WCW went all-in with Bash at the Beach 1998, and it paid off in money but not with show quality. Even matches like Eddie Guerrero vs. Chavo Guerrero and Chris Jericho vs. a returning Rey Mysterio weren't all that great, dragged down by the overall show. Goldberg literally won the WCW World Title from Hollywood Hogan 6 days before this show, in the Georgia Dome, and he put that title on the line against Curt Hennig. That match felt like such an after thought and didn't last long, making Hennig look like a loser. Meanwhile, Hogan was still in the main event slot. He teamed with NBA megastar, Dennis Rodman, to take on Diamond Dallas Page and another NBA megastar, Karl Malone. There was tons of bad blood, controversy, and publicity leading into this one...and it wasn't great. All in all, this show was pretty bad, but WCW was still raking in the cash.
