Fears, anxieties, and phobias prevent many people from enjoying life. Most of the time, we can’t figure out how they come about and they can strike at any moment.
Anxiety, in particular, can affect the body in two different ways:
1. short term effects such as headaches, increased heart rate and breathing, and even an increase in blood flow to the brain.
2. long term anxieties can have more drastic effects like flooding your nervous system with hormones and chemicals designed to help you respond to a threat but lead to migraines, depression, loss of libido, increased blood pressure, muscle aches and pains, weight gain, heart disease, digestive issues, weakened immune system, insomnia and social isolation.
Many take prescription drugs, but those drugs mask symptoms of anxiety rather than address the root cause. So what is there to do?
Feeling the lack of success with conventional psychotherapy, and particularly with one patient who had an extreme phobia of water, Dr. Roger Callahan, Ph. D., sought out a different route. Though not formally trained in acupuncture, Dr. Callahan was familiar with Chinese medicine — particularly that identified meridian points in the human body where a person’s chi energy flows.
From this experiment with his patient, Dr. Callahan did further study and became the found of Thought Field Therapy (TFT). By “tapping,” with your fingers, at certain meridian points along the body, one can heal a variety of mental and physical ailments.
Dr. Callahan developed a drug-free method that can be monitored and verified by the change of a patient’s physiology using a heart-rate variability machine that tracked their heart-rate in real-time as well as other machines.
