Robert Smith CAMEO Blink 182 All Of This
Blink 182 All Of This feat. Robert Smith from The Cure
Blink 182 & The Cure Collaboration
Robert Smith from The Cure makes a cameo on "All Of This":
"We just sent it over and he did the vocal and sent it back," Delonge says. "To be honest, we weren't even sure it was going to happen because he was taking so much time with it. We were literally hours from having to turn [the masters] in to the factory when it showed up. It gave us all goose bumps to hear Robert's voice on our record, to hear his voice on another song, and to come to the realization that we actually wrote the music to it, because it sounds like a Cure song. We were jumping for joy when it was all said and done." - Delonge; Seriously, Blink 182 Is Growing Up, Washington Post (Jun 10, 2004)

Blink 182 Song Action on Madden 2004
Blink 182 Feeling This Alternate Song Title
The untitled Blink 182 album's opening track "Feeling This" was almost called "Action."
""Action" just sounded kind of dorky to us. Like we would always call it "Feeling This" and then someone at our label, I think, like wrote it as "Action" one time and sent out singles to people. And it was always supposed to be "Feeling This."" - Barker; interviews, Bobby Gorman, ThePunkSite (Dec 10, 2003)

MEANING I Miss You Blink 182 Music Video
What Does I Miss You by Blink 182 Mean?
"I Miss You" was inspired by "Love Cats" by The Cure.“I’m a really big The Cure fan, and one day I was listening to their song ‘The Lovecats,’ and I loved the idea of using a stand-up bass guitar and jazz brushes. So what we ended up doing was writing a song with all acoustic,” - Tom Delonge; This is Blink 182: Untitled, Garret Michael Carlson, Dudefluencer, Sep 13, 2019

BLINK 182 UNTITLED | 10 FUN FACTS
Fun facts about blink 182 self titled album
Did you know that Mark Hoppus of Blink 182's Grandfather wrote some of the lyrics for the one of the band's biggest albums? Or that one of the band's hit songs was inspired by The Cure? What about the alternate song title which the band thought was too dorky? Stick around and we will answer these questions and more!
1 Take Your Time
The album took an entire year to make.
Record label executives at Geffen gave the band an extensive amount of creative freedom and allowed them to to take as much time as they wanted.“Our previous records, like Enema Of The State/Take Off Your Pants And Jacket... We’d write the whole thing in two weeks, and then we would record my drums in a day, and we would record guitars, bass, and vocals over the next month. This record [Untitled], we recorded over a year’s time. We wrote a song and then recorded it, took as much time as we wanted.” - Travis Barker; This is Blink 182: Untitled, Garret Michael Carlson, Dudefluencer, Sep 13, 2019
2 Box Car Racer
Tom credits his experience working on the Box Car Racer album for helping Blink 182's untitled album.
“One of the craziest things about Box Car Racer is that it was the both greatest and the worst thing for Blink. It was obviously the reason why we made that last record, which I thought was a masterpiece, but it also caused a great division in the band. It was really hard for Mark. He thought it was really lame Travis and I went and did that, but it was a totally benign thing on my part because I only asked Travis to play drums because I didn’t want to pay for a studio drummer,” - Tom Delonge; This is Blink 182: Untitled, Garret Michael Carlson, Dudefluencer, Sep 13, 2019
3. Untitled
The album is not Self-Titled.
"It's kind of like if you have a painting that you've painted and you just can't think of a name for it. That's how we felt about our record. We felt like we couldn't think of a name to justify what just happened on that record. You know?" - Barker; interviews, Bobby Gorman, ThePunkSite (Dec 10, 2003)
"We didn’t want to label it with anything. We didn’t want to label it with a joke title that people might expect. We didn’t want to label it with some serious phrase that the whole record would have to somehow relate to. We left it untitled, so it would speak for itself.”- Tom Delonge; This is Blink 182: Untitled, Garret Michael Carlson, Dudefluencer, Sep 13, 2019
4. Tattoo Artist
The album art was created by Travis Barker's tattoo artist.
"His style, incorporated into Blink's, didn’t make us too gangster: it just gave us a bit of an edge. It was cool to feel like Blink had a dangerous side." - Barker; Can I Say (2015)
5. Makeout Party
All four music videos for songs on the album feature people kissing.
6. Grandpa's Love Letters
Some of the album's lyrics include real World War II love letters.
The chilling lyrics read by actress Joanne Whalley during the interlude which precedes "Stockholm Syndrome" actually came from real letters sent by Mark Hoppus' Grandfather to his Grandmother during World War II.
7. Robert Smith

