69-year-old Bob Durling is an avid cyclist, riding more than 30 miles a day. But on August 6, it was his car ride home from a Sunday cycle that was the most dangerous. Driving in his car home to get ready for church, he knew something was wrong. “All the sudden my vision kind of tunneled up, I got extremely dizzy,” Durling said. “I blacked out and that’s when my heart stopped.”

State Representative David Cook of Globe thinks the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) should "pump the brakes" on allowing 3rd party vendors to issue driver's licenses, vehicle titles and government IDs after an auditor general report revealed a lack of oversight by Arizona's Department of Motor Vehicles raised risks to public safety. The City of Phoenix has approved more than $3 million in additional funding to help outsource the testing of backlogged DNA rape kits in the city. The measure approved Monday afternoon by the city says it will allow for existing funding within the Phoenix Police Department to be reallocated to help speed up the testing of the existing backlogged kits through DNA Labs International, Marshall University, and Bode Cellmark Forensics.

A man is dead after being shot by Casa Grande police Thursday afternoon. Officials say the shooting happened around 3 p.m. near Trekell and Rodeo roads, in an area adjacent to McCartney Ranch Elementary School.

School officials and police are investigating after a gun was found in a young student’s backpack at Kyrene de la Estrella Elementary School earlier this week. According to a letter to families on Tuesday, a weapon was found in a preschooler’s backpack Monday afternoon at the school near Loop 202 South Mountain and 24th Street. The weapon was located by school staff shortly after the student arrived at the school and it was secured.
