40% Larger Grille on the New 7er!? Where has this new design language come from? Something we intend to explore, and laugh about today! Hey guys, welcome back to RBR, we’ve done some in depth #BMW reviews this year with the M5 Competition and M2 Comp and the 8 Series at the start of the year. But one we really wanted to tackle was the new #7series, and I want to start that by addressing the Elephant in the room... No not you Dumbo, get lost, I’m talking about that grille! It’s grown some 40% and The BMW fandom is in uproar, all the keyboard warriors are out, we just don’t get it! I bet you’ve all seen the huge grille meme in this video at some point by now, yes things are out of control. This is a Bold and significant step for BMW design, and it’s one that is carrying through on to other cars. And I don’t think it’s one that’s come out of nowhere: so we will go back in time to the last Era BMW truly had a stately and luxurious looking Limousine, like the 1936 BMW 326, BMW’s first four door saloon. It’s this era of car that these new models perhaps link to, and we can’t ignore how all major luxury sedans over time have had big intimidating grilles, like BMW owned Rolls Royce, and the main competitor S Class, and even the A8 has grown. It’s what we, the customer, believe is a symbol of luxury. The new car also has slender lights, and upright front facia give the car a presence you won’t soon forget. Of course this same look is also on their flagship luxury SUV the X7, where it leaves a similarly lasting impression. We will explore this mid life facelift, which is one of the most extensive in recent car manufacturer history! After that, a look inside the class leading High Tech interior, and the especially luxurious rear seat comfort package!! So we will also explore this on the road being chauffeured. 53 AMG Sounding Loud!! Here’s the first AMG of the new GLE family!! Our first look at the Coupé GLE too on the channel, we get to experience the #GLE53 on the Transfagarasan Highway in Romania! Made famous by the Top gear Romanian Roadtrip Special, it’s a road like no other!! This is the new GLE 53 4matic+, as we’ve tested in the CLS and E it’s a part hybrid in-line 6 turbo. But this time we have it linked to a proper AMG performance exhaust for the 53 cars! The car looks like a proper AMG too, with the #AMG panamericana grille previously only reserved full fat AMGs like the new G63, now the GLE Coupé looks like a dead ringer for a future 63 version! The car is the usual 53 output of in line 6 petrol engine with 435BHP 520nm giving a 0-60 of 5.3 seconds. We also have a fully variable power in the AMG 4matic+ all wheel drive system and between that and the 9-speed gear box is your hybrid power: the EQ Boost starter generator adding + 22hp and 250nm. We will also explore the new AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL air suspension, based on AMG Ride control+, as well as the key areas where the 53 differs from the standard car. AMG’s FLAGSHIP Beast has arrived! From Factory to the UK, we saw the car built live at Sindelfingen on the last video when I signed the torque tube, now the car finally arrives in the UK for delivery! The performance versions of the AMG GT family started off with the most extreme car, the track only customer racing #AMG GT3. With lightweight construction, 585 BHP, an impressive Nürburgring lap time, and the traction button from that GT3 car. Then AMG made the AMG GT4, also a track only customer racing car, this time ironically based on the GTR. And now taking what they have learnt in both their GT 3 and GT 4 cars, and incorporated it into the GT R: the GT R Pro, a 750 unit limited numbers car! The Pro has the same 585BHP but it’s enhancements come from motorsport in 4 different areas: Suspension, Aerodynamics, lightweight construction, AND the unique front and rear Looks! Carbon package 1 and 2 are standard, as well as the racing stripes from the GT 4 car. All this allows a Ring time of 7:04 which is a mega improvement! Mini AMG GT 4 Door?! CLA 45 S is stunning, and here’s the full review. Thank you Dr Strange for the lift! ;) Just came back from unveiling my GT63S 4 door at MB World, and now it’s time to review its little brother here in Madrid! The CLA 45S now one of the most amazing looking AMGs, literally looking like an #AMG GT 4 door mini! But that wasn’t always the case, previously the original CLA 45 was a bit of an odd proposition. It wasn’t particularly better looking than the A45, if anything it couldn’t touch that car, reduced rear room and head height sealed its gate for me. It always looked the poor mans C63. Now the new car is a different proposition as far as design goes, it’s been designed as a small brother to the GT4 door rather than looking like an A45 