This address was delivered by the late Dr. Schaeffer in 1982 at the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It is based on one of his books, which bears the same title.
"Christians, in the last 80 years or so, have only been seeing things as bits and pieces which have gradually begun to trouble them and others, instead of understanding that they are the natural outcome of a change from a Christian World View to a Humanistic one; things such as overpermissiveness, pornography, the problem of the public schools, the breakdown of the family, abortion, infanticide (the killing of newborn babies), increased emphasis upon the euthanasia of the old and many, many other things.
"All of these things and many more are only the results. We may be troubled with the individual thing, but in reality we are missing the whole thing if we do not see each of these things and many more as only symptoms of the deeper problem. And that is the change in our society, a change in our country, a change in the Western world from a Judeo-Christian consensus to a Humanistic one. That is, instead of the final reality that exists being the infinite creator God; instead of that which is the basis of all reality being such a creator God, now largely, all else is seen as only material or energy which has existed forever in some form, shaped into its present complex form only by pure chance.
"I want to say to you, those of you who are Christians or even if you are not a Christian and you are troubled about the direction that our society is going in, that we must not concentrate merely on the bits and pieces. But we must understand that all of these dilemmas come on the basis of moving from the Judeo-Christian world view -- that the final reality is an infinite creator God -- over into this other reality which is that the final reality is only energy or material in some mixture or form which has existed forever and which has taken its present shape by pure chance."
Francis Schaeffer (January, 30 1912 - May 15, 1984) was an internationally known Christian scholar, thinker, and pastor who, along with his wife Edith, founded L'Abri Fellowship. He is known for his prominent stance against both Secular and Religious Modernism (Liberalism), Existentialism, and Secular Naturalism. His sweeping analysis of historical movements, culture, the arts, and government, and his writings have continued to influence many in fields from philosophy, theology, and the arts to general science. Likewise, his particular take on presuppositional apologetics has continued to be a significant discussion in Christian apologetics. Numerous Christian scholars today give credance to Schaeffer's teaching for both opening their intellect, as well as having been a substantial influence in their lives and ministries.
Schaeffer is known for a significant group of teachings that both encapsulate the historic Protestant Christian position and also form a significant response to Liberalism. Here is a general list:
An emphasis on the inerrancy of scripture.
The Biblical emphasis on the dignity of mankind as created in the image of God.
The stance for santity of LIFE and the stance against abortion, infanticide and euthenasia.
The understanding of "true-truth," as substantial truth for life and godliness.
A moment-by-moment spirituality that brings reality in the Christian walk.
The call to a life of prayer.
An intellectual spirituality and apologetic that engages both the heart and the mind.
The belief in need to give honest answers to honest questions
An emphasis on the role of sincere hospitality in evangelism.
A proper Christian worldview and worldview thinking.
A cultural apologetic that engages culture and informs the mind.
The application of Biblical truth to the whole of life, even government.
Standing for Biblical truth without compromise in the midst of a post-Christian culture.
The practice of a proper balance of truth and love. ("Truth without love is ugly and love without truth is compromise.")
A presuppositional approach to apologetics.
The "Final Apologetic," (Jn. 17:20-21) the practice and balance of living out an observable love toward true Christians without compromise, as a demonstration to a watching world, so that the world may know that God sent His Son.

More Heresy from False Teacher Andy Stanley / Isaiah 5:20
More Heresy from False Teacher Andy Stanley
Isaiah 5:20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness;
Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
23 Who justify the wicked for a bribe,
And take away justice from the righteous man!
24...as the fire devours the stubble,
And the flame consumes the chaff,
So their root will be as rottenness,
And their blossom will ascend like dust;
Because they have rejected the law of the Lord of hosts,
And despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.
25 Therefore the anger of the Lord is aroused against His people...

