an longer. Secondly, while HDMI is convenient, it's also a lot of work. Going from a VGA cable to a SCART connector means I can also upscale the image up to 5x through the RetroTink!
So if you're keeping score this requires no mods, no soldering, no hard installation, AND you can get potentially BETTER video quality! I am so glad that Rondo Products got these back in stock, as I cannot wait to play my DreamCast yet again. After all, it's been thinking a long time.

Must-Play Games For Halloween: Splatterhouse Series
I will admit that Halloween is not one of my favorite times of the year. I don't like blood, guts, or gore. As such, I'm kind of particular in the Halloween-themed games that I play each October. As such, I wanted to share some of my favorite games to play around Halloween with you. I don't dig a ton of blood, guts, and gore, but one game I get gleeful delight from every time I play, and a game I consider one of the must Must-play games to play for Halloween is Splatterhouse.
Part horror game, part Halloween/Michael Myers, and part beat 'em up. Splatterhouse was developed by Namco for the arcades and was eventually brought into homes on the TurboGrafx-16. In Splatterhouse, you play as Rick Taylor, searching for his friend Jennifer Willis. Rick is under the influence of the Terror Mask or Hell Mask, a Mayan artifact found in the house of Dr. West. Here the mask fuses to Rick's body and provides him with super strength and special abilities he will use to attempt to rescue Jennifer.
There were several sequels to Splatterhouse over the years, Splatterhouse was released on the Sega Genesis and Mega Drive. There was also a bit of a parody release in Japan on the Nintendo Famicom called Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti. It was the second game to be released in the Splatterhouse video game series & technically the first Splatterhouse game to be released for a home console.
The game is a parody of the arcade game Splatterhouse. It takes a comical approach to its presentation, having "super deformed” characters, parodying horror movies, and by incorporating other pop-culture references related to the genre into itself.
I really love the original Splatterhouse on the TG16, it gives me the same kick as God of War does. It's just a hack-and-slash, but really well done. Have you ever played Splatterhouse? At home or in the arcade? And which was your favorite? Share your thoughts in the comments!

OFFICIAL: Playstation 5 Slim and PS5 Slim Digital Coming November '23
After many months and months of speculation, we finally have confirmation from Sony that the mid-cycle update for their PlayStation 5 and PS5 All-Digital is on its way. They have also confirmed that when the existing stock of the original versions of both the PS5 Digital and the Disc version are sold out at retail, all models moving forward will be this new design. For those looking to get your hands on one, you won't have to wait long as the Playstation 5 Slim and PS5 Slim Digitial Coming to stores in November '23.
It was rumored for some time and Sony unveiled the fact that there really is one core PS5 system moving forward. Whether you get the Disc or Digital Only versions, at the core it is the same machine. The major difference is that the optical disc drive can be removed or installed easily by the end user. If you decide to go with a digital-only version and later wish to get the disc module you can do that for around $80. If you're thinking that's a deal, since the Digital version was $100 less than the disc version, you'd be wrong.
See, normally there's a mid-cycle price cut that Sony brings into play. The mid-cycle refresh normally has reduced manufacturing costs, which get passed onto the consumer. Well, sorry 'bout your luck because there's no price cut on the Disc version, and there's a price INCREASE on the digital version! That's right, the digital version has jumped from $399 USD to $449 USD. So yeah, if you decide to upgrade your sparkling new PS5 Slim Digital with a disk drive you'll actually spend MORE than if you just bought a Disc version to start!
This is definitely an odd play for Sony, especially with price INCREASES and removed features. Oh, that's right, if you want a vertical stand that's separate now too for another $30. Sticking it to the consumer at every turn, as someone who loves PlayStation IPs this is really hard to swallow.
What do you think of this news? Share your thoughts in the comments!

I'm Dumb: True Meaning Of the Mario Switch OLED 19 Coins
I have to really thank this community, there are some amazingly brilliant smart people out there, many of whom are smarter than I am. During our recent unboxing and overview of the just-released Nintendo Switch OLED Super Mario edition, I made note of the 19 coins underneath the rear door of the system. For the life of me I could not figure out the significance of these. Thanks to all of you for pointing out that I am dumb, and I truly do appreciate that because once I saw what it was I felt dumb. This is the true meaning of the Mario Switch OLED 19 Coins inside the back of the dock.
The very first Super Mario Bros you quickly come upon a pipe that Mario can go down. Inside of this pipe, there are a number of coins for you to collect. How many coins exactly? 19. 19 coins laid out precisely as they are on the back of the dock. That is the significance of the coins inside the dock, they are there to represent the 19 coins in the very first pipe. These are The coins that are represented inside the back of the system's dock. I feel incredibly stupid for not realizing that in the first place, but I'm also very appreciative of this community for helping me figure it out.
As such, are there any things like this that you've discovered or had pointed out after the fact that once you realize it you slap your forehead and think why did I realize that before? This is definitely happened to me before, and will probably happen again. Let me know what your thoughts are in the comment section.