with a boot. And it immediately ups the desirability of the #CLA45S, and it really needs to in order to justify its existence. Compared to its predecessor it’s technically a completely new animal too. Previous car was a 4 pot turbo with 360BHP, front biased haldex style 4x4 system and a 7 speed, much like today’s CLA35. The new one is totally different. It’s got 4matic+ with drift mode like the GT 4 door, but executed in a different way! The engine is also all new, it’s still 4 cylinder single twin scroll Turbo, but the engine has been completely remade for better cooling and to deliver more horsepower, torque and a higher rpm. It’s rotate 180 degrees compared to last engine to be both more aerodynamic and help with cooling, and much learning form the Gt 2 door and 4 door has come into the development of this engine. WORLD EXCLUSIVE!! AMG GT 2 Door Production line at Mercedes Benz’s legendary Sindelfingen Factory!! For the first time ever cameras are allowed behind closed doors at the Stuttgart based Daimler factory for Mercedes Benz. The #WirSindelfingen Factory is responsible for building the flagships of Mercedes Benz, such as the New S-Class sedan, cabriolet and Coupé, the new E-Class and the CLS. However it has also been used for Mercedes AMG’s top dog cars, the SLS AMG originally and now the entirety of the AMG GT family!! That includes the 4 Door GT on a separate line, maybe we will see this another day! ;) You’ll also get to see my own AMG GT R Pro, the new limited edition track focused version, on the production line and having it’s “marriage”; what is the marriage you ask? It’s when the “Chassis” of the car joins with the “Drive Train” - a bond one hopes will never break, hence terming it the automotive marriage! The #AMGGT Production line is unique for Mercedes cars, as it only makes use of one robot in the assembly of the car! The majority is done by teams of people, to maintain the highest standards for AMG’s top of the line car. The production line hence looks more still than usual, with no robots as you would see at S class production, but teams of skilled workers. Reminds me of the AMG engine production in Affalterbach! Here’s an exclusive look at the future of both Mercedes Benz and Maybach design to follow in cars like the future 2020 Mercedes S Class, S Class Maybach, GLS Maybach and perhaps even new Maybach Coupé flagships!! Debuted at the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, The Vision 6 Vehicles were designed by Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener to display “ultimate luxury” - the name used to describe the Maybach arm of Mercedes, and his sensual purity design language. THE POCKET ROCKET IS BACK!! Welcome back to RBR guys and today we are finally driving the New A45 S on the road!! It’s been an awesome build up on RBR with first the drifting preview in Sweden and then engine production in affalterbach leading to now the road review of what AMG are calling the super sports cars of the compact class! Back in 2013 AMG did the unprecedented and entered the hotly contested hot hatch market, with a small 2 cylinder turbo 350ish BHP all wheel drive A45. Despite initial fears, the original proved itself one of the most accessible, fun and loud AMGs. Quickly it became a leader in the compact class and the horsepower wars insued with Audi’s RS3, and BMW sitting pretty on their untouchable M2. AMG proved that this mix of small turbo engine with their signature big engine character, and flagship styling was super attractive to customers! The facelift built upon this raising power and adding a diff to the front. In the new gen A Class, a much more grown up car inside and out, the first AMG to come was of course the A35. Essentially nigh identical to the previous a45 in its format, with a 4 pot turbo, haldex all wheel drive system bused to the front, the same brakes and thus a shared driving feel. BUT where does that leave the A45S? Well it’s a totally new beast in every single regard - It’s got a new M139 4 cylinder engine with 421 BHP in the S, A New 8 speed gearbox, more rigidity, new suspension, Unique body size BUT most importantly: a new 4 wheel drive 4matic+ system completely different to before! The GT 4 Door concept was first ever RBR video, please don’t look for it, I sound horrific lol. But I knew even then that I had to have the production version, and I’m so pleased the GT63S has the same proportions as the concept. For myself and many other AMG addicts the creation of this car has been a long time coming. The first AMG to be built from the ground up was the SLS AMG, with no MB as a base car. It’s an iconic car, and really showed us what AMG can create when not handcuffed by AMG. I had two of these beauties, but sold them because I just had my first