Russia is Laughing at Us
Brittney Griner lands back in US after Biden admin's controversial prisoner swap
Biden announced Griner was released in a prisoner swap for Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, who is known as the 'merchant of death.'
The deal was finalized after Russia showed it was unwilling to free U.S. citizen Paul Whelan, a Marine and Iraqi war veteran Russia arrested in 2018 for allegedly conducting intelligence work, the White House said. Whelan was convicted in 2020.
The exchange caused some backlash as Bout was previously convicted of selling weapons used in the killing of Americans.
Bout has already returned to Russia as Russian TV showed him walking off a plane on a snow-covered tarmac in Moscow.
His mother and wife were there to greet him.

J. Gresham Machen (1881-1937) was the principal figure in the founding of the OPC if for no other reason than that the Presbyterian controversy in which he played a crucial role provided the backdrop for the denomination begun in 1936. A distinguished New Testament scholar at Princeton Seminary from 1906 to 1929, Machen defended the historical reliability of the Bible in such works as The Origin of Paul's Religion (1921) and The Virgin Birth of Christ (1930). He emerged as the chief spokesman for Presbyterian conservatives by issuing a devastating critique of Protestant modernism in the popular books Christianity and Liberalism (1923) and What is Faith? (1925). When the northern Presbyterian church (PCUSA) rejected his arguments during the mid-1920s and decided to reorganize Princeton Seminary to create a moderate school, Machen took the lead in founding Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia (1929) where he taught New Testament until his death. His continued opposition during the 1930s to liberalism in his denomination's foreign missions agencies led to the creation of a new organization, The Independent Board for Presbyterian Foreign Missions (1933). The trial, conviction and suspension from the ministry of Independent Board members, including Machen, in 1935 and 1936 provided the rationale for the formation in 1936 of the OPC. Only six months after the new denomination's beginning, Machen died in Bismarck, North Dakota while trying to rally support for the OPC. He was arguably the most important conservative Protestant thinker of the first half of the twentieth century and the guiding light for the first generation of Orthodox Presbyterians.
A distinguished New Testament scholar at Princeton Seminary from 1906 to 1929, Machen defended the historical reliability of the Bible in such works as The Origin of Paul's Religion (1921) and The Virgin Birth of Christ (1930).

Thank Him; Dwell Acceptably - Charles Spurgeon Devotional Faith's Checkbook Psalm 140:13 #shorts
Psalm 140:13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.
Charles Spurgeon Devotional: Faith's Checkbook Playlist: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2A5DC93549644D84
A PROMISE from God may very instructively be compared to a check payable to order. It is given to the believer with the view of bestowing upon him some good thing. It is not meant that he should read it over comfortably, and then have done with it. No, he is to treat the promise as a reality, as a man treats a check.
He is to take the promise, and endorse it with his own name by personally receiving it as true. He is by faith to accept it as his own. He sets to his seal that God is true, and true as to this particular word of promise. He goes further, and believes that he has the blessing in having the sure promise of it and therefore he puts his name to it to testify to the receipt of the blessing.
This done, he must believingly present the promise to the LORD, as a man presents a check at the counter of the Bank. He must plead it by prayer, expecting to have it fulfilled. If he has come to Heaven's bank at the right date, he will receive the promised amount at once. If the date should happen to be further on, he must patiently wait till its arrival; but meanwhile he may count the promise as money, for the Bank is sure to pay when the due time arrives.
Some fail to place the endorsement of faith upon the check, and so they get nothing; and others are slack in presenting it, and these also receive nothing. This is not the fault of the promise, but of those who do not act with it in a common-sense, business-like manner.
God has given no pledge which He will not redeem, and encouraged no hope which He will not fulfill. To help my brethren to believe this, I have prepared this little volume. The sight of the promises themselves is good for the eyes of faith: the more we study the words of grace, the more grace shall we derive from the words. To the cheering Scriptures I have added testimonies of my own, the fruit of trial and experience. I believe all the promises of God, but many of them I have personally tried and proved. I have seen that they are true, for they have been fulfilled to me. This, I trust, may be cheering to the young; and not without solace to the older sort. One man's experience may be of the utmost use to another; and this is why the man of God of old wrote, "I sought the LORD, and he heard me"; and again, "This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him."
I commenced these daily portions when I was wading in the surf of controversy. Since then I have been cast into "waters to swim in," which, but for God's upholding hand, would have proved waters to drown in. I have endured tribulation from many hails. Sharp bodily pain succeeded mental depression, and this was accompanied both by bereavement and affliction in the person of one dear as life. The waters rolled in continually, wave upon wave. I do not mention this to exact sympathy, but simply to let the reader see that I am no dry-land sailor. I have traversed full many a time those oceans which are not Pacific: I know the roll of the billows, and the rush of the winds. Never were the promises of Jehovah so precious to me as at this hour. Some of them I never understood till now; I had not reached the date at which they matured, for I was not myself mature enough to perceive their meaning.
How much more wonderful is the Bible to me now than it was a few months ago! In obeying the LORD, and bearing His reproach outside the camp, I have not received new promises; but the result to me is much the same as if I had done so, for the old ones have opened up to me with richer stores.