Why Sum 41 QUIT DRINKING on Tour
Sum 41 Stops Drinking
Sum 41 Quits Alcohol
Normally people associate punk rock tours with a party animal atmosphere. However, the band stopped drinking and staying up late while on tour promoting All Killer, No Filler to record their second album.
In 2008, Stevo told MTV: "When we realized the recording time was coming up, we actually stopped partying... That made touring a whole different world... It's strange to spend the last two months on the road and go, 'Well, it looks like I'm going to bed early again, and I'll be up all day,' because, usually, you don't really have much to do until the show... So if you drink all night, you'll sleep all day until you're about to go on. And that occupies, like, 18 hours of the day. Then you only have to be up for one." - Steve Jocz, D'Angelo, Joe. "Sum 41: Testing Their Metal (Part 2)". MTV. April 8, 2008.

Speaking of which... The album cover has always reminded me of the popular John Travolta and Nicholas Cage film from the 90s.

What Does The Hell Song Mean?
"Hell Song" is about a friend of the band who caught HIV.
"It's about this girl I used to date who I've known forever. Just last Christmas she found that she was HIV positive, and it was so brutal. She doesn't sleep around. She's only had two or three boyfriends and one of them used to cheat on her all the time, and then he got it and gave it to her. It's the heaviest thing that's happened in our group of friends." - Deryck Whibley, Sum 41 Sober Up On 'Does This Look Infected?, Wiederhorn, Jon, MTV, (Nov 14, 2002)

Sum 41 Over My Head
"Better Off Dead" is not a song about being drunk or wasted...
However, it is a song about dealing with it's aftermath; "It's not about being f---ed up or drunk... It's more about the aftermath when you're hearing everything you've just done the night before, and you're like, 'Ah, f---, I'm better off dead.' I don't regret any of the things I do and I don't mind doing them, I just hate hearing about it. Ok, so hate is a strong word. But front-man Deryck Whibley has confessed that he is quite unhappy with the way the album was mixed.

Did you know that Sum 41 front-man Deryck Whibley "hates" the band's second full-length album? Or why the punk rock band made a tough decision to stop drinking while on tour? Or which song from the album is more relevant today than ever before?
1. Stevo the Zombie
Drummer Steve Jocz, is affectionately known as "Stevo" No, he's not the same Steve-O from Jackass Although we hear he is quite a character in his own right. Take the album cover for example, where he can be seen wearing the zombie mask with fake blood pouring down his face. A photograph which was created months before a title was decided upon.
The album cover has always reminded me of the popular John Travolta and Nicholas Cage film from the 90s.
2. 11th Hour Wisdom
The album's title was thought of by Deryck Whibley on a whim at the last moment. The album was almost delayed by the label until Whibley casually pitched "Does This Look Infected?" the rest of the band thought it was funny so they went with it.
3. Deryck Whibley "Hates" the Album
Ok, so hate is a strong word. But front-man Deryck Whibley has confessed that he is quite unhappy with the way the album was mixed.
"I've always, always hated the way this album sounds. I hated it in the studio and it still bothers me. The demo I made myself at home sounded better than the final mix... 4. Party Poopers
5. War in Iraq
"Still Waiting" is an anti-war song.
"“Still Waiting” was all about George W. Bush and going into Iraq and what a disaster it was gonna be. It was an anti-war, anti-Bush song... And I didn’t explain it. Meaning of Monkey Wrench by Foo FIghters
The lyrics for "Monkey Wrench" were inspired by the dissolution of Grohl's four-year marriage to ex-wife Jennifer Youngblood.
"It was a riff that turned into another riff that turned into another riff and ended up being a nice little power punk song." - Grohl, Dave Grohl's Guide To Every Song, FooArchive (Nov 24, 2011)
"'Monkey Wrench' is about living with someone and feeling like you're living in a fucking cell. A dysfunctional relationship that's bound to fail. And then I wound up getting a divorce ... " - Grohl, How To Write A Rock Anthem, Morat, Kerrang! (June 2006)

Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen
Grohl re-did the drums on "See You" to sound like a popular hit song from rock band Queen.
"It was the one song that nobody wanted to put on the record, but it's my favorite song. I think that the only reason it ended up on the record was that I re-did the drum track to make it sound like 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' by Queen." - Grohl, Dave Grohl's Guide To Every Song, FooArchive (Nov 24, 2011)

Meaning of Everlong by Foo Fighters
Lyrics to "Everlong" were inspired by Grohl's romance with Louise Post of Veruca Salt.
"That song's about a girl that I'd fallen in love with and it was basically about being connected to someone so much, that not only do you love them physically and spiritually, but when you sing along with them you harmonize perfectly" - Grohl, Dave Grohl's Guide To Every Song, FooArchive (Nov 24, 2011)

MEANING of The Colour And The Shape Foo Fighters
The Foo Fighters' second album's title was inspired by a bowling pin purchased at a thrift shop.
The band's tour manager Gil Norton was known to rummage around at thrift stores and come back with odd knick-knacks and memorabilia. At one point he purchased a bowling pin with red and white stripes because he enjoyed "the colour and the shape" of it. The band found the phrase memorable and humorous enough to use it as an album title. Complete with the British spelling of "colour" with a "u" in homage to Norton who is British.

This version has been updated to a format that was developed a few episodes later. We previously had all of the comedic mash-ups at the end of the video similar to the style of one of our favorite channels called CinemaSins. However, we decided to mix the mash-ups in throughout the 10 facts where appropriate to illustrate some of the concepts discussed in the video.
Ps... I also feel like this is one of my worst episodes. Most of the facts are rushed and there are a few places where the audio sounds funky because I made a mistake while recording my voice overs, and instead of going back to fix them, I just clipped audio togther to make it work. Maybe one day I will revisit this album and add a few things while fixing others.
The Colour And The Shape Foo Fighters | Fun Facts Rock Episode #3 (Updated)
10 Fun Facts About The Colour & The Shape by Foo Fighters
Did you know that frontman David Grohl originally wanted to put a therapist's couch on the cover of the band's second album? Or that the album was named because of an old bowling pin? What about the drummer who left the band due to creative differences with Grohl?" Stick around and we will answer these questions and more!
1. Drummer Drama
Original drummer William Goldsmith left the band due to creative differences with David Grohl.
The band originally record the album at in Washington state at Bear Creek Studio in November of 1996. However, in February of 1997 David Grohl decided to take the songs to Hollywood's Grandmaster Recorders to re-record most of the album with Grohl performing the drum parts.
In 2011, Grohl confessed to an interviewer backstage at Oxegen; "There were a lot of reasons it didn't work out... but there was also a part of me that was like... I don't know if I'm finished playing the drums yet... I wish that I would have handled things differently." - David Grohl, Oxegen 2011 - Foo Fighters David Grohl, RTE2fm (Jul 10, 2011)
2. Taylor Hawkins
Taylor Hawkins makes a cameo appearance.
Although Hawkins joined the band after Grohl had already recorded the drum tracks, the band were kind enough to let him appear in the music videos for the album's singles.
3. Thrift Store Inspiration
4. Ordinary Heroes
Grohl wrote "My Hero" as a tribute to ordinary everyday heroes.
"Heroes are a funny thing. When I was young I had KISS posters and I listened to Rush and thought the Beatles were magicians. But the real heroes in my life were people that I was close to. Pete Stahl who was the singer of Scream (Grohl's pre-Nirvana band) was one. I was 17 years old when we hit the road and that guy showed me the ropes, so to me he was a hero. And family members ...my mom's a saint. She raised two kids with no money and we managed to be a happy family, so she seems like a hero to me." - Grohl, How To Write A Rock Anthem, Morat, Kerrang! Slipknot's Subliminal Messages on Vol 3
The title Subliminal Verses speaks to the "Duality" of Slipknot's approach to making music and the intentional twists that the band puts on their music to keep the listener guessing. As the singer himself explained to Fuse TV:
"Basically the concept behind Subliminal Verses is that there's two levels of information. There's the blatant, and then there's the... kind of subdued... The blatant always comes off the way it is... It's in your face, right there. And you can listen to a song a million times and get the same message.
But with the subdued, which is kind of underneath... under the smoky remnants of it, that's where the subliminal part comes in because there's always two sides to every story. There's what's going on and then there's what's not going on... with everything. There's two sides to everything. The real message that comes through is that "just when you thought you understood us, there's a whole new program ready for you guys to download." - Taylor, Slipknot Reveals the True Message Behind 'The Sublimanal Verses', Fuse (Oct 2016)

