Linda Sarsour Defends Calling Jihad Against Trump
Palestinian-American activist Linda Sarsour defended herself after coming under fire for a speech she recently gave, where she called on Muslims to engage in a jihad against the Trump administration--who she referred to as fascists and white supremacists.
According to Sarsour, she was simply asking that people peacefully protest President Donald Trump and his administration. However, she caught backlash for using the term 'jihad', which has come to be associated with acts of violence committed by terrorist organizations. She also argued that the term "jihad" doesn't have any violent implications and insisted that people were overreacting to her speech.
While many came to Linda Sarsour's defense on social media and other outlets, she also faced heavy criticism. In the wake of her remark, she engaged in a Twitter argument with CNN correspondent Jake Tapper, who Sarsour blasted as having joined the ranks of the alt-right because he was critical of her online.

Comey Testimony Offers Ammo for Both Sides
James Comey's latest testimony to congressional leaders on Capitol Hill represented a smorgasbord of information that gives ammo to both sides of the political aisle. From his dispute of President Trumps version of events surrounding meetings between the two, to his revelation that then attorney general Loretta Lynch pressured him into describing the bureau's work into the Hillary Clinton server as other than an investigation, Comey had both political parties in his crosshairs.
Ultimately, though, regardless of your takeaways from his testimony, certain truths held fast. That American adversaries such as Russia are continuing efforts to infringe upon our democracy, and that political personalities continue to put their own careers ahead of the good of the country.
Perhaps the most troubling takeaway is that the rule of law appears to apply differently to those in power.

Steve Bannon Slams Gary Cohn For Going Against Trump
Former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon sat down with 60 Minutes for his first extensive interview following his exit from the White House. Reiterating his resolve to stand behind President Donald Trump, Bannon said that he will act as the president's "wing man" on the outside. He also shot down any rumors that he will break from President Trump's policies and vision for the United States.
Bannon returned to media powerhouse Breitbart to assume his role as an executive, and referred to himself as a "street fighter." When asked about his unconditional support for President Trump, Bannon pushed back at criticism over the president's reaction to the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, and defended Trump's overall message. He also blasted white supremacists as having no place in society or politics and lashed out against those in the Trump administration who disagree with the president--calling out Gary Cohn by name--saying they have an obligation to resign.

Soldiers Deserve Proper Punishment for Bergdahl
As proceedings were underway this summer in the case against U.S. Army soldier, and accused traitor, Bowe Bergdahl, his fate hangs in the balance.
While there is very little dispute among military experts, particularly those familiar with the circumstances surrounding his capture, that Bergdahl deserted his unit along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, the challenge the military faces now is what his punishment will be.
But regardless of the sentencing, the length it has taken to punish and hold him accountable is an added disservice to the men and women of the United States military. Especially those who were charged with finding Bergdahl's whereabouts.
Though we as Americans will never leave any man behind, now that this man is back it is imperative that the government does not waste anymore time in bringing justice for the oath that he abandoned.

Recent Attacks Show Anything Can be A Weapon
Recent attacks and attempts in Europe at the hands of terrorists identifying as ISIS sympathizers shows that terrorists will use anything as weapons to execute violence. While the assailants in Barcelona ultimately had other means in mind given they also had plans to use chemical weapons, it was a common every day street vehicle that ultimately resulted in the casualties of innocent people. And two instances in Brussels and the United Kingdom whereby attempts were made with knives underscore that the threat is among us everywhere, and in the hands of a terrorist anything can become a weapon.

Protests In St. Louis Over Cop's Acquittal Turn Violent
Protests in St. Louis turned violent following the acquittal of ex-cop Jason Shockley, who was found not guilty of murdering a black man in 2011.
Multiple police officers were injured after protesters hurled bricks at them. Many of the protesters also attempted to block police from traveling the roads, confronted police officers in order to provoke responses, and even broke two windows at the home of the mayor and smeared red paint on the home. Shockley, who has since left the St. Louis police force, expressed his concern for first responders following his acquittal.
The protests became so out of control that the St. Louis police department issued a statement declaring that they were no longer considered to be peaceful. Businesses were vandalized and over 100 people were arrested in the days following the verdict. Riot police had to use pepper spray and tear gas to restore order and disperse violent crowds.