$5 Video Game Hunting Challenge at 5ive Bel°w
It has been a while since I have been inside our local 5ive Bel°w store so I figured it was time to do another $5 gaming challenge. The thing that's interesting, kind of like the Dollar Stores and Dollar Tree, is there's not much that's below five bucks anymore in Five Below. That being said we wanted to check and see what there was to find for another $5 Video Game Hunting Challenge at 5ive Bel°w.
In the past, they have carried things like Joy-Cons for the Nintendo Switch, chargers, fans, and even games for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Our local store had practically nothing at this point in early October. There were some gaming keyboards, mice, and stuff that was more PC-related, but the dedicated video stuff was minimal.
One thing that did catch my eye was they did have a number of the My Arcade mini arcade cabinets, Dig Dug, Bad Dudes, and Karate Champ. These are fun little units, neat if you just want something to play but nowhere near the quality of like a New Wave Toys mini cabinet. They have three different models here, but for 20 bucks each, this was a hard pass.
Last year I picked up two desk mats, one that was Mario-related and one that was Mario Kart-related. My Mario Kart-related one has been at the office with me since I got it, and it's looking a bit rough. They had another one of these on hand, and I haven't seen them since I got mine last year. I went ahead and grabbed one and will be retiring the one that I've been using. It's gross.
Above and beyond that, there wasn't really a whole lot here. There were some Super Mario figures, some Sonic the Hedgehog figures, and some other toys. I classify those more as toys and less gaming-related. I have to admit I was kind of bummed out to see this, but in the end, it saved me some money.
Have you noticed if your local 5ive Bel°w stores have been reducing the amount of video game items they carry on site? Share some of your gaming accessory wins that you've had at Five Below. I'd love to see what you've gotten in the comments.

Games You NEED To Play For Halloween | Kid Dracula By Konami
I will admit that Halloween is not one of my favorite times of year. I don't like blood, guts, or gore. As such, I'm kind of particular in the Halloween-themed games that I play each October. As such, I wanted to share some of my favorite games to play around Halloween with you. Up first, one of the best games for the Nintendo Famicom and one of the games I feel you need to play for Halloween, this is Kid Dracula.
Known as Akumajō Special Boku Dracula-kun, in Japan, Kid Dracula is based in the world of Castlevania by Konami, but instead of playing as Simon Belmont you actually get to play as Dracula himself, or more specifically a younger, kid version of Dracula. Heavily inspired by other games in the series, kid Dracula's first level is actually the map essentially from the very first game.
Kid Dracula definitely leans more on the cute side of things than the horror side of things. For example, one of the early enemies you will go up against is Frankenstein's monster, but you can't help but think how cute they look. There's no blood, there's no decapitations or anything along those lines, and where Konami definitely made cute 'em up vertical shooters such as Parodius da, this could be almost classified as a cute 'em up and the Castlevania series. I love the animation, the music is just phenomenal, and this is a ton of fun to play.
While Kid Dracula was available originally on the Nintendo Famicom, it never made its way to the NES. Instead, Konami actually ported it to the Game Boy. Until recent years that was the only Americanized version of Kid Dracula you could play. Thankfully, Konami included it in the Castlevania collection for the Nintendo Switch and other platforms, and it looks and plays marvelously with modern display power behind it.
This is just one of several games that I love playing this time of year. Let me know what are some of your favorite Halloween, October, or spooky-themed games you love.