Psalm 62 & 63 Devotion / God Alone is Our Rock & Salvation - Pastor Hines Reformed Christian Podcast
1Truly my soul silently waits for God;
From Him comes my salvation.
2 He only is my rock and my salvation;
He is my defense;
I shall not be greatly moved. (Psalm 62:1-2)
O God, You are my God;
Early will I seek You;
My soul thirsts for You;
My flesh longs for You
In a dry and thirsty land
Where there is no water.
2 So I have looked for You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory. (Psalm 63:1-2)

10 “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
And do not return there,
But water the earth,
And make it bring forth and bud,
That it may give seed to the sower
And bread to the eater,
11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me [c]void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:10 - 11)

The Institutionalization of the Surveillance State
The institutionalization of the surveillance state along with the broad enforcement of CBDCs and ESG guidelines will result in the same social credit system being implemented in the west.
This is the creation of a digital "god". A "god" who will be swift in his punishment.

In Defense of the Global Flood and Why it Matters - Pastor Patrick Hines Sermon
Then the Lord said to Noah, “Come into the ark, you and all your household, because I have seen that you are righteous before Me in this generation. 2 You shall take with you seven each of every clean animal, a male and his female; two each of animals that are unclean, a male and his female; 3 also seven each of birds of the air, male and female, to keep [a]the species alive on the face of all the earth. 4 For after seven more days I will cause it to rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and I will destroy from the face of the earth all living things that I have made.” 5 And Noah did according to all that the Lord commanded him. 6 Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters were on the earth.
7 So Noah, with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives, went into the ark because of the waters of the flood. 8 Of clean animals, of animals that are unclean, of birds, and of everything that creeps on the earth, 9 two by two they went into the ark to Noah, male and female, as God had commanded Noah. 10 And it came to pass after seven days that the waters of the flood were on the earth. 11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. 12 And the rain was on the earth forty days and forty nights.
13 On the very same day Noah and Noah’s sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them, entered the ark— 14 they and every beast after its kind, all cattle after their kind, every creeping thing that creeps on the earth after its kind, and every bird after its kind, every bird of every sort.
15 And they went into the ark to Noah, two by two, of all flesh in which is the breath of life. 16 So those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him; and the Lord shut him in.