kid and needed space for the little man. Downgraded on both occasions to a C63 and CLS63 respectively but they never had the full AMG experience of the SLS! The SLS was followed by the AMG GT S, another from ground up AMG car, even better than it’s predecessor. Culmination in the AMG GT R and Pro it’s a force to be reckoned with: but us AMG Addicts wanted the same raw AMG experience but in a practical 5 or 4 seater car. Enter the beast that changed the game, it’s AMGs in house super saloon loosely based on the E63 Wagon. The power is insane at 635 BHP, 900nm of torque and a 0-60 in a staggering 3.2 seconds!! The exterior design is just like the two door, so similar to the AMG GT R, just with 4 doors. And inside, well I’ll show you shortly just how similar it is. The KING of Sports cars!! The motoring icon, the Porsche 911! Let’s explore the new one in a way only we can at RBR. Going 55 years strong, the 911 is back with a whole new 8th generation Model, internally designated 992. And this is the Carrera S RWD model! But as always, a New 911 is an evolution of what came before, on the face of it hard to appreciate, so to really truly comprehend this 55 year journey that culminates in the 992, we’re going to do what only RBR can, and tell the Story of 911 with our signature VFX style! We’re going to start from the VW type 1 Beetle (but I don’t attribute the 911 to the beetle, rather set the record straight) and explore every generation, from 901, 964, 993, 996, 997, 991 all before arriving at the 992. Is the design blink and you’ll miss it? It won’t be once I’ve shown you the previous generations, and then give you a close look at the the body and design! With the 992, there is no Narrow body RWD body like the 991 had, now they all share the same wide body. And the footprint and wheelbase of that body is identical to the 991 4WD body, so rest assured it has not grown in length, height or such metrics in any meaningful way. The only real difference, and it’s one you notice immediately in person, is the wider front end where the PASM chassis widened by 45mm! Notice the larger wheels also, Staggered wheels for first time on non-GT, biggest set up to 20-21. And the rear is very different but again familiar, with a Big Rear wing, now with multiple stages of height rather than just up/down, reacts more appropriately based on your speed and driving. Overall, the Entire outer skin bar front and rear impact zones, is Aluminium! Heck the whole car’s use of steel has reduced to only 30%! Though similar looking, the tech and inner workings have been heavily tweaked. The turbocharged flat-six engine has been reworked - it’s now more powerful producing 444BHP, despite the horrid GPF gas particle filter being added in! There is a Completely new 8-speed dual-clutch PDK too, Brakes have been increased in size on the rear, and feel improved. And the Electronic Steering has been modified to be more direct in feel, and now you can get rear wheel steering in the standard cars! Finally, this car has a road Wetness detector, in the front arches there lies sound sensors, which pick up if the road is wet, then asking you if you’d like to try the new wet mode. Oh and the interior, all new, super modern and a very very nice place to be. But how will the GPF effect sound? Is the increase of width a hinderance? Is the new interior 911 enough?! And most of all: does it handle like a 911!? THE S Class of SUVs?! The brand new GLS 580 4matic full review is here guys! Featuring the world’s first V8 with ISG hybrid boost, and some amazing suspension trucks, let’s explore the whole new 2019 / 2020 GLS. The original was first produced in 2006 under the name GL, at a similar time to the Audi Q7, and was based on a stretched and widened ML platform, rather than the traditional 7 seater body of frame. Second gen was renamed to GLS, to link it to S Class family, just as the ML was renamed to GLE. Though despite it’s comfort, it still remained technologically inferior to even the C Class, let alone an S Class. And now comes the third generation, without the shackles and limitations of being a facelift, it intends to live up to the S Class in it’s name. We will compare the new GLS vs Old GLS and GL, so we can check out the new design as well as the new length and width. Also check some links to S Class, like the LED design and some tech! The interior also needs looking to with a new design, and the MBUX awesome interior system. Speaking of which, the GLS as moved on in tech too and like the New GLE, is based on a 48V electrical system. That allows for use of more clever technology, such as the clever E-active suspension which is according to MB the only system to control the spring and dampening independently on each wheel, plus a host of performance and