I'm taking a different commute route this morning up to Cypress, TX, and meeting for breakfast at a new (old) spot. Skip around with the chapter markers below.
The full-length, unedited video is on my new channel: https://youtu.be/0gD_Ek_bZbo . I'll be posting more content to that channel soon.
Subscribe to the @QuasiRAW channel if you'd like to show support for the unedited, long-format content. Those won't be edited for length or content. I will likely publish those videos at 1080P instead of 4K to reduce encode and upload times. I plan to upload many older (historical) videos to that channel in the near future.

Beware of Christian Brothers Automotive: Exposing Dishonest Scammers on Camera!
My trusty old 2003 Ford F150 4.6L V8 work truck finally hit a snag yesterday. It started leaking coolant from one of the heater hoses near the back of the engine. So, I took it to Christian Brothers Automotive in Katy, TX, for an advertised $79.95 cooling system diagnosis. Everything went sideways from there.
Offending service location (hall of shame):
Christian Brothers Automotive
500 Westgreen Blvd, Katy, TX 77450
They sat on the truck all day and cost me 6+ hours of my life for absolutely ZERO reward... actually, less than zero... I paid them for my lost time! They never called me to advise of the status or the repair estimate. So, I called in the late afternoon to get a status update, and that's when they hit me with a $4000 repair estimate! Are you f***ing kidding me?! I said, "Thanks, but no... I'll keep my sphincter intact today!"
I agreed to pay their inflated diagnostic fee (which was supposed to be $79.95 instead of $149.95), and that's when the tech advised me that the current total was $350! For what?! He said the extra fees were for coolant, a cooling system flush, and an oil change. I drove to their shop and begrudgingly agreed to pay the bail fees for my truck. Of course, I gave them an earful for the BS and their ridiculously horrible customer service.
I drove home and noticed it was still leaking OLD coolant on my driveway... wait, what?! They did NOTHING to the truck except waste my time, give me a bloated estimate, and fraudulently charge me for services they didn't perform! No cooling system flush, no fresh antifreeze, and NO OIL CHANGE!
I immediately called the shop and advised them to void my invoice minus their BS diagnostic fee. The manager agreed to refund everything except the $79.95 as quoted initially. I told him that everything (including dashcam footage) was recorded on video to illustrate their blatant misconduct and fraud in this case. Unsurprisingly, he called me back about 3 minues later and offered to cancel the entire transaction.
The real question is: how many other customers have they blatantly ripped-off and STOLEN money from without rendering services?! I firmly believe that the only reason they agreed to refund me is because I had everything on camera! That is inexcusable and criminal behavior, in my opinion. 😒👎

360VIDEO: Scooter Crash on Gravel at 35 MPH!
IMPORTANT NOTES: This is a 360° video, so it's best viewed on a mobile device. Be sure to manually select the highest resolution available because YouTube may default to a lower quality experience. You can look around in real-time by tilting your phone or dragging your finger around on the screen to change the viewpoint... even while paused!
Standard 4K version: https://youtu.be/hfuUZxYjI4Y
360° 5.6K version: https://youtu.be/70yNh-poxE8
This clip is from Day 8 of the Cannonball when I ate gravel at 35 MPH! It was a slight downhill grade nearing a corner. A concrete wash at the bottom of the hill with loose, chunky gravel didn't agree with my scooter's front tire!
This 2015 Honda PCX150 has CBS (combined braking system), so it's impossible NOT to use the front brake. I preloaded the front brake lever in case I needed to use it, but I hadn't applied any pressure yet. I was only braking with one finger on the REAR brake, and that was enough to apply braking force to the FRONT brake as well... not good. CBS without ABS on the front wheel is a Bad Idea.
@zamdrang Tyler was following behind me when I munched gravel. He was quick to jump off of his Honda ADV150 and help me lift my scooter off of my legs. He assumed I would have been knocked out by the head bounce, but it wasn't so bad. This wasn't my first rodeo... I've been down hundreds of times in the dirt, so I've learned how to take a fall. 🤣
The damage to the scooter was primarily cosmetic, with several broken body panels and slightly bent handlebars. My right leg and knee took a beating, but (surprisingly) my left hand didn't get hamburgered even though I WASN'T wearing my glove... yet another Bad Idea. Two weeks later, the swelling has gone down, but my right thigh still hurts and is still yellow and brown until the bruising dissipates.
However, I don't consider this a motorcycle "accident" in the traditional sense. If you've been riding long enough, going down on dirt or gravel is inevitable on any motorcycle/scooter. The mistake here was taking a scooter with narrow street tires on gravel in the first place. At least I captured the fail on multiple cameras, and even in 360°! 🤣👍

Scooter Cannonball Run 2023 // Scooter vs Deer in Los Alamos, NM
This clip was one of several close calls I had during the 2023 Scooter Cannonball Run. I nearly collected a big buck while riding down the mountain into Los Alamos, NM, on Day 3 of the Cannonball.
I had a CVT belt failure earlier in the day, which put me severely behind schedule and forced me to ride into the night hours in the mountains. I bypassed several bonus points on sketchy gravel/dirt roads, but that further delayed my ride into Los Alamos. This downhill run from over 9200 feet elevation was harrowing in the dark.
It was a steep downhill run, and I was modulating my brakes front/rear and on/off to prevent overheating them. I had been reminding myself to slow down for several miles. I rounded a blind bend at 40+ mph, and the deer was standing in the middle of the oncoming lane. He waited until the last second to dart across my path.
I grabbed the brakes even harder and slowed to about 30 mph as we missed each other by less than a foot! Needless to say, I spent the next several miles trying to extricate the seat vinyl from my puckered sphincter! 🤣👍

Houston 5G Face-Off: Verizon vs Google Fi
I'm testing two identical Google Pixel 7a phones on different 5G wireless carriers in Houston, TX. Let's see which 5G network is better: Verizon or Google Fi? Let's toss T-Mobile into the ring as well to see how they perform!
I will be taking these phones on my cross-country trip for the Scooter Cannonball Run in just a few days, and I'll be using them to stream data and video while I'm on the road. Hopefully, if one network is unavailable, the other will still have a signal. Google Fi supposedly switches between the T-Mobile and US Cellular GSM networks, so it should select the best signal between those two.
We'll see how they work across the vast stretches of rural America! 😉👍
