20220210 - Liberty Minute
I'm Peter Serefine and this is the Liberty Minute for Thursday, day 697 of 15 days to flatten the curve.
$6 Trillion has been spent by the federal government in the name of the Wuhan Flu. Where did that money come from?
Well, the government just printed it. Modern monetary theory doesn't require a gold standard or any physical assets to back the money.
So, if the government can just print money whenever they need more, why do we still have to pay taxes? Couldn't the government just print more?
Wait? It doesn't work like that? Why not? Is that because modern monetary theory is a pile of bullshit? Or because a government without taxation has no power?

The US war on drugs started in 1971 and has cost American taxpayers over $1 trillion. So, how's it going?
Last year there were 100,000 overdose deaths in the US. That is a 30% increase over the previous year.
That doesn't sound good, but I'm sure Resident Biden has a plan.
So, what is the Biden administration doing?
The southern border is completely flooded with fentanyl which was responsible for 2 out of 3 overdose deaths last year.
Safe injection sites, because nothing says "drugs are bad" quite like giving a safe space to break the law
Free crack pipes because, well, equity
The 50-year war on drugs is just like every other federal program, wasteful and not effective.

The Mexican government is suing US firearms manufacturers. The lawsuit claims that the manufacturers and their marketing are somehow complicit in guns smuggled into Mexico and arming the cartels.
The surprise of this story is that 14 attorneys general are backing the lawsuit. 14 Democrat attorneys general.
Manufacturers are not responsible for the misuse of their products.
Boeing was not responsible for September 11th.
Toyota is not to blame if someone drives a Prius into a Starbucks.
Duct tape does not cause kidnapping.
Fertilizer doesn't just spontaneously become a bomb.
PEOPLE commit crimes. Inanimate objects and their manufacturers are not the cause. People and the society we have created bear all of the blame.

The world appears to be preparing for war in Ukraine. I have conflicting feelings about the situation.
I would like to say it is none of our business, it isn't our problem, and the United States should not be the world's police, but it isn't that simple.
Back when the USSR fell Ukraine was left with a huge stockpile of nuclear weapons. In fact, Ukraine had the third biggest arsenal in the world at the time.
Ukraine gave up those nuclear weapons because of the promise that the United States and other nations would protect them if needed.
So we have the choice of being liars on the world stage or doing the uncomfortable thing that we promised to do.

I'm Peter Serefine and this is the Liberty Minute for Friday, day 691 of 15 days to flatten the curve.
For years I have told people to run for office when they complain about the government but never did it myself.
I finally took my advice. When my town did not elect a Pennsylvania State Constable last November I looked into how a vacancy is filled.
I gathered a few signatures on a petition and filed it with the county court, and yesterday I was appointed and sworn in as the Pennsylvania State Constable for my town.
No campaign. No election. I was never a candidate for office.
If you want to make a difference, find out what elected offices are vacant where you live. Then find out how someone can be appointed to fill the vacancy.

House Homeland Security Committee members were told yesterday that right-wing violent extremism represents the greatest terrorism threat to the country.
The evidence presented? A study that tracked terrorism plots and attacks in the US from January 1994 to May 2020—the month left-wing violence began, dozens were killed, and cities burned for months across the United States.
Isn't it funny that the report stopped there? It almost looks like the reporting was cut short on purpose. If I didn't know better I might think that the current administration is trying to shove the George Floyd riots down the Orwellian memory hole. I'm sure that is just a coincidence.

Yesterday I reported that there are 2.1 million civilian federal employees. A critic pointed out that the Office of Personnel Management only reports 1.8 million not including the Postal Service. So I was wrong, add the 630,000 postal employees and there are actually 2.4 million civilian federal employees, but wait, there's more.
Add the 1.4 million active-duty military and 4.1 million contractors and the total comes to 7.9 million salaries your tax dollars pay.
That is one federal employee for every 42 people in the private sector.
Maybe that is why the Convention of States just got the 17th state to join their movement.

I'm Peter Serefine and this is the Liberty Minute for Tuesday, day 688 of 15 days to flatten the curve.
Our federal government is a leviathan and I blame the last 100 years of the progressive movement.
In 1913, when Woodrow Wilson took office, the federal government had about 400 civilian employees for a population of 97 million. That is one federal employee per 250,000 citizens.
Today we have a population of 330 million and 2.1 million civilian federal employees. That is one federal employee per 157 citizens.
In that time period, our population grew by 340% but our government grew by 5250%.
I guess we know why the federal government is inserting itself into everything we do, why government spending is completely unchecked, and why We The People must regain control.

Hundreds of people have been arrested for the January 6th Capitol breach.
The US Capitol building is very secure. There are two sets of doors with magnetic locks. The first set of doors must be closed before the second set can be opened.
The outer doors of the Capitol rotunda are 17 feet tall, cast in bronze, and weigh 20,000 pounds. If locked, it would take military-grade artillery to breach them. Once through the giant bronze doors, you come to the second set of security doors.
There was no artillery at the Capitol on January 6th. So, how did people armed with flagpoles breach this state-of-the-art security?
The only possible answer is that someone inside the Capitol let them in.

I'm Peter Serefine and this is the Liberty Minute for Friday, day 684 of 15 days to flatten the curve.
Supreme Court Justice Breyer officially announced his retirement to take effect at the summer recess of the court.
Senator Hawley warns to expect a major battle if Resident Biden appoints a woke activist.
Senator Manchin said he would support an appointee that is more progressive than himself.
Biden announced that he will appoint a black female by the end of February because that strategy worked so well with his Vice President pick.
How about we drop the woke racism and focus on qualifications instead of melanin, chromosomes, and genitals? Maybe consider the Constitution over sexual preference, Law over activism, we the people over partisanship.

I'm Peter Serefine and this is the Liberty Minute for Thursday, day 683 of 15 days to flatten the curve.
San Jose California just passed a new gun law. The new law passed city council 8-3 and requires gun owners to purchase liability insurance and pay an annual "harm reduction" fee.
So, the God-given and constitutionally guaranteed right to keep and bear arms is now taxed in San Jose. This can not stand.
The idea of a tax on a constitutionally guaranteed right has been tried before. When racists wanted to keep black people from voting they created a poll tax. Fortunately, the Constitution was amended to forbid it.
This "harm reduction" tax hurts the poor the most, exactly the people the so-called progressives claim to care about. What other God-given right will they tax next?

The Democrats' exodus of the House of Representatives continues. The 29th Democrat member of the House has announced that they will not seek reelection this year. Don't worry though, Nancy Pelosi announced yesterday that she will be running.
Once again, the federal government is getting between you and your doctor. The FDA has revoked the emergency use authorization of monoclonal antibody treatment of the Wuhan Flu. The reason given is that it doesn't help with the omicron variant.
Well, the "vaccine" doesn't prevent infection or transmission of the omicron variant either. Using the same logic, does that mean it is time to revoke the Emergency Use Authorization of the vaccine too?

Prior to the Wuhan Flu it was generally accepted that cloth masks did nothing to stop the spread of a respiratory virus.
The director of the CDC has recently admitted that cloth masks do nothing to prevent the spread of Covid.
In New York, a Judge just stuck down the governor's mask mandate in schools and public places as unconstitutional and unenforceable.
But in Virginia, teachers have decided to segregate unmasked students. There is no mandate from the governor but teachers in Virginia think they know better than the governor or the CDC. Segregation in public schools..hmm, it seems to me that the Democrats did that before.