How Slipknot Sid Wilson Battles Depression
Slipknot's Vol 3 (The Subliminal Verses) didn't start out with a very productive recording process, and almost didn't happen because the band was too busy drinking and was not getting any work done, as various members of the band recount their own stories:
(Drummer) JOEY JORDISON told Revolver Magazine in 2008:
"Me and Paul demoed a bunch of songs. I flew down to Los Angeles and arrived expecting to practice. I walk in and Corey says, "No, I'm going to the Rainbow [Bar & Grill, the famous L.A. rock-and-roll hangout]." And Shawn says, "No, I'm working on something else." I'm like, "What the f***?! We're not f****** jamming?" So I go get a bottle of Jack Daniel's and drink myself into oblivion. Then I wake up at 3 o'clock the next day and say, "Right, let's jam," and no one wants to. It took us three f****** months before everyone came together." - Jordinson, Slipknot Look Back on Torment and Tumult... text Jon Wiederhorn, Revolver (Sep 26, 2008)
Vocalist COREY TAYLOR would say:
"For the most part, I pushed everybody away. I would drink all day and then go to the bar at night. I was the quintessential lead singer. You were gonna cater to my ego and tell me everything was great. And that's so not who I am. Honestly. I never wanted to be like that. I would keep a bottle of Jack next to my f****** bed every day. Instead of figuring out why I was upset, I just drowned in it... I just wanted to feel something other than terrible." - Taylor, Slipknot Look Back on Torment and Tumult... text Jon Wiederhorn, Revolver (Sep 26, 2008)
And turntablist SID WILSON would explain:
"Like some of the other guys, I went through some relationship problems and started drinking and smoking reefer really heavily, nonstop all day to deal with the depression. I'd stay up for three days straight. Then I'd pass out for a day and continue the cycle until I realized a year later that there's a lot worse things than being on the pity pot. I started playing piano and that was a good release for me—getting rid of the depression through the keys." - Wilson, Slipknot Look Back on Torment and Tumult... text Jon Wiederhorn, Revolver (Sep 26, 2008)

Slipknot Duality HOUSE DESTRUCTION PARTY
Slipknot Duality HOUSE DESTROYED
The music video for "Duality" was filmed at a fan's house that was about to undergo renovation. However, fans that filled the house for the performance were so energetic that they end up causing far more damage than the band had expected. The list of damages included but was not limited to broken windows, water-damaged carpets, destroyed gutters and picnic tables, and a hole in the cieling where a chandelier used to be. The video would cost almost half a million dollars to shoot, with Roadrunner Records allegedly paying the homeowner $50,000 to help with repair bills.
Slipknot Co-Founder and Percussionist, Shawn "Clown" Crahan would explain:
"(We) asked our real fans to be in the video and people came from all over... it meant so much to us. We weren't really supposed to destroy that house – but we did it anyway. Another plus for that song is that I get to beat the f*** out of my keg. What else could you want?" - Crahan, Hell Unleased, Tom Bryant, Kerrang #1423. p. 24 (Jul 14, 2012)

