Sparkle
Video sent to me by Tanya of Piggy Sue Rescue after picking up Sparkle. Asking for donations for $300 to have Sparkle spayed.
Sparkles Finally Free! ❤ 🐷
Sparkle(s) (Originally named Sparkle Sky by former owner's children) is finally free after nearly 3 weeks in animal jail after being confiscated by the assweasels of Wichita Falls animal control! The city outlawed ownership of any "swine", unless you were previously a permit holder from years back, and they don't issue any new permits now. They made no allowances for small pigs like Sparkle, who are commonly kept as pets. These tyrannical overbearing rules of intrusive gooberment are intolerable. They just take pets away, without compensation, and without objectively sound reasons, and deprive the animals of being able to go back home to their families. In this case, there were children, and a dog, who were the only family and friends Sparkle had known since she was a piglet - where she slept curled up next to her best friend, a pit bull. For nearly 3 weeks, she's been confined to a small holding cage more appropriate to a beagle or cat, and without anyone she knows. The photos of her at the pound with her head down were heartbreaking. Granted, the former owner wasn't that great and surrendered Sparkle without much fight, I guess because she didn't have the money to get her pig out of impound (she did bail her pit bull out but not Sparkle). We did have something lined up to help the owner to get Sparkle out of the pound and placed temporarily outside city limits until she could work something out and be able to take Sparkle back, or find a new home for her. But, her former owner blew us off, after a couple of days of work I did helping her to arrange options. After she failed to call the next day and didn't answer my texts until it was almost too late to get Sparkle out of the pound before the Thanksgiving weekend, I resolved that I would still help Sparkle, but that I would no longer assist this owner in getting her back, because, obviously, her priorities weren't straight and this wasn't important enough to her. That's when I began recruiting the help of others, including pig rescues. And after hearing that many were full and had no room for Sparkle, we finally found one who did have room. Sparkle is now, as of this afternoon, on her way to Piggy Sue Rescue near McKinney, Tx. and onto new adventures, and hopefully a better home.
I love you, Sparkle, and I never even got to meet you. Maybe, one day. Live long and be happy, 'lil piggy ❤ 🐷

A Skunk Visits
This is what I consider a "resident" skunk, because he visits all the time for food, and I've been very close to him. A couple of nights ago, I was walking across the porch to go out, and before I had reached the motion activated security light, I saw a small dark shadow move right underneath me. The security light then came on, and I saw it was the resident skunk visitor on the porch, trying to get into a bag of turtle food. I was, literally, not figuratively, within a foot, as in 12 inches of him. He raised his tail but he did not spray or stamp his feet. I talked to him calmly and welcomed him, and he lowered his tail and I let him go about his way. Because he's passed very close to me before and knows my voice, he did not panic, although I would have stepped on him with the very next step. He just trusted that I wouldn't hurt him. I put food out for him and he came back shortly after and ate it. ❤

Reuniting Lost Baby Squirrel With His Mom ❤
A baby squirrel falls from its nest and is picked up by a dog, who carries it over to his owners. The mother squirrel was chasing the dog to get her baby back, but she was too scared to approach the people :( The finders of the baby were given my information by a neighbor who had also called me for a baby squirrel issue last year. After a remote video examination, I sent them an audio file recording of a baby squirrel crying and asked them to put the baby in a box near the tree, with a Bluetooth speaker near the box, then play this recording after they moved away to make the mother feel more safe. The mother squirrel appeared immediately to reclaim her baby ^_^
The baby had no apparent injuries from the dog, so it was safe to return it to its mother. If the baby is a cat's mouth though, even if you do not see puncture wounds, you should assume there are puncture wounds, and have the baby treated immediately by a rehabilitator with enrofloxacin. Bacteria from the mouth of a cat can kill babies and small animals in 24-48hrs, and their teeth marks are almost impossible to locate amongst fur. Always find a wildlife rehabilitator to examine the baby before it is returned to mom and do not attempt this method if you are not sure of how the baby ended up on the ground or what kind of animal may have had contact with it. Use this recording, played from a bluetooth remote speaker near the babies for best results. https://rumble.com/vpidw4-crying-baby-squirrels-mp3.html

All my wildlife encounters are safe (for me), and meant for the education of all, with a view toward appreciation for wildlife, and without unfounded fears. But, I don't recommend that you sneak up on foraging skunks, because your results may vary. 😄

🐇 Nesting Wild Baby Bunnies ❤
I check in recently on two baby bunnies nesting in a concerned resident's backyard and monitor their progress. Unfortunately, two of their siblings didn't make it, after being found and attacked by the home owner's terrier. But measures were taken to protect the surviving babies and make sure their mother was coming back to feed them. Their eyes opened a few days later, and they left the nest about a week after the incident.