From church website:
We subscribe to the Westminster Standards as our doctrinal statement. It consists of the following documents:
The Westminster Confession of Faith
The Westminster Larger Catechism
The Westminster Shorter Catechism
We also believe that Christian Worship is to be regulated and defined by God's Word, the Bible.
Our worship services are designed to please and honor the Triune God of the Bible. We place Scripture reading and the preaching of the word of God at the center of worship along with Baptism and the Lord's Supper. These are God's gifts to His church and ought to always be at the center of Christian worship. We are a congregation that loves to sing God's praises, recite His Word back to Him, and actively engage in hearing and learning from God's Word.
We embrace and promote a comprehensive Christian world and life view.
There is no area of life which is not under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. It is to God and His law which all people, including governments and civil rulers, will answer. The Word of God embraces and informs the way we view marriage, the family, children, education, politics, worship, law, government, war, the church, missions, evangelism, and worship. In the world today there is a battle of opposing worldviews. There are basically only two positions: God's Word and man's ideas. We stand positively for Biblical truth and negatively against man's ideas which are opposed to Biblical truth.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the only hope for mankind.
Because all men fall short of obeying God's law, all men everywhere are in need of divine grace and salvation from God. This salvation is found only in the Lord Jesus Christ who died for sinners, was buried, rose again, and is alive today seated at God the Father's right hand.
We Worship God Together as Families.
We offer nursery during morning worship service for newborns and infants but encourage people to keep as many of their children as they can with them for morning worship. The audio of the service is in the nursery via speakers. There is also a crying room with a video screen and audio of the sermon. We offer Sunday school classes for all ages but worship together as families. We do not offer "children's" church. Children need to be in morning worship as soon as possible so they can learn how to participate as active worshipers of God which includes the singing of His praises and listening actively to sermons.

A Challenge and a Shield! - Charles Haddon (C.H.) Spurgeon Sermon
“Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us." (Romans 8:34)
A Challenge and a Shield! - Charles Haddon (C.H.) Spurgeon Sermon
Charles Haddon (C.H.) Spurgeon (June 19, 1834 January 31, 1892) was a British Reformed Baptist preacher who remains highly influential among Christians of different denominations, among whom he is still known as the "Prince of Preachers." In his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to around 10,000,000 people, often up to 10 times a week at different places. His sermons have been translated into many languages. Spurgeon was the pastor of the New Park Street Chapel in London for 38 years. In 1857, he started a charity organization called Spurgeon's which now works globally. He also founded Spurgeon's College, which was named after him after his death.
Spurgeon was a prolific author of many types of works including sermons, an autobiography, a commentary, books on prayer, a devotional, a magazine, and more. Many sermons were transcribed as he spoke and were translated into many languages during his lifetime. Arguably, no other author, Christian or otherwise, has more material in print than C.H. Spurgeon.

Morningstar: The Story of John Wycliffe (Movie Trailer)
Morningstar: The Story of John Wycliffe (Movie Trailer)
DISCOVER THE STORY OF THE MAN WHO TRANSLATED THE BIBLE INTO ENGLISH AND CHANGED THE WORLD FOREVER.
▶️SUBSCRIBE on the Morningstar webpage (www.morningstarfilm.co.uk) to hear all the details about upcoming screenings and releases.
Setting out from Oxford University, seeking fame and fortune, Wycliffe swiftly finds himself caught between the titanic powers of church and state, facing imprisonment and charged with heresy. From the Black Death to the Peasants’ Revolt, from the Papal Schism to the Earthquake Synod, Wycliffe’s life will be shaped by conflict.
Despite this, the core struggle of Morningstar is not political, but spiritual. Fuelled by suppressed ambition, Wycliffe is forced to face the deepest of questions. Why is the world the way it is? Why are ordinary folk living in thrall to Kings and Popes? And why is the church so different to the Christianity of the Bible?
It is Wycliffe's new focus on the Bible that brings down on his head the wrath of the bishops, but inspires a revolution of faith in the farms and villages of England..
While Wycliffe's Bible has ensured his legacy right into the 21st Century, his story has been largely forgotten. Morningstar seeks to address that, and to allow a fresh contemporary audience to meet for themselves a man of genius; to witness his struggle against the powers of his day, and to bring into existence a book that would define the English language.