comfort benefits we’ll discuss on the drive. Oh, and it’ll dance for you too. J/K it’s not a dance, but to help the car escape when stuck off road. The suspension is epic BUT more crucially for this GLS 580 and the 450, it gives the car a performance hike! Just as we saw in the GLE 450 and AMG GLE53, this 580 has an electric starter alternator in-between it’s V8 engine and gearbox, giving the base power of 489BHP and 500nm an EQ Boost of 22BHP and 250NM respectively!! Here’s the NEW FACELIFT Audi R8 V10 Performance coupe review!! Let’s do todays video while paying tribute to a couple of heroes: One of the silver screen, and one the road. Tony Stark and the Audi R8 have been inextricably linked from that first fateful union exactly 11 years ago in May, 2008! With the original Iconic and gorgeous silver R8 4.2 V8, Tony drove in Iron Man 1. The R8 really took the motoring world by storm. An affordable mid engine sports car was a rarity, and an Audi Supercar unheard of. It caught the supercar big boys sleeping, and quickly became one of those cars that every one, car fan/Audi fan/ or non car fans, wanted to own. Attainable, super cool and properly capable!! We can’t deny however, that much of that allure came from the introduction with Tony. Not unlike much of Aston’s success thanks to the aura of Bond, the R8 has always been Stark’s car. It continued with Iron Man 2, as he drove the R8 V10 Spyder, Iron Man 3 with the rarest of them all, the R8 Etron, and even the new R8 V10 Plusin Avengers 2. And the final Audi appearance was sadly not this R8, which would have been poetic, but even Bond is driving a Rapide E next... nothing is sacred. But i get it, “Iron Man drives an etron” comments already flooded my instagram comments on the R8. Audi’s plan is clearly working, they said themselves how the alignment with Stark back in 2008 gave the brand the ability to reshape it’s place in the market setting a tone for the future Giving Iron Man an E-tron GT in his last appearance, is a smart move, plus electric is as I said closer to the iron man suit than combustion! The future? An RWS still could come, i hope it does because that was my favourite R8. But beyond that, rumours of a V6 twin turbo were around, but currently there are no plans to continue the model. Maybe it’s a good thing, and the supercar bows out like Iron Man on a high note... Or maybe it’ll return in full electric supercar form one day. And now the facelift, taking much from the R8 GT3 and GT4 cars, Audi Sport saying it’s the closest car to motor sporting sharing 60% of components. Even some Lamborghini elements that I’m not sure about… we will explore it all and then take out this V10 for a spin to celebrate it! The Fastest SUV in the World!! (On the ring!) The Facelift of one of the most BRUTAL AMG models, the new GLC63S!! Last time I reviewed the GLC63S coupé, we found it to be an al weather C63 on stilts, sports car performance in an SUV and a true game changer: but there were some areas to improve. Because the last GLC came so late in the C Class’s life, it was left as the poor cousin without the facelift digital screens and a dated interior. NOW it’s jumped ahead of the C Class, with MBUX, touchpad, digital screens and a more varied exterior design. And to start let’s talk about the exterior updates, especially the new front end and somewhat controversial rear lights!! That wider grille and softer front nose. I’ll also show you the standard version in the GLC 300d. And even compare the look of the pre facelift and the coupe vs the SUV. Coupé looks better still to my eyes but I’m obsessed with coupes, I think it’s the best looking SUV four in the world, especially compared to that new X4M. In terms of the AMGs all models come with electronic slippy diff now, and while power is the same 510BHP, the car has been updated with the C63/GT63 AMG Dynamics software to better vary the handling based on driving mode: we will explore this on the road. The changes have allowed this car to retake the Nürburgring record away from Stelvio Quadrifoglio, making this the fastest SUV on the ring in the world!! Now when this came out we were all expecting the updated GLC43 too, and loads of you asked me on Instagram too as we’d love to have one on the channel. GONE is rear wheel drive! The new 1er is FWD/AWD only! Welcome back to RBR and today we explore the F40 new gen 1 Series available only in 5 door and on BMW’s FAAR front wheel drive architecture!! I just came from from a secret compound inside BMW HQ Munich, where this the new 1 series was all too slowly being unwrapped for reveal this week, so I figured we’d steal the flagship M135i Xdrive to give you guys a proper first look!! And in BMW’s own words, it’s a dawn of a new Era. Don’t mistake this new 1 Series as