Lava flows have destroyed several homes following a volcanic eruption in south-west Iceland. A volcano on the Reykjanes peninsula erupted on Sunday, spilling molten rock into the town of Grindavik. The local population was evacuated. Defences built after an eruption in December were breached in places, setting houses on fire. But by Monday the flow had almost stopped. There is no danger to the rest of Iceland, officials have said.

Artificial intelligence is set to affect nearly 40% of all jobs, according to a new analysis by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). IMF's managing director Kristalina Georgieva says "in most scenarios, AI will likely worsen overall inequality". Ms Georgieva adds that policymakers should address the "troubling trend" to "prevent the technology from further stoking social tensions". The proliferation of AI has put its benefits and risks under the spotlight.

Then there is 36-year-old Goran-Liu, who has made it his mission to mediate between Chinese and Serbian businesses - and offer the best deals. China has accused the US of sending "a gravely wrong signal" to those pushing for Taiwan's independence after Saturday's election result. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken sent Taiwanese president-elect William Lai a message of congratulations following the result. Beijing called the message a violation of Washington's commitment to maintain only unofficial ties with Taiwan. Mr Lai has vowed to protect Taiwan from an increasingly aggressive China.

A rebel group in western Myanmar has said it has captured a strategic town near the Indian border from the ruling military. The town of Paletwa in Chin state is one of Myanmar's main routes to India. The Arakan Army is part of the ethnic minority rebel coalition, the Three Brotherhood Alliance, that launched coordinated attacks against Myanmar's military government last October. The rebel offensive has posed the biggest challenge to Myanmar's military government since it seized power in a coup in 2021

Ukraine's military has said it has shot down a Russian military spy plane over the Sea of Azov, in what analysts say would be a blow to Moscow's air power. Army chief Gen Valerii Zaluzhnyi said the air force had "destroyed" an A-50 long range radar detection aircraft, and an IL-22 air control centre. The A-50 detects air defences and coordinates targets for Russian jets. Russian officials said they had "no information" about the attacks, but prominent pro-war Russian commentators have said the loss of an A-50 would be significant.
