In this video I have uploaded Eric Laithwaite's 1974 lecture titled Looking Glass House. This is the first of his series of Christmas Lectures at the Royal Institution. Note that after I published Eric's Lecture 4, aka the "controversial" gyroscopes lecture, several years go, I received many comments asking to upload more of his lectures. So that is what I am going to start doing. This first lecture Eric explores the wonderful world of optics, mirrors, reflections, left vs right handedness, palindromes, and Eric points out that matter and "antimatter" are distinguished just by directions of spin. In #AntiGravity Part 2, I have uploaded the famous experiment by Professor of Heavy Electrical Engineering at Imperial College in 1983 in which he literally lifts and twirls a very heavy 40 lb spinning wheel as if it were an extremely lightweight feather, and with just ONE HAND! This is quite the remarkable experiment and which has to this day been overlooked and blatantly covered up by the mainstream “science” establishment and even large “science” YouTube Channels such as Vsauce and Veritasium. Eric Laithwaite was in his 60s during this gravity (and reality) defying experiment and has been fighting against the Academic Establishment Industrial Complex for his whole career to have them wake up to the fact that outdated “Laws” of Physics need some updating regarding objects in rotation such as spinning wheels and gyroscopes which behave as if their mass is “displaced”. In this experiment, Eric shows that when the wheel is not spinning, it is very to difficult lift, especially for an elderly man such as himself. But when he gets the wheel spinning to about 2,500 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) using just a normal Household Drill, he then can literally toss it around effortlessly over his head and then catch it also effortlessly. Eric describes how all he does is “guide” the gyro wheel (somehow) in the direction the wheel has already “decided” to go (i.e. in the direction of its “precession”), and then the wheel moves in that direction but with NO CENTRIPETAL FORCE! He can also catch it effortless because it has NO ANGULAR MOMENTUM! This is LITERALLY magic…. Or just HIDDEN PHYSICS! In this video I go over how to manually calculate powers 10^0.1, 10^0.2, 10^0.3, ..., 10^0.9 by hand by first using the approximation 10^0.3 = 2. Calculating such powers by hand directly in the same way for multiplication and long division is not possible and requires the use of logarithms or Taylor series. Nonetheless, we can manually approximate such powers by realizing that 10^0.03 is approximately equal to 2 (with an error of -0.24%). This means we can approximate multiples of 10^0.03 by multiplying by 2. For example 10^0.06 is approximately equal to 4. Note that the error becomes double because we multiplied by 2. To get powers such as 10^0.1, we can multiply 10^(0.03 * 7) = 10^2.1 ≈ 2^7 = 128. Then we can divide both sides by 10^2 = 100 to get an approximation 10^0.1 ≈ 1.28. Applying the correction of 7*0.24% we obtain 10^0.1 ≈ 1.2585 which is very close to the actual number 1.2589. In this video I introduce cylinders and quadric surfaces and then do an example graphing out a parabolic cylinder. I first recap on the equation of a plane and equation of a sphere in 3D. A cylinder is defined as a 3D surface that consists of all lines (called rulings) that are parallel to a given line and pass through a given plane. I illustrate this by sketching the graph of the parabolic cylinder z = x^2. Since the y-variable is missing, this means that the parabola on the xz-plane can be extended along the y-axis to infinity. Note that the 2D parabolas are called traces, which are curves of intersection of the surfaces with planes parallel to the coordinate planes. Traces make it easier to sketch the surface, and in some cases are necessary to do so. In #MESExperiments 29 I go further into the GyroTop magnetic spinning top from Experiment 28, and this time provide an asymmetric magnetic field. I do this by adding additional magnets to one side of the magnetic base, all of which are in attraction to the spinning top. This setup makes the magnetic attraction stronger on one side, and as predicted from Experiment 29, the GyroTop once again moves opposite of the magnetic field. Thus it doesn't matter if the magnetic field is symmetrical or asymmetrical, the principle is the same: spinning tops want to balance opposite of the opposing force. In this video, I perform 2 sets of experiments, one of them uses just 1 additional magnet while the second experiment uses 2 additional magnets to provide an even stronger asymmetric magnetic field. In this video I go over the main COVID-19 "virus" isolation paper and look at the results section titled "Detection and Isolation of a Novel Coronavirus". While the title of the section suggests a "new virus" was discovered, the actual methodology used to come to this conclusion is lacking, to say the least. The usual virology methodology was used, which was take RNA from a handful of patients, assume it's from a "virus", and then use genetic sequencing technology to somehow obtain 20,000 short RNA sequences and