😄 See A Farm Goose (Toulouse) Who FLIES With Her Family ❤
Hillary is a domesticated Toulouse goose. For several years she lived every day at a pond, at the city park on the river. But, last year she decided to have a family with a wild Canada goose. She was always so sad when the babies, who are half Canada goose, learned to fly at about 4-5 months old, and would fly away with the flock and leave her here. 😢 At first, her mate would stay here with her, but eventually, even he began flying away with the rest of the Canada geese to spend the night elsewhere. When they would take off, Hillary ran along the ground after them, wings outstretched, and she would cry and cry so sadly as they disappeared over the horizon. Sometimes they would be gone for several days at a time. Hillary was so depressed and not interesting in eating or being social with anyone when she was left behind. She would just sit by the shore and wait for them, scanning the sky and calling at any passing geese, hoping they might be her family. Hillary didn't yet know that she could fly. She'd never had to. Her breed of goose is used to living on farms, and have a heavier build, and they usually don't fly at all. But, Hillary got tired of being lonely and missing her babies! So, one day, she decided to try to fly, and she discovered that she could! ❤ Now, Hillary flies all around the river, between the city park, this private park, and other locations with her family, and she is very happy. 🙂
Last Spring (2020), she had a total of 4 babies, but one was just weeks old when it was reported stolen by children at the city park, and is presumed dead. A second one disappeared that Winter, several months after reaching flying age, and has not been seen in almost a year. This year, she hatched a total of 6 babies, and all 6 made it and are flying with her today. Her two surviving 1-year-olds from last year are still with her today too, and they helped to protect their younger siblings this year. In total, they are a family of 10, and Hillary now has her own little flock all to herself. Two years ago, she only had two other goose friends that had lived with her at the park for several years after being dumped there. Now she has a great big family of her own ❤
In the first seconds of the video, after "C'mon Hillary" and before "Come here girl", as they fly over you can hear her call back to me a single time, to let me know she's coming. Her call is different than the familiar honking of the Canada geese in the background.

🦎 Hand-Feeding Jupiter, Baby Bearded Dragon ❤
Little baby Jupiter has been here for about the past 3 weeks in rehab for several care related issues. Here, I demonstrate some hand feeding to him of various easily digestible items, which he is very eager to take - small pieces of fresh blueberry, small pieces of turnip greens, and sweet potato baby food that has Critical Care feeding formula and some spirulina supplement mixed in, given through a small (30 unit) syringe. The syringe is too small to aspirate him and he is still too young to bite down hard enough to damage his teeth. An older dragon you would not want biting down on something like this, because they're too strong and may break a tooth, but this is the easiest way to give Jupiter his meds.
Contrary to what pet stores and reptile breeders tell the public, these little Bearded Dragons are very fragile as babies, and ARE NOT for beginners. Most baby dragons will not see their first or second year, because they are often kept by novice reptile keepers who do not learn their proper care before they are killed by husbandry mistakes. For this reason, I do not recommend baby Bearded Dragons like this one to child or novice reptile keepers. They are too fragile and easily killed by little mistakes.

😲😲 B-17 Bomber "Texas Raiders" Flies Over My House!
Quite the surprise treat when I heard the approaching rumblings of a multi-radial engine plane, and rushed outside just in time to see that it was a B-17 flying right overhead! It was about 1500ft or so, and you could really feel the vibrations of those 4 9-cylinder engines. 😲 ❤ This isn't something most people would get to see first hand in their lifetimes unless you were at an airshow. There are only a handful of these things still flying in the entire world.
UPDATE 11/12/22 - Texas Raiders destroyed in midair collision at Dallas airshow yesterday. 😢 I almost went to this show yesterday, because Dallas isn't that far away. I have touched this plane many times when I was a kid and looked over every inch of it when they left it open to public display. I've seen it flying at airshows across Texas, from Houston to Abilene to Wichita Falls for about 40 years. Starting in 1984, my grandfather took us in the RV to the Wings Over Houston airshow nearly every year for the next decade. She was the B-17 that always re-enacted the bomber trying to land on only one gear extended during the Pearl Harbor battle re-enactment. Nearly 20 years ago, I started seeing her again regularly at the airshows at Sheppard AFB held every couple of years. It became so commonplace and expected to see her at the airshows, that I stopped taking photos and video, but I always took the time to look, touch, imagine, and marvel at how she survived this long and was still flying and sounded so wonderful with those rumbling engines. She came on tour for rides here a year ago, and she flew right over my house in several low passes over the city, which I recorded on one pass, after being caught off guard the first time. That video link in comments. After watching that video again, I cried, as if she were a living, breathing creature. Because to those of us who love airplanes and have spent our lives around them...she was.
It seems strangely prophetic now...that she gave me the chance to go get my camera again for another pass. After being a fixture since my childhood, and some of the fondest memories of shared experiences with my late grandfather, also a WWII veteran, because it would be the last time I ever saw her. 💔
6 killed, 2 irreplaceable birds destroyed.
Rest In Peace

