Hidden High Tech: Super-Technologies for the Mobility of Tomorrow | Free Documentary
Mobility. A concept that humans have pondered over for centuries if not millennia. While experts keep coming up with the same questions: How can we transport more people and freight? How do we make mobility as safe as possible? And most of all: how do we make it environmentally friendly? About 8 billion people around the world, want to enjoy mobility. About 4 billion people fly on planes each year. And about 1 billion cars drive on our roads. Cities are growing, and traffic increasing. And environmental pollution is getting out of control. New environmental movements, like “Fridays for Future” and activists like Greta Thunberg denounce the state of affairs. There is little time to act. Climate change is man-made and almost impossible to stop.
At the same time, digitalization radically changes entire industries and society as a whole. And that opens new opportunities. We meet experts who rethink mobility and make it possible. They use 3D metal printing and create coatings for components used in cars, airplanes, and space travel. Our film enters the world of “hidden high-tech” – super technologies intended to make mobility and our cities safer and cleaner. Around the world, companies work on making manufacturing more efficient and environmentally friendly. We are visiting a Swiss company called Oerlikon, which develops and makes products for the aerospace and automotive industries, e.g. with 3D printing in industrial standard - high tech which is hidden under the engine cover.

World's Worst Disasters in the Air | Desperate Hours | Free Documentary
In this episode of Desperate Hours, we slip the surly bonds of earth to encounter disasters in the air. There have been accidents in the air ever since the time of the Wright brothers and all the improvements in aviation technology since then have lessened but by no means eliminated the dangers of flying. We hope, however, that you are not frantically canceling your next flight after watching this episode. The chance of getting into or anywhere near a plane crash is very low and air travel is considered one of the safest forms of transport. Many more people die in automobile accidents every year, admittedly with the difference that they don’t usually die hundreds at a time. With that sobering thought, we say farewell and fly safely.

What caused the Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster? | What Went Wrong | Free Documentary
On January 28, 1986 NASA lost seven astronauts when a booster engine failed, causing the Shuttle
Challenger broke apart just 73 seconds after launch. But what exactly went wrong during the launch and in the preparations for the big day that led to such a catastrophic failure? Engineers at Morton Thiokol had warned managers not to launch as the “O” rings that sealed off the segments of the boosters might not expand as planned, but they were ignored. Worse still, this problem had been noticed from the very beginning of the Shuttle problem but was covered up to give NASA the commercial edge in sending satellites into space. Seven astronauts died and the Shuttle program was suspended.