compare with known "viral sequences" in an online database. Then PCR tests were performed with high cycle threshold values to detect common sequences shared among a group of "beta-coronaviruses". Growing cell cultures on human airway cells, monkey kidney cells, and liver cancer cells were assumed to be the same as "isolating" the "virus". The cell cultures were then observed for "cytopathic effects" and compared with a "mock infected" cell culture (with no detail given of this "mock infected" culture), and the images provided of the cytopathic effects were unclear, and insignificant in my opinion. Finally, the electron micrographs were provided of the heavily processed cell cultures and cell culture supernatants, supposedly showing the "virus" particles along with their "solar corona" spikes. Again, to me this is not strong evidence of "viruses", nor even of what exactly these particles are or what they do or can do, if anything. In #MESExperiments 34 I have uploaded a short clip of Eric Laithwaite from 1968 demonstrating some very interesting properties of permanent magnets that are difficult to explain with the simple magnetic pole model. The first experiment is the basic two "like-poles" repel each other demonstration. Afterwards, he places an unmagnetized steel piece between the magnets and they now attract to it instead of repel each other. The next experiment he places a second unmagnetized steel piece and this time the magnets repel each other while clinging on to one steel piece each. In the last two experiments, Eric places an unmagnetized steel plate and an unmagnetized steel ball next to the magnetic pole. The magnet attracts the ball, but when he pulls out the steel plate, it pulls the ball with it and away from the magnet! Finally, he places a piece of cardboard between the ball and magnet, and shows that when moving the plate near it, the ball jumps towards the plate. How can the unmagnetized steel plate attract the ball more than the magnet? When there is no magnet present, the steel plate doesn't attract the ball at all. These are truly mind-boggling experiments! In this video I go over more advanced tests for convergence in order to determine the convergence or divergence of the Binomial Series at the endpoints. In particular, I first derive Kummer’s Test, which is a generalization of both the Ratio Test, covered in my earlier video, and Raabe’s Test, which I cover in this video. I also show that Raabe’s Test is essentially a test that compares series to the p-series, which I had covered before. In my earlier video, I had covered the Binomial Series and showed using the Ratio Test that the radius of convergence was less than 1 but the test was inconclusive at the endpoints. This is where I use Raabe’s Test to overcome the shortcomings of the Ratio Test and show that at the endpoints, the Binomial Series may converge or diverge depending on the value of k. This is a pretty epic and extensive proof video, and likely far more thorough than any other proof found online, so make sure to watch it! Note that Kummer’s Test was first obtained by German mathematician Ernst Eduard Kummer, while Raabe’s Test was obtained by Swiss mathematician Joseph Ludwig Raabe, and both during the mid-1800s. Also note, that I obtained the proofs for Kummer’s Test and Raabe’s Test from a paper by Sarah Fix from Whitman College, USA. I also discuss their formulas and what happens when the variables change. All the shown graphs are symmetric about the z-axis but the equations can be modified to make it symmetric about a different axis. In this video I go over how a gyrocompass works, my own unique explanation of gyroscopic precession, and several corrections to my earlier videos. A gyrocompass is just a spinning wheel with 2 degrees of freedom and a mechanism to induce precession as the Earth rotates, thus allowing it to detect True North. Compare this with a gyroscope that has 3 degrees of freedom. Gyroscopes have 2 main properties: rigidity in space and precession, which is the change of direction of its spin axis. In mainstream physics, precession is explained by the right hand rule: curl your right hand along the direction of the gyro spin with thumb pointing outwards, do the same for the applied torque, and the direction of precession follows the vector sum of the directions of the thumbs. In MES physics, I explain precession as the gyro spin and applied torques want to line up with each other, and that precession itself is a torque that can cause the gyro to rise upwards against gravity. Gyrocompasses require an additional precession mechanism because the Earth rotates very slowly, so friction in the bearings typically can overcome precession due to Earth's rotation alone. One mechanism of inducing precession is by attaching a mercury tube to the gyro such that as the gyro lifts the tube due to its rigidity in space, the liquid mercury flows to the opposite side. This induces precession such that the gyro will spin opposite of Earth's rotation. Another mechanism is by simply adding a weight to the bottom of the gyrocompass: as the gyro lifts the weight, there is a downwards force by the weight that induces precession such that the