an evolution of a past model, BMW says this is instead a revolution! Electric HAS a MERCEDES!! Hey guys and welcome back to RBR! We’re in Oslo in Norway to test out the first car of Mercede’s all electric range, the EQC 400 4matic! MB might prefer if you to forget about their first full electric car, the B Class electric drive; drove this thing once... 80% capacity had less range than my AMG GT R on reserve fuel in race mode. Oh dear!! They also are committed to testing hydrogen fuel cars, with the GLC F-Cell testing the less alienating technology. But their real interest, as with the rest of the market, is in EVs. And so came the “EQ” brand of Mercedes Benz!! Think of it as a play on the word “IQ”, EQ means electric intelligence, and it really is! Yet we have spoken about EQ before haven’t we? Thats because EQ has sub brands: EQ Boost - Supported combustion engines, like the 53 AMGs EQ Power - Hybrid Power! AMG Project ONE and rumoured AMG GT 73 EQ - fully electric, like this EQC And Mercedes are investing heavily into it, 10billion euros worth of investment into the model line, and a billion in battery production. And the first is an SUV, because that’s what everyone apparently wants! So while it looks like a regular SUV to you or me, MB insist it’s in between an SUV and and SUV coupe, so a crossover. We’ll explore this claim now as we go over design. Underneath, there’s no engine, but rather batteries, these feed Compact electric drive trains, one at each axle - and it behaves like All wheel drive, hence the name 4matic, and it gives you 408BHP, 765nm and a 0-60 of 5.1 secs. But the question is can the EQC stand out as a Mercedes Benz, vs the similar E Tron, Jag i-pace and the crazy Tesla Model X? Or is it more of the same, but a different badge? The Origin story of AMG!! Featured alongside the New C63 S Wagon, we will answer the question “What makes an AMG”! And since it’s endgame week I’ll use the infinity stones to travel back in time with you! We start in the year 1965, when Mercedes Benz just made the decision to discontinue all motorsport activities. And for two engineers, Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher how this crushing blow led to a special moment in 1967!! When AMG racing engine development is Founded. A meaning Aufrecht Melcher Grossaspach. Fast forward to 1971 - and small AMG team managed to buy a used 300 SEL used for racing, and modified it further bringing the 6.6 V8 up to 6.8, widening the arches, lightening the weight and thus the Red Pig was born! The mighty AMG saloon won champion in its class and won second place overall, only because it needed to stop and refuel constantly. The Legend of the Red Pig was cemented, leading to the expansion of the small company! The best 4 door coupe money can buy?! Hey guys and welcome back to RBR and today is about the New Mercedes CLA! And it’s a car that I think has not only moved on from it’s less than inspiring predecessor, but looking at the reaction its gotten since release, I think it’s going to overshadow the high end CLS. Of course Mercedes are the creators of the 4 door coupe niche, which started with the Vision CLS in 2003. The so called banana Mercedes was hailed as one of the most stylish cars ever made, and the original now sits pretty much as a design icon. It was more exciting than E class outside and in, and this continued with the next model. Though not as elegant, it was going for more aggressive. And that Ponton rear wheel arch suited it much more than the E Class in my opinion. Wasn’t a huge fan of the lipstick rear lights but lovely car none the less. Around this time the compact sector underwent a rebirth with the THEN new A Class, and along side that came their second 4 door coupe model, the CLA. And sales were way beyond expectations, with 70% of CLA buyers being from other brands, and it was a pivotal point in Mercedes starting to “kill it” as the kids would say. BUT to me this car always looked under designed from day dot and back then the CLS reigned as the prettiest MB 4 door coupe. Fast forward to the present: and the story is a different one. The new CLS has a controversial design, with the front being a copy paste of the new A Class. Enter, this new CLA. Previewed in the concept A Aesthetics, which really reminds me in spirit of the original Vision CLS. This car has a completely unique body, it is NOT an A Sedan with sloped roof, the entire body is unique to CLA. We will explore just how different it is to it’s predecessor too. But will it be different enough to A Class, and to the A Sedan? And how could I be right about it being the best 4 door coupe you can have right now? Next Level before Black Series!! This is the more extreme AMG GT R, the PRO! Not that anyone one ever came away from a the