From Wiki:
John Wycliffe (/ˈwɪklɪf/; also spelled Wyclif, Wickliffe, and other variants; 1328 – 31 December 1384) was an English scholastic philosopher, theologian, biblical translator, reformer, Catholic priest, and a seminary professor at the University of Oxford. He became an influential dissident within the Roman Catholic priesthood during the 14th century and is considered an important predecessor to Protestantism. Wycliffe questioned the privileged status of the clergy, who had bolstered their powerful role in England, and the luxury and pomp of local parishes and their ceremonies.
Wycliffe advocated translation of the Bible into the common vernacular. According to tradition, Wycliffe is said to have completed a translation direct from the Vulgate into Middle English – a version now known as Wycliffe's Bible. While it is probable that he personally translated the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, it is possible he translated the entire New Testament. At any rate, it is assumed that his associates translated the Old Testament. Wycliffe's Bible appears to have been completed prior to 1384 with additional updated versions being done by Wycliffe's assistant John Purvey, and others, in 1388 and 1395. More recently, historians of the Wycliffite movement have suggested that Wycliffe had at most, a minor role in the actual translations.
Wycliffe's later followers, derogatorily called Lollards by their orthodox contemporaries in the 15th and 16th centuries, adopted many of the beliefs attributed to Wycliffe such as theological virtues, predestination, iconoclasm, and the notion of caesaropapism, while questioning the veneration of saints, the sacraments, requiem masses, transubstantiation, monasticism, and the legitimacy of the Papacy. Like the Waldensians, Hussites and Friends of God, the Lollard movement in someways anticipated the Protestant Reformation. Wycliffe was accordingly characterised as the "evening star" of scholasticism and as the morning star or stella matutina of the English Reformation, an epithet first accorded to the theologian by the 16th century historian and controversialist John Bale in his Illustrium maioris britanniae scriptorum (Wesel, 1548).
Wycliffe's writings in Latin greatly influenced the philosophy and teaching of the Czech reformer Jan Hus (c. 1369–1415), whose execution in 1415 sparked a revolt and led to the Hussite Wars of 1419–1434.
Fighting the One Two Punch of Depression & Temptation - Pastor Patrick Hines Sermon
5 So too Christ did not glorify Himself [in] becoming a high priest, but [it was] He who said to Him, "YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE FATHERED YOU"; 6 just as He also says in another [passage,] "YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK." 7 In the days of *His humanity, *He offered up both prayers and pleas with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him *from death, and He *was heard because of His devout behavior. 8 Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered.
9 And having been perfected, He became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey Him, 10 being designated by God as High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek. (Hebrews 5-10 / NASB20)

Our God is Holy - Rich Moore Original Christian Music / Scripture Praise Song
Our God is Holy / Psalm 99 - Psalm Song / Rich Moore
A new contemporary Christian song I just wrote the music for the other day (words are from Psalm 99) and decided to record. May those who might listen find it a blessing, to the glory of God.
All contents of this video are owned and copyrighted by stack45ny.
Psalm 99
1 The Lord reigns;
Let the peoples tremble!
He dwells between the cherubim;
Let the earth be moved!
2 The Lord is great in Zion,
And He is high above all the peoples.
3 Let them praise Your great and awesome name—
He is holy.
4 The King's strength also loves justice;
You have established equity;
You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.
5 Exalt the Lord our God,
And worship at His footstool—
He is holy.
6 Moses and Aaron were among His priests,
And Samuel was among those who called upon His name;
They called upon the Lord, and He answered them.
7 He spoke to them in the cloudy pillar;
They kept His testimonies and the ordinance He gave them.
8 You answered them, O Lord our God;
You were to them God-Who-Forgives,
Though You took vengeance on their deeds.
9 Exalt the Lord our God,
And worship at His holy hill;
For the Lord our God is holy.

Sodom: As In The Days Of Sodom & Gomorrah
This blockbuster, 1 hour documentary, entitled 'Sodom', originally aired on Russian prime-time TV in May of 2015, causing a sensation in Russia at the time.
It has never appeared anywhere in English, until now, subtitled or dubbed. This translation is dubbed.
It had a substantial 6 figure budget, allowing Russian journalists to travel widely - to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Italy, Australia, Germany, and elsewhere, to do ground-breaking, original investigation into the LGBT movement.This blockbuster, 1 hour documentary, entitled 'Sodom', originally aired on Russian prime-time TV in May of 2015, causing a sensation in Russia at the time.