WAHOO! Nintendo Has Released A New Super Mario Nintendo Switch OLED
It is not every day that Nintendo releases a new system, let alone a special themed version of a console either. In the summer of 2023, Nintendo announced a ton of great games coming to the Switch, but they also announced a very special edition of the Nintendo Switch Itself. For the second time, they released a Mario-themed Nintendo Switch, and unlike the last version which was the original Switch, this is a Switch OLED model. That's right, Nintendo Has Released A New Super Mario Nintendo Switch OLED
Since the launch of the original Nintendo Switch in 2017, there have been rumors of new hardware with 4K support, larger screens, and more. However, what we got, instead of the Switch Pro, is what you see here in the Switch OLED. More of a derivative than something truly innovative, the Switch OLED does include a larger, 7-inch OLED display enhanced speakers, and a new dock. Additionally, Nintendo also doubled the onboard storage from 32GB, which was ridiculously tiny, to begin with, to 64GB. Never fear, there's an external SD card slot for when you inevitably fill up the onboard storage and need to expand.
The dock features a crucial upgrade that many have been demanding since the original's launch, that being an integrated Ethernet port. For those with spotty or slow WiFi, you can't understate how important of an addition this is. It does come at a cost, as the inclusion of the Ethernet port also eliminated one of the onboard USB ports on the dock. As someone with decent WiFi, I am not sure I feel the need for this change, but I can understand its desire. Perhaps in the future, the solution would be to offer 2 docks, one with the Ethernet port and the other with the USB port, and go from there.
The Mario theming is definitely more subtle here than, say, the Zelda theming on that Special Edition, but it works. Let me know what you think of this in the comments and you plan on getting one!

Ranking My Favorite and Least Favorite Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Tracks
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch has so many great tracks from so many amazing entries. From tracks on the original Super Nintendo, tracks on the Mobile Game, and even originals for Mario Kart 8, there's something here for everyone. Let's talk about some of my favorites as I rank some of my Favorite and Least Favorite Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Tracks.
Favorites:
Mario Circuit 3 (SNES)
Mute City (MK8)
Baby Park (GameCube)
Excitebike Arena (MK8)
Least Favorites:
Paris Promenade (Mario Kart Tour)
Electrodome (MK8)
Melody Motorway (3DS)
Things I like:
There are definitely some consistencies here that I prefer and Like. The speed and chaos of both Baby Park and Excitebike Arena are a blast to mee, and I definitely love that Baby Park is a longer race. I do really like the jumping in Excitebike as well, but man, I do wish it had more laps. Being a fan of the Super Nintendo, the original Mario Kart, and F-Zero, it is no shock that both Mute City and Mario Circuit 3 are in my favorites list.
Things I don't like:
I've not really enjoyed any of the Mario Kart Tour Tracks, or frankly, Mario Kart Tour itself. I don't think Mario Kart lends itself well to motion or touch controls, and they don't translate well to the Switch. I also don't care for Electrodome or Melody Motorway for many of the same reasons on both of them. The rhythmic parts of the track just aren't fun to me, and the notes bouncing off the track and making your car go in the air is irritating. Overall, these are some of my least favorite tracks on any Mario Kart game.
What say you? What are some of the tracks in ANY Mario Kart that you like? What about your least favorite tracks? Share your thoughts in the comments!

You Can Store 80 Game Boy Games In This Massive 3D Printed Stand!
I love 3D Printing , you have all seen some of the really cool stuff I've offered on my 3D Printed Accessories Site. I've offered 8, 16, and 32 count Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, and Game Boy Color storage stands for some time. At the IllinoisGameCon, @megadan2988 asked me if I could design and print a massive 80-count holder for these cartridges. I decided that I would put one on the printer and make it happen, and the results are amazing.
I loaded up the file into my Bambu P1S printer and got to printing. I had to do a few different test prints as early prints had a bit too much flex and give. I also had to add some supports as I was getting some excessive stringing on the underside of the print. After a few tests, and several 14 hour prints, I had it.
The overall fit and finish of this stand is nothing short of awesome. I absolutely love the way it turned out, even though I did have to provide some supports during the print, something I typically don't do. I printed this in a few different colors, one of which for another YouTube Channel. When I was done with this print, I got theirs sent out and printed another for myself and/or for Megadan.
So in the end, this is an awesome looking print and I absolutely love it. These aren't cheap just because of how long it takes to print and the supports it needs. I will have these on my website for sale, which you can definitely go and order now.