normal R thinking it’s slow, but AMG are so engrossed in motorsport that they cant help but upgrade. The performance versions of the GT family really started off with the most extreme car, the track only customer racing AMG GT3. Of course I’ll show you this, with it’s naturally aspirated M159 V8 from the days of the C63 and SLS, including black series. AMG have been racing with this car for years now, and during this time took what they learnt and applied it to the standard AMG GT, created the AMG GT R, aka the beast of the green hell. With lightweight construction, 585 BHP, an impressive Nürburgring lap time, and the naughty traction buttton from that GT3 car it’s one of the most extreme cars on the road. Then AMG made the AMG GT4, also a track only customer racing car, this time ironically based on the GTR. And now taking what they have learnt in both their GT 3 and GT 4 cars, and incorporated it into the GT R: the GT R Pro, a 750 unit limited numbers car!! Happy to say I’m getting one soon too!! AMG categorise the enhancements from motorsport in 4 areas: Suspension, Aerodynamics, lightweight construction, AND Looks! So we’re going to take a look at all the new aero providing the 100kg extra downforce, the weight saving to reduce the 25kg off the original 1645kg kerb weight and a look at every external detail!! Including a look at some Surprising links like the 190E EVO 2 Cosworth! Spec wise you’ll notice the carbon package 1 and 2 are standard too. And with this spec you get the light green stripes reminiscent of the GT4 and GT3 racing car. BUT for those of us who’d prefer to spec differently, you can get the full choice of GT R paint colours, every other spec comes with Graphite stripes. All those changes allowed AMG to shaved a huge 10 seconds off their original Ring lap time, driven by my buddy Maro Engel, for a time of 7:04 which is a commendable improvement. But does it differ enough to the GT R in standard form? Is it louder, or the same with the addition of the particle OPF filter? What’s it like on track?! The Mad Mayor of M Town: the M5 Competition!! Hey guys and welcome back to RBR!! And here is the M review you’ve been waiting for! Now i have reviewed the Standard M5, and found it to be the best Grand Touring super saloon around. But sooner than expected this new Competition has landed, and RBR as a channel has evolved since too, and now we love going into the how and why of a car!! So let’s get some perspective on this automotive icon by checking out the history of M Division, specifically with regards to the 5er M. We’ll look all the way from the first car by BMW Motorsport the M1, to the first taste M535i in the E12 model, and even the catalyst from Mercedes via it’s 190E 2.3 16v Cosworth. Then the first with the E28 M5, the larger E34, the untouchable E39 M5, the Black Sheep E60 With its V10, the turbo charged F10, and finally the F90. Yet now so soon comes the competition, BMW M have clearly stated when introducing this car, that now every high performance version of their M cars will get a standalone bonkers version. Be it comp, cs, GTS or otherwise. So let’s also see what you need to do to an M5, to make it a “Competition” for the reasonable £6500 upgrade cost. First AMG of the new GLE family!! And that is the GLE63... wait no, GLE53..! It’s that AMG grill it’s so confusing!! This is the new GLE 53 4matic+, and rather look at it in Geneva, in typical RBR style we are borrowing it! This GLE AMG is a part hybrid in-line 6 turbo, just like the E53 and CLS53 we tested recently! We will look briefly at the engine but I know what you’re thinking and you’re right, this looks like the 63 car! This AMG panamericana grille till now used to be reserved only for full 63 AMGs like the new G63, or for the AMG GT family cars. And then we had entry level AMG cars like the 35, 43 and 53 cars all with the twin blade classic grille. Two faces to differentiate two power levels. Now that’s all changed and the GLE53 has the Panamericana grille! I will explore the reasoning behind this as well as what it means for the future of AMG design. As mentioned, it’s the usual 53 flavour of in line 6 petrol engine with 435 520nm, and fully variable power in the AMG 4matic+ all wheel drive system and between that and the 9-speed gear box is your hybrid power: the EQ Boost starter generator adding + 22hp and 250nm. The GLE53 0-60 is only 5.3 seconds. That system also charges the 48v system of the car, a system that allows more current and thus clever new systems. Mainly the new AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL air suspension, based on AMG Ride control+. But best of all, GLE 53 also gets the AMG performance exhaust system! But will the GLE63S be different enough? What else has changed vs the GLE 450?