gyrocompass aligns in the same direction as Earth's rotation. Further in the video, I clarify some errors I made in my previous videos. The gyrocompass explanation image I showed previously was actually correct and my edits were wrong. The compensator weights in the WW2 gyrocompass video I went over were used to balance the weight of the gyro and not to induce precession; it too used a mercury tube setup which they referred to as a "mercury ballistic". In this video I go over Question 6 of the Laboratory Project: Taylor Polynomials and this time look at an example on how to apply Taylor Polynomials to approximate the function f(x) = cos(x) centered at x = a = 0. This example involves determining the 8th degree polynomial and comparing it graphically with the 2nd, 4th, and 6th degree approximations. The first step in solving for the 8th degree Taylor Approximation is to take the derivatives up to the 8th derivative and solve each one for when x = a = 0. Doing so we can clearly see a pattern since the derivatives of cos(x) involve alternating sin(x) and cos(x) functions but with varying positive or negative signs. Since sin(0) = 0, I show that the odd terms, given the first term is considered even or zero, all vanish thus greatly simplifying the final formula. The 2nd, 4th, and 6th Taylor Approximations are all simply determined from the 8th degree Taylor Approximation since each successive iteration just adds a new term to the formula. Graphing the approximations all together with the function f(x) = cos(x) and centered about x = a = 0, I show that the approximations gets better and better for each successive iteration especially as the interval gets larger and larger. In this video I show that a sequence is convergent, by the Monotonic Sequence Theorem, if it is positive and decreasing for all values of n. This would mean that the sequence is bounded because the largest value would be the initial term and the smallest value is a number greater than 0. Thus we can apply the Monotonic Sequence Theorem and the sequence is convergent. We can see this visually since the terms of the sequence will approach a limit L greater than 0. Thus, the answer to our question is True. In this video I go over equations of lines and planes in 3D coordinates. This section is part of my calculus book chapter titled Vectors and the Geometry of Space. In 2D coordinates, a line can be described by a point on the line and its slope or direction. Similarly, a line in 3D coordinates can be described by a point on the line and a vector parallel to it which thus serves as the direction. A plane in 3D coordinates is described by a point on the plane and a vector perpendicular to the plane. The plane equation utilizes the fact that the dot product of two perpendicular vectors is equal to zero. Furthermore, the cross product is also used in determining the perpendicular vector, termed a normal vector. In #MESExperiments 20 I’ve uploaded one of the least known experiments by the late great Eric Laithwaite and it is among the clearest demonstrations of gyroscopic weight loss through forced precession. This experiment involves placing a gyro wheel with a shaft that is loosely connected onto a vertical rod which allows the gyro and shaft setup to freely move upwards if the gyro “chooses” to. And choosing to rise upwards is exactly what it does as Eric forces the precession with an external looped structure which he pushes against the end of the shaft. As the gyro torques upwards and thus the center of mass increases so too does the entire gyro + shaft setup rise; and in fact rise completely airborne for a brief moment. Thus, had there been a weight scale underneath, it would measure a zero weight reading as it was airborne; in other words, the gyro “loses weight” during forced precession, or more accurately, as the center of mass increases and without expected downwards reaction (which otherwise would increase the weight scale reading akin to a person pushing off the ground when jumping upwards). This experiment is taken from the BBC “Heretics” series referenced below. Interestingly it is not available on YouTube, and BBC doesn’t allow anyone to upload it there either; thus raising the question of why the tax payer funded BBC, to the tune of about $5+ billion per year, places a cover on science. In #MESExperiments 37 I demonstrate some very interesting observations of permanent magnets and unmagnetized steel when placed on a large magnet. Small magnets tend to move to the center of the magnet but when lifted they suddenly move to the edge. Small unmagnetized steel balls and screws tend to move to the edge of the magnet both when placed and lifted. However, a larger magnetic ball and large unmagnetized steel bolt both tend to move to the center both when placed and lifted. I also show a cylinder magnet wants to stand vertically in the center but moves to edge when lifted. When placed flat and pushed towards the center, it can launch away! Finally I show that a tiny magnet behaves completely opposite of a tiny unmagnetized steel screw, both in position and angle direction. The tiny screw balances near the center at and an angle pointing away from center and