Best Buy Plus Ends B2G1 Switch Game Promo Before the Holidays! :(
You know it's not often I need to post an update to a video so quickly, but we go. Several days ago I posted how joining Best Buy's My Best Buy Plus program gave you pricing and return protection for 60 days, meaning you can buy the tech you're interested in now and know that if it goes on sale between now and Black Friday you can get price adjusted. Another feature that I referenced was the buy two, get one free on Nintendo Switch games. Well, from under our noses, Best Buy has removed this perk, and as a consumer, I feel kind of screwed over as Best Buy Plus Ends B2G1 Switch Game Promo Before the Holidays! :(
So a little bit of a backstory here, my Best Buy Plus is a $49.99 a year annual subscription that offers benefits such as priority 2-day shipping, exclusive sales and prices on items, 60-day price match and return window, and for me, one of the biggest benefits was the fact they offered by two get one free on Nintendo Switch games for members. Now, any promotion or sale can end at any time, I get that. I worked in retail long enough to understand that concept. The issue that I take with this and removing this benefit is the fact that they listed it as an everyday benefit. Words have meaning, and I took them at their word. Clearly, everyday does not mean the same thing to them as it does to me.
I strongly feel that Best Buy is in the wrong here. Here's the thing, they literally said every day. One of the reasons why I subscribed to the My Best Buy Plus package is for this benefit. I called my oldest daughter the day that I signed up for it so that way if she wanted to get games for herself or her boyfriend over the holidays we could do it and save some money.
So what's the recourse? Well, I'm still within the window where I can cancel this plan and not be out of anything. I'm strongly considering doing that. I may hedge my bets and keep it through when the Black Friday ads start showing up, I believe I have up to 60 days to cancel it. I'm very disappointed that they changed this perk, I understand things change, but how they worded it was very disingenuous and dishonest. I've heard some people talking about a class action lawsuit, I don't think that makes sense. If you complain enough to Best Buy they'll likely refund your subscription fee. But regardless, this is a bad look for Best Buy.

Upgrate Your N64 Controller with a Hall Effect Sensor Analog Stick
One of the things synonymous with the Nintendo 64 has to be the stock controller. The trident design has been mocked over the years, but it's one of the most versatile ever produced. One of the weak points of the N64 controller, however, is the analog stick. It can frequently develop considerable slop and lose precision. Many manufacturers have released replacement N64 sticks, but Retro-bit is looking to change things up a bit. Instead of just offering a traditional replacement, Retro-bit has developed a replacement stick that features a Hall Effect Sensor! We've had a chance to install one and play it, and man, it's good. Let's take a closer look.
From Retro-bit:
Have years of smash attacks rendered your analog stick loose? Too many party sessions with that player who is a bit too aggressive with 360-spins? Or has the wear-and-tear caused you to stow away your favorite controller? It's time to bring it back to life with our Analog Stick Repair Module for N64® controllers. Inspired by our Tribute64®, we’ve brought an improved analog stick for use on original N64® controllers! Utilize the full range on this Japanese-made stick that features Hall Effect potentiometers that provides long-lasting performance and won’t drift due to wear and tear. The comfortable thumb grip lets you game for hours without worrying about lasting effects. The replacement process is very simple and takes less than 5 minutes!
What is Hall Effect?
In a standard analog stick, the angle, direction, and speed are all measured using potentiometers. These are very small mechanical units with moving parts that can send the data to the controller's circuitry and provide the appropriate inputs in-game. While these are currently the standard for most analog sticks, even outside of gaming, they do suffer from wear and tear as well as drifting. Drifting is when the analog stick output becomes less precise over time causing it to "drift" away from its intended target. The reasons for this could be a faulty potentiometer, a dirty stick, or just natural wear-and-tear.
This analog stick comes equipped with Hall Effect sensors which utilize electromagnetic density to measure the output through the resistance level of the circuit. Basically, this means that rather than using a mechanical potentiometer, it instead uses electromagnetism to produce the same effect without needing small parts to move around. As such, the performance is much more consistent and with good care, can outlast most standard analog sticks. You won't encounter the same issues that can lead to stick drift with Hall Effect sensors.
Let me tell you, these sticks are terrific! I've helped with some of the early testing and feedback and the prototype I've been using has been nothing but terrific. Make sure you hit that subscribe button as we'll be featuring this stick and installation process in the near future.