😲 Long Lost Buddy Returns! ❤
Buddy, a Canada Goose whom I rehabilitated a little over a year ago, soon went missing after he was released, and I presumed him dead.
For a long time afterward when I would come here, my heart hurt that he was so friendly and went through so much, and I thought he was now dead after all my efforts. But it gave me great joy to learn that he is still alive and that he's now back! It was quite a shock to see him again after being missing for so long.

🐇 Training A Food Aggressive Bunny ❤
First uploaded Apr 26, 2015 on my retired YT channel.
This is Oreos, who was a female New Zealand bunny that I rescued when she was unwanted. She was purchased by people who had brats for grandchildren, and who foolishly bought them any living thing that might satisfy the little brats. It's always a stupid idea to buy a living animal to placate a child. The lucky ones may end up in a rescue. But most aren't that lucky and end up dying of neglect. Oreos came to the rescue not having been loved enough to have learned socialization, so, she needed much time to work with her before she could have ever become a candidate for adoption to someone else. But that never happened. Oreos was only with the rescue a couple of years before she developed a health issue that took her life. She is still missed, and is remembered for being just a bunny who deserved love, and better than she was given in the years in her first home.

⛔ Why You Don't Feed Live Prey to Your Snake❗❌How to Transition a Ball Python off Live Prey
There are a number of reasons why you should not feed your snake live prey. Besides being cruel to the prey animal, it's very dangerous for the snake to be confined in a small gladiator Colosseum with a rodent, to fight to the death. One well-placed bite from a rodent that bites back during the struggle could render your pet snake blind, or even kill it. And rodents often hug the walls of a terrarium looking for an exit. If your snake strikes at a fast moving rodent and misses, or strikes to hard and goes beyond the rodent and into the glass or wall of the terrarium, your snake could break its jaw. I have seen all of these injuries before, and they sometimes lead to death of a pet snake. What I'm going to teach you in this video is how to transition of finicky eating Ball Python from live prey, onto frozen/thawed rodents. I will also explain to you why it is not necessary to move your snake to a different place to feed it. These techniques may also work for other snakes with their more common preferred prey scents if you're having trouble with them. Ball Pythons are notorious for being difficult eaters when first acquired, because their natural prey in Africa is often not fancy domesticated rats or mice, but often birds, or a little Gerbil like rodent called a Jerboa. Since those aren't available in every corner pet store, you can use the scent from a very close relative that Ball Pythons do seem to take interest in - Gerbils.

Feral Parakeet Living Wild in Texas (3rd Year) ❤
Good news for my little Blue Boy feral parakeet! 🙂 He's still alive and going strong out here in the Texas summer 100+F heat, and after surviving even the Winter-zilla arctic storm where temps locally dropped to -7F and were at or below zero for 3 nights! Other bigger and more cold adapted birds like owls, mallard ducks, pigeons, and doves died - some of them right on my porch - but this little boy emerged after the snow melted and was back at my feeder again after going missing for a while and leaving me lamenting that he did not survive. But, he survives his 3rd summer in Texas, and going into his 3rd winter this year!

They are certainly welcome, but I was immediately afraid for my little Mediterranean House Geckos which lives on the outside of the house and come around that window too. 🐢 Adorable Baby Red Eared Slider Turtle Just Hatched ❤
Watch him hatching today, 8/31/21! A baby RES turtle from a rescued egg 🙂 He was incubated right next to two Ornate Box Turtle eggs, which hatched just 2 days ago. I had forgotten that one of the eggs was a Red Eared Slider, and I was expecting another Box Turtle! 😄

😲 Baby Turtle Seen Moving Inside Egg! 🐢
Candling a Box Turtle egg that has been incubating in a small plastic ware tub filled with dampened perlite, sitting on a cabinet shelf, and a 60 watt flood lamp mounted nearby for indirect heat. 2 of his siblings have already hatched 2 days ago. No special measures were taken to incubate them. Temp and humidity have not been maintained consistently, and I only have been making sure the eggs don't get colder than room temp, and that the perlite doesn't get too dry. I've hatched all kinds of reptiles in the past doing little more for them than putting them in a bowl or tub with perlite and putting them in a warmish room. They hatch for me at high rates all the time this way. I've found it unnecessary to be obsessive about keeping up with maintaining a certain temperature or humidity. They don't have such consistency in nature, so I don't see the need to obsess with incubation settings, when it comes to reptiles.