gradually flattens out when moved to the edge. The tiny magnet balances near the edge at an angle towards the center and gradually flattens out when moved to the center. These are all some very interesting and puzzling experiments which I hope will help us unravel the mystery that is electromagnetism! In #AntiGravity Part 5, I have uploaded another one of Eric Laithwaite’s absolutely magical experiments regarding spinning wheels and gyroscopes! In this video I over a quick recap on the binomial series, its radius of convergence, and its binomial coefficients. A binomial series is an infinite series for the function (1 + x)^k where k is any real number and the series is convergent when the absolute value of x is less than 1. The terms of the series consist of the binomial coefficients multiplied by x^n. The binomial coefficients, often pronounced as "k choose n", have the formula k! / (n! (k - n)!, and represent the number of was to choose n elements from a set of k. For example, 4 choose 2 = 6 ways to choose 2 numbers from a set of 4 numbers: {1, 2}, {1,3}, {1,4}, {2,3}, {2,4}, and {3,4}. In this video I show that a divergent series also means that the absolute value of the series is divergent. This follows from my earlier theorem that an absolutely convergent series is also convergent. Thus if the opposite were true, a divergent series would mean that it would be absolutely convergent, and hence convergent, which is a contradiction! Thus, the answer to the question is True, and a divergent series is also absolutely divergent. Note that I made a typo in the video, the absolute value sign should be inside the summation series. Nonetheless, I solved it as if was inside. In this video I have uploaded Eric Laithwaite's 1974 lecture titled It's My Own Invention. This is the sixth of his series of Christmas Lectures at the Royal Institution, and which are in Eric's typical Alice in Wonderland theme. In this sixth lecture, Eric explores the topic of "invention" as it relates to engineering, and in particular to his specialty of electromagnetism and his later passion on gyroscopes. He explains that the inventive mind needs both large amounts of curiosity but also courage to explore the unknown, especially if that unknown runs counter to the already established institutions. Eric also describes his encounter with an amateur inventor by the name Alexander Charles Jones whom had invented a gyroscopic device that can "propel itself outside of its own dimension", aka inertial propulsion. This moment was the start of Eric Laithwaite's research into gyroscopes! Interestingly, at the 52:50 mark of the video Eric mentions the now famous "Google Number" as being more than all the particles in the universe. Note that a Google is a 10^100. Finally, Eric ends this sixth and last lecture of his 1974 Christmas Lectures series with a large precessing gyroscope hanging from the roof, and quoting from the late Michael Faraday: "All this is a dream, nothing is too wonderful to be true." In this video I uploaded the 4th song titled "Melted Vehicles" from the 1109 music album by Keor Meteor. This song focuses on the many toasted cars, trucks, and vehicles in general that underwent unconventional damage on 9/11. Many vehicles were melted, warped, distorted, burnt out, and even levitated. In this video I go over the discussion section of the main paper on COVID-19 "virus" isolation. The discussion section outlines the authors' alleged claims of a "new virus" and the follow-ups suggested for supposedly tracking and stopping the "spread" of this alleged "virus" and its associated alleged disease. The new "virus" is claimed to have been identified via whole-genome sequencing, direct PCR, and cell cultures. The genome was then submitted to the GISAID and compared with other "coronaviruses" before claiming it is separate from the other previously known "viruses". The electron microscope images of blurry particles were assumed to be this new "virus". Specific sequences from the alleged "new virus genome" were then selected and submitted to the WHO for "detecting" this new "virus" in the general population; which the authors state 830 people in China have already tested "positive" as of the paper's publishing. The authors admit their paper doesn't fulfill Koch's postulates and instead claim their study only "implicates" the "new virus" in the Wuhan "outbreak". The paper highlights additional experiments to confirm this claim of a "disease-causing new virus". These experiments include antigen detection in the lung tissue of patients, antibody detection in the blood of patients, and animal (monkey) experiments to demonstrate that the "virus" actually causes disease. Finally the paper concludes with the now infamous psychological mind control operation cliché of the alleged importance to "prevent, control, and stop the spread of 2019-nCoV"... In this video I show that if the limit as n approaches infinity of the sequence a_n approaches L than so does the limit as n approaches infinity of the sequence a_(n+1). This is because if n approaches infinity, then so does n + 1 (since infinity + 1 is still infinity). Thus the limits are the same and the question is true.