Confidential?! Top Secret?!? What is THIS THING For the OG Xbox?!?
We just got a box labeled Confidential?! And Top Secret?!? What could it be? Well, it is from Eon Gaming and it's Designed for the Original OG Xbox.
What do you do if you want to connect your original Xbox to your TV via HDMI? And what if you wanted to have a LAN party with original Xbox hardware? Well, towards the end of May 2023, the team over at Eon Gaming announced a new addition to their product lineup. They are calling it the XBHD, and it has a number of interesting features.
One of the challenges with the original Xbox is the fact that you can't tap right into it and get an HDMI output. You have your multi connector which can output composite, component, and S video. Well, it appears that Eon Gaming is tapping into this port and providing you with an HDMI output. According to their own specs, it will output anywhere from 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i resolutions. This tells me that there is no line multiplication going on here. Unlike something like a RetroTink 2x or RetroTink 5x, what you see is kind of what you get.
It seems like, connecting to your television, The XBHD is more an adapter of convenience than any actual video improvement. Now, this does feature twin HDMI outputs, so you can connect one Xbox to two different TVs to be able to have multiplayer fighting games for example, and each player gets their own television. I don't see the appeal to that, but at the same time, I'm not the biggest Xbox fan either.
Another interesting feature of the XBHD is the integrated LAN adapter and ethernet ports. It appears to feature three different LAN connection ports so you can go ahead and get your LAN party started. Interesting in theory, but in 2023 are LAN parties with original Xbox hardware that common? I don't know the answer to that question. I would think that if you would want to have the equivalent of an Xbox LAN party you would use either an Xbox 360, Xbox One or Xbox Series S or X and connect over the internet. A LAN party requires you to be in the same room, and is anyone really lugging around an original Xbox anymore? I don't know.
One interesting addition is an integrated 3.5mm MiniTOSLINK connector for audio. This is a very generational appropriate connector, but audio and video are both handled by HDMI so I don't know that there's a specific need for this.
In the end, for $190 I am not sure what market needs this is serving. I applaud Eon Gaming for doing something different, and I'm glad to see more love going to more retro hardware. I just don't know where this fits into the landscape of things. When you have the Xbox2HDMI adapter from Shepherd Electronics and things like these Xedusa from the Behar Bros that will get you to an HDMI connector for a fraction of the cost, it prices itself out of the market. I don't think going to HDMI is going to be the big winning feature here, I honestly think this is something that people who are going to set up and host land parties will get the most benefit from.

A $100 Switch Lite With Super Mario Bros U Deluxe? WUT?!?
I'm always looking for a deal or an angle if I can find it. What can I say, my old man instilled the importance of getting a great deal! Well, my youngest daughter has taken to have an appreciation for video games, specifically Mario Kart and Animal Crossing. She continues to play on my wife's Animal Crossing island and moves stuff around. I had considered getting her a Switch Lite to play but just didn't want to spend $200 and another $60 on a 4-year-old. Then I discovered a Facebook Marketplace ad for something that could potentially suit my needs.
The listing was for a blue Swutch Lite and a copy of Super Mario Bros U Deluxe, with the box for the system but no case for the game. The listing had been revised down, from $160 to $120. This was a good deal for sure, but could I do better. I reached out to the seller to see what we could do:
Me - Any flexibility on price? Would you do $100?
Seller - Yeah I can sell it for 100
Me- Would you happen to have the box?
Seller - The box for the switch yes, but no for the game
We made a plan to meet the next afternoon, I checked everything out and it was great. But I knew deep down I didn't want that copy of Mario Bros U Deluxe, we had one. I checked Live Action Games' Website to see if he had any preowned copies of Animal Crossing but he didn't. But our local Disc Replay did, and there was one with a good-looking box for $42. Ok, we're in business I thought. I talked to them to see what they could give me on a loose Mario Bros U Deluxe, and they said $31. Ok, awesome, so with tax I was into this Switch Lite and the copy of Animal Crossing for around $115, right where I wanted to be!
I know for some they'll poo-poo the fact that my 4 year old will be opening a "used" Christmas gift. I don't care, I think she'd going to love it and I am going to enjoy getting her outfitted with a grip and case she'll love. It'll be a good test of her responsibility and if she can handle it. And if she breaks it, well, I have a system I can mod then I guess!!

