I'd be lying if I said there was nothing cool or charming about this. It's kind of a visual novel wrapped around a match three game. That's not exactly right, but it's the best description I can come up with. I know beyond doubt that the art will annoy or even turn some off, but I found it charming in it's own way for the most part. The music was the real star of the show here. I'd have liked to be able to move the "spirits" vertically as well, but outside of that, it's alright. It did make my antivirus throw a bit of a hissy fit, but that's not really it's fault, I don't think. No, no it is not... I should point out this was a demo I found on Steam, but the game has since released as a free game. Not an altogether bad little puzzler game that's kind of cute. You control two ducklings at the same time and both of them will move together in whatever direction you choose. The point is to use the environment to inhibit the movement of one or the other duckling to get them both safely to the goal so you can save their stupid backsides from certain doom in the next area. It's got some jazz that's not all together terrible and the price is right. Kids might enjoy it because it's kind of cute and fun, but they may get frustrated too. Because it was, when I was talking to myself. It's a cute little 3D platformer with decent music (that kind of reminds me of, The Sore Feet Song, by Ally Ker. I might have gotten the name wrong). I mean, was the greatest most engrossing game I've ever played? No, but I didn't expect it to be. Let me put it this way, as a 40 year old man that has mild aversion to 3D platformers, I didn't hate it. It was cute and I could have found worse ways to spend an hour (a playthrough will realistically take you 30 to 45 min, I played a bit over an hour because of not recording) For kids of a certain age, I'm sure this will be a real treat and it's free. Now for kids also of a certain but different age, this is a no go non starter. They are obliged to hate it because it's cute and they see themselves above it. So, I was just sitting here talking to myself playing games, which I do anyway... The one thing I regret here is not letting the opening play out again. Because the comic book style art they used was fantastic, but this game doesn't let you speed up sections of it, it's either sit and watch the whole thing in it's own time, or skip it. Please bear with me as I figure out where to set the mic to, and with the poor quality mic itself. My goal if for each one to get a bit better. But that's all that's different. We are still going in blind, you are seeing my fist moments with the game. I'm still not totally sure how to describe this game. There is a story, and it seems like there will be a fair amount of it. The core of the game though is building your own Tarot Deck, like not just making a homemade Tarot Deck, but literally creating a totally new thing, with new cards that have their own meanings. You reading fortunes seems like it will be one of the driving forces for this game that's going to dictate the story and it's direction, maybe? But building and using the deck will be a large part of the game, either way. And yes, you literally get to make the cards. like you get to design them and everything. Both that aspect and the story hold some appeal to me and have a lot of potential. Beyond that, its got just gorgeous pixel art. And I was really digging the music as well. The demo just dropped on June 15th, 2023. The full game doesn't have a solid release date, just 2023 so sometime this year barring delay causing complications. I don't think it will be for everyone. But You've got this video to give you some idea what it's like, and you've got the demo you can find on Steam (and possibly other places, Itch and GameJolt are good places to find indie game demos) so you have the tools to figure that out and decide for yourself.