YouTube keeps taking this down because apparently it hurts some homosexuals 'feewings'. If they do, here is a non-YouTube link, and here is another one.
The film is interesting on a number of levels. It was made by Arkady Mamontov, a popular TV host and investigative journalist famous for his ground-breaking documentaries.
Mamontov is a conservative Christian. His best known recent film is about the Greek orthodox monastic island of Athos (in Russian only). He has also done a lot of work on Russian social issues, and on the Ukraine conflict.
The film relects popular attitudes towards LGBT in Russia, and is interesting in that it shows what Russians are told about LGBT and Americans in their mainstream media.
The dub is by Russians who speak good English, and is not bad at all.
After a somewhat dull intro section recalling the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, the film gets interesting.
It leads with a comical interview with an unsuspecting German Lutheran priest in Berlin with a taste for sodomy who explains how Christianity does not actually proscribe this peculiar predilection.
It then profiles Scott Lively - an anti-LGBT activist who takes the Russian journos on a guided tour of lavishly funded Washington DC lobbying organizations pushing LGBT issues deep into the bowels of the the US government (no pun intended).
Next comes a spooky parade of homosexual weirdos - gays being married in Germany, an artificial insemination clinic in LA, grotesque sex freaks at a parade in San Francisco, at which a skeptical mailman tells an Adam and Steve joke, a truly disturbing video of a gay man fake-suckling newborn infants, taken from their surrogate mother minutes earlier, and a painfully awkward scene of a sodomite male couple showing how they raise their children.
We then go to Italy, to talk to a reformed homosexual who realized he had been sucked into a giant hoax and went straight while embracing Christianity, and see a profile of the massive anti-gay movement there, which brings millions into the streets to protest the advance of LGBT, as well as a smaller similar movement in Germany.
Next is Moldova, a small eastern European country sandwiched between Ukraine and Romania, and a battle-ground state in the US-Russia power struggle, where we hear about how US diplomats put heavy pressure on the local government to allow gay parades and the advancement of LGBT issues to a skeptical populace.
Next is the country of Georgia, where there is also a very strong anti-LGBT movement due to the extremely conservative attitudes towards sexual roles in society. The film exposes how, while he was in power, the former president Mikheil Saakashvili, institutionalized sodomy as a method of torture in Georgian prisons against political opponents, showing a man being sodomized. Unsurprisingly, Saakashvili's popularity in Georgia didn't last, and now he has been installed as the mayor of Odessa, Ukraine, by American neocons, much to the chagrin of certain members of the government in Kiev.
The film argues that the sodomy technique is an American export, used in Iraq, Georgia, and Ukraine by Americans and their clients deliberately in countries with conservative social mores, where such an event is the ultimate humiliation for a man, worse even than death.
The film closes with a brief profile of how Russian society rejects LGBT, quoting Christian teaching on marriage:
"A union, between a man and a woman, granted by God, gives humanity a chance to continue life. There is a deep sense to the biblical passage 'Be fruitful and muliply, and fill the earth'"

Dr. David Mackereth became a Christian in 1982 whilst studying medicine at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. Between 1990 and 1992 he trained for the Bible preaching ministry at the London Theological Seminary, founded by Dr. Martyn Lloyd Jones. He worked in Accident and Emergency Medicine, but over the years was able to engage in Gospel preaching ministry. In 2018 he hit the national headlines as the Christian Doctor who refused to use transgender pronouns, whilst working for a government agency. This action got him fired, but he does not regret standing up for the truth. With God’s help, he continues to take a firm stand on this, and other issues.

Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God - Classic Sermon (excerpt) by Puritan Jonathan Edwards
Find FULL SERMON here on "Top 10 Most Popular Sermons" playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzOwqed_gET3I_hiobSa2ftDDZZW-HoD7
But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; (Proverbs 1:25-26 / King James Version)
Jonathan Edwards - (1703-1758), American puritan theologian and philosopher
Edwards was born in East Windsor, Connecticut, to Timothy Edwards, pastor of East Windsor, and Esther Edwards. The only son in a family of eleven children, he entered Yale in September, 1716 when he was not yet thirteen and graduated four years later (1720) as valedictorian. He received his Masters three years later.
As a youth, Edwards was unable to accept the Calvinist sovereignty of God. He once wrote, "From my childhood up my mind had been full of objections against the doctrine of God's sovereignty It used to appear like a horrible doctrine to me." However, in 1721 he came to the conviction, one he called a "delightful conviction." He was meditating on 1 Timothy 1:17, and later remarked, "As I read the words, there came into my soul, and was as it were diffused through it, a sense of the glory of the Divine Being; a new sense, quite different from any thing I ever experienced before I thought with myself, how excellent a Being that was, and how happy I should be, if I might enjoy that God, and be rapt up to him in heaven; and be as it were swallowed up in him for ever!" From that point on, Edwards delighted in the sovereignty of God. Edwards later recognized this as his conversion to Christ.
In 1727 he was ordained minister at Northampton and assistant to his maternal grandfather, Solomon Stoddard. He was a student minister, his rule being thirteen hours of study a day. In the same year, he married Sarah Pierpont, then age seventeen, daughter of James Pierpont (1659-1714), a founder of Yale, originally called the Collegiate School. In total, Jonathan and Sarah had eleven children.
Solomon Stoddard died on February 11th, 1729, leaving to his grandson the task of the sole ministerial charge of one of the largest and wealthiest congregations in the colony. Throughout his time in Northampton his preaching brought remarkable religious revivals. Jonathan Edwards was a key figure in what has come to be called the First Great Awakening of the 1730s and 1740s.
Yet, tensions flamed as Edwards would not continue his grandfather's practice of open communion. Stoddard, his grandfather, believed that communion was a "converting ordinance." Surrounding congregations had been convinced of this, and as Edwards became more convinced that this was harmful his public disagreement with the idea caused his dismissal in 1750.
Edwards then moved to Stockbridge, Massachusetts, a frontier settlement, where he ministered to a small congregation and served as missionary to the Housatonic Indians. Having more time for study and writing he completed his celebrated work The Freedom of the Will (1754).
Edwards was elected president of the College of New Jersey (later Princeton University) in early 1758. He was a popular choice, for he had been a friend of the College since its inception and was the most eminent American philosopher-theologian of his time. On March 22, 1758, he died of fever at the age of fifty-four following experimental inoculation for smallpox and was buried in the Princeton cemetery beside his son-in-law Aaron Burr.

Evangelising in the War Zones
Frontline Fellowship is a Bible-based African Mission that has pioneered missionary work into neglected mission fields and areas resistant to the Gospel. Since 1982, Frontline missionaries have travelled hundreds of thousands of kilometres by foot, by motorbikes, by dugout canoes, trucks and aircraft to boldly proclaim the Gospel of repentance and faith in Christ to soldiers, guerrillas, resistance fighters and civilians on all sides of many conflicts in Africa.
The Founder and Director of Frontline Fellowship, Dr. Peter Hammond, has personally carried out over 140 missions in the war zones and presented over 18,000 sermons, Bible studies and lectures in 38 countries. In the course of their missionary activities some Frontline missionaries have been ambushed, come under artillery bombardment and mortar fire, been stabbed, shot at, beaten by mobs, arrested and imprisoned. The Frontline mission base and high school in Sudan repeatedly came under aerial bombardment by the government of Sudan Air Force (10 times in 18 months). Over the years, 20 people involved in Frontline Fellowship outreaches have been imprisoned in Marxist or Muslim countries. Yet, by the grace of God, every one was freed in response to persistent prayer and pressure (Luke 18:1 – 5).
Assisting Persecuted Churches
Frontline Fellowship has been in the forefront of:
Pioneering missionary work into war-ravaged Angola, Mozambique and Sudan; Researching and opening up neglected areas and restricted access areas;