3 Fantastic Famicom Games That Should Have Been Put on the NES
I have been a fan of collecting games for the Nintendo Famicom for longer than I've had this YouTube Channel. I have often found games that are less expensive for the Japanese counterpart than the USA versions. In addition, there were games released ONLY in Japan that we never got here in the USA. As such what are 3 Fantastic Famicom Games That I Think Should Have Been Put on the NES.
Number 3
Parodius DA!
This is one of the best games on the Famicom and an amazing shooter. If you are a fan of games like Lifeforce and Gradius, you'll love this. It combines many of the best Konami shooters and blends them together for one amazingly fun title. What's great is that it's cute but also challenging. If you can, definitely pick this up!
Number 2
Wai Wai World 2
Much like Parodius Da! Wai Wai World 2 mashes up some of the best action characters, again from Konami, and brings them together in a great action platformer. You get characters from Castlevania, Contra, Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa, and even Goemon. This is a terrific game and a great overall experience.
Number 1
Kid Dracula / Akumajou Special - Boku Dracula-kun
I love this game so much, and it is fantastic! The first level is basically the entire Castlevania 1 game, and it has a, ahem, unique first-level boss. The music is great, the gameplay is fun, and the art style just works so well. I am thrilled that I have this game complete in the box, and I don't think I paid more than $35 for it.
Have you imported any Japanese Famicom Games? What about Japanese games for other systems? What are some of your favorites? There are more than these I love, let me know what your favorites and recommendations are in the comments!

2023 Black Friday Shopping Can Now BEGIN & Get Price Matched LATER!
As of the upload of this video, Black Friday 2023 is only 57 days away! That's crazy to think of, but it's true! I know a lot of people, myself included, will hold off on major purchases until around Black Friday in an attempt to get the best deals possible. Whether you're looking at video games, computers, appliances, or more. For me, My 70" Vizio E70 TV needed replacement due to developing more and more of a blue hue over the years. I've been looking at the TCL Q7 4K QLED HDR Smart TV for some time, and finally decided to pull the trigger, as since I am a My Best Buy member, I get price matching for 60 days! Let's take a closer look on how and why the 2023 Black Friday Shopping Season Can Now Begin, and how you can get price-matched later.
I know this is going to involve some back and forth that not everyone will want to deal with, I get that, but for me this process eliminated my worry. See, this TV sells, normally, for $1400, but it was on sale at the time of this video for $999. A good deal, but I still felt like there was potential for more savings in November. THen I remembered that I am a My Best Buy member and they do offer an extended 60-day return window on most products. Since I am only 57 days out, I am good, so I grabbed the TV I wanted NOW and this way I don't have to skip Thanksgiving dinner and hunker down in a tent to get 1 of 5 doorbuster TV's.
So why the Q7 TV? Well a few reasons. First, the options out there have slimmed for screen size as TVs seem to have eliminated the 70" size and gone to either 65" or 75". My Vizio was a 70" so I didn't want smaller. I also wanted a 120Hz refresh rate, and other TVs didn't offer that. I was also looking at Hisense, and when talking to the store employees they all said the TCLs were better.
Are there any major purchases you're looking to make this Black Friday or Cyber Monday? Let me know what you're gearing up for in the comments!

This Is Why My New Workplace Is Cooler Than Your Workplace
Work is work, am I right? Like we all work so we can have fun and do things we enjoy more. But what if you could work somewhere that also shared some of what you love to do in your free time? Sure, I used to work for an RC car company and that was a blast. And there was a time when we had a foosball table in the break room. But now every day when I come to the office I get to see things that prove Why My New Workplace Is Cooler Than Your Workplace.
Inside part of our building, we have not one, not two, but three stand-up arcade cabinets. And they're not just Arcade 1Up cabs, oh no, no, no. These are the OGs, the originals, the real deal. We have an original Donkey Kong, and Original The Simpsons Arcade, an original Area 51, and an original 1960s-era pinball machine! And they all work!!
Now I have been very busy since coming aboard, so I have legit not had a chance to try any of these out. But I can say that I was there when both the pinball machine and Area 51 were purchased from the Midwest Gaming Classic in 2021. They all work, and all are beautiful in their own flawed way.
The Area 51 Cabinet could definitely use some degaussing and perhaps a new monitor, and the marquee on the Simpson's Arcade machine is faded as well. The best I can tell the Donkey Kong cabinet is in beautiful shape, from the cabinet itself, the display, the marquee, and everything.
Have you ever worked in some place that had arcade machines in it, I am not talking about at a movie theater or actual arcade either. This is pretty fun and cool, and I think speaks to exactly why I decided to join this particular company. Look for more soon, and I can't wait to share more from the future.
And yes, this does mean I hope to be at more video game conventions in the future!!