Slipknot Jim Root CUSTOM GUITAR The Go Homeacaster
Slipknot guitarist Jim Root almost took his guitar and went back home during the middle of a European Tour in support of Vol 3, even going so far as to write down the cost of airfare on the back of a Telecaster which he gave a special nick-name:
"There were times I wanted to pull my credit card out and book myself a flight home. When we were in Europe, I called up the airline and priced out a one-way flight from Paris to Des Moines. All I had to do was give them my credit card number. And I just couldn't do it. I had to see it through. And then the next day I took one of my custom Fenders and started writing all over it with a Sharpie. I wrote down the airfare from France to Des Moines. And I wrote "The Go-Homeacaster" on it and "F*** this," "F*** this band," and "F*** all these a**holes." But I finally realized that all the guys in the band were there for me, I just didn't see it. So over the next couple years, I started to clean my act up slowly but surely, and it took me until Ozzfest 2004 to figure it out." - Root, Slipknot Look Back on Torment and Tumult... text Jon Wiederhorn, Revolver (Sep 26, 2008)

Rick Rubin's Haunted Mansion feat Slipknot Corey Taylor
Slipknot's Vol 3, (The Subliminal Verses), would be recorded in 2003 at The Mansion, a four bedroom estate owned by producer Rick Rubin, located in the Laurel Canyon region of Los Angeles, California. The Mansion is famous for the multiple bands who have recorded hit albums within its walls. A list that includes Red Hot Chili Peppers, Audioslave, Marilyn Manson, The Mars Volta, System of a Down, and Linkin Park. The estate was also a former home of Golden Age actor Errol Flynn. And did you know that The Mansion is also allegedly haunted? According to various people who claim they had paranormal experiences while working or staying at The Mansion. Including Rick Rubin's publicist who claims she saw a woman in a white dress walk past her on the staircase. Corey Taylor Apologizes to Producer Rick Rubin
Although Slipknot singer Corey Taylor had strong words in criticism of producer Rick Rubin over his experience while working with him during the production of Subliminal Verses, he would later express his regrets for placing unfair blame on Rick and defelected more of the criticism at himself and his own expectations:
“I’m going to be honest. I think it was more on my end than it was on his... He works his way and he always has. I was not used to working that way. I was a young guy, freshly sober... Being a singer and being sober, ‘I need your attention, Rick! I need it!’ So that was me being young, unsure of myself, needing the guidance – which I got from Greg Fidelman...
I didn’t have anybody there to help me. So I blamed him a lot – in retrospect, probably more than I should have... I feel bad about it. Hopefully some day I’ll be able to make some amends with him.” - Taylor, I Want To Say Sorry To Rick Rubin, Martin Kielty, Metal Hammer (Sept 21, 2022)

Corey Taylor PRAISES Unsung Slipknot Hero Greg Fidelman
Corey Taylor credits producer Greg Fidelman as the "unsung hero" of Slipknot's The Subliminal Verses despite the fact that he was only credited as an Engineer. While Corey was frustrated with Rick Rubin over his lack of availability to mentor the young singer, he was quick to heap praise upon Greg Fidelman for being the mentor that he sorely needed at the time.
"To me, [Greg] was the other producer... He was there from sometimes six in the morning till four in the morning — I mean, every day, when we needed him... We have a great rapport with him. He gets us, he challenges us, but he also knows when to get out of the way and just let us be us. So we have a great relationship with him...
"The best thing you can have is somebody who's not afraid to tell you that that idea is s***... And I feel like too many bands do that — they don't have anybody pushing them; they have nobody challenging them. Because they get to a point where they think, 'Well, I don't need anybody to f****** tell me… I'm talented enough... I obviously know what I'm doing.' But that's not the case. You forget that the albums that people loved you on, there were other people helping you do that. It's a collaborative effort...
You have to have that open mind... to understand that listening to an idea takes 10 seconds. If you just dismiss it out of hand, then you may be missing that one moment, that hero moment, that can f****** make everything come together...
And Greg knows exactly how to throw those little bombs out there to push us. He infuriates us sometimes, but at the same time, I'd say nine times out of 10, he's right... he knows what we're trying to go for, he knows what we aspire to be, and he helps us get there." - Taylor, Slipknot's Corey Taylor Praises Producer Greg Fidelman..., from Let There Be Talk #455, text by Blabbermouth.net (Jan 9, 2019)
