Went fishing at the local pond to try our the Tiny B lure that came with my last Mystery Tackle Box. The lure seems to work great for panfish, and runs fairly shallow so it's not likely to snag too often. The only problem is, I can't seem to remember what the name of this lure is while I'm out on the pond! I tried out the Googan Squad Zinger spinnerbait for the first time, and discovered that I like it a lot more than the cheap, bargain bin spinnerbaits I normally use, with an unfortunate outcome... Today I put two rods/baits against each other- a medium light rod with a small 2 inch paddletail swimbait up against a medium rod with a bigger 3.3 inch paddletail swimbait. I alternated both rods at a few different locations until I started finding action= even if it took all day, to try comparing the two different sized baits. So the panfish at the local pond just can't get enough of these little paddletail swimbaits. I actually caught three before I even remembered to turn on the video camera. Took a short trip to the canal and threw around a small kastmaster spoon. Also checked out an old fishing spot turned construction site, and checked to see if there was any life there before calling it a morning. Today I tried putting my lightest setup up against my heaviest- with a small finesse paddletail on a light jig on the light rod against a big propbait on a baitcaster with braided line on my heaviest rod. The pond gets a lot of pressure giving an edge to the finesse jig, but the temperature, lightin, anf time of day favor topwater, so I'd call it even- or so I thought. I've always said when you fish topwater, even the misses are fun- and today I put that to the test with a googan mini revolver propbait. I can't fault the lure- I've caught plenty of fish with it before- see how many times I can miss with one lure in about 30 minutes of fishing, and feel free to comment if you spot anything you think I'm doing wrong (because after this session, I'll take all the help I can get!) I realized that my two light rods are both gold colored, so it somehow made sense to put them head to head- at the local pond. I ran a rooster tail on my older rod, and a paddletail swimbait on a jig head on the travel rod from Temu, and they both performed today. It was overcast and gloomy, so naturally, that meant it was a good time to throw a whopper plopper! I got good results when I tried popping the bait a few times before retrieving. I tried my $30 fishing kit from Temu at a local creek, using the smallest lure in the kit, and managed to catch five different species in under a half hour- including a redfin pickerel- a species of pickerel I've never seen in